Brad & Angelina Continue New Orleans Housing Efforts

Brad & Angelina Continue New Orleans Housing Efforts

Brad Pitt shares a laugh on Saturday with Janice Porter, whose family had a home in the Lower 9th Ward, in the flood-ravaged neighborhood of New Orleans, Louisiana. Angelina Jolie and daughter Zahara were also nearby to lend their support.

Brad is expected to announce more details of his affordable housing “Make it Right” project @ 11AM EST Monday. More than 100 affordable, ecologically sound homes will be built in the coming months. On Nov. 9, at the Clinton Global Initiative in Manhattan, Brad pledged $5 million to the project, challenging others to match his largess.

Cute snippet from the New Orleans Times-Picayune about Brad, Angelina and the kids: “Jolie caught up with Pitt a half-block closer to the river as he was bicycling around the surrealistic site in a gray sweatshirt and cap. He posed for a photograph with an admirer and watched the children splash their feet in a puddle. Then he peddled off.”

Thanks Jared and a Happy Sunday to all BAMPZS Fans out there.

Thanks for the update Just Jared. It is good to see BP and “Make it Right” continue the building of houses for the Lower Ninth Ward. I am looking forward to BP announcing more details on the Project. Thanks for all the pictures and videos. Peace to all.

You know, I applaud their efforts, but what makes me so mad, is the way they drag their kids everywhere. Those poor kids have no roots, no sense of security and calm being in a home that’s consistent and stable. Children need that more than being drug all over world. Just an opinion from a mom of 3…….

Big kudos to the Jolie-Pitts for everything they are doing for NOLA. Keep on doing good work no matter what some try to say or do to cast a negative light upon you.

Updated story with pixs.

+++++++++++++++++

Something just occured to me about this story - the pink houses as stand-ins for the homes to be built…Anybody else hear Mellencamp’s “Pink Houses” in their head when they read this story? It’s actually a very fitting song for what Brad is trying to do in NO. It should be what America is about…instead of us being the world’s b#tch…

There’s a black man with a black cat
Living in a black neighbourhood
Hes got an interstate runnin through his front yard
You know, he think, that hes got it so good
And theres a woman in the kitchen cleanin up the evening slop
And he looks at her and says: hey darling, I can remember when you could stop a clock

Chorus:
Oh but aint that america for you and me
Aint that america were someting to see baby
Aint that america, home of the free
Little pink houses for you and me

Well theres a young man in a t-shirt
Listening to a rockin rollin station
Hes got a greasy hair, greasy smile
He says: lord, this must be my destination
cuz they told me, when I was younger
Boy, youre gonna be president
But just like everyting else, those old crazy dreams
Just kinda came and went

Chorus:
Oh but aint that america for you and me
Aint that america were someting to see baby
Aint that america, home of the free
Little pink houses for you and me

Well theres people and more people
What do they know know know
Go to work in some high rise
And vacation down at the gulf of mexico
Ohhh yeah
And theres winners, and theres losers
But they aint no big deal
cuz the simple man baby pays for the thrills,
The bills and the pills that kill

Chorus:
Oh but aint that america for you and me
Aint that america were someting to see baby
Aint that america, home of the free
Little pink houses for you and me

Oh but aint that america for you and me
Aint that america were someting to see baby
Aint that america, home of the free
Little pink houses for you and me

Are they with their parents?
When they go to sleep is daddy the last face they see?
When they wake up is mommy’s face the first they see?
When they go downstairs for breakfast, are mommy and daddy waiting for them? If that isn’t stability….I honestly don’t know what is.

Oy! I guess we have to go through the whole stability knowing that mommy and daddy are always around and not seeing the same four walls for the rest of your life….lecture again. Any takers…I’m sorry, I’m just too lazy to get into that today.

PEOPLE FROM NOLA NOT HAPPY @ 12/02/2007 at 4:24 pm

9th Ward, 9th Ward, 9th Ward. I am so sick of hearing about the 9th Ward. It’s been over 2 years and all we hear about is the 9th Ward. They need to rename it the 39th Ward and move it 30 blocks towards the Lake. In addition Brad and Angelina need to go back to Cali as he has NO idea of the element that he is messing with. Take, Take and Take with no mention of Work, Work, Work. Lets’ help the people who take pride in their city such as St. Bernard, Chalmette and the Lakefront. If you look in those areas today your see development with kids enjoying their front porches and not sitting on them with their hands out! No wonder why the feds won’t send any money down here. It might end up in someone’s freezer. Oh and what a way to ask for it right after the storm from our wonderful Mayor, “Get yo asses down here”. Or from our Sanitation Director, “We have to scrub up the data” What the hell is that?

If you are a mom, you will know that roots, security and calm doesn’t comes from the place you’re living, but from your family.

It occurred to me that Brad has never missed any of Angie’s premieres so far; TGS, AMH, and Beowulf, be it in the US or outside the US.

Whereas with Jennifer, he missed quite a lot!

In 2004, he dint go with JA for Along came Polly premiere in London and Paris, and promo in Rome.

In 2003, Brad didnt attend the premier of Bruce Almighty in Los Angeles

In June 2002, Brad also did not attend The Good Girl Premiere in LA. He only attended the Industry screening in Aug 2002 and the one in Sundance.

But jennifer attended all Brad’s film premieres up to Troy in 2004, except the latter part of 2004 for O12.

I’m glad that one Mr. Pitt is helping. But What about the people of Chalmette. We lost more then lower ninth ward. Ever home was flooded. Which there was a population of 67,000. How many lived in 9th ward?????????? We are suffering in Chamette to. I guess we just don’t exist. Just like after Katrina. But we do and someone needs to stand up for us. WE ARE HUMAN ALSO.

Rally cry:
Let’s make BP $5M poorer.

How?
By donating to his NOLA project. The more you give, the more he has to match your donation with his own money.

What are the rewards?
-BP is poorer by $5M (yeah!)
-You did a good deed, and God will reward you.
-A resident of the 9th Ward gets help in the process.

It’s a win-win situation. ;)

They both look like warm ****, Brad really needs to clean up his act, you can be humble and not all about red carpet glamour and still look half way decent, not like you both just climed out of a dumpster. An open shirt on Brad should say sexy, not red, leathery old man complete with dirty old man cap.

Brad and Angelina are doing great things and I applaud them both. Look at that picture with Brad and Janice. She’s obviously very happy and appreciates the efforts that are being put forth. It’s nice to see.

Never ceases to amaze me how people think they know ‘what’s best’ for other people’s children. Have an opinion yes, but it shouldn’t make you ‘mad’. These are not your children and there isn’t a ‘one size fits all’ model when it comes to child-rearing.

Happy Brad has Angie, his greatest love, always by his side, who is so proud of him and supports him in everything he does, no matter what that maybe

Happy Brad has a warm loving HOME filled with love and people who love him, because home is where the heart is, not a big empty sterile house

Happy Brad has filled up the nursery he was meant to have, sad Brad no longer has to go into an empty nursery that he worked on for two years

Happy Brad is now all the man he was always supposed to be, the blue bird of happiness residing in his life

AG, this is one of the reasons that I love this couple so much.

How can Angie look so great…raising 4 kids, shooting a film, supporting her man…all without make up and looking so amazingly gorgeous?

natural beauty, indeed.

ANGIE IS BEAUTIFUL WITHOUT MAKE-UP!

ANGIE IS BEAUTIFUL WITHOUT MAKE-UP!

I wish I could look that Gorgeous with a camera THAT close to my face, no makeup and be that BEAUTIFUL!!!

A good deed is a good deed. Not everyone is going to be happy because their community is not included. BP is a private citizen helping out the way he knows how. If anyone has failed the people of New Orleans, it is the US government. The Lower 9th ward is the poorest in New Orleans. Many of the people survived with nothing when the Levees broke. Let the people have a home and a future to look forward to. However, we can always depend on our resident troll to cherry pick negative emails and not the positive ones. Troll(s) are good for one thing only and that is spreading negativity. Live in your cesspool of hate trolls. I prefer the wide open space of human kindness. Peace to all.
Peace to all.

DD, it’s because we know Angie is on a journey and we as fans appreciate someone who lives out loud in the best way he or she can. We appreciate the effort and we choose to believe not everyone is motivated by cynicism.

Your comment is ridiculous. The kids are fine. Plus it is none of YOUR business. A lot of actors and singers travel a lot with their kids. Look at Cate B., G. Stefan, K.Homlems. I think AJ’s kids are probably more stable then kids that stay in one place all the time for Angie and Brad make extra special time for them. The couple I think are free committment wise until Brad’s next movie “Fighter” I believe and Angie is taking time off. She can relax and be herself. No dressing up, time to relax and dress down!!!!

Actually, I am familiar with the term and I get that the shot was ‘fatal’. The point is that Paris couldn’t take Helen’s husband, so Hector had to handle it. Hector had to face down Achilles after killing his cousin. And Achilles had to face the King of Troy after killing and desecrating Hector’s body by dragging him. Paris didn’t have to face anything or anyone, and while he did kill his brother’s killer, he didn’t do it face to face and add to it that Briseis was distracting Achilles, which was probably the only reason why Paris had the clear shot.

