Angelina Jolie is a Celebrity Do-Gooder
Angelina Jolie recently topped Reuters’ celebrity do-gooder poll for both her work as a U.N. goodwill ambassador and raising awareness of suffering in Africa.
On the bottom of the list? Fellow adoptive mother Madonna! The Queen of Pop was voted the least respected celebrity altruist of 2007 because of claims she used her fame and wealth to circumvent Malawian adoption rules.
“People aren’t stupid,” said Peter Walker, director of the Feinstein International Famine Center at Tufts University. “They can really sense when it’s just an endorsement and when somebody really means it. Someone like Angelina Jolie comes across as having more integrity than some celebrities and a greater sense that she doesn’t just do this for the publicity.”
One voter in the poll hurled quite the insult: “Madonna seems to do philanthropy the way she’s done Indian culture, sex and just about everything — like a disposable fad.”
Ouch!
Brad Pitt, Mia Farrow and Don Cheadle also won praise for their advocacy on behalf of Sudan’s war-torn Darfur region.

Angelina is a compassionate person without a cause… her charity begins with her heart…
Ditto on the voter who wrote such a lucid statement re: Madonna… FAKE, FAKE, FAKE… there’s not much substance behind all the well engineered facades…
thanks JJ for adding Brad’s name too,way to go jolie-pitt.they are the best couple now and forever.
WHO cares?
Congrats to Angie, Brad and Don.
JJ , you falied to mention Oprah was also on the list of least repsected do-gooder celbrities.
Angelina is an amazing person, she had the biggest heart ever.
God Bless Angie and the whole family.
Angie is my #1 role model.
I just love Angie and Brad.they are great couple with good heart.I love Don too.congrate to Brad and Angie and whoever got praises.
hi fans.have a nice day.
To Big Deal,
Sorry. YOU care. You are here with us. LOL!
It looks like it says Angelina is a goody too shoes.
Angelina is a celebrity humanitarian.
This “do-gooder” moniker has to go. Nobody called Audrey Hepburn or Paul Newman a do-gooder……….
Thanks Peter Walker, you finally said what I have been wanting to say.
Madonna is so fake. We the people are NOT STUPID to see through Madonna.
Congratulation Angie. This poll is the true poll that sees the truth. Angie is the real deal, and so is Brad. Love this couple.
Thanks Jared for this thread.
Angie is hotter than ever…..
I’m a die hard fan.
Brad Pitt, Mia Farrow and Don Cheadle also won praise for their advocacy on behalf of Sudan’s war-torn Darfur region.
Nice.
GO ANGIE!!! she is the real deal…her sincerity and hard work is being recognize by those in higher places!! Good will always prevail !!
Thank you JJ for all the threads…
you’re really made my days knowing that Angie is bless and well….
To Big Deal #10
Why are you here? It must be a BIG DEAL TO YOU or you wouild not try to shoot it down.
I’m happy that again Brad and Angelina are getting praise for their charity’s works.well done super couple.
Thanks JJ
it truly shows that Angelina is not just a hollywood celebrity but a person who cares for other people and their well being. good for her.
This person didn’t have to be so harsh regarding Madonna. If he had bothered to do any investigation he would have found that Madonna has been an advocate for AIDS research and an avid supporter of the GMHC for the past 20 years. She was ahead of everyone.
Only God knows who is doing this kind of work with her/his heart and who is just looking for publicity.hope they all do it according to their heart.
i’ve always thought it is very important to mention ALL the do-gooders in hollywood and mention the once that do it for publicity because all these celebs need to know you CAN’T pretend to care. You either do or you don’t.
COngrats to Angie, Brad and Don and Mia as well. They are all deserving of the praise!
And hell yea, someone called out Maddonna for the fake b*tch that she is! Amen to that.
Just compare their faces. Madonna looks hard and brittle. Angelina is just luminous.
Good morning BAMPZSTERS! Busy, busy, busy but always lurking…
Kudos to Brad, Don, and Mia!!!!
Hey JJ where’s the link to the poll or the article?
Congrats to brad, angie, don, mia and to all of those who are in it from their heart.
Angelina deserves it to be acknowledged for her mighty heart of humanity.
FACTBOX-Angelina Jolie tops poll of best celebrity do-gooder
Thu Dec 27, 2007 7:00am EST Email | Print | Share| Reprints | Single
Dec 27 (Reuters Life!) - Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie tops a Reuters poll released on Thursday of the best celebrity humanitarians of 2007.
The poll by humanitarian Web site Reuters AlertNet (www.alertnet.org), which surveyed 606 people from Dec. 7 to 19, also found fellow adoptive mother Madonna was the least respected celebrity altruist of 2007.
Here are some details of the winners - and losers:
Q: Who gave the best name to “celebrity humanitarianism” in 2007?
1. Angelina Jolie
The actress has visited more than 20 humanitarian hot spots including Iraq and Darfur since becoming a goodwill ambassador for the U.N. refugee agency in 2001. On a trip to Iraq in August, she appealed for international aid to help millions of displaced Iraqis. Jolie has three adopted children - from Ethiopia, Cambodia and Vietnam.
2. Bono
The U2 singer and “Red” campaigner has been a tireless voice in the fight against HIV/AIDS, extreme poverty and crippling debt.
3. Desmond Tutu
The apartheid opponent and Nobel Peace Prize laureate has been a constant advocate of conflict resolution and reconciliation. This year he won India’s Gandhi Peace Prize and has been a vocal critic of the South African government’s response to HIV/AIDS. He is leader of “The Elders”, a humanitarian council made up of elder statesmen.
4. Bill Gates
The Microsoft founder and world’s second-richest man has poured money into the fight against infectious diseases such as AIDS and malaria. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has donated $3.5 billion since 2003, according to BusinessWeek.
5. Bill Clinton
The former U.S. president’s foundation tackles causes from HIV/AIDS to ethnic conflict. He holds an annual philanthropic summit that this year generated pledges to combat health, poverty, education and climate woes that he said could help 100 million people. His new book is titled “GIVING: How Each of Us Can Change the World”.
6. Jimmy Carter
The Nobel Peace Prize laureate and former U.S. president is a crusader for conflict resolution and diplomacy. His Carter Center works to prevent wars and eradicate diseases. This year he toured Sudan’s Darfur region with “The Elders” humanitarian council.
7. Kofi Annan
The former United Nations secretary-general is also a member of the “Elders” humanitarian council and founder of the Global Humanitarian Forum dedicated to strengthening the international community’s ability to tackle the big crises of our time and mega-disasters like the Asian tsunami.
8. Mia Farrow
A committed Darfur activist, Farrow has led a global movement to press China to help end abuses by ally Sudan. This year she started an Olympic-style torch relay through countries that have suffered genocide and offered up her own freedom in exchange for a respected Darfur rebel figure.
9. Don Cheadle
The actor has embraced humanitarian causes since his Oscar-nominated role in 2004’s “Hotel Rwanda”, becoming a passionate spokesman against atrocities in Darfur. He co-wrote “Not on Our Watch: The Mission to End Genocide in Darfur and Beyond”.
10. Brad Pitt
Like his partner, Angelina Jolie, the Hollywood hunk is a respected Darfur advocate. He has also launched a housing project in New Orleans.
Q: Who gave celebrity humanitarianism the worst name?
1. Madonna
Despite controversy surrounding her adoption of a Malawian “orphan” last year, Madonna has been lauded by Malawi’s government for putting the plight of AIDS orphans on the global stage and raising money to help them.
2. Paris Hilton
After spending 45 days in jail this year for violating probation on a traffic offense, Hilton announced she planned to swap partying for philanthropy with a trip to Rwanda. The trip was later postponed.
3. Oprah Winfrey
America’s highest-paid TV celebrity has used her Oprah’s Angel Network charity to support vulnerable people worldwide and AIDS-affected children in Africa. The former Bob Hope Humanitarian Award winner is ranked 35th in BusinessWeek’s ranking of most generous philanthropists. But her girls’ academy in South Africa made headlines this year when a former dormitory matron was charged with abusing students.
4. Bono
See above
5. Bob Geldof
The LiveAid legend and former Boomtown Rats singer has kept up the pressure on aid, trade and debt issues. His TV company is launching a broadband channel aimed at promoting world peace.

