Nikki Blonsky and her younger brother, Joey, walk the green carpet at Movies Rock: A Celebration Of Music In Film held at the Kodak Theatre on Sunday in Hollywood.
Movies Rock will be broadcast this Friday, Dec. 7 @ 9PM ET/PT on CBS.
Nikki, 19, has laid out plays for a musical show she hopes to take on the road next year.
“I’m putting my own choral show together to do with the Turtle Creek Chorale in Dallas, Texas, on Dec. 16 at the Texas Philharmonic,” she says. “It’s the first time I’ve ever gotten the chance to put my own show together, and I hope it goes well. The theme of my show is ‘Anything can happen, follow your dreams.’ I’m just going to be singing a lot of fun songs that mean something to me and hopefully will mean something to my audience. Then, hopefully, by the time I’m ready to take the show on the road fully, I’ll have my album out and have worked in songs from the album.”

Love this young gal and what she stands for in this world of bashers and haters. How do any of you know how much exercise she gets? Her dancing and performance in Hairspray took hours of practice and tons of exercise and she was super, energetic, and just plain awesome…..and yes plus sized even through all that intense training.
Give her a break. Nikki is pretty and a fantastic person. She put up with bullying all her life and she managed to rise above it all and find success.

She really is overweight (her brother more so). Can an overweight woman be beautiful? Yes. Does that mean she is healthy? Not at all. Is carrying all that extra weight good for your body? Never. So defend her all you want. When someone says she is fat - this is not attacking her talent nor her brains. It also does not mean that person is necessarily shallow.
In regards to another comment - although she is an adult and can do as she chooses. ‘Brilliant’ parents would teach there children to eat sensibly. I am sure they are loving - maybe a little to much in some areas though. Granted no ne here really knows them. Congratulations to Nikki Blonsky for a job well done in Hairspray. It was my favorite movie of the summer and she gained my respect and support for her performance and her perseverance . She overcame huge obstacles and found success in a place where only the thin and beautiful usually survive.
Nikki is a smart,beautiful, mature and extremely poised talent for her age. Those were just a few of the words John Travolta used to describe her…..I think he knows what he’s talking about.

Don’t try the BMI doesn’t account for muscle mass either because she is clearly not a football linebacker. Although she dances and such - which is in her favor it won’t prolong health problems forever.

Paloma…that is a lie. Talk to any cardiologist. There is no way this girl is eating healthy (also the right quantities) as well as exercising. First I wanna thank you Jared for the Nikki love, I forgot in my first post and I wanted to let you know that as a fan of Nikki I appreciate you posting stories about her!
I have no words for some of you people, and I will not say names because ignorance and cruelty doesn’t deserved to be acknowledged.
My promblem with you negative people is that you don’t realize it is HER life and she can live it as she wishes. Yes I understand being overweight can reduse your life expectancy and I am sure she does do but if you live life constantly worrying about always eating right and being a ”healty” weight then when do you have the time to enjoy it? Nikki is just enjoying her life and living her dream, get off her back and stop saying you only bash her because her weight concernes you, you could give a rats a**.
Plus I bet many of you didn’t know they had to BEG Nikki to eat more during the shoot because all her dancing and exercising was making her lose weight dramatically and they couldn’t have that for the movie. So it goes to show she does stay active and it does work but if she is happy at her present weight and size then who are we to worry and judge?
I don’t worry when a star or celebrity is too skinny, that is how they want to be and are most comfortable in their skin.
Also for those of you that thinks he won’t go anywhere because society doesn’t precieve “heavy” well, just because the majority of the world sees pesimistically doesn’t mean everyone does. Nikki is an optaistic person ready to get out there and take on any roles she is premitted and is something she likes. She has gotten nothing BUT praise from anyone that has come into contact with her and that will build her hollywood credentials and make people in the industy want her because they saw in Hairspray just how talented she is and they know she is a great person based on anything anyone has said about her.
So get off her back and enjoy the talent and amazing-ness she is presenting to us and the world. If there were more people like Nikki in this world it would be such a better place for interaction and entertainment. I can’t wait to see where Nikki’s emense talent takes her becuase I know it will be far beyond the stars!

Yes! Melissa thank you so much for saying that! She is the best type of role model, because she promotes self-love whatever size you are! She doesn’t go out and say ”hey be ‘bigger’ ” so you can be more like me and become famous and rich. She wants people to love who they are and not want to be a certain way to be accepted, that is the right type of lesson we should be teaching young girls who are idolizing celbrities.

Did it ever occur to anyone that she had to keep the weight on for her most recent movie role? I too read how she was losing so much weight on the set of HS that they kept stuffing her with food because they did not want her getting too thin!
The sad part is that Hollywod has embraced her for her talent and wish her well. And yet, the common everyday fan still degrades her for her size.

Nikki is very young and has all the time to lose weight in her own terms…so many others have doen it like Rikki Lake has and I can see Nikki going that path too….she will eventually most likely try to do it for health reasons….she has ZE as one of her best friends and he may also be a good infuence to her…since he is so much into healthy stuff and getting fit…

–still amazes me how people can be so harsh to a person they don’t know from adam. Nikki is in no way ”obease” I am sorry but the girl is only 4′10 so any weight on her is gonna go out because there is no up or down for it to go. So she is gonna look heavier than if she was the normal height. I am sure that if she went to the doctor and he told her that she was putting her health in danger she would do something, but I doubt he has because she is not “morbidly obease” that is a rediculous statement. I have seen girls her height that ARE morbidly obease and they look nothing like Nikki. She looks beautiful and healthy for her age and life, again I stress the idea that if she is happy then that is all that matters as it is her life and not ours.