Paris was a wuss, period. All he did was whine to Helen.
*****************************************************

Piper, I feel your pain. I have always disliked Paris. Even when I read the story in high school. He was so damn weak. But he is a catalyst that brings about change, and is unchanged. He suffers not. Peace

Thanks for the new thread Jared! Love to hear about their good deeds are making at a difference. Hopefully, the US government will take note & walk the walk.

i know brad and angelina can’t single-handily solve the problems facing NOLA right now, but it’s really refreshing to see people trying to be pro-active rather than be reactive all the time.
these two really deserve all the props that they get.
and even though there are still doubters out there, the good thing is that they just try to do their best and keep on chugging along, doing what they do with the best intentions, in the best way they know how.
it’s doing good stuff like these that does the heart good… good for them.

Too funny. Concise and true. However, it will just go over the shallow troll’s head.

the whole truth @ 12/02/2007 at 5:04 pm

For those who insist on posting some of the negative comments from the NOLA article, just keep heaping misery on people who are already miserable enough. The Lower 9th Ward was just one neighborhood of many damaged and devastated by Katrina. Many many people have lost everything and are in great need. They want some help like Brad is now carrying out in their neighborhoods also. They are frustrated and expressing that frustration, which is perfectly understandable. Brad is one person among others who has done more than talk, he doing something good, and he decided to start his efforts in one neighborhood. This is just the beginning of what Brad envisions for Make It Right. Remember that from tiny accorns mighty oaks grow. Make It Right will bring both critically needed new housing and new jobs to an area in need of both.

A message for you that posted the frustrated comments and cries of people in need here in an effort to cast negativity on the good that Brad is doing, judge not lest you be judged. You may find yourself one day in need of someone like Brad to step forward after you have lost everything not through your own fault. You had better hope that some good people will step forward and offer you some assistance.

Brad is doing more than his fair share..instead of critizing. people need to learn to be more appreciative and give credit where its due. Angelina never looked better..being there supporting her man..

Why don’t they call their president? Isn’t he the one who is suppose to be helping with the rebuilding? Maybe he can divert some money from Iraq to help rebuild NO. Brad didn’t say he was going to rebuild all of NO. But he didn’t say he wasn’t. Let’s wait and see what his plans are before you start complaining. Brad is not the richest man in HW. And those that are haven’t stepped up to the plate to offer to help, that we know of. Peace

OOPs on my comment I ment Brad can not rebuild all of NO. The complainers should call Oprah and X they have a lot of money. How about Donald Trump!!!

That’s ONE PERSON who’s sick of hearing about the 9th Ward. Sounds like jealousy to me. If Brad Pitt was in his/her neighborhood with this project it would be the best thing since DippityDo. Put he’s not and now THIS ONE PERSON is mad about it. That’s the way the ball bounces. So what else is new?

# 24 PEOPLE FROM NOLA NOT HAPPY - PART 2 @ 12/02/2007 at 4:26 pm

Oooohhhhh…now you’re up to TWO UNHAPPY PEOPLE! Whew. That’s quite the crowd. I hope Brad is wearing body armor at the presscon tomorrow. We wouldn’t want those two people to trample him and his 40 bodyguards.

# 24 PEOPLE FROM NOLA NOT HAPPY - PART 2 @ 12/02/2007 at 4:26 pm I’m glad that one Mr.
———————————————–

Yes, well it’s understandable why people are frustrated with the slow rebuilding process in Louisiana. But these people need to understand that this is one person, a private citizen, who is not required to do what he is doing, but he’s doing it because he wants to help.

The federal government, which SHOULD BE helping doesn’t seem to care one bit about what happens to people in this country anymore.

Each person can only do so much.
Brad and Angelina have also helped many schools in New Orleans with supplies and other things they might need.

They are doing what they can and more help is required. What is astonishing is that people are more worried about what’s happening to Britney and have become apathetic to the katrina aftermath. There seems to be fatigue in this country. It’s feels like no matter how much you scream or how much noise you make, the government does not seem to care about the citizens anymore.

Until this country and its citizens can get their act together and become united in their effort to demand that their governement take responsibility and do their job, there will a lot of unhappy people.

It is so good to see some of the “old timers”, original fans posting again. The next couple of days are going to be nut case to the 9th power. The Today Show tomorrow. ET. Then LK. I am so happy LK is having people e-mail their questions. That way there won’t be anyone calling in and saying something hateful or stupid. Remember he had B.Clinton on, and someone called in and said something stupid. LK disconnected the phone call. Clinton asked what had the caller said? But LK wouldn’t tell him. He just said he wouldn’t repeat it. This type of thing will be avoided by using e-mails. I am certain this will disappoing the trolls/haters. Peace

these complainers should go and ask their political rich leaders to share some of those monies they pocketed….ask bush and cheney to spend the money to fix their own country and not spend on the iraq war for their oil and arms enrichment…

or ask OKRA….she sure can share her money….she gave away stuff to all her audiences….why not help the people in NOLA to build their houses….she is richer that both brad and angie….so where is she???

This coming week is Brad week. Luv luv luv it!!!

i actually think brad and angelina are giving their children stability by taking them with them everywhere they go. they know their parents want to spend time with them and they are living their lives together. stability isn’t about where you are but who you are with. they seem to be very happy and they don’t need false sympathy. love to see them making a difference. they are awesome.

LK will be in NOLA I think. CNN ads say LK will tour NOLA with Brad. I don’t know why either of them would be in NYC, LK’s show usually originates from LA, unless he has a special guest and then he flies to NYC for the show.

So I think, not that I know for certain, that the show will originate from NOLA.

The only one he doesn’t control is the combover fool with the orange, red, yellow, hair. But after his last visit when Jenny Most? made funny of him he won’t blast Angie again.

People I don’t want to bring up the “R” word. Buth the 9th ward was about 99.9% black. And here is Brad starting to rebuild there. It was, is the poorest section of NO. Most people affected by Katrina lost just about everything. But everything means different things to different people. I was watching the news when they had the Malibu fires. One man was saying how he had lost almost everything. He mainly mentioned that he had lost a platinum ring. I am not making lite of his loss. But I bet he had it insured. And if you can afford platinum he probably had a little something in the bank. The 9th ward residents didn’t have platinum rings. They lost everything, even the lives of loved ones. So be happy someone is caring enoung to try and help these people. Who knows your turn might coming up next. Peace.

Weird angle but if she doesn’t have makeup on I think she looks great. When she does wear makeup she usually only has on foundation, eyeliner, and lip gloss anyway so I can’t tell if she’s wearing any here. too blurry. She does look a little tired tho

Lillianne @ 12/02/2007 at 6:03 pm

I live in Louisiana and did a lot of Katrina and Rita tracking for the feds. If you have two or three days I can recall story after story of hard working decent people who raised generations in the Lower 9th. Yes, there were no gooders but by far those people worked hard in menial jobs to get food on the table and their kids in school. Brad Pitt is a saint and God will bless him for his generosity of spirit and wealth.

The only thing I ask of him and Angelina in return is PLEEZE CAN WE HAVVA COUPLE PIX OF THE KIDS FOR CHRISTMAS? HANNUKAH? JUST CUZ?

People from Chalmette need to STFU…the only reason why their hating BP/AJ giving the 9th Ward help is b/c they can’t STAND black people and anyone giving help to black people the Chalmatians, as we call them, can’t bear it…they hate it!

Keep doing what you will Pitt…help those who can’t help themselves RIGHT NOW!

If the people in Chalmette open up their closed minds, they would see this is a great deal…good for the city and the economy…in the long run. This actually can bring people back to work. B.c. those from Chalmette ain’t gonna try and work where they think is beneath them. People in Chalmette are poor just like the 9th Ward…but the difference the people in Chalmette don’t know their poor…yet they want to talk about the 9th Ward.

Hey, it’s just segregated (KKK) land and some KNOW not to cross or mingle in the other. And that’s why their mad…b/c someone like them (white) is helping someone like us.

Nice pictures. They look so real.

I’m watching the second Lara Croft film. I must say that Angelina is stunning to look at in this film. Wow.

Here’s a little info from wikipedia regarding Lara Croft Tom Raider:

Box office
Tomb Raider delivered the largest non-holiday weekend of the year, opening at number one with a towering $47.7M, giving the studio its second-biggest debut ever. It was shown in 3,308 theaters with a gross of $14,430 each. The film also has the largest opening ever for a movie headlined by a woman, surpassing the $40.1M debut of Charlie’s Angels

I think this still stands because I’m not sure if Amy Adams got the top billing for Enchanted (Is it her movie or Patrick Dempsy guy). Even if she got the top billing, the film opened on a holiday 4 day weekend (Thanksgiving). So it doesn’t count. Angelina has had 5 major box office success.

Re: go sox @ 12/02/2007 at 6:51 pm #134

I think you are misinterpreting posters as “being brutal”…most of the posters here are very finicky regarding posters who state an “opinion” as if it were “fact”. Your opinion is based on limited observations from your experiences and environment, which does not make it absolute “fact” for every family, for every child.
Either qualify “your facts” or expect to be put on the line by some very savvy posters.

I personally know of a family of five children who range in age from 10 to 18 and they have always moved around internationally from Uganda to Cambodia to Vietnam and more for the last eighteen years. Their father works for the U.N. World Food Bank and their mother is a MD who starts and works AID clinics wherever the father ends up. U.N. BTW has a policy that their management employees are not allowed to stay in one place for more than a few years.
These children have managed to turn around what you think is a negative…they know more about the world we live in than most provincial adult Americans and they have friends all over the world. They are well rounded in sports, literature, and world politics and very polite and astute. Don’t be so narrow-minded and assume the worse.