I have to agree with some of the post here that they shouldn’t be so harsh on Madonna, at least she is doing something to help africa.
They should have a BAD-DOER and list MANISTON on there.
Amazing Angelina, she deserve it more than anyone else.

Jerry Lewis Named Most-Effective Celebrity for Charity Causes
By Anne Howard
Americans find the actor Jerry Lewis to be the most effective celebrity for charity causes, according to a survey by Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company.
Though older Americans came to know Jerry Lewis first as the star of “The Disorderly Orderly” and the slapstick comic to Dean Martin’s straight man, younger generations have been introduced to him through the annual telethons he plays host to for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The telethons raise tens of millions of dollars each year, to fight neuromuscular diseases though research, treatment, and educational programs.
Mr. Lewis will lead the group’s 42nd televised fund-raising drive September 2 and 3.
“I was a little surprised when I heard, but then you get to know how long he has been supporting MDA,” says Chad Jester, president of the Nationwide Foundation, which operates the company’s philanthropic programs. “Jerry Lewis was doing this over a course of time, he didn’t do it for a couple years and then move onto something else. He had a heartfelt passion and stayed with it for decades.”
The other nine spots on the survey’s list went to, in order: Oprah Winfrey, Michael J. Fox, former president Jimmy Carter, Bill Gates, Angelina Jolie, Bono of the rock group U2, Lance Armstrong, Katie Couric, and Rosie O’Donnell.
Nationwide’s survey, conducted through phone interviews with 462 American adults, also asked respondents what issues they found to be the most important.
Causes that help children and youths topped that list, followed by efforts for animals, antihunger causes, education and literacy, services for older people, religion, health and medicine, the environment, aid for disabled people, and women’s causes.
Younger people, ages 18 to 42, were more interested in international causes than older people were, the survey showed, and favored celebrities like Ms. Winfrey, Ms. Jolie, and Bono, who work in developing countries to ease poverty.

