the truth about sam @ 12/16/2007 at 5:20 am

Where is your mommy?

Sam is in the movie industry, and will do what it takes to stay in the limelight for as long as she can because when the light is removed, she will no longer have much of a career left. Ask yourself why she began her Harpers interview with the words:

“I’m ba-ack.”

Back where?? Into the limelight.

the truth about sam @ 12/16/2007 at 5:24 am

Sam gets so much tabloid press (and still the occasional “dueling-eyeline” cover with Angelina) that it’s easy to forget that the girl hasn’t had a movie out all year. Perhaps she’s just too busy drinking electrolyte-enhanced water. She not only stars in the SmartWater campaign, shot by Mario Testino, she also invested in the company and had a limited-edition SmartWater label this past summer.

CRITICAL COMMENTS
“We simply cannot put our finger on it, but we haven’t thought of Sam [sic] as attractive or sexy since back in the Friends days, when it seemed nothing she wore could cover her permanently erect nipples.”
—Steve Hall, AdRants, on Aniston’s work in the Smart Water campaign

“Occasionally, a comic spark will issue from one of the stars, who fall back on the tried-and-true sources of their appeal. Ms. Aniston will punctuate a scene with a self-approving tilt of her head and a twitch of her adorable nose.”
—A.O. Scott, The New York Times, on Aniston in The Break-Up

FINAL JUDGEMENT
Girl, even when shot by a fancy photog, cheesy ads for bottled water are no way to one-up the Brangelina clan. It’s time to use your “permanently erect nipples” and “tried-and-true appeal” for something besides hawking yoga water.

i’m shining the truth on this fraud known as brad pitt, just like jen will when she writes her autobiography.

MRS PITTY —-

the truth about sam @ 12/16/2007 at 5:28 am

The problem with SAM is because of the image she is trying to potrays out to the public she will never admit being dumped. Nor take the courage to admit that she’s at fault in a relationship be it real or reel. Seemed like playing the victim for the past 3 years now is just her way to stay in people’s sympathy card. Eventually truth will prevail & this pathetic show-off will be revealed for all to see.

the truth about sam @ 12/16/2007 at 5:31 am

SAM at 37 wanted to pursue an A-list movie career. I believed that the marriage start to deteriorate after it’s 3rd year, and slowly broke down even before Pitt met that “other woman with the famous lips. SAM opted for the A-list. I dont blame her one bit for that. Many women have to choose between a career and family/motherhood. That seems unfair. Unfortunately, A-list dream was not meant to be. Some say that her short stance as an A-list was just an illusion, simply because, she was married to the sexiest and most sought for actor these days. In other words, she got swept by his coattail. That could be true. I say that because her movies stank after the divorce, and her acting was just so pathetic. Without Brad, she was just another Jen.

the truth about sam @ 12/16/2007 at 5:31 am

The “other woman with beautiful lips” - was the recipient of SAM’s anger and bitterness. The divorce and busted A-list made SAM so bitter. Her confidence was all gone. What is life without the most gorgeous and sexiest man in the world. Where is Brad ? - in the arms of the “other woman with beautiful lips”. I heard she can act too, named as the sexiest woman twice, and an A-Lister as well. SAM will never admit any fault, nor will admit her role in the break up of her marriage. That “other woman with beautiful lips” - it’s all her fault. And here is the most bitter part - Brad’s dream has finally been realized - the “other sexiest woman, with 4 children - a family !

the truth about sam @ 12/16/2007 at 5:33 am

And who is the other woman with the most beautiful lips ? - She is also the world most recognized humanitarian, a member of the world most elite club - Foreign Relation. She stand besides kings, queens, presidents and world renown leaders. Grant of honorary citizens of many countries because of her humanitarian work in Durfur, Sara Leone, Pakistan, Afhganistan, Iraq, Sudan, and Latin America to mention a few. Of late, she is a contributor/journalist of the Economist - her piece about Durfur and the International Criminal Court was a very intelligent summation of the conditions of war refugees. And oh yea - she can fly a plane too !
.
In contrast, SAM will never be in any place like Durfur etc. SAM is a scorned woman. And, nothing more dangerous than a scorn woman.

I can’t wait to see Changeling. I am sure Angie will be again superb in this movie and will be the Oscar’s no. 1 contender. C. Eastwwood chose her for the role because he knew that she could portray it perfectly.

It’s Sunday evening here. Good nite BAMPZSville!!!

the truth about sam @ 12/16/2007 at 5:44 am

Well, SAM is pushing 40, may be she’s too old for a Bond girl role. Although lately, she has been acting 16, crying out to Courtney Cox that she’s too miserable being alone.
.
Bond girl is bold and beautiful, not boring, and with great self confidence. Men do not abandon Bond girl. She trashes them ! Sorry to say, SAM is neither. Her acting range is limited to that Rachel Green persona. Her biggest mistake was “self pity, poor me” interviews in the tabloid , and the public rejected that. Queen of Tabloid - that was her distinction.
.
Her movie projects where she was the lead cast bombed miserably. Bond franchise will likely go for one with national and international appeal. She does not.
.
But here’s the worst part - her biological clock is ticking. She promised she’ll have babies 2 years after her divorce. If she fails motherhood - well…..
.
She can always sell bottled water.

sunbathing topless and suing anyone who take pictures
exposing her moonie in a bikini
tanning
waxing her bikini line
wearing blue contact lense
yoga
taking care of her dogs
faking a relationship and using it for publicity

He kisses her goodbye and smiles from the rear window of his taxi. A few hours later, he calls to let her know he’ll be home late, probably around nine o’clock. This is the last time Daniel Pearl will speak to his wife, Mariane.

