OlderReese, Angelina Lead List of Highest-Paid Actresses
Reese Witherspoon ranked number one on The Hollywood Reporter’s annual list of the highest-paid actresses. The 31-year-old actress commands $15 million to $20 million a movie.
Angelina Jolie came in second, and Cameron Diaz came in third with a $15 million-per-movie requirement.
While Angelina and Reese are now asking for $15 million-$20 million per movie, they frequently agree to “no-quote deals” — deals in which the studios actually pay them far less than their usual fee (usually when they take on supporting roles).
Here’s The Hollywood Reporter’s top ten list:
1. Reese Witherspoon — $15 million-$20 million
2. Angelina Jolie — $15 million-$20 million
3. Cameron Diaz — $15+ million
4. Nicole Kidman — $10 million-$15 million
5. Renee Zellweger — $10 million-$15 million

Even though her latest film, “Rendition,” was a flop, Reese Witherspoon is a moneymaker. The 31-year-old Academy Award winner commands $15 million to $20 million a movie, placing her at the top of The Hollywood Reporter’s annual list of the highest-paid actresses.
Angelina Jolie came in second with similar salary demands, though the animated “Beowulf” earned the 32-year-old actress far less just $8 million.

IMO - this list is dumb because it all depends on the deal the actor makes with the production company. You get paid a lot less for independent movies. So if any of those actresses on the list do one or two independent movies next year does that meant the drop off the list?
Angelina has international marketing value as do many on this list. That’s why they command the amount they do. It has nothing to do with box office although Angelina’s last big hit MMS made her in one of the highest grossing films ever. She will be enjoying the benfits of that for years to come.

I think Meryl Streep should be on that list, she’s been around longer and has more experience than any of these actress. I loved her in The Devil Wears Prada.
I am glad that the women are now in the $15-20 million range, but I would bet that they are still lagging far behind the men in the salary department. Especially now that Rendition and Things We Lost in the Fire tanked, it will be harder and harder for women to get the men’s kind of salary, especially with Will Smith and Tom Hanks being so bankable both here and abroad (and now add Matt Damon to that list).
None of these actresses deserve this kind of money. No actor/actress for that matter. Have the top 5 produced a blockbuster this year? None of them have.

ITA about it not being about box office. It’s about perceived talent and name recognition. It’s aldo about if you get credit as a producer which many of these women do get. In addition, the definition of a hit film may be different for actresses than actors.
Having won an Academy Award also helps it seems. The only non Oscar winners on there are Cameron Diaz, Sandra Bullock and Drew Barrymore.
Congratulations to these women and plan carefully because you will not always be able to maintain those salaries

However, because of Shrek and Charlie’s Angels she got her name and face plastered all over the globe (her stint with JT didn’t exactly diminish the luster on her star either). Plus, she can do musicals and comedies, dramas as well as action. More important though, she’s got appeal with the kids. They think she’s cute and funny.
As for performance, have you seen her in Gangs of New York? She can’t do period films and her acting is limited. I forget the poster that brought this up but I agree with her when she said that if it was Angie in that role, it would have been a killer.

Cracks me up, now the argument is these actresses made the list because they have the most powerful publicist. Yeah, than a certain someone should have been there and she’s not. Angelina doesn’t have a publicist. So, that theory has been shot down twice.
And it has nothing to do with talent? Alrighty then, but, it’s these actresses that are the studios go to actresses.
A certain person is making low budget films these days and isn’t getting big paychecks for them. She’s working with first time directors and B/C List co-stars. Not even up and comers. Even her publicist can’t fudge those facts.