OK guys try to tell the truth.

1.) Bewolf is #3 this weekend.

2.) It has made about 120 million worldwide with almost all the markets opened (8 left). At this time 300 (a similiar movie)in the States alone had made 161 million. This movie neeeds to make 300 million worlwide to break even. This movie is not doing well. It should have made well over 200 million by now. It stands to lose a lot of money.

3.) AMH needs to make 32 million to break even: still 12 million behind.

4.) AOJJ needs to make 60 million has made 10 milion. Not many places left to open either.

5.) Angie does not look beautiful in this picture. In fact she looks awful. she used to be so beautiful but recently not so much.

Jill: yes he does lose something by changing schools its called friends and a stable environment.

Let’s just say I’m a little shocked at your venom here. The Jolie-Pitts are warm, caring people, sharing their generosity and time with the world. I didn’t say anything about Aniston. I didn’t have any rude comments about their looks, their past, nothing. I can’t imagine what you all would do to a REAL hater.

The oldest little Jolie-Pitt is just 6 years old. Junior High/Middle School/High School is years in the future. Angelina has said that she and Brad recognize that the kids may not want to travel as much when they are older, and may want to stay in one place. So Angelina and Brad are aware of the possible impact on their travel as the kids get older.

Right now the most important thing in these small kids lives is to be with their loving parents whereever that is. That equals security and home for a child. These kids are very familiar with both their LA and NOLA homes, probably have the same/similar furniture in both places, have staff that they know in both places. These kids are well accustomed to travelling, and they are very well behaved. Nannies are not raising these kids while the parents are somewhere else in the world for weeks and months at a time. I am so happy that this family is one of the celebrity families that actually values their family unit.

Angelina and Brad have demonstrated the necessary flexibility good parents have. There should be no doubt that they will do what they must to meet the needs of their kids.

First and last post, I also know of lovely families and children who do fine. But as you stated, it does not make it “absolute fact” for everyone. I have never been called narrow-minded in my life, nor do I assume the worst. I never said EVERY CHILD has problems; some do. I wish them the best and hope their children are as well -adjusted later as they are now. That’s it.

go sox,
to survive on these jared threads re: the JP’s you have to be clear, concise, consistent and back up with hard facts, not tabloid BTW but direct interviews, etc. The regulars and lurkers here are not your ordinary FF or dlisted JP followers…they gather at jared’s because of a common denominator in their personalities, education and approach to details and logic and of course support for this family against those who attack them for unfounded reasons and/or unsubstantiated fact. Most of us have been posting and/or lurking for years here and we all know each other. It’s not for everyone…best to lurk for awhile to see if you fit in and how you can fit in or even if you want to. Also read my post #135 to ral…be forewarned…all’s fair.

#8…..you need more children!wait a minute, you dont have the money lyk brad and anjie to roll all over the world.

No, I didn’t see that post, Drew. I’m sure it was ugly though. I don’t have a problem with you all defending the J-P’s. It’s nice they have such fans. But I’m not a hater, so you can all relax. Save it for the Von-Shtupp’s of the world.

Why don’t you do yourself a favor and get down on one knee and propose to those numbers. You seem to love them more than life itself.

Too bad those numbers can’t keep you warm at night and that’s a big part of your problem.

You can probably get those numbers made into something battery operated for yourself. That might help you out a bit.

There is also a video that goes along with these pictures. The video is of Angelina singing ‘Stand by Me’ (I think she is 11 or 12) with a couple of friends/classmates. I’ll have to do some searching, but it’s cute.

I apologize “go sox” if I appeared offensive. I did not mean to call you narrow-minded or to assume you are a negative person, however your post came across that way and that is why you are getting the reaction you are getting. Take your statements “…is the way they drag their kids everywhere. Those poor kids have no roots, no sense of security and calm being in a home that’s consistent and stable.”
it could have been stated in a less obtuse manner with less of a judgmental tone towards a family whose private nuances none of us know personally…then you topped it off with “It’s just the facts.” There are many posters and lurkers here who have professional degrees, credentials and experiences in early childhood development, psychology, mental health, social work… statements such as you wrote don’t go over well with more experienced and academically qualified posters and lurkers.

Angie looks good without makeup at least she’s not vain and narcisstic and has to look just so for the camera. Good quality on your part Angie. You are a natural beauty and you still smile for the endless photos. Keep up your humanitarian work.

So boxoffice mojo is wrong? Beowulf not second?

http://boxofficemojo.com/daily/chart/?sortdate=2007-12-01&p=.htm

But you are right? You are the almighty expert? LOL.

Three of the kids do not go to regular school yet, are too young, two may be going to preschool. Mad has friends in NOLA as well. Ever hear of homeschooling or tutoring? No of course not. All kids want to be with their parents, no matter where that is, that is love and security and stability for a family. Oh but that’s right, you and your kind wish the family to split, so their constant and devoted togetherness is driving you all into a frenzy of convulsive ranting and blinding rage at this further proof of the strength of this family’s bonds.

Brad and Angelina have created a strong loving family, this is what is eating you alive. Your idol, whose feet you worship at, failed to create with Brad in 6 years that which Angelina has managed to create with Brad in less than 3 years, a happy lovefilled tightly bonded family and home, and now everyone except for the ever shrinking group of morons like you acknowledge this reality.

Get over yourself. you are nothing but a max loser, not even worth a penny of anyone’s time. Your little bits of incorrect info make good fodder for your fellow fools. You are their high clown of uselessness.

By the way, this thread is about helping NOLA. Guess that does not register in your atropied and useless brain, as you are too busy scurrying around with your fellow rats in the sewer.

It is so funny when all else fails leave it to Sam to find a box office to quote.
________________________________________________

And the FUNNIER thing is that Brad and Angie could really care less about box office in the long run. Let’s not give Sam a hard time though. After all, she’s like her idol JA who needed to remind everyone she’s still alive and insisted on her last interview that she’s not box office poison. So you see, Sam is just acting like her idol. Both of them care way too much about box office receipts. Isn’t it funny though that Brad and Angie keep on being offered jobs and getting to work with some cool people even with all that “bad box office” while Sam’s idol who is the box office “queen” is working with ‘who’ again???

The real face of Maniston (before the plastic surgery that didn’t help with her ugliness)…

http://i17.tinypic.com/6l3hfmo.jpg

I bet Brad is having a good time. This is real. He is doing something he loves and feels good about. He is helping people and getting his hands dirty. A masculine man. Yummmmmmmmmm. His children probably don’t understand what he is doing now. But one day he can show tham and say that he and their mother were apart of helping to rebuild their lives. Not just here, but in other places as well. But here in the city, country were they mainly live they had a positive influence on helping people get their lives back. Box office numbers are not the measure of a man or woman. If they were 80 to 90% of the actors and actresses would be unemployed. My father worked in construction for awhile. When I was younger he would drive around showing the family all of the houses he had helped to build. There was a pride that he felt for building houses that people would eventually live in. I bet Brad is feeling that now. So is Angie. And so will their children. Peace

Yes, having friends are important. But I certainly dont want Mad to behave the way like the way Aniston does. Aniston is EXCESSIVE the way she hanged around her friends. Even her fans feel she is a 3rd wheeler to the Arquette. No wonder David Arquette calls her his 2nd wife. Look at Sheryl Crow, she is a single mom. Did you see Sheryl “cant-live-without-her-friends”?

Why is it we NEVER hear Jen talk about her mother, father, or her stepbrother? She seems to cut all ties to her BLOOD relatives .

Why is it that Jen threw a tantrum when Cox changed her mind and decided not to visit her in Oregon?

BTW, its Beowulf and its actually #2. Its shown in 3D and in IMAX. Its run will be longer. Hell, there are movies that are still running for 90+ weeks. So don’t you worry you’re pretty little head about it. For a man, you are so full of dwamah. Are you sure, you’re an accountant and not a hair stylist (not that there’s anything wrong with being one)?

Again, you’re so fond of bloating figures…you must do a lot of that with the books you’re handling. AMH does not need an add’l $16M for its marketing and advertising. You forgot something Sammy boy, it qualified as an independent film.

Brad and Angies’ movies will not lose money. And they get to do the kind of movies they like to do, instead of sticking to just one genre. AMH and TAOJJ are getting rave reviews, and so far AMH has made enough money at the BO and with DVD sales and rentals. What else do you want?

o.t. gorgeous people.just watch 101 juiciest hookups on E.anjie and papa pitt wer #1.and its 2007.lotz of hookups happened this year, and yet der #1 juiciest.obviously, not from concentrate.

I think it is great what Brad is doing in New Orleon’s. I can understand the frustration voiced by people from other towns. The media , etc. since the hurricane has focused nearly 100% on New Orleans and coverage on other places noe seems to be an afterthought. There were plenty of people in Missippi and other places in LA they were killed or affected by the hurricane. The people in LA were failed by their local, state, and national government. What I find so interesting is that th people in NO relected the mayor that so miserably failed them before and after the hurricane.

Didn’t the hard-on for B/O #s claim Beowulf wasn’t Angie’s movie since she makes only a limited appearance in it; so why should IT care if the movie makes what 300 made…

Again please get your facts straight. The box office you posted was a Friday estimate. In the end Bewolf was #3. It is fine to be a fan but don’t lie about stuff all the time.

