Reese, Angelina Lead List of Highest-Paid Actresses

Reese Witherspoon ranked number one on The Hollywood Reporter’s annual list of the highest-paid actresses. The 31-year-old actress commands $15 million to $20 million a movie.

Angelina Jolie came in second, and Cameron Diaz came in third with a $15 million-per-movie requirement.

While Angelina and Reese are now asking for $15 million-$20 million per movie, they frequently agree to “no-quote deals” — deals in which the studios actually pay them far less than their usual fee (usually when they take on supporting roles).

Here’s The Hollywood Reporter’s top ten list:

1. Reese Witherspoon — $15 million-$20 million
2. Angelina Jolie — $15 million-$20 million
3. Cameron Diaz — $15+ million
4. Nicole Kidman — $10 million-$15 million
5. Renee Zellweger — $10 million-$15 million
6. Sandra Bullock — $10 million-$15 million
7. Julia Roberts — $10 million-$15 million
8. Drew Barrymore — $10 million-$12 million
9. Jodie Foster — $10 million-$12 million
10. Halle Berry — $10 million

They ask $20 million / movie … but how long is this going to last? I mean, honestly now, Angelina was a Box Office Hit years ago in the Tomb Raider era, but in the latest years Angelina did not had not even 1 movie that made everybody talk about it or go see it. I am Angelina’s fan, I root for her, but I think that she took some bad decisions concerning the movies she made. She has talent but also she’s seen by the public as a SEX BOMB, so Angelina should had done some more movies like Tom Rider… something that we all loved. Even though her latest film, “Rendition,” was a flop, Reese Witherspoon is a moneymaker. The 31-year-old Academy Award winner commands $15 million to $20 million a movie, placing her at the top of The Hollywood Reporter’s annual list of the highest-paid actresses.

Angelina Jolie came in second with similar salary demands, though the animated “Beowulf” earned the 32-year-old actress far less just $8 million.

IMO - this list is dumb because it all depends on the deal the actor makes with the production company. You get paid a lot less for independent movies. So if any of those actresses on the list do one or two independent movies next year does that meant the drop off the list?

Angelina has international marketing value as do many on this list. That’s why they command the amount they do. It has nothing to do with box office although Angelina’s last big hit MMS made her in one of the highest grossing films ever. She will be enjoying the benfits of that for years to come.

I think Meryl Streep should be on that list, she’s been around longer and has more experience than any of these actress. I loved her in The Devil Wears Prada.

I am glad that the women are now in the $15-20 million range, but I would bet that they are still lagging far behind the men in the salary department. Especially now that Rendition and Things We Lost in the Fire tanked, it will be harder and harder for women to get the men’s kind of salary, especially with Will Smith and Tom Hanks being so bankable both here and abroad (and now add Matt Damon to that list).

What happened to Jennifer Aniston’s name? Wasn’t she the one Forbes said topped the list on as the one worth all the money spent on the movie? Doesn’t she make at least $10 million per film, or was that only when she had Brad Pitt by her side?
