Denzel Washington, Oprah Winfrey, Wesley Snipes, Jennifer Hudson and Samuel L. Jackson arrive at the MGM premiere of The Great Debaters held at the Arclight Cinerama Dome on Tuesday in Los Angeles, Calif.
The drama is based on the true story of Melvin B. Tolson, a professor at Wiley College in Texas. In 1935, he inspired students to form the school’s first debate team, which went on to challenge Harvard in the national championship.

Is it me or does Oprah always support black actors only at the oscars?
I saw a preview of this movie and it looks excellent….
@Helena … Oprah can support whom ever she wants, she has supported many thespians of colour and non but really when you think about it, the community is soooo small in Hollywood and why wouldn’t she…… She in the middle of supporting Obama Birak (excuse my atroshis spelling errors) and good for her, she’ supporting a community she can relate too an beleives in….
besides in the next 50 years or soooo the white folk of this world will be considered the minority…..not enough people having babies….just facts thats all….so in the end shes doing something right by supporting what she beleives in…. and why do you care anyways Helena millions of people view her on the tele everyday shes the Queen of the U.S.A…LOL
I admired Oprah for many years however she has truly changed and not because of who or what she supports. She appears quite full of herself now. I watched Ms. Winfrey for 20 years but had to finally stop as I (notice “I” as in my opinion) feel that she believes her own press. Also, Nummy, your Queen of the USA supports Barak Obama, not Obama Birak. I can forgive your “atroshis” spelling but not your “atroshis facts”.
I love Oprah and have watched her for years, but I agree with peggy, in part. She has seemed to change over the last 5 or so years. Maybe it is that she is believing her press. I read in a gossip column (so take it with a grain of salt) that she refuses to even speak to some of her guests during commercial breaks. Unless of course they are her ‘in crowd’ friends. A former guest (who was said to be very famous) spoke anonymously and said it was the most bizarre thing. She would just sit there and not even make eye contact during the breaks. I don’t know if it is true, but she does seem different now. Can’t quite put my finger on it.

Helena, I was going to say the EXACT same thing. Looks like her support for Barack backfired on him (polls say that Democrats are LESS likely to vote for Obama now that Oprah did that promo tour with him), and she’s back to whoring for Hollywood.

Peggy….I must apologize for not not knowing his true name, I have no excuse really…..I will agree with you that Oprah has become full of herself and not just recent if you have been watching for 20 years than you would recall episodes of which are over 10 years ago (before she found her spirituality) how extreemely rude she was to her guests and cut them off mid sentence before they could finish there sentence…….some might say she has a GOD complex, and watev she is who she is….people still love her and she has relaxed in her old age, I’ll give her that….
and Peggy if you think my facts are off (minority wise ?) the studies are out there….most young white urbanites an non urbanites are choosing their careers, are choosing to marry later and most who decide to breed choose to only have one child,so therfore in 50 years or so the white folk will become the minority (have some babies people)….and lets say (for some S h its and giggles) even though a country like China has a rule for each couple to procreate one offspring they will be s h it out luck tooo in 50 years not enough procreation in China for them to survive with how they are surviving…..and lets just say for some more S H its and giggles your probably thinking (probaly not) well the world going to balance itself out with the A I D S epidemic and the stress epidemic amonst other things on this planet people wil die off bla bla bla bla in the end…………

How does Denzel manage to look good, even if he prefers not to dress for the occasion?
I’m going to watch this despite Oprah’s involvement, I used to like her but to me it appears since she’s accomplished so much, she’s lost touch with the real life.
Oprah supported Leonard Decaprio for the Aviator. She’s also supported Hilary Swank for Million Dollar Baby. She supports whomever she wants. I just think it hits home more for her when she supports someone who is black, afterall she is black.
I was surprised though when she decided to back Obama because as a journalist your suppose to stay neutral and she always seemed to do that in the past, but I guess she felt she would use her celebrity to get people in the black community to vote. But I could be wrong I dont know what’s going on, I’m not american.
But wait didn’t tones of celebs back John Kerry for the last presidential race, especially white celebs? What would make Oprah different in this case?

If it is true that Oprah won’t even make eye contact with her guests during commercial breaks and just ignores them…then that shows the height of her arrogance and rudeness. But she is a very, very smart woman, so I think she would not be so stupid as to ignore her guests in front of all those people in the audience, because all eyes are still on her during the breaks. Changing her demeanor so blatantly could not possibly be good for her image and integrity in front of all those people.