The way Michael Winterbottom recreates Mariane Pearl’s harrowing experience during her husband’s kidnapping and eventual murder makes it seem like a camera crew was on location during the actual ordeal. Winterbottom’s signature methods–handheld camera; jump cut editing; natural lighting; improvisational acting; monochromatic tones–work impeccably to place viewers in the midst of an impending trajedy that’s so horrible and unsettling that I wasn’t sure my heart (and stomach) could take it. But Mariane’s did, and even though the title of her memoir, A Mighty Heart, on which this film is based, refers to her husband, it could easily refer to her.

After the September 11 terrorist attacks, American journalists flooded Afghanistan to report on the “War on Terror.” Among them was Daniel Pearl (Dan Futterman) and his wife, Mariane (Angelina Jolie). Danny, as he was often referred, was the South Asia Bureau Chief for the Wall Street Journal and Mariane worked for the French public radio.

The day after 9/11, the couple flew to Karachi, Pakistan. On January 23, the day before they were scheduled to leave for Dubai, and just two days after they learned their unborn child was a boy, Danny made arrangements for a last-minute interview with Sheikh Gilani, who was suspected of having ties to Richard Reid, the shoe bomber arrested a month earlier on a flight to Miami.

Even after speaking with members of the U.S. Consulate and Citizen Police Laison Committee about meeting Gilani in public as a safety precaution, Danny voluntarily leaves a restaurant with men who say they know where Gilani is. These same men become Danny’s abductors and call themselves the National Movement for the Restoration of Pakistani Sovereignty. They claim Pearl works for the CIA, then Mossad, and draw up a list of demands for the U.S. Government, including better treatment of Pakistani prisoners in Guantanomo Bay, Cuba. Pakistani investigators later announce Pearl’s interview with Gilani was a setup to lure him in and Gilani was bait.

All this is told from the perspective of those looking for answers–Mariane; Danny’s friends and colleague’s from the Journal; and the Pakistani law enforcement and CIA. John Orloff’s screenplay extends no further than the book and the film contains no gimmicks, tricks or superfluous re-enactments of Daniel’s treatment. It simply and powerfully recreates what it knows from the point of view of those who lived it.

Some feel compelled to ask, why? Why recreate something like this story on film if it’s already available in written form, not to mention that we’ve seen and heard Pearl’s story countless times on the news. Because film opens up a broader outlet and it’s a medium many find more receptive. Given the seriousness and factuality of this material, and the way Winterbottom presents it, viewers are likely to learn a lot from this picture.

The film is methodical and constructed with one tense, unrelenting scene after another. Even though we know what’s going to eventually come of Pearl’s situation, the film is every bit as gripping as the best Hollywood thrillers, but more hard-hitting because it actually happened. We’re witnesses to Mariane’s unthinkable agony, the determination of the authorities and the endurance of Danny’s family, friends and colleagues. The film’s tone is raw and realistic, filled with overlapping dialogue, ringing cell phones and the characters’ maddening uncertainty.

Like Paul Greengrass’ captivating and gutwrenching “United 93,” about the fourth hijacked plane on 9/11, “A Mighty Heart” feels completely within the moment of the events taking place. Winterbottom, after making a list of politically-charged documentaries segues seamlessly into dramatic storytelling (he also made the well-received “24 Hour Party People”) and shows great restraint and an astute sense of timing. “A Mighty Heart” feels purposefully disjointed and natural, uninhibited by typical Hollywood sensationalism. It’s extremely minimalistic and succinct. Even the credits flash on-screen so soon as a way to set the pace. The events transpire according to the recollections of the real Mariane Pearl, who served as a consultant on the film.

Some critics have voiced that Angelina Jolie was the wrong actress chosen to play Mariane, that she couldn’t get it right because she and Mariane don’t share the same nationality (Jolie has dyed her hair and been given contact lenses to help transform her). Even so, is it not the job of an actress to act like somebody else? I’m not at all interested in having Jolie look the role so much as embody the role.

The strength of Jolie’s performance lies in her ability to make us feel Mariane’s fear, anxiety, anger, frustration and pain. The subtle expression of worry on her face when Daniel doesn’t answer his phone and the tears she fights back suggest Jolie truly feels Mariane in her heart.

The rest of cast is equally effective and focused, including Archie Panjabi as Danny’s colleague, Asra Nomani; Will Patton as security agent Randall Bennett; and Irfaan Khan as an ATS chief known only as Captain. Futterman, who I’ve learned is the Oscar-nominated screenwriter for “Capote,” eerily looks like the real Daniel Pearl. His spot-on resemblance makes the film more scary and striking.

As with “United 93,” some may wonder if its exploitative to make films like “A Mighty Heart,” which uses a real-life tragedy as the basis for “entertainment.” But “entertainment” in this case comes not only in the form of emotion and sympathy for the main characters, but more importantly from learning about relevant events that inhabit our collective consciousness. Stories like this should be known because they educate us on things we don’t know but that affect the world we live in. Even if it wasn’t based on a true story, I would highly recommend and admire “A Mighty Heart” for its unflinching take on an area and culture few living outside the periphery know (or care to know) about.

I learned a lot while watching this film and it encouraged me to learn more. The real Mariane said that she thought her and Danny’s roles as journalists were to create dialogue, and that’s exactly “A Mighty Heart” does. It’s a film about a sad, shocking and dreadful incident that gives viewers a glimpse into another world and other hearts. After seeing it, I’m more empathetic and aware of what brave people sometimes face and bear, even when trying to do a good thing. “A Mighty Heart” is solemn, devastating and unforgettable.