(c) i’m happy to see that angelina is being recognized at the satellite awards… but i was hoping that they would’ve acknowledge AMH more in other categories. A Mighty Heart is one, if not the one, film that has really struck an amazing cord in me this year. And I saw A LOT of films this year. :lol: Haven’t seen TAOJJ yet, but that’s why I think Warner Bros. SUCK!
I hope that other award giving bodies acknowledges AMH more and its director, Michael Winterbottom. I saw Syriana a few years back, and it’s a little similar in style, but unlike Syriana, even though I knew what eventually happens in the film, it was still able to capture my heart and full attention. While watching Syriana at the theater I have to confess that my head drooped and I almost fell asleep! ( I did enjoy it better watching it the second time on dvd though, props to the plot line but not the direction and scene longevity) IMO, George Clooney did not deserve to win an Oscar for his performance. He was just Dr. Doug Ross with a little more weight. No offense to Dr. Ross; he was one of my favorite TV doctors of all time. I hope he and Carol Hathaway are living a blissful life in TV heaven :lol:

Aniston didn’t get most of her money from Plan B. She got most of it from Friends. People seem to forget that the last 4 years of Friends, that cast made some serious bank, plus the residuals earn them 5-8M/year.
The last 4 years of Friends earned them each 78 million dollars, add in the residuals plus what she earned for her film work.
I’m not an Aniston fan by any stretch, but, she didn’t earn the bulk from Plan B. She took her movies from there and her % fee of the movies that were made while Plan B was at WB. She received a small payout for her ownership, which was the minority. When Brad Grey left, his ownership went to Brad, with a % to Dede Gardner that was more than Aniston’s ownership.
It was done on purpose to force Aniston out. Brad, Brad Grey, Dede Gardner and the rest of the executives wanted Aniston out of the company when Brad and Aniston split. Brad Grey leaving to go to Paramount gave them the ammuniction to do it.

Reese is a better actress than Angelina by far. However I think Jodie Foster should be #1. She is the only one on that list that really sells movies just with her name. Sandra is another actress who is also successful at the box office, so she should be paid better than Reese, even if Reese is a better actress. Both Reese and Angelina’s movie flopped big time this year. They don’t deserve to get paid that much. And Beowulf is not Angelina’s movie, she got paid that much (8M) because it was a high budget movie and because of the special effects, they knew it will sell. But if she would not have been in that movie, it still would have been a successful.
Cate is too good for Brad but then again so is Angelina.

The Friends cast made 750K for seasons 7-8. They shot 24 episodes/year. That is 36M for those 2 years. They made 1M/episode for years 9-10. The 10th season was abbreviated to 18 episodes. That’s 42M. Those last 4 seasons equal 78M. Their residuals ranged between 5-8M dollars from the 6th season through today/year.
Aniston earned 5M for Bruce Almighty/ACP, Derailed and 8M for TBU. That’s another 23 M.
So, for people to think she earned her chunk through Plan B is absurd. Her biggest payout through Plan B was the movies that they’d optioned for her and then the library Plan B took with them to Paramount and if Paramount bought the options from WB, than Aniston was out of luck because they became the property of Paramount and Plan B. I hope it works though, that team-up, because I really like both as actors and have enjoyed most of their films. I personally will always admire Cate for portraying Elizabeth the first time around. Why oh why did they have to make a sequel? And about the Spanish armada era of all parts, when it is clear that the Elizabeth was too old to be portrayed by Cate at that era.
OT, I saw a comment a while ago about Marion Cotillard acting as Edith Piaf as trans formative, but I think this is more reason why I think Angelina deserves the accolades all the more. She, Angelina, at least IMO, really became Marianne Pearl in AMH. The mannerisms, and all the other isms that go with a person, she adapted it well, and after you get over the fact that she’s freaking Angelina Jolie at the very beginning of the film, you forget the fact that she’s actually wearing a wig and little to no make-up.
Whereas Marion Cotillard didn’t have that whole persona to get over because we have NO IDEA who the heck she is. Therefore it is easier to see her as Edith Piaf.