MICRO: I thought that you guys did not believe in tabloids. If you think that they lie all the time about Brad and Angie why do you quote them about Jennifer? Actually all the stuff you guys dislike Aniston for comes from the tabloids and yet you say you don’t read them or buy them. If they lie about Brad and Angie don’t you think that they would do the same for Jennifer. If the stories are true about her then they must be true about Angie and Brad right? In all honesty I don’t believe the tabloids about Angie and Brad or Jen. It shows how immature you guys are to even quote them.

Also the 32 million is not for advertising it is because of the fact that the movie only makes about 1/2 of the actual gross brought in. That is why a movie has to double it’s gross to break even.

Also be honest Angie looks awful here.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

NOLa, you may be genuine but what you are asking people to do is foolish. What is a NOLA PO box number? Should I write a CASH cheque too?? Unfortunately, there are People who rip off others in the name of charity.

If people want to donate, to NOLA, please go to the global green website. Please google and investigate the websites carefully.

Passing through, as the resident computer expert, you may be able to answer this question for me. I regularly receive fishing emails. When I click on the link, in these fishing emails, I’m directed a webpage that is made up to resemble the bank etc in question. If I google, what is the likelihood of my ending up in one of these fake websites?

Good for Brad and Angie for helping to shift more attention to some of the areas ravaged by Katrina. Nice to see celebs actually doing something tangible. Writing a check is wonderful as well, but actually being there is in some ways more impactful.

May be that’s the reason why no movie execs want to finance her projects.

ITAWU. I think if TAOJJ was released in a bigger market, commercially it would do better than now. and It’s quite unfair a crap movie like “awake” with a rotten tomatoes meter of only 0.8 was widely released while a critically raved movie like TAOJJ (RT meter 70+,better than lion’s for lamb (RT meter 26)) was in a limited release. No wonder Tom decided to buy a studio, it does make a lot of difference with studio backing, crap movies can still make more money than a great movies.

Agree w/ BDJ and the other poster. Brad and Angie are helping the poorest of the poor. The projects in places like Minnesota or even Chicago are nothing compared to NO. The blame as to who should do more and the first step is to repair the levees and do the job right and not steal the money is with the local and state and federal government, and not Mr. Pitt.

#153 go sox @ 12/02/2007 at 7:28 pm

Let’s just say I’m a little shocked at your venom here. The Jolie-Pitts are warm, caring people, sharing their generosity and time with the world. I didn’t say anything about Aniston. I didn’t have any rude comments about their looks, their past, nothing. I can’t imagine what you all would do to a REAL hater.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Let me just say, if you are truly a good parent, you will know that the three MOST important factors to raising healthy, happy children are:

1. A mother and father who LOVE EACH OTHER as life partners. I can honestly vouch for this as I’m a product of a couple who have been married and in a loving relationship for more than 50 years.

2. A mother and father who are loving, attentive and respectful towards their children.

3. Raise them in a manner which is consistent with the parents beliefs and value system whilst understanding and accepting that one day, they will have to CHOOSE their beliefs and value systems (which goes back to respecting your children).

There are no guarantees that a child is going to turn out OK. No parent of young children or teenagers (especially teenagers) can guarantee the children are going to be OK until their children are

(a) working in careers they are passionate about or at least, enjoy,

(b) financially solvent and working towards financial independence,

(c) productive members of the community and

(d) in loving and supportive relationships with people (friends, life partners, family, work colleagues).

(have I missed anything??)

You say you are shocked by the venom. Yet you wrote “they drag their kids everywhere. Those poor kids have no roots, no sense of security and calm being in a home that’s consistent and stable” Essentially, what you are saying is that these children are deprived of security and calm, have no roots. You imply, that Brad and Angelina don’t care or love their children sufficiently to provide them with security, calm and roots of a stable home environment. To imply that a mother or father doesn’t love their child seems somewhat venemous to me.

If you truly are a parent, I’m sure one of the most hurtful things anyone can say about you is that you don’t care and don’t love your child.

Yet, there is no evidence that Brad and Angelina aren’t just that – parents who love each other and are also loving and attentive parents to their children. Certainly, they spend time with their children, taking turns to work so that the other parent has some flexibility to spend a chunk of time at home with the children. And they try to spend time with their children. As if you truly are a parent, then you will know that many a time, it is much easier to leave the kid at home with the hired help so you can go about your business. Yet, Brad and Angelina make the effort to keep their children near them and consistent with their personal beliefs, show them the world.

So, if you are shocked by the venom, it might be because when you give out harsh judgement, there is harsh judgement given back.

Honey, face it. “Beowulf” is a hit. As much as you wanted the movie to flop, it hasn’t. Crunch the numbers all you want. I imagine numbers are all you have to crunch or otherwise hold onto.

Don’t you think it’s nice that they are in New Orleans trying to make a positive difference while poor Aniston is laying around on her ass doing nothing but whining about her empty existence? Day in and day out. What else does she ever do? You tell me.

As the media and press move on to other stories, the coverage of the after effects of hurricane Katrina dwindles to almost non-existent. Brad’s Make it Right program make it possible for us to know that efforts of recovery- big or small is still being done in New Orleans.
Kudos to Brad and Angie for their continued and tireless efforts. They are indeed a power couple who can make a difference when so many are apathetic to the plight of the needy.

Get a life or get laid ok !!

I don’t think the person from Chalmette said anything racist. And what’s with the constant KKK reference? There are white people who are poor and without insurance, too. There are poor whites who can’t get anyone to help them, either. But when someone wants to shed light on that, the are immediately a klansman. Not fair. They just want a little help, not a brand new house to be given lock, stock, & barrel. But white people are racist if they need help and have no insurance. There’s nobody to help you but yourself.

And in 5 years, I bet a good many of these houses Mr. Pitt is building in the ninth ward and handing out for free will not be maintained, and will be covered with grafitti and have yards full of trash. Mr. Pitt is a good soul and seemingly has good intentions. He’s just being very naive. Too many things given away for free cause there to be no pride in ownership. And that’s no matter what color they are. Are the new owners having to do any work at all for these houses? Pay anything, even a token amount? If not, they should.

Close to Her Heart
Angelina Jolie opens up and answers the tough questions–on acting.
November 30, 2007
By Jenelle Riley
“I’m Angie.” This is how Angelina Jolie — a woman who needs no introduction — introduces herself. Jolie is many things: a humanitarian who has been a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations since 2001, a doting mother to four young children. And she’s an actor — an amazing one at that.

If people forget that last part, it might be because Jolie is also a tabloid staple, through no fault of her own. She has never been one to seek out the spotlight, and yet we understand the world’s fascination with her: From the moment she stepped on screen, it’s been clear there is something powerfully magnetic about Jolie.

Though she was born into an acting family — her parents are Marcheline Bertrand, who died earlier this year, and Jon Voight — and has been in the business since she was a teenager, it was Jolie’s roles in two cable biopics that made the world take notice. First was George Wallace, in which she played the wife of the controversial Alabama governor. But it was Gia, in which she devoured the screen as fierce and needy supermodel Gia Carangi, that made Hollywood pay attention. She won back-to-back Golden Globe Awards for her work in the films and established herself as one of the most exciting young actors to watch. She then earned a third Golden Globe — for Girl, Interrupted, in which she stole the spotlight from Winona Ryder and ended up with an Oscar for it.

The following years would prove to be a mixed bag of commercial blockbusters (Gone in 60 Seconds, Tomb Raider), ambitious failures (Beyond Borders, Alexander), and critical savaging (Original Sin), but Jolie was always captivating. In 2005 she scored her biggest hit with Mr. & Mrs. Smith, an action-comedy that tapped into the actor’s smoldering sexuality, charisma, and sense of humor. She can currently be seen (in animated form) in another blockbuster, Beowulf. This year she wowed even her biggest fans with a gut-wrenching turn as Mariane Pearl, wife of slain journalist Daniel Pearl, in A Mighty Heart. Directed by Michael Winterbottom in a stark, almost documentary style, the film details Mariane’s ordeal from Daniel’s kidnapping to the birth of their child, Adam. It’s a project close to Jolie’s heart.

Back Stage: Growing up the daughter of actors, was it a forgone conclusion you’d enter the business?

Angelina Jolie: It might have been the opposite. In some ways it was good, because I remember being very conscious of how human and regular actors were; even though my dad was a successful actor, he was very much a regular person. I suppose the one good thing about being raised in it is that you don’t have the illusion of actors being magic or special. You have a real sense that it’s just work.

Back Stage: What led you to attend the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute at 16?

Jolie: My mom studied with Lee Strasberg before he passed, and she loved him, so she wanted me to go there. I trained there a little bit, and they put on plays. It was fun. I’m not great at theatre; I think certain people are great at it, and I don’t think I have the talent that other people have when it comes to being on stage.

Back Stage: Do you still study acting or work with coaches?

Jolie: I used to work with my mom. She was the most amazing support for an actor. She used to write letters to my characters. For Girl, Interrupted, she bought me the hand puppet that I ended up using. If I’d do a sexy role, she’d buy me perfume. She always read the script, made a bunch of notes, and wrote these letters. She was a great person to talk to about things, and she loved the process so much. So now I suppose I try to hear her voice in my head.

Back Stage: In your Oscar acceptance speech, you thanked your mother for giving up her dream of becoming an actor. Could you ever leave acting behind?

