Hayden Panettiere: Japan is a Joke!

SAVE THE CHEERLEADER WHALES, SAVE THE WORLD!

Actress and environmentalist Hayden Panettiere recently received a letter from the Japanese Government Fisheries Agency. Below is their letter and Hayden’s response is below that:

————————

While respecting Ms. Panettierre’s personal feelings towards dolphins and her commitment to travel to Taiji to make her protest, I hope that your viewers will be reassured by the fact that Japan is carefully managing marine living resources for the future. The government’s fisheries policies are based on scientific information and take into account the opinions of the public.

Sincerely,

Takumi Fukuda
Fisheries Attache, Embassy of Japan
Washington, DC

————————

Dear Mr. Fukuda,

Rest assured our viewers and the public at large is appalled by Japanese whaling and fisheries practices. Even within your own country, recent polls show that over 77% of the Japanese public is against whaling while only 11% support it.

To say that Japan is carefully managing marine living resources for the future is a joke. Recent scientific studies have shown that over 90% of the world’s large fish have been depleted by over-fishing and Japan’s own factory-fishing fleets are largely responsible for this, decimating one species after another. Just recently, Japan was found to be in violation of its quota on endangered blue fin tuna. I cannot find one example where Japan has carefully managed any marine species.

In regards to dolphins and whales, Japan’s blatant disregard for these species is unfathomable. Japan is cruelly and needlessly butchering over 20,000 dolphins and other small cetaceans every year. There is no humane way to kill a dolphin or whale and scientific research shows that dolphin and whale meat is unhealthy for human consumption. Your own Government studies show dolphin and whale meat can contain up to 10-16 times the healthful level of mercury and that elevated levels of mercury have been proven to cause birth defects, neural damage, and death. As a result, several Japanese supermarket chains have pulled dolphin and whale meat from their shelves due to the health risks. Despite this however, your fisheries agency continues to advocate for the needless killing of dolphins and whales.

In addition, your whaling fleet is now planning to kill over 1,000 whales in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary including endangered fin and humpback whales. There is nothing scientific about this slaughter. All the data being collected can be and is being collected through non-lethal means by bona-fide scientists, not bogus scientists like yours.

Recently, a representative for Japan’s fisheries agency said:

“Whales are just as important, and no more special, than any other fish,” says Japan Fisheries Agency spokesperson Hideki Moronuki, maintaining Japan’s long-held position that marine mammals should get no special treatment for being warm-blooded.

Your scientists can’t even tell the difference between a marine mammal and a fish. Do you realize how ignorant Japan looks to the rest of the world? Please be advised that we are telling all consumers to not purchase any Japanese made products until Japan stops killing dolphins and whales and we will be vigilant in this regard. We are determined to end Japan’s brutally cruel and needless slaughter of dolphins and whales and I will do everything within my power to ensure this.

Sincerely,

Hayden Panettiere
Spokesperson

i love her for doing this alone. fair play to her for not just standing back and letting this happen. sickos how could they do that knowing that they are endangered and how could you ever do that after watching flipper and free willy :(

good for her. i don’t care whether she wrote that letter herself or not. she attached her name to a worthy cause, not just for lip service.

“Save the Whale” Save the Cheerleader’s show…

JAPAN SURRENDERED ONCE FOR WORLD PEACE. THEY ARE NOT GOING TO STEP BACK FOR A STUPID TEEN AGER WHO BELIEVES SHE CAN SAVE THE WORLD! AND IF SHE WROTE THAT LETTER, I HAVE A MIGHTY NICE BRIDGE IN SAN FRANCISCO TO SELL THE FIRST BIDDER!!!

This is pretty ridiculous. Who the **** does she thinks she talks to? It’s not by insulting Japan and the japan scientists than it is going to make things change. It’s the zero degree of diplomacy. I agree with another comment, she sounds like a brat unable to use the soft way to defend her cause.
But after all, she’s only 20, and it shows.
But still, I’m embarrased for her.

Actually she’s only 18, born in 89.

If the scientist truly believe that the meat from Dolphins is safe to eat, then they are kinda stupid. The mercury alone is enough proof.

And diplomacy ******* blows. Politics never solve anything. I support her and respect her for not sinking that boat. They went on a peacful protest and were met with violence. So that already shows they (Whale and Dolphin slayers) aren’t going to take, “Please stop, don’t do it.” tones. Sometimes you have to fight fire with fire.

#154: What the hell are you talking about?

(If WW2 related)
Japan didn’t surrender for world peace, they surendered because they knew they couldn’t compare to the power of the atom bomb, if they kept fighting they would have all been killed.

Plus, she isn’t trying to save the world, just an endangered creature, who’s life is probably more worthy than most people these days.

Personally I support her cause itself.
Dolphins are endangered species and even dangerous to eat according to data.
(Although I wonder how many Japanese actually eat dolphins and whales.
I’ve never had them before and I’m sure most of my friends neither.)
I also think some culture must change for better tomorrow.

However I can’t approve the way she’s protesting.
Does she have to be so mean and hostile?
She must understand those who catching dolphines are not savages or terrorists; they have their lives and that’s the way they have been made living for centuries. As someone mentioned above, The island she made that protest is isolated and that’s the only way for local folks to make living.
If she doesn’t respec people, she won’t be able to win their understanding; I don’t believe this letter nor that boycot act helps her cause.
As a matter of fact, some people even reject this idea itself just from antipathy against her.

lol sorry for so many grammatical mistakes and spelling…
(It’s early morning and I’m still sleepy.)
I hope you get what I meant.

I can’t believe she’s doing this! She has no right to yell at a culture or any group which she has no idea about. Is this what she thinks of Asian cultures? That they’re heartless, ignorant, selfish people? It’s awful. If she works so hard to save some mammals, why can’t she just be a veggie or something? What, whales are more important than cows and pigs? It’s because they look cute, right? She should just respect their tradition and find another way to save the world. I’m not saying she can’t do it or her heart isn’t at the right place, but she doesn’t realize how much she’s hurting and insulting everyone. Hayden, find a nicer way to help.
