She did so great! I’m so proud of Vanessa, not only did she sing well, she looked beautiful in all her outfits too. And I loved that she helped Andrea Bocelli who is blind, to the center of the stage and helped him back. She’s a great girl all around. Imma proud fan :)

WAIT A MINUTE!! I just checked Wikipedia and it indicated that Vanessa is only 19 years old!!!
How can she be living alone? And how can she be engaged in a sexual relationship with Drake Bell or Zac Efron or any other guy?

Let’s embrace the holiday spirit people. She sang for a charity event, let’s focus on the positive. If you don’t like her as a singer, fine, there are plenty of singers who aren’t my cup of tea either but don’t resort to language or uninformed insults to get your point across.

What I ABSOLUTELY LOVE about the fact that McPhee and Vanessa Hudgens performed at the same event is that we can contrast them: McPhee has a beautiful, strong voice and Vanessa, as many people have already commented, was just terrible and can’t really sing….Vanessa must have been CRAZY to appear at the same event as McPhee!!!
It also shows how the HSM is totally fake because Hudgens sounded alright in HSM but terrible here.
And I was also shocked by how short she is. Eck.

Ah the haters are back. So full of hate, ignorance and stupidity. I think it’s just the same person over and over again, posting under different names. I pity their poor soul(s).
Vanessa was really good. She’s improved a lot since HSM 1. Of course she still has some work to do, because nobody’s perfect, but when you consider the fact that it was live, you have no choice but to give her her props.
The fact that she was even invited to sing next to big time artists like Ne-Yo and Katharine McPhee is a big accomplishment on it’s own, but she was even able to hold her own, and she sounded very impressive.
Her music career will be bright, and all those haters will be eating their words, just wait. It’s only the beginning for Vanessa. I was very proud of her performance.

I think all the little haters were kind of just sitting around waiting for a new post on Vanessa just so they could bash for no reason. Don’t try to fight them, just keep them in your prayers. Anybody with a good sense of music would know that Vanessa did a great job. She may not be the best, but with a little work she could be up there.

People get pregnant, when they’re only fourteen years old. They get hooked on drugs, they kill people. And you think taking “filthy” private pictures of yourself is BAD. #103 That is by far the dumbest thing I have ever heard, there was nothing provocative or the least bit inappropriate about her dance. Katherine McPhee was swivieling her hips as well. GASP! And the dance Neo-yo did at the end of his rendition of “Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer” was utterly appalling. It’s okay. There were some shaky parts and I can understand her being nervous. But I do believe that she did good. Much better than I expected. And you’re right, there were some concert videos I saw where I think she did much better singing live. But if she keeps doing this, she’ll just improve more.

I like Vanessa…but she wasn’t that great. I thought her voice could have sounded better. There were some parts that sounded a lil flat. She wasn’t bad….but she wasn’t good either.

chris, you obviously have no clue about the world of teenagers. You’re talking about 1 picture that was realeased by someone vile. You have no idea what they do to each other these days if they’re jealous. We can thank reality TV for that kind of trash. I work with teens…..trust me, a pic is not uncommon these days. Plus, that is such old news…..why do you feel the need to keep rehashing it when she’s trying to put herself back together after all that? This was a nice affair for her to perform at, and I think she did beautifully. I guess you believe everyone who makes a mistake should crawl under a rock and forget about living .
And all of you comparing voices, you’re ridiculous. They all have very different singing styles and voices. NeYo did well for him, Katherine did fine for her, and Vanessa did great for her. No comparisons should be made.

like I said…Kat did wonderful too. It’s just that she ruined it in the end. She sounded really flat. but hey…you’re comparing Kat who’s geared as a singer, versus Van who’s really just starting and is branching out in different areas. But yeah, hopefully…Vanessa will have more confidence and more experience like Kat has and become a solid singer and performer.

Those posting who think Katharine sounded better than Vanessa need to listen a little closer. Runs do not make one sound so great. Simon hates when people do all those runs in a song. Most of the time people who use a lot of runs do so because they can not maintain the correct pitch. Vanessa didn’t do a lot of runs. She also had larger ear pieces in so I wonder if the runs were throwing her off in practice.