Jolie: Oh, absolutely. I’ve been really, really lucky to have a career as an artist where I’ve been able to have the roles where I’ve expressed a lot and been able to play all different types of women. And I think a lot of actors still feel there’s a lot inside them that they want to communicate or something they have yet to discover. And I don’t feel that as much now as I did when I was younger. I feel like there’s a lot to discover about myself as an adult and as a mother but not as much as an actor. There aren’t those roles where I feel I’m the one who needs to do it. I start to read things now, and I think, “Somebody else would be better at this.” Oftentimes I’ll get a call, and they’ll say, “This other person would really like to do this role.” And I’m the first to say, “Well, then they should.” Because if they really want to, then that’s who should do it.

Back Stage: Do you ever have to audition anymore?

Jolie: Not really, but for Good Shepherd I had to meet with Bob [De Niro], and we looked at the scenes and read it and talked about it. Because I think he wasn’t convinced I could play somebody light, a debutante. And that’s why I wanted to do it. He didn’t know me and wanted to meet me and see if I could do it. But I liked it; I don’t necessarily want the roles that you’d assume I could do. I think, like most actors, you want the roles that they’re not sure you can do.

Back Stage: Are you someone who has always auditioned well?

Jolie: No. I think I was starting to audition around 16, 17, and would be going out for the girlfriend or the girl in high school. And I was just never that girl. I was always told that I was too dark. I went through a period, years ago, when I was told I was too ethnic. Isn’t that strange? Now I’m not ethnic enough on occasion. But there wasn’t something regular enough about me; it just didn’t fit. I went on a hundred auditions; my mom and I actually checked off the hundredth. I think my first job was as a crank addict in a film, and then my second job was, like, a cyborg. So it was clear that my career was going to be full of very bizarre, strange women — which ended up being the ones I liked anyway.

Back Stage: What was your worst audition?

Jolie: I had a really bad one for Wallace, a film I actually ended up getting. It was so bad, in fact, my manager [Geyer Kosinski] had to calm both me and [director] John Frankenheimer down. I read the character was sexy, so I went in and put on bright red lipstick and a black dress. It was a period piece, in the ’60s. Now, I don’t have big issues talking about my father, but I was trying to find myself. I walked in, and I was nervous, and I did my reading, and the first thing John Frankenheimer said was, “So, Jon’s your father.” And my heart just sank, and I thought, “He didn’t pay attention to anything I just did.” He said, “How’s he doing? What’s he up to these days?” I don’t know what it was, but I just got somewhat rude in return. I said, “I really don’t know; why don’t you call him? I have to go.” And I got a call from Geyer, saying, “You stormed out, and you were dressed like a geisha girl!” I said, “He was rude, and he didn’t pay attention to what I was saying. He didn’t even care about me as an individual.” He said, “Please go back.” I said, “I’m not getting in a room with him.” But he calmed us both down and said, “Don’t wear red lipstick, and try to go in with a better attitude.” Strangely enough, Frankenheimer and I ended up becoming best friends. We loved working together. He’s just a straightforward person who doesn’t mean to be rude, and I was overly sensitive. But yeah, we definitely went head to head when we first met.

Back Stage: After you shot Gia, which would prove to be a breakout role for you, you made the choice to stop acting for a while. Why?

Jolie: I didn’t feel I had anything else in me at the moment. I shaved my head at the end of it — there were pockets of hair we shaved for the dying scene. By the end of it, I had to actually shave my head. I separated from my husband [Jonny Lee Miller] at the end of that. And I signed up for screenwriting and directing at NYU, and I moved to New York and didn’t know anybody and went to school.

Back Stage: What brought you back?

Jolie: I started to get acknowledged for Wallace and Gia, and it became uncomfortable to go on the subway and go to school. It just got weird. But it was a really great time, and it was important for me to step back and re-evaluate and get out from in front of the camera for some time.

Back Stage: Is it true you don’t have a publicist?

Jolie: It is. I don’t have an agent either. I have one manager, and I’ve had him for 10 years. He started as an agent years ago, but he’s been a manager almost as long as I’ve been with him. I tried to have an agent for a few months. And I tried to have a publicist for two days. And neither worked out. I’m very specific about what I like to do, and I’ve been very fortunate that through working it out myself, I can somehow manage something. I’m sure that some people would disagree that I can’t handle publicity properly, but I tend to ignore it.

Back Stage: What was the process of doing performance capture for Beowulf like?

Jolie: I think a big misconception about those films is people think you just loan your voice. You have days of the camera mapping every body part and 80 different facial expressions. After you’ve done your mapping, you get in these jumpsuits and you go in with your other actors, and you’re in this big box, and it’s like you’re doing theatre. So you do everything physically you would do. There are over 300 cameras at every angle, and it’s a performance piece. They even have new things that go on your temple so it reads your eyeball movements. Everything is exact.

Back Stage: Was it difficult?

Jolie: It was so much fun. There’s something about getting a handful of actors like Anthony Hopkins and dressing everybody in these stupid jumpsuits with balls all over you that takes you immediately back to being in theatre school and playing, and we got so goofy, jumping around. It was reminding you what it was to just be an actor.

Back Stage: You’ve earned some of the best reviews of your career for playing Mariane Pearl in A Mighty Heart. Was there some sense of irony for you — someone so often in the news — to play a journalist?

Jolie: Certainly the thought of it had some irony. But the more I got into it, the more I realized there’s a real divide between tabloid and real journalism. And it was nice for me to get close to people who focus on reporting the truth — that’s their life’s work, and many of them are willing to die for it. And that’s such a noble profession and such a beautiful thing. So in my mind, there was a line, and the two weren’t the same at all. And it was good for me to reach that conclusion. I love great journalism. I appreciate and need good reporting, like anybody else.

Back Stage: You had a friendship with Mariane long before you chose to play her in the movie. Did being so close to her make it easier or harder to tell her story?

Jolie: Oh, God. [A long pause.] It was both. The more I got to know her and [Daniel Pearl's] parents and her son, the more pressure I felt. She never came to the set, but she was there the night before we started shooting in France to wish everybody luck. Our kids are great friends, and they were sitting together, and I was thinking, “One day Adam is going to watch this, and from tomorrow on I’m going to try to represent how much his parents loved each other and who they are and how his mother felt about this happening.” It just became one of the biggest responsibilities to another person that I’d ever had. So that was very hard. And it was also hard to kind of mimic her, because she became somebody I knew. So it was almost like if somebody said, “Stand up in front of your close friend and do an impression.” It’s horrible. You don’t want to do it. But from the beginning, she felt that I should do it. So I just took her lead and thought, If she has faith in me, I guess it’ll be all right.

Back Stage: How important was the mimicry?

Jolie: We thought about that a lot. Michael doesn’t like any kind of wig or contacts; he doesn’t want touchups on set; there’s no trailers. And I didn’t want anything that would stop the process. He and I talked about it, and we had actually said if it was going to take too long to get it on or be at all distracting, just forget it. So we had a test, and some people I’ve worked with for years found contacts in seven different shades of brown, and we tried a wig. The feeling from everybody was if everybody looks at this and is almost distracted by it, then we’ll have to figure out something else. But we all felt it was all right.

Back Stage: Nothing can take you out of a movie faster than a bad wig.

Jolie: I remember when I put that wig on. We did the camera test next door to our house, and I came over, and I saw my son, and he said, “Why are you dressed like Adam’s mommy?” And I thought, “Oh, we’ve got it!”

Back Stage: And you did end up going with contact lenses.

Jolie: I think you have to have a long talk. We tested in sunlight; we tested in dark rooms. In Gia she had brown eyes, but we didn’t go for contacts. Because at the time, the camera we were using wasn’t letting enough light in the eyes, and it was losing life. Ultimately [with A Mighty Heart] we didn’t want people to be distracted. There were just so many things that could go wrong, and it was something we all wanted to do so right, with all our hearts. So we were just so happy that it came out all right. All I was waiting for was the call from Mariane and the word from his parents. I could have gotten every bad review across the country, but when they told me that they felt strongly about it, it was — that was the only thing that mattered.

Back Stage: How did you know when she had seen it?

Jolie: I knew Mariane saw it because she called the studio one day and said she was ready to see it. And I had heard that. And then I didn’t hear from her for a week. And I thought, “Oh, no.” I was heartbroken. And then I got the most beautiful email from her. She’s such a gracious, gracious woman.

Back Stage: How did you get to a place of such emotion for some of those gut-wrenching scenes, particularly when Mariane learns Daniel isn’t coming home?

Jolie: The strange thing about the film is, because we shot it almost documentary-style and pretty much in order, because this was a story we all knew, there was something haunting about retracing the steps of this real incident. And when the [hostage] pictures came through on the email, it was that odd feeling of, We’ve seen this in the papers, and now we’re sitting in this room, and God, what it must have felt like for her to get these pictures. So that carried us through the whole film. As we were getting near the end, we all started to get very quiet those last few days. The night they had to come back and tell me, we were all very emotional anyway. Usually as an actor, you come forward and think about in your mind something happening to somebody you love. My mom was sick at the time, and I thought, “I’ll allow myself to think about that.” But something happened on that night where it just didn’t seem necessary to think about anything else, and we all just kind of purged whatever it was that we’d been feeling for the months about the horrors of the reality of the situation. And we all just became really emotional. It’s a strange experience for an actor. Fortunately, as an actor I knew not to clutter it with something else and allow it. That was the choice.

