Nikki Blonsky and her younger brother, Joey, walk the green carpet at Movies Rock: A Celebration Of Music In Film held at the Kodak Theatre on Sunday in Hollywood.
Movies Rock will be broadcast this Friday, Dec. 7 @ 9PM ET/PT on CBS.
Nikki, 19, has laid out plays for a musical show she hopes to take on the road next year.
“I’m putting my own choral show together to do with the Turtle Creek Chorale in Dallas, Texas, on Dec. 16 at the Texas Philharmonic,” she says. “It’s the first time I’ve ever gotten the chance to put my own show together, and I hope it goes well. The theme of my show is ‘Anything can happen, follow your dreams.’ I’m just going to be singing a lot of fun songs that mean something to me and hopefully will mean something to my audience. Then, hopefully, by the time I’m ready to take the show on the road fully, I’ll have my album out and have worked in songs from the album.”

#95, #96, Your such a waste of space, this girl can go far and will if she wants to. She’s got more talent than half the cast of HSM I must say.
She is also beautiful and she doesn’t have obesity, if its her own health you are so concerned about that then find out if she is unhealthy for her size before making assumptions.
I think she carries herself better than any thin chic out there. People who have something negative to say just dont like anything about themselves and take cheap shots in order to make themselves feel better.

I always thought she had an amazing voice and I bet you she will write a lot of the songs on her album. I can’t wait to hear it. And another great thing is that you know she will actually sing live.
And oh yeah she is definitely going to be a failure alright…she had one of the biggest movies of the summer, legendary actors singing her praises, and since then she had been raking in the awards and has kept busy with project after project. *roll*

The hatred in this place makes me sick sometimes, this is a place to support her not call her and her family names! Do you know them? Are the only things some people here are good at is belittling people, do you have nothing better to do, are you that jealous? I seriously don’t get it, isn’t America supposed to be the melting pot? aren’t we supposed to be accepting? The world sucks to anyone who is different and it’s really sad.

She was cast out of thousands of girls for Hairspray, gave a brilliant performance in her first-ever movie that makes it seem like she’s been doing movies for years, and she’s one of the more genuine people in the industry today. But she won’t make it far? Give me a break. Nikki put herself on the map with Hairspray and I don’t see her leaving anytime soon.

Love this young gal and what she stands for in this world of bashers and haters. How do any of you know how much exercise she gets? Her dancing and performance in Hairspray took hours of practice and tons of exercise and she was super, energetic, and just plain awesome…..and yes plus sized even through all that intense training.
Give her a break. Nikki is pretty and a fantastic person. She put up with bullying all her life and she managed to rise above it all and find success.

She really is overweight (her brother more so). Can an overweight woman be beautiful? Yes. Does that mean she is healthy? Not at all. Is carrying all that extra weight good for your body? Never. So defend her all you want. When someone says she is fat - this is not attacking her talent nor her brains. It also does not mean that person is necessarily shallow.
In regards to another comment - although she is an adult and can do as she chooses. ‘Brilliant’ parents would teach there children to eat sensibly. I am sure they are loving - maybe a little to much in some areas though. Granted no ne here really knows them. All this is hardly insinuating that she and her brother need to be anorexic or skin and bones so don’t try and accuse me of wanting everyone to be fake, unhealthily skinny, and plastic. Sometimes the honest truth is that people are fat and it is not a good thing. If this makes you uncomfortable maybe you are in denial of reality.

Congratulations to Nikki Blonsky for a job well done in Hairspray. It was my favorite movie of the summer and she gained my respect and support for her performance and her perseverance . She overcame huge obstacles and found success in a place where only the thin and beautiful usually survive.
Nikki is a smart,beautiful, mature and extremely poised talent for her age. Those were just a few of the words John Travolta used to describe her…..I think he knows what he’s talking about.
#91 She is 4′10″ and at that weight definitely has a BMI of greater than 40. She is obese…not healthy. Don’t try the BMI doesn’t account for muscle mass either because she is clearly not a football linebacker. Although she dances and such - which is in her favor it won’t prolong health problems forever.
At least she IS ungodly talented and the media portrays her as a very nice girl.

Might I also add that her role in Hairspray could not have been played by a skinny girl due to the script. A skinny girl would have not found success in that role so it is not like she landed the role of a beach lifeguard and really triumphed all that much over stereotypes.

you can be healthy no matter what your size is! It all depends on eating nutritiously and exercising .
and people worship unhealthy (too skinny, smoking, alcohol/drug addicted) celebs all the time, so if Nikki was unhealthy, that would be no excuse to bash her