Everyone has different types of voices and singing styles so try not to compare them. Also Vanessa’s Album did not flop it sold Gold on only Disney promo and she has sold the most out of all the HSM casts solo Albums.

Things I found funny: (1) The GROUP singing was horrible, horrible!; (2) Katherine sang Donny Hathaway’s version “This X-Mas”, Bing Crosby’s version wasn’t available? (lol); and (3) Vanessa is TOO SEXUAL - she tries to come off as cute, but it comes off as SEXUAL - not a good look - NO WONDER SHE TOOK NAKED PICS FOR A NOBODY AT SUCH A YOUNG AGE - LMAO! Overall, Ne-Yo could’ve done the show alone or with Mrs. Bush for what I just watched.

The Internet “scandal” over pictures of Vanessa Hudgens was overblown and an invasion of her privacy, says actress Olesya Rulin, Hudgens’ co-star in the High School Musical series.
“I think what gets confused in the media is that everyone is as personal as the day, and we are not our characters, and we are older than we portray.”
The 21-year-old Rulin plays Kelsi Nielsen in the musicals. In interviews for this week’s DVD debut of High School Musical 2: Extended Edition — which includes behind-the-scenes looks at the co-stars in rehearsals — Rulin says there is a problem in having the public pay too much attention to the private lives of performers.
“I think there is a lot of danger in that. I learned that first-hand. I went to the zoo and some of my personal pictures got on to the Internet.”
Without mentioning Hudgens by name, Rulin says the scandal was no different: “At the end of the day, everyone makes mistakes and everyone makes discoveries and everyone has skeletons in their closet. Normal people, though, just have the privilege to keep it to themselves.
“And everyone 17 is crazy and everyone has the right. If you take that right away from someone, then that is a cardinal sin. You are meant to experiment. You are meant to bump into corners. And that’s how you learn.”

Excuse me, but this was NOT live! It was filmed on December 9th, 2007. Vanessa was already back in California when this aired. Plus, Vanessa sucked at singing. She was off-key. She always is. If you’ve ever seen her live, she sounds WAY! different then what she does on her CD. Meaning, her voice was mixed. I’m friends with her younger sister, Stella. I was in the recording studio with Vanessa at one point. She sounds different when she’s recording and then when the final CD comes out.
Zac and Vanessa aren’t living together and Vanessa still lives with her parents. I don’t know if Zac and Vanesa have ever gotten sexual. But personally, I don’t know want to know about that. I don’t see Zac doing that until he’s married. Zac was raised with good morals. I’ve talked to his mother and brother, and they’ve said the same things.
As for Vanessa’s n*de pictures, I can’t believe she did that! I’ve even told this to Vanessa’s face, she’s a *****. I’m sorry, I don’t meant to offend any Baby V fans out there, but Vanessa agreed with me somewhat. She said that she was naive and made a mistake taking the pictures. She should have used her mind a tad bit more. Looks like our Baby V is no longer a baby.

Vanessa needs to continue taking voice lessons to improve her singing. Katherine was fine, just not great, Ne-yo was the only one that carried a tune in that performance, along with the choir.

Vanessa Hudgens CANNOT SING FOR ****!! I say this not out of hate, but sincerely b/c I am not tone deaf like the rest of y’all. Her attempt to add vibrato to her voice comes out as a half-ass warble, and don’t let me start on all the notes she never hit. Live means the person is singing- not singing to a recorded version. The tapping of the show has nothing to do with it. Anyone who sings live sings/sounds different than what is recorded in a studio. Go to any concert and you will hear differences between the “radio” version and the version you see live.

I think V just did fine. I think that if Randy/Paula/simon will comment on her performance, this is what they will say - she took the classic christmas songs and made it her own version - that makes a performer different. Also, I think her big smiles and her flirtatious look at the camera captured a lot of hearts.
I am having voice lessons myself and my voice coach said not to sound like the original performer of the song. Interpret the song using your own voice. V just did that.