Back Stage: You’ve worked with so many amazing filmmakers. What do you hope for in a director?

Jolie: The ability to be decisive. There are so many directors that seem to just not wake up sure of exactly how they’re going to do something in a day, and there’s a lot of people waiting for them. And it doesn’t inspire confidence. I’m having the great fortune of working with Clint Eastwood right now, who’s probably the most decisive human being on the planet. He’s famous for doing things quickly, and it’s not because he doesn’t have the energy to do it a thousand times. He’s just very clear about what’s going to be in the movie, what’s not going to be in the movie, what not to waste people’s energy on, and can make a decision on the spot about huge things. So even a few weeks into this film, I actually know in my mind what it is we’re making.

Back Stage: Acting is only one of your careers. How did you become interested in humanitarian causes?

Jolie: You start traveling around, and you notice there’s quite a lot you don’t know. I’m fascinated by other cultures and histories, and I realized I didn’t quite get the education I wish I had. So I wanted to learn more. Wanting to learn about what’s going on with people of the world, you just come across different things. I came across refugees, and I was just really shocked that there could be that many people uprooted. As you do in life, sometimes things just ring true to you and become things you know you’re passionate about. So I called Washington one day and went to an office and started to do research. A few weeks later, I was on a plane into Sierra Leone. And grew up 10 years as a woman just being in a situation that I just did not know existed in the world. And was never to want for more after that day. Was never to complain about silly things after that day.

Back Stage: Do you think these interests led to you wanting to become a parent — you adopted your first child, Maddox, in 2002 — or was it the other way around?

Jolie: I think it came hand in hand. I think the reality of it grounded me in a way where I suddenly realized that I did care about children in that way. And I was grounded enough at that time in my life that I could give my life to this. I think you make that decision when you’re a mother that you will never be that thoughtless again of how you are with yourself. You now live for somebody else, and you can’t be self-destructive, and you can’t be selfish. I had gotten a little lesson in life to know that I was evolved enough as a person to be ready to be a mom. And then little Mad came, and everything changed. He’s been like my teacher in life. And continues to be.

Something to think about at this time of year.

also these houses should not be an entitlement to anyone….they should be proud to own it by participating in building them and to take care of them….jmo

so,i’ll have papa pitt tomorrow.i hope his gonna put on a pirate hat this tym.

Good to know that they are supporting the people of New Orleans , I’m sure they are very appreciative of the Jolie-Pitt’s effort to make a difference on the lives of the people of NO. They look so tired but still managed to smile for the camera. God bless them always. I will watch the Today Show tomorrow & on Dec. 5 the Larry King Live interview of Brad Pitt.

Brad and Angelina’s generosity is why we all should go to any movie they are in. The more they make the more they give to the needy.

The homes are not free. They have to be bought like any other home. The homeowners have to either own a lot or buy one. Brad’s program will also provide loans to buy homes. So this is not giving someone a free home, that is a lie. Ignorance is no defence for your negativity. Homeowners in the Lower 9th Ward kept their homes up like any other home owner. You are a biased and prejudiced person.

heya Ate Char, Alex…anustin….MAMS….happy sunday to ALL….almost monday…back to the grind… :-D

256 homes are not free
Too true. Many of the people in the Lower 9th ward have owned their homes and property going back generations. These homes are not free hand-outs or welfare houses. The homeowners have to qualify and there is a long waiting list. It is understandable that some communities will feel left out. However, the bigger shame is that the US government has neglected not only New Orleans but most of the Gulf Coast Area. Brad Pitt is one man who saw a need and mobilize. Others should do the same.

homes are not free

oh…okay…i am responding coz i agree w/ marty about owning the house and be proud of it by taking care of it….so thanks for the clarification….peace… :-D

Thank you, I appreciate your comments. Indeed there are people of all colors who need help. I just don’t see everyone who is poor getting help just because they are poor. There is far too much division among color lines of the poor as to who gets the most help. There is a misperception that white people don’t need help simply because they are white, like somehow being white makes your poverty not as bad.

What makes me biased and prejudiced? I said the homes would not be kept up if they were given out for free NO MATTER WHAT COLOR the people are.

However, thank you for the info that the houses are not free. That is good to know.

Now, possibly Denzel Washington or Morgan Freeman should follow Mr. Pitt’s example and help the people of Chalmette. That might go a long way to even the playing field and help race relations.

These two are amazing people. They do so much. I hope the rest of the world follows. Thanks Brad and Angie! Your generosity will give you great karma in teh world as well as your beautiful children!

# 267 Make it Right @ 12/02/2007 at 10:32 pm Mr. Pitt is asking foundations, corporations and individuals to contribute to the project by adopting one house, several houses or a portion of a house through the project Web site, makeitrightnola.org. “You can adopt a tankless water heater or a solar panel or a tree or a low-flush toilet,” Mr. Pitt said. “You can give it to someone for Christmas,” he said — instead of another sweater.

Hiya jjoy, Happy Sunday to you as well and yep it is almost Monday which means work work and more work lol

marty @ 12/02/2007 at 9:07 pm

Marty, those houses are not being given away. People will have to buy them. Maybe that is why there is so much anger. To my knowledge Brad has never said these houses were for free. At the last news confrence he had in NO I believe he said they would priced at afforable prices. That doesn’t sound like free. To my knowledge there is no entitlement, except you had to have lived in the 9th ward. But you must buy the house to live in it. No one has ever denied that there were other people affected by Katrina. There were. And they need help. But when you say Katrina what picture does your mind conjure up? Poor black people wading through filty, unthinkable water. Trapped in a dome without food or water working toilets . Stuck without transportation and without water, baby formula, diapers and watching little babies crying and dying. Listening to that old man telling a reporter how his wife told him to save the children and let her go. And his saying in response to her question about what was he going to do and where was he going. That he didn’t know. Those are powerful images. They don’t leave your subconcious. That doesn’t mean that others shouldn’t be helped. And that others didn’t suffer. But don’t get angry at Brad and Angie because they are starting in the 9th ward. No one knows what is going to happen. No one knows what Brad has planned. But no should expect Brad to solve all of the problems of NO. He and Angie fund so many charities and are trying to help as many as possible. The percevied thought that one group of people might get something another group will not get is truly divisive. But it happenss everyday. When it is rich people getting the breaks, think taxes no one seems to object. But when it is thought to be one poor group over another, well it is a different story.

Okay fans don’t get upset with me on this one. But I am not agreeing with Sam. I am saying that the photo of Angie displayed at the top of this page is not one of her most flattering. Does she look awful, as Sam maintains. No she does not. And here is where Sam loses. Because he knows, I know, and the world knows that with the brush of her hair she will look gorgeous. This picture was taken probably with a camera phone, and at a terrible angle. I make no excuses for her. Because she makes no excuses for herself. I am certain when Angie left her house that morning she was fully aware of how she looked. And she was at ease with that look. That speaks of her confidence in herself. It also says that she is visiting a construction site where there is mud, standing water, and she is carrying a child. This is not her taking her children to school, doing a photoshoot, or a red carpet pose. It seems like simple logic. You dress for the occasion. And this occasion is a visit to a construction site where her husband is trying to help some poor homeless people who were not helped by their government. Angie could never look awful, even if she tried.

And gawd I am so tired of the trolls saying that Brad and Angie look tired. On the red carpet in London the trolls were forthing at the mouth saying how tired they looked. They had just traveled for about 10 hours. Also now we find out now that Brad was in talks with the studio who is producing SOP. That will make you look tired. It will make Angie tired to know that her husband i having doubts about a script and a movie he has been attached to for 18 months. Also to be taking on this rebuilding project will cause a few sleepless nights. Trolls/haters let it go. These people are fine and doing good things. But I guess that is why your heads are splitting. Peace.

Totally agree with you - if it appears again I will flag it - saw it on another thread - someone just going around advertizing a website. Probably same person who keeps say that “such and such was seen on millionaire dating service — see that on loads of threads - quite annoying they just change the celebs name - must think we are all slow in the head or something.

Now, possibly Denzel Washington or Morgan Freeman should follow Mr. Pitt’s example and help the people of Chalmette. That might go a long way to even the playing field and help race relations.

Marty, just as Brad made a decision to help the people in the 9th ward. Denzel and Morgan as grown adult men have the freedom to make any decision they want on how to spend and where to donate their money. Denzel has been very generous giving to colleges. It is not Denzel’s and Morgan’s responsibility to level the playing field. It is this kind of thinking that smacks of racism. Maybe you should change your way of thinking and that might help to level the playing field. Peace

Hey dina #1, I totally hear you on your points, and I realize I am just jumping in here, but please just remember that the images that were shown in the media of the Superdome were not of everyone. The outer areas of Mississippi got practically no coverage and no help, and there were all kinds of people out there. I have relatives in the Biloxi area, and it was really bad. They are also not back in their house yet, but they are working hard to rebuild. They feel a little left out, because their rural area is not as glamourous as NO, so they don’t get any coverage. I’m just saying there were others, non-blacks, who were in conditions just as bad, the media just didn’t put them on the covers of any magazines.

Adorable couple.

Is there really criticism by ANYONE because Pitt has chosen this area to work on? Because he’s not single handedly repairing the whole city? Come on. That is just amazing.

Get your damn government to help and stop voting for corrupt government officials or politicians that don’t care about you. That might help. Stop supporting the segregation and resultant poverty that contributes to the powerlessness of the area.

