‘Australia’ Movie Stills — FIRST PICTURE
With Australia, starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman, writer-director Baz Lurhmann is painting on a vast canvas creating a cinematic experience that brings together romance, drama, adventure and spectacle.
Anyone else have the Baz trilogy on DVD? Moulin Rouge! Romeo + Juliet! Strictly Ballroom! Cannot wait to add Australia to the set!
SOOOOOOOO EXCITING!!!!!!

I haven’t seen “Simply Ballroom,” I didn’t like “William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet” very much (talented as they are Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes just are NOT Shakesperiean actors). “Moulan Rouge” is a film I appreciate more every time I see it. So Baz Luhrman is 1-1 with me, so I’ll hold off on getting too enthusasitic until I see previews and hear the buzz. But I give the man credit for his ambition and Nicole and Hugh look very nice in that picture.
@ matt i agree, i’m aussie too and people are always thinking we’re like the croc hunter. seriously, whats this stupid rumour that we have kangaross as pets and take them on the bus. I’m sure the movie about Aus will be great but too much outback like ‘outback jack’ aint priceless.
I hear you Alex, Its really frustrating. haha
Very comforting that every nation has its problems with the way foreigners believe they are. ( Big grin) : I promise I will never again look at an Australian and think: “How many crocodiles may he have hunted today and did he feed his pet-kangaroo and where is his horse parked….” ( very big grin ) ”
Although I have to admit that the thought of a nice Australian guy, fresh from the wildernes is very appealing ( very big dirty grin ).
OMG Nicole looks so gorgeous in this photo. Classically beautiful in this particular shot.

Moulin Rouge will always be my favourite film, whether it has Nicole in or not.
Can’t wait for this film.
O0000H 36 you sound like a kidman publicity person if this movie does not flop it will be because of Hugh Jackman not nicole kidman
Although Hugh seems as ***** as a cat ****, it’s true, oddly,he’s one of the only A or B list celebs who might seem to pair with her well enough to pull out any nuance of sensuality at all. I know it’ s been played, but Russell Crowe anyone ?
hugh jack….clint eastwood?
@ Nora with the very big dirty grin: And I know e x a c t l y what nice (and incredibly sexy!) Australian guy you’re talking about!
I’ve noticed a few comments about some wishing that Russell Crowe was playing the drover. Well…he was. He and Nicole and Baz had worked on this story for several years; shaping it, wanting to tell a story about Australia that hadn’t been told before. Then inexplicably, Russell abandoned the project saying…”I don’t work for charity.” Meaning, he wanted more money. I thought it odd that he would walk away from something that he said meant so much to him just because of dollars and cents. But not another minute was wasted on him. They rang Jackman almost immediately and that was that.
This is just an opinion, but I think maybe Mr. Crowe thought he could bargain for a bigger paycheck by walking away. Well sir…Australia has two extrodinary male film stars; yourself and Mr. Jackman. And word has it, you’re a pain in the ass to be around and Hugh has the reputation of being the nicest guy in the business.
As talented an actor as Russell Crowe is -and in my opinion, he is arguably the greatest screen actor in the world…at the moment- his off screen antics and personality are starting to hurt him professionally. He should have won back to back Oscars with his performance in “A Beautiful Mind” and he should have been nominated for “Cinderella Man.” But neither happened. He even had the nerve to berate the movie going audience for not supporting “Cinderella Man.” He said he’s done enough great work on the screen that they should have shown up and supported it. I couldn’t believe that he is that deluded. He just doesn’t get it. Alot of them don’t. And what they don’t get is…the way a performer behaves in his/her private life, does affect how audiences react to them. Maybe it shouldn’t. Maybe we should be able to seperate the “work” from their “private lives.” But we don’t. I think when we “fall in love” with actors it’s not only because of their looks or their talent, but because of who we perceive them to be as people. Maybe I’m wrong. But if Hugh Jackman were just another Hollywood jerk and had dumped his wife the minute he hit town and was ******** his way through the ranks of Hollywood and was treating people like sh*t just because he was a movie star, I don’t care how good looking he is or how talented an actor, I wouldn’t waste five minutes of my time on him. Yes, he’s beautiful beyond description and has more all around talent than any other actor of his generation (he can do anything in front of a camera that the Clooneys, the Pitts, the Depps, etc. can do, but none of them can do on a stage in front of a live audience what Jackman can do. NONE OF THEM), but it’s who he is, that has enamored me; the devoted husband and father and the kindness he displays to whomever he meets.
Mr. Crowe and a few others ought to start paying a little attention to way Mr. Jackman conducts himself.
I heard Russell Crowe dropped out because his wife did not want him in close contact with Kidman for that long. Knowing her rep for sleeping with her co-stars I don’t blame her one bit. Maybe if Mimi Rogers would have done the same thing she wouldn’t have gotten her claws in Tom Cruise and would have stayed in Australia since,he’s the only reason she got famous over here.It sure isn’t because she can act.
Wow I cant wait for Hugh Jackmans’ movie to come out and buy it so I can watch it over and over again.
AUSTRALIA MIGHT WIN THE BEST PICTURE NEXT YEAR… LOOKS LIKE A GREAT MOVIE
This pretentious indulgent movie is destined for critical acclaim but huge financial losses. No way will overseas theatre goers recoup the $100 million + cost of the movie. Nicole will now be viewed as toxic for any future movies takings.
I run a small chain of art-house cinemas and every six months we gather our donors and watch the preview trailers and vote in our next season of films. Well nobody voted for this movie. I don’t know whether it is the Kidman curse or what, but it does seem that she’s become box office poison. I voted against it because having seen the receipts for when we screened ‘Fur’ starring Nicole Kidman… Well lets put it this way - Nicole wouldn’t have been able to buy a lipstick with the money that we made that week. Nicole Kidman? No thanks.
