Parents-to-be Nicole Richie and Joel Madden launch the Richie-Madden Children’s Foundation at the Los Angeles Free Clinic on Monday in Hollywood. The couple hosted a surprise baby shower for 100 expectant and new moms and handed out more than $200,000 worth of gifts. People has the scoopage:
Nicole on the reactions of the expectant moms: “The looks on their faces were priceless. Some of them didn’t even believe us [when they saw the gifts]. They thought we were joking. Everything (Baby Bjorn products, cribs, mattresses and toys from Fisher-Price) they got, we got, so everything that will be in their nursery, will be in our nursery.”
Joel on why they started the foundation: “We grew up in Los Angeles and we want our child to be a part of the community, and to know that there’s a responsibility to help the community.”
Nicole on how they came up with the name of the foundation: “We named it the Richie Madden Children’s Foundation because we each have families and our families are close, and our family is involved.”
Joel on how fortunate he and Nicole have such loving families: “We’re lucky that we have families that get along and love each other [and] I think it’s great that our child will grow up as a part of that family.”
Joel on how good he felt after the event: “Sometimes people don’t want to believe that me and Nicole are just a young couple having a baby and we’re really excited. We don’t really get to share our lives with people. It’s nice to connect with people on a real level.”

Yeah, Joel did grow up in Waldorf, but after the band, he moved to Cali?? I don’t know. I think he’s been living there a couple years, and Nicole grew up there, so that may have been his point.
But it’s so great of them to start the charity. I’m glad that they’re doing stuff to help those in need.
And they look great together.

I’m not against any good deeds they want to do for their community, but talking of loving families, LIONEL RICHIE was never around for Nicole all the time she was going up??? Their PR should have them rehearsed a different speech

Nicole looks great and I am so impressed, she really got her act together and is doing a wonderful thing for others. It seems that preparing for this baby really changed her perspective on the world. All the power to them!

Nic is a good person,despite being given away at the age of 3 to her parents employer’s. And not feeling worthy or thin enough, with Paris’ crowd of rich, classless friends,who bullied her, cause she was what they consider ‘fat’ not from ‘old money’,, ect,,& despite her not feeling worthy, because of all that and so much more. I read her book. She is growing. I’m very pleased to see her moving 4ward, giving back & trying to do the best she can, 1 day at a time.:smile:
Nic looks fabulous. I’ve never cared for her and was horrified when I heard she was pregnant, but it seems like she’s taking her health and life seriously. Hope she keeps a healthy weight and lifestyle post baby.
NR I have liked from the get go. Thought, knew, she had potential. She’s funny an fun as oh he11. Is a classic pianoist(sp),like myself. Never cared for PH she is scum, in plenty of ways. Sounds as if a lot of moms to be - pregnant still moms, were pleasantly surprise. NR you proved me right and xoxox to you an JM.