The feds feel free to ignore those without power and money. Louisiana is guilty of maintaining an economy and a culture that perpetuates poverty among minorities. You can’t ignore the historical environment that allowed the city and surrounding areas to be in a position to become so victimized and easily ignored.

If other areas of the city want help like this they can get together and try contacting those with resources (foundations, celebs, corporations) and asking for help. Come up with a plan and sell it.

Morgan is from Mississippi and still lives in Mississippi and donates his time and money all over the state. The Gulf Coast was demolished from HK and it’s just over the bridge from NOLA and it didn’t get the help that NOLA got and is still getting. I’m glad people are still helping in NOLA but I fell like they overlook the Gulf Coast.

I lived 3 years in Gulfport , MS when my husband was stationed there.
Some people are bitter and frustrated by the media constant focus on NO and making it sound like they went through so much more when they did not. Many people were killed in Biloxi/Gulfport area as well as many homes destroyed. Race should not be made an issue. People of allraces and facets of life were affected by this. While I appreciate what Brad( and Angelina) do for New Orleons, I’ve donated money that help places devestated in MS that often times are a media afterthought because of the hype about New Orleons.

Brad Pitt busy making it right in the Lower 9

STAFF PHOTO BY MATTHEW HINTON

Actor Brad Pitt near the corner of North Roman and Deslonde in the Lower 9th Ward, New Orleans. At the center of a buzzing construction zone in the heart of the worst-ravaged corner of the Lower 9th Ward, movie megastar Brad Pitt took a break Sunday afternoon to imagine the future.

Strewn around him a half-mile in every direction were hundreds of enormous pink blocks, 8-foot-high boxes and huge triangular wedges, representing the uprooted foundations and dislocated roofs that littered the area beside the Industrial Canal for months after Hurricane Katrina.

“Right now there are scattered blocks, like they were scattered by fate’s hand, symbolic of the aftermath of the storm,” Pitt said as crews installed more of the metal-and-tarp structures. “But we will be flipping the homes, essentially righting the wrong.”

In his first extensive one-on-one interview since moving his family to New Orleans last year, Pitt shared with The Times-Picayune on Sunday details of this next phase of his $12 million “Make It Right” project: a vast public art display to be unveiled today as a fundraiser to expand the project beyond its initial goal of 150 homes, and possibly into other neighborhoods and parishes.

Pitt, 43, also spoke of his years-long love for New Orleans, which he thinks will thrive again despite the propensity of some public officials to let the city “die on the vine,” and his hope that national leaders will use the ongoing disaster as an impetus to retool public policy with an eye toward the poor.

Katrina “illuminated the brutal truth that there’s a portion of our society that we’re not looking after, that we are marginalizing. And that shouldn’t be,” said Pitt, who watched the horrific televised images of the flooded city in 2005 from Calgary, Alberta, where he was filming the 2006 movie “The Assassination of Jesse James.”

Green-friendly homes

Steering the conversation away from himself, Pitt focused on Make It Right’s efforts to build affordable, environmentally friendly, storm-safe houses for residents of the Lower 9th Ward on the same lots where their old homes once stood. In announcing the project in September at a meeting of world leaders on global warming, Pitt and philanthropist Steve Bing pledged $5 million each to jump-start the project.

“This cannot be about me,” he said Sunday from inside a trailer at the project site. “I am fortunate to have a big spotlight in my hand, and I can point it in a direction.”

Today that place will be the section of the Lower 9th Ward best-known as the spot where a barge came to rest after floating through a fractured levee. Pitt is slated to lead news reporters on a tour around the area’s conglomeration of pink art pieces, then to issue a public call to corporations, foundations and church organizations around the world to “adopt” the blocks, for $150,000 each, to support his project.

Donors also will be invited to make smaller gifts — from $5 to $45,500 — to sponsor the individual elements of the houses’ eco-friendly designs, such as fluorescent bulbs, low-flush toilets and solar-panel installations. More information is available at the project’s Web site, http://www.makeitrightnola.org.

With the average house slated to cost between $100,000 and $174,000, planners expect participants to contribute some money, including insurance and Road Home proceeds, toward construction. But they expect most homeowners will fall about $70,000 short of paying off their new homes. To fill the gap, Make It Right plans to offer forgivable loans of as much as $100,000, with the caveat that applicants must have owned a home or lot in the Lower 9th Ward before Katrina.

Pink ’screams the loudest’

Eventually, Pitt said, planners will turn the all-natural pink fabric covering into novelty items, such as bags, that will be sold to raise more money.

“Why pink? For me it screams the loudest,” Pitt said. “It says that this place, where so many people thrived, is still sitting there like a barren wasteland, and we can change that.”

In addition to being a tool for fundraising, the giant pink pieces will, Pitt said, become the ornamentation for a nightly driving tour in the style of City Park’s annual “Celebration in the Oaks” festival, albeit with a more somber focus. Expected to open to the public Tuesday evening and extend for five weeks, the tour will feature the large pieces interspersed with 1,000 smaller bulbs representing the residents who died in Katrina. All the lights will be solar-powered, he said.

In addition, the whole installation will be laid out in the precise pattern of the constellations as they glowed on the night of Aug. 29, 2005, he said.

Though the vast work of art aims to draw attention to the Make It Right project, Pitt said it also reflects the “vitality” of the city that he first visited in 1994 during the filming of “Interview with the Vampire” and adopted as his home a year ago, when he and his partner, actress Angelina Jolie, bought a house in the French Quarter.

New Orleans is “the only place that we could do something as crazy as what you see out there and it not be considered so crazy, that it (could) actually be fun,” he said. “This is the place of Mardi Gras. This is the place where I had a parade going by my house yesterday. I have no idea what for. It was at noon. I have no idea, but it made me smile.”

‘We love it here’

Saying he plans to spend the next several weekends in the city, Pitt reiterated a point he has made before: that New Orleans offers himself, Jolie and their four children uncommon tranquillity.

“We love it here,” he said. “And for some reason we can have some semblance of a normal life here. The folks treat us so well and give us space and let us be a family. We don’t have that luxury in other major cities.”

A prime focus of Pitt’s work in the coming months will be helping a team of nearly 200 planners, many working for free, turn Make It Right plans into reality. Tom Darden, the project’s executive director, said 13 architecture firms from around the globe that lent their efforts pro bono have finished schematic designs and are working on blueprints.

Eight pilot families have been chosen, all with lots in the three blocks of Tennessee Street between North Claiborne Avenue and Galvez Street, Darden said. Construction is expected to begin by the end of March.

“I am telling you, there are going to be families returning into homes, they’ll be spending Christmas here next year,” Pitt said. “They won’t have to spend another Christmas away from home. Next Thanksgiving: turkey dinner.”

Pitt acknowledged that even as Make It Right nears groundbreaking on its pilot homes, the project he first pitched to residents in February has faced hurdles, including the deep skepticism of a community where residents lived for years amid abandoned properties, failing public schools and escalating crime fueled by the illegal drug trade.

Cautiously optimistic, residents demanded full participation in the project. And they got it by way of weekly meetings in their neighborhood with architects and planners. Each time architects returned from their drawing boards, residents have said, their plans included more of neighbors’ suggestions, from the inclusion of backup fuel sources for solar-powered appliances to wheelchair ramps to reach elevated first floors.

“I come from Missouri,” Pitt said. “They call it the Show Me State. I grew up with the same nature. When you know the story here, (can you) question that the locals here would question some outsider coming in?

“Look at the way the freeways are laid in,” he said. “They’re just laid right on top of neighborhoods. It’s so clear some of them were laid out for the needs of a few and not the needs of many.”

‘A social justice issue’

Aiming to even the balance, Pitt — a professed “technology junkie” — has steered his curiosity about advances in environmental design into a requirement that any Make It Right house incorporate such items as energy-efficient appliances, south-facing roofs laden with solar panels, outdoor space for composting, and interior finishes made from products that are not harmful to residents’ health or the environment.

“This to me is a social justice issue, too,” he said. “They’re not getting the crap materials that give your kids asthma, increase your health bills. They’re not getting the cheap appliances that are going to run up your bills and keep that burden on you. It’s a respectful way to treat people.”

Broadly, Pitt said he hopes such issues will be raised during the 2008 presidential campaign. He also wants candidates to address directly the ongoing struggle of hurricane victims across the Gulf Coast.

“I would challenge all the candidates to focus on what’s going on down here, what’s not going on here,” he said. “We’re going to build some houses here, but there are bigger issues that need to get answered here, such as education and health. These need to be major factors of the campaign.

“My point is: If you can’t get it right down here, you’re not getting it right anywhere. This is the place to do it, and there’s definitely a need for it right now. I hope to see it become one of the major issues of the upcoming campaign, not as a tool to beat the past administration but as a real focus on the problems of this country.”

Even as Make It Right revs up, Pitt said he remains concerned about New Orleans’ future and criticized the failure of local leaders to make clear decisions, such as which parts of the city will be rebuilt and how.

“Someone said that it was like it was being left to die on the vine, and I couldn’t put it any better than that, meaning there’s no real effort either way,” he said. “There’s just been no clear line drawn.”

Public officials say, “¤’We want you to come back, but we’re only going to give you a little bit (of money) to come back.’ It just hasn’t been a strong enough, clear plan of direction,” he said.

Nevertheless, Pitt said residents’ resilience will pull the city back to its feet.

