He did shi*** at the LA Galaxy, David is just a hunk running about on the field because as a player he kind of sux. Besides, it’s not as if he begs for the attention–these things are set up and the whole reason for his (and the Galaxy) going is to promote soccer in Australia and NZ, where, like America, it’s not one of the most popular sports.
He has labelled himself an ambassador of the sport, and give him tons of credit, he has gone out of his way to do everything he’s been asked: interviews, promotions, attending games and events.
I don’t think it’s fair to judge his time at the Galaxy on half a season when he was injured for most of it. Not his fault to be off with injuries; that’s the reality of professional sports.
Moreover, he’s proved himself over and over as a player in his entire career. Is he the best in the world? No. But he’s great at what he’s great at–set pieces and crosses. He can still work magic, and, more than that, he inspires his teammates.
Beyond that, considering the public behaviour of most sports personalities, I would be glad to have my kids admire Beckham who, however rich and famous, has a lot of class–not the guy who will have tantrums and diva-demands or put down peeople in public, even those who disparage him.
Truly, what’s not to like about the guy?