5)It’s so simple math. It doesnt take a person with high IQ to figure out. Both Lisa Kudrow and Courtney Cox were in friends, got the SAME pay , 1M per episode in the last season. Why werent they on the list?
Scroll up and look at the list. Aniston is #10 with a networth of 110M. The last one on the list is #20 Renee Zellweger with 45M.
Think for a second, this means Courtney and Lisa Kudrow dont even have 45M otherwise they will be on the list.
45M and 110M is a big difference. Jen got twice or may be 3 or 4 times more than Lisa and Courtney. You go figure !!!
Another piece of info, both Courtney and Lisa do movies similar to Jen. What Courtney and Lisa lack is PLAN B.
5) Let’s look at Plan B from which Aniston was a partner.
Plan B is successful. But Aniston is a partner IN NAME only.

I didn’t lie. I said that for season 7 and 8 the cast each made 750 K per episode. I said that they shot 24 episodes/year. Someone else is saying 22. At 22 /year they made 16.5 M/year at 24 it’s 24 M/year. So, between 16.5-18 M/year for 2 years. That’s 33M-36M for 2 years. For seasons 9-10 they made 1M per episode/year. Again if you go by 22-24 episodes/year, that’s 22M-24M for season 9. They shot 18 episodes in year 10. That’s 18M. For the last four years, without their residuals, which they were paid while still filming the series. Which were between 5-8M/year and still going.
So, you’ve got for 750K/year for 22-24 episodes equaling 33-36 million for season 7-8. You’ve got 22-24 million for season 9 and 18 million for season 10. Grand total without residuals of 73 million vs 78M for 24 episodes. Add in their residuals of 5 Million that went up to 8 million for their last deal, which they’re still being paid and you tell me, just how much she made off of Plan B? Add in her film work of 15 million for 3 films and 8 million for one.
Not adding in the residuals Aniston made 23M off of her film work from 2003-2005 and made 73M-78M for Friends, without the residual payments.
That’s 96M-101M off of her work. Adding in the residuals for the 3 years that Friends has been off the air and you have your figure of 110M.

Most women simply can never imagine being Angelina. Those who are emotionally secure or seeking inspiration would find Angelina someone to aspire to and admire. Oh please, Aniston doesnt have US$110 in the bank, the taxes will eat up 30-40% of their gross earnings, and their expenses are enormous. she has her entourage with her 24/7, she has a publicist, agent, bus manager, hairdresser, stylist, her personal assistant, yoga instructer, bodyguards, dog nanny, her cook, her maid, etc. She spends money on clothes, vacations, dining, and of course, she just bought a new house and is renovating it and also renovating her old HW hills house. Very well said, I question the same thing afew posts earlier. It all amounts to the same reporting BS when it comes to AJ. Some peoples rational is that she make 8M for Beowul and thus lowering her asking average, I dont think they numbers are based on average though but the actual asking price.

These are throw away articles designed to attract celebrity watchers. They’re not really business articles.
How is Kidman only worth $65 million. After her divorce from Cruise she had well over $100 million. She had over $100 million of her own during the marriage and Tom, who was worth way way more, had to pony up money on the settlement. Kidman is way up there in worth.
These lists are nothing more than taking popular names and trying to figure out from various published sources how much has been reported that these people make.
Of course, Cox, Kudrow and the 3 men are equally wealthy. Maybe the 6 luckiest people in the history of television. But who cares how much Kudrow or Cox or the others are worth? They won’t attract readership so they are ignored.
It also isn’t commonly known when stars get points or what kind of points they get. So long after talk about a movie and its salaries is over, some stars are only then getting their big payouts. Whatever do you mean not strong of an actress? The same arguments can be made for Reese, Halle, Renee and Nicole. Their performances the last year or so have been hit or miss. Why target Angie only in your comments if it was not to hate? Also not for anything, but what are your thougths on Cameron Diaz being on the list?

Astute observation, Aeon. I’m a bit puzzled why more people aren’t helping out. This was a great city. My cousin is a long time resident of Bywater and was prepared to have to relocate permanently to her out of state vacation home. They were happily surprised that their NOLA house was fine. No flooding and no vandalism.
Brad should do a movie with charlize therthon . with n@de love scene and chemistry will be hotter than in Mr and Mrs Smith.