“The thing is, I don’t believe it will ever die on the vine,” he said. “There’s just too many seventh-generation families. They’re not letting this place go under.”

Yes, yes, I know. I was just responding to dina #1’s comment about the media images. I think what Brad is doing is very commendable, and possibly his actions will help bring some attention to the other areas, too. Some people who had insurance, and paid their premiums all these years might as well not have had any because this storm bankrupted their insurance company, so they got nothing.

And as for rich people who are black, white, or green, they tend to only care about other rich people. Rich white people aren’t any more prone to helping poor white people any more than rich black people are prone to helping poor black people. That’s why Brad’s actions are remarkable. He’s crossing a line that only a few are willing to do. And if what Brad is doing makes some other rich person feel guilty about their lack of action, then I think that’s great.

IAWY and I think I mentioned that other areas were affected. But NO was hit the hardest. I never said the other areas shouldn’t be helped. But I don’t think people should get upset because Brad isn’t starting with their area. All of LA needs help. So do you get angry at Brad? Or do you write your local, state and federal representatives? My comments were addressed to those who seem to be hating on Brad and Angie. Remember these people are starting here. Brad seems to have plans to extend this project. So let us all just chill. Peace

You are putting words in my mouth. I never once mentioned color. I described the images I saw and was shocked, and the world saw and was shocked. I am not making this a color issue. I think that would be someone else. Peace

Jared, I wish you would delete jjoy #155. No need for her vile comment!

Zaraha looks so much like Angie–I’ve noticed it for a long time.

wth @ 12/02/2007 at 11:22 pm Angelina does look tired in this photo. hello! she ’s pretty but she looks like she just rolled out of bed and Brad looks like a skinny old man.

Why not bash the water hawker who made 110 m from a fake marriage just to spend it on her new nose and fake relationships.

She doesnt have 4 kids to take care off and had a lot of work done on her face and still look plain. Any mother and father will look tired too if they work and have to look after 4 children.

Angie looking tired just proves that she is a hands down mom.

That smart water sure has dilluted your brain to bean curd

Saying he plans to spend the next several weekends in the city, Pitt reiterated a point he has made before: that New Orleans offers himself, Jolie and their four children uncommon tranquillity.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Only the weekends? now that angie and him have no more movies, I tought they will move full time to NOLA.

Maybe angelina and the kids will stay in L.A on weekdays.

For “Original Sin” to have tanked, the premium channels love to show it! It was on FX tonight and has been on Oxygen and Bravo all last week. It has been on every week for the last 3-4 weeks. Someone likes it! I had never seen it before when it came out; was not into Angie. But I love her and Antonio together.

Ah hell…I’m all kindsa upset! I missed another ShitzySpamboGal scree! Golly…what to do, what to do, what to do…I know…I’LL STILL MAKE FUN OF HER!

Shitzy - Didn’t read your latest drivel per usual, but damn…it’s kinda strange how you showed up here right after O2 kicked “Go Sox” off the curb and into the gutter where she belongs. Now, I’m not accusing you of adding another name to your Sybil routine…I’m just gonna say flat-out that it was you. Seriously…you need to wait at least an hour before showing up under you “Sam” persona.

But then you have the gall to wait 2 minutes and post as “Go Sox” again…like we’re not gonna notice!

# 152 go sox @ 12/02/2007 at 7:28 pm

Seriously…James Brown said “Papa’s Got A Brand New Bag” and now it’s time for Mama to get one as well because the bag your coming out of is all soggy, wet and stinky from your own excriment.

Give some thought to maybe finding a new site to post on where people don’t know your asinine routine quite so well. Then maybe you MIGHT actually fool a couple of people. “MIGHT” being the operative word.

God, I really can’t stand people and their B/S… if Brad and Angie wasn’t in NO at this moment in TIME giving attention to the lower 9th Ward, NO ONE would be mentioning Mississippi and all the other areas that are NOT getting hyped by the media…. All the complainers didn’t mention any of these areas in however many threads we have had since the last NO thread or CGI thread; BUT Brad a frigging private citizen is doing his best to help and and folks have stuff to say about it.

Question? Where did Brad and Angie buy their house; in the frigging French Quarters, so it would stand to reason that they would help FIRST in the county where they “live”. Seriously ENOUGH already! If u want to help the 9th Ward help if not just let Brad and the makeitright folks do what they are doing…

+++++++++++++++

God…I am soooooo ticked off at myself! Had I known ShitzySpamboGal was going to show up to play her, “Look, I’m someone else, not me!” game I wouldn’t have gone off to do other things! Damn…making fun of her 4 hours later just ain’t as much fun as it is in real time. Major bummer….

Angie’s still not finished with The Changeling. That’s why they are only going to be there on the weekends. Once she wraps, that obviously might change whether they are there more often. Since Brad doesn’t spend much time away from his family it makes all the sense in the world that he’d wait until they were free to go to NO as a family.

To all the whiners

In his first extensive one-on-one interview since moving his family to New Orleans last year, Pitt shared with The Times-Picayune on Sunday details of this next phase of his $12 million “Make It Right” project: a vast public art display to be unveiled today as a fundraiser to expand the project beyond its initial goal of 150 homes, and possibly into other neighborhoods and parishes.

That’s it.

To Marty - NOT FREE as previously mentioned

With the average house slated to cost between $100,000 and $174,000, planners expect participants to contribute some money, including insurance and Road Home proceeds, toward construction. But they expect most homeowners will fall about $70,000 short of paying off their new homes. To fill the gap, Make It Right plans to offer forgivable loans of as much as $100,000, with the caveat that applicants must have owned a home or lot in the Lower 9th Ward before Katrina.

BS it most certainly is a race issue for the naysayers as the 9th ward is 99% black yet the moaning and anager is for Pitt spending his time and concern on the 9th ward which means black people.

Before it was why is he not doing anything in this country, now it is why isn’t he single-handedly buidling houses for everyone on the gulf and all areas of Louisiana.

no one can person can save everybody. you do what you can if it is voluteer work becuase you don’t have the money to donating $5 million because you do. Then as always people who have no concept of what we are talking about here, billions of dollars for this region, no one can person can do this. Even Bill Gates if he donated $1 billion would not solve all the problems and if it did what happens with other disasters or the next disaster? Floods? Fires? AIDS research? March of Dimes? It is always something.
Instead of asking for Denzel or Morgan to give away all of their money that they lawfully earned why not ask Bill gates to give away all his to the white people in Louisiana? You would say that is crazy but have no problem thinking denzel or Morgan should give away all their money.

Mr. Pitt is doing what he wants w/ the time, money and fame he lawfully earned. what gives you the right to tell him or any one what they should do w/ their money? Last I looked this is America and as Americans we can do what we want w/ our lawfully earned time and money. This is not China which takes a portion of what their athletes and its not taxes, like Yao Ming earn.
Soory for the long post but sick and tired of these trolls who do nothing for their own community but gripe all the time about what the Jolie-Pitts do w/ their time and money.

# 256 homes are not free @ 12/02/2007 at 10:02 pm marty @ 12/02/2007 at 9:07 pm

The homes are not free. They have to be bought like any other home. The homeowners have to either own a lot or buy one. Brad’s program will also provide loans to buy homes. So this is not giving someone a free home, that is a lie. Ignorance is no defence for your negativity. Homeowners in the Lower 9th Ward kept their homes up like any other home owner. You are a biased and prejudiced person.

+++++++++++++

Doesn’t it kill you when ignorant ass-wipes come here with an uninformed “opinion” and try to preach at us?

Note to trolls - do your homework or end up on the bottom of someone’s shoe where you’ll have to spend eternity with the likes of ShitzySpamboGal.

emily @ 12/03/2007 at 12:02 am - Even if Brad and makeitright doesn’t expand to other area THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT!!! He is doing a wonderful thing… HE DOESN’T HAVE TO DO IT!!! A sh*tload of other celebs and millionaires are sitting around enjoying their wealth and doing NOTHING to help anybody else.

# 333 rachel Sun @ 12/03/2007 at 12:18 am BS it most certainly is a race issue for the naysayers as the 9th ward is 99% black yet the moaning and anager is for Pitt spending his time and concern on the 9th ward which means black people.

Now, possibly Denzel Washington or Morgan Freeman should follow Mr. Pitt’s example and help the people of Chalmette. That might go a long way to even the playing field and help race relations.

+++++++++++

So much for you claim that the people of Chalmette aren’t racists. Why should you require 2 black actors help out white Chalmettes just because a white actor is help the black people of the Lower 9th? Why not Tom Cruise? He’s got more money than Denzel & Morgan put together but he gives his dollars to a bunch of lunatics who think there are aliens from another planet living in Earth’s volcanoes.

Why not ask ANY other famous philanthropist for the help? Why Washington & Freeman? Oh snap…could it be because your sheet slipped?

emily @ 12/02/2007 at 11:13 pm

I have a friend who lives in Biloxi and he tells me the rebuilding efforts are almost totally focused on the casinos and building condos and housing for the upper-middle-class. The poor and the working class, as usual, are getting the crappy end of the stick.

marty @ 12/02/2007 at 9:07 pm

Peace.

QQQQ & lylian, good posts as usual. 4q you are right if Brad wasn’t there no one would hear any complaints about other areas. And who is to say what is the right thing for Brad to do. Remember he is a private citizen, not a government. Peace.