Regardless of the rights and wrongs and medical conditions, people prize appreciation above depreciation. Why is it so hard for some people to see that?
People are only exposing their own shallow values when they say she won’t succeed. She’s succeeded already by the very fact that you’re sitting here discussing her, an irony lost on many I fear.
I think what a lot of people seem to be missing is what actually constitutes a successful acting career. Some people become celebrities, other people become actors. Nikki Blonsky is in the latter category. She may not be able to play ‘every’ role but she will play MANY roles because she by definition of not being your sterotypical lead, is a character actress and this is a plus factor in her career NOT a minus. Let’s remind ourselves of another young actress once considered unconventional…

These are the people Hollywood truly respects and everyone Nikki has worked with, been interviewed by and generally come in contact with professionally concur, she is a star in the making.
Nikki could act in a variety of roles for years, never being a ‘leading lady’ and yet she would still be a highly successful actress. With her voice she can certainly tour and take on Broadway whch I have absolutely no doubt she will. I believe she is a character actress (with triple threat abilities) with strong crossover potential like Streep and Bates. She will build a career because based on her choices so far she has a strong team behind her and is staying out of the Hollywood rat race, you can play the game on your own terms if you make a decision about what you want to be. Do you want to be a star or do you want to be an actor? I know which I’d rather be and it seems to me Nikki Blonsky does too.
If you look at the opening post (yes there are words as well as pictures..shocking concept I know!) Nikki herself negates any hate in just six words, words that she’s proved true:

I think you hit the nail on the head here. Nikki is an ACTRESS vs wanting to be a celebrity. As Zac has said, there is a fine line there. He is TRYING hard to stay on the Acting side too. Obviously, she is as well. As good friends, I’m sure they talk about this all the time.
Nikki has a great breadth of talent, and she is passionate about what she does.
And, regarding her health. What business is that of ours? The girl danced for 8 hours a day for 2 1/2 months rehearsing for Hairspray. And Adam said she was blowing the professional dancers away! I say that takes some fitness and endurance!
Also, lots (LOTS) of thin people are not healthy. So you can’t judge someone’s health simply by their size.
I can’t wait to see more about about her upcoming Turtle Creek concert in Texas! Please give us news and pics, Jared! And, video too, please! That would be so awesome! Watching this girl sing LIVE is amazing!

And she and Zac talked about doing a duet on it. That would be amazing! Their voices sound so good together! (Without Love, You Can’t Stop the Beat). Although Zac is trying to stay away from doing an album, because it isn’t his passion and he wants to focus on acting, he might be up for one song with his BFF!
Also, I am excited not just to hear her voice (which is reason enough to get the album) but that she will be writing all of her songs! Nikki is a published poet, and write lyrics for songs all the time. She has said that she even writes lyrics for other people. Wow, what a talented girl!
Also, I’m excited for Elijah Kelley’s album to come out, too! The first song on his My Space sounds awesome!

Amazing post Irish! I couldn’t agree more. Nikki is incredibly talented and she has staying power. She’s one of the few actors/actresses that doesn’t have to rely on what she looks like, rather her ability. Nikki has kept busy ever since HS and I don’t see that changing. I will personally support her in anything she decides to do.
And all this crap about her weight is just BS…first of all she’s not even that big. People are overexagerating. Secondly, you can be plus sized and be healthy…but as I said I don’t feel half of the posts really have anything to do with her weight. Nikki is happy and proud of who she is and that is all that matters. She comfortable with her body.

There is too much good stuff to gush over about Nikki to be bothered with the losers who have nothing to critique her on except her size.
I know, I would love for her and Zac to do a duet! I would also love for them to do Broadway. Nikki said that they want to do it, but only if they can both do it together, and are waiting for their schedules to clear up. Obviously, watching her performances in Les Mis and Carmen, the girl is amazing on stage. Craig Meron has also said that Zac was made for the stage, so they would be just sensational together! They both have such astounding charisma and chemistry together.
I would also love for them to another movie together. I was thinking the other day that Nikki would be just great in the role of Rusty in Footloose. Rusty is fun, loves to dance, and is a loyal friend, so naturally Nikki would be perfect! I think it would also be a great role for her, where her size wouldn’t be thematically connected to the part. And then Zac and Nikki could spend a lot of time together again, since they were so close making Hairspray. We could see happy!Zac again, since he’s always happy when he’s around Nikki.
He did say, “There were a lot of big stars in this movie {Hairspray] but I had the most fun working with Nikki!” I want to see Zac having fun again! He’s seemed so down lately.

Nikki looks beautiful but her weight is unhealthy, just like it’s unhealthy to be anorexic it’s also unhealthy to be too overweight which she is. At least she feels happy in her skin though which I suppose is the main thing.
Nikki yes she may be “bigger” then most but she is so nice and down to earth. I hope she does have a cd that comes out!!!! She is a perfect role modle and people need to quite making fun of her. You all are just down right rude and wish you could have what she has. Nikki is a lovable person and should be treated just the same as any Hollywood person!!! I don’t know if it’s just me, but she isn’t fat. Like, fat is 300 pounds. Nikki probably weighs the average weight of women in America (160lbs) or just a little more. I think she’ is absolutely beautiful and there is nothing wrong with her. If I had the choice, I would look like her rather than Jessica Alba anyday.