I just work real hard at what I do, and there are so many other amazing singers out there that would’ve rocked her spot and truly deserve that kind of recognition. When I watched her perform, I was just so shocked at how bad she was in my opinion. I expected much better for all the hype that’s goin on around her. But my apologies for coming off rude… I do understand that she does have a solid fan base, and that is to be applauded. Aw, I’m feeling kind of bad for you right now. It’s obvious your music career hasn’t taken off and you’re directing your frustration towards Vanessa. You think you deserve to be in her place right now, don’t you? Very cute.
I’ll be generous and give you some advice, free of charge: In life, and you will learn this very quickly, there will ALWAYS be someone who’s better at something than you. The best thing to do is accept this and try harder. Bringing down those who are better than you is not going to make them any less better than you. It will only make you look like a jealous little fool.
In other words, life ain’t fair, kid. Get over it.
One more thing, arealsinger, this was a children’s charity event, and Vanessa happens to be popular with kids and their parents. I think it was an appropriate choice for her to be invited to perform. This wasn’t about the best singers out there; it was about who the kids might want to see. I feel your passion, but singing is just one thing Vanessa does, and is still growing at it. Give her a little credit for doing a good job with the talent that was around her.

hey, if you’re a singer and you’re striving to become known. Bashing on V and assuming things isn’t the best way to go. Just work hard, stay true to yourself and don’t give up. Van didn’t, even when it looks like people was going to turn their back on her because of the pic. She moved on and she held her head up high.

well, at least you apologized. I for one don’t mind constructive criticism for Van because she IS young and still new in the music business, and for her to get better, she needs that. But full on bashing is just bleh, and worthless. Van can’t improve with that, and not worth reading. Honestly, when you started bashing on her…I didn’t really read it. It wasn’t worth it. I just knew that you were someone who could sing and was frustrated with her self and to make herself better, chosed to bash on Van instead.
Anyways…like I said before. Just don’t give up, and to always remember that karma is real. If you want people to treat you in a good way, then…change yourself and become better. Work hard and try and try again until you succeed.

Vanessa was great!!!!! She was the best out of them all. You could hear Vanessa’s voice over Ne-Yo’s and Katharine McPhee’s voice. She has a good strong voice that sounds beautiful. Vanessa’s the best!

well, for me. She did good. She definitely needs more training to control her voice and more experience singing infront of a crowd. Once she has that down, she’d be Amazing. I won’t argue with people who think she did AMAZING, because she did, although I know she can do better.

For all of you hating on V and saying that Kat and Ne Yo did a good job must not have watched the show. Heather was the best out of all of them! I think V did a great job and looked like she was actually having fun on stage. And I totally agree with #251, V did outlast Kat in the end of the song.

I understand that many of you are fans of Vanessa, but please try to be objective sometimes. At the very least it would be fair to say that they were all decent. But it is not fair to say that Vanessa was the best.

I see people are still at comparing voices. It’s pretty unfair to do that. All those singers have different vocal styles. I would not expect them to sound alike. Katherine DID NOT have a strong performance, compared to other times I’ve seen her. It was just OK. In comparison, Vanessa did very well, and exceeded expectations for me. I’m NOT saying she has a better voice than Katherine. But that night, I think Vanessa did a good job for someone not used to performing for that kind of an audience with that kind of music. I expected more from Katherine with all her Idol experience. But she just played it safe. It wasn’t anything special.
On the other hand, I felt bad for Colbie C. She seemed REALLY nervous, and I didn’t think her vocals were strong enough for that kind of an appearance. She was totally out of her element. But I do think she has a pleasant enough voice, so maybe with more seasoning, she’ll do ok.
One more thing……….I think Vanessa was holding the microphone with both hands to steady the mic and her hands!

About her singing: she’s not a powerhouse singer like the Divas: Mariah, Aretha, Celine, etc. But she does appeal to people from all walks of life. Who cares how she hold a mike, or even if she can shatter a crystal glass? She is an entertainer, and entertaining is what she does best. She has said so as much; she loves performing. And when you love what you do the charisma is undeniable. She has that, the Charisma.

Ehh no. I’m not a great fan of Zac, I think he’s okay and a good preformer but nothing else. So you can’t use the old ‘jealous’ excuse on me. I just don’t think Vanessa is that talented and I found her preformance weak in my opinion.
She literally blew me away. I was so impressed and so did the president. I think she is the best singer out of the HSM cast by far.
