Piper, PT, and everyone chiming in on this topic is so right. We haven’t had black leadership in gawd knows when, if ever. I mean leadership that we as a community selected to lead us. We have had people that the media has selected and proclaimed our leaders. But to select our own leaders and decide that these are the people we are going to follow. No. What is disturbing to me, and you, is that the hip hop stars and moguls have not stepped up to donate. But what about the athletes who make millions , the movie stars, but also where are the religious leaders Jesse Jackson and Rev Sharpton, and others? This is the type of photo -op Jesse and the good Reverend would love. But it isn’t their idea of project. This is a idea and plan that was conceived and initiated by a white mega movie star. They cannot take ownership of it. But before we blast the brothers and sisters to severely right now let’s discuss the HW “friends” of Brad. From now on known as FOB. At each and every interview Brad has been asked about his “friend” George Clooney. During his interview with Kevin Frasier, Kevin asked about George. Brad, laughingly said that he would probably donate after seeing this interview. I looked the makeitright site earlier and the donor names hadn’t changed. Which of course doesn’t mean he hasn’t donated. But we all know that there is immense competition among all parties named for the spot light. Some people don’t mind not being the leader. Others what to be perceived as the leader, the idea man, the shot maker, the baller. To fall in line behind an idea that didn’t originate with them is difficult. It is also childish, and stupid. It is true for me as an African American woman, that I would love to see more wealthy African Americns step up and donate. If for no other reason than the 9th ward was mostly African Americans. I had thought about trying to contact some of the hip hop moguls. But if you have ask or shame them into donating then something is wrong. Now being fair some of the hip hoppers did donate right after Katrinia: Diddy, Jay Z, Kanye and others. And GC gave a million. So much of that money was mishandled and wasted. Maybe this might explain the slowness of the donations. Whatever, I am more than confident Brad will make his goal. And maybe after X-MAS the donations will pour in. This is a good idea, a great idea. And good ideas have a life of their own. It will spread and touch those whose minds and hearts are open. Peace