yeah, people aren’t stupid.they can understand who will start talking about Darfur when award season begins.I’m happy he is not on the list too.
Although it is nice to do things from your heart, lets not lose sight of the fact that regardless of the reasons people do things, things are still getting done and people out there are benefiting. at the end of the day, there is a little selfishness (and desire for praise) in everyone of us but it is minor when you think about the people who are or can benefit.
Totally a well deserved accolade.
Cheers Angelina and Brad! :)
I just caught up with all the threads I missed since before Christmas.
Wow Jared! You certainly keep up to date!
Thanks.
Very grateful.
Awesome pics and articles.
So in the spirit of this thread I would like to remind those charitable fans (and haters/trolls - c’mon, i bet it’ll hardly pinch your pockets) to please donate to Brad’s worthy cause:

For those who are eagerly awaiting the availability of the absolutely must-have pink tote bag, it will soon be available by the first week of January ‘08!
What’s even more amazing about that tote bag? It will be made out of the material that they used for the current pink exhibit. Check out their website to learn more.
Good day to all!

Go Angie! Forever your fan!
It is quite funny how you guys judge people you don’t know, jen does not need to justify her actions or her work to any of you guys, what is the point of this list really bcos i just don’t get it, many people give , jen as been an advocate for st jude’s for over 7years now and her campaining with other celebrities has raised millions of money but you all would never say that bcos it is less worthy trust me it isn’t bcos
I have seen cancer fiRst hand(AFFECTS PEOPLE FROM THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES TOO) and they come to st jude’s bcos of the finances that are raised by people like jen and other people whom support)and i know what it does, and you guys can hate jen despise her call her names but never lie bcos it makes you all look stupid.
Jen is stingy blah blah it is getting sad now , leave her alone and let her be and stop calling her names or other people for that matter it is childish and ignorant, and if the people whom wrote this article really cared why don’t they use the money for better things or writing about the plight of the poor , this article will not add or subtract from the lives of those whom need helping it won’t.
I hope people keep on giving in any way they can bcos a life is changed by every little that is done and everyone deserves to be acknowledged.
Sorry for my ranting but hte truth neeeds to be told and most of you pick on jen just to cause trouble.
Where’s Sir Elton John on that list?

You NEVER miss to jump on any NONSENSICAL few
words of a few morons that basically waste their time ANYWAYS.
Then YOU start to talk about that HOMELY, FUGLY FRAUD and
LIAR and a LOSER of the century that is Maniston. WHO the
he*ll cares but YOU! NOBODY but YOU!
GOT IT?!
REMEMBER!
That’s NORMAL and it ALWAYS happens when somebody is at
the TOP as Angie is.
You even bring that TRASHY email over here!
Now we just NEED from you to bring some HATING on
Brad Pitt over here - that shouldn’t be difficult to find.
Go ahead! And don’t forget to mention the shells of their exes!
Yawn…

good for Angie, kudos.
Congratulations to Ange & Brad. They deserves the recognitions, they are truly remarkable actors & good examples to others. I salute both of you. May God continue to bless the Jolie-Pitt’s Family.
Thats Wonderful News, But We Fans Knew that..
Thanks JJ.
gee, that was a no brainer. like her or not, angie is serious about philanthropy. madge, not so much. they should rename their poll “people aren’t as stupid as Madonna’s P.R. staff thinks”.
did madonna just edge out j aniston??
Angelina has been philanthropic and a humanitarian for a good while now. It’s not news but this is great for people who are cluless about her works.
Congrats Angelina!!
You are the Chosen One for this Generation!!
I always pray for you and your family- the Jolie- Pitt’s.

Can you all see why Brad was smitten by Angelina? Compared to her, that other one he was with was like a sad sack of potatoes.
Yes, Jen filmed a commercial for Sait Jude. That’s all !!! Do we see anything more other than the commercial? NO !!! How much time did she spend in filming this 2 minute commercial? LITTLE !!
Did Jen give a lot of money, NOTHING , to the point that it’s embarrassing to mention it.
Dont tell me she does it quietly. Everything a celebrity done is published. All her moves, are reported in the media.
Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Bono etc donations are published.
Densel Washington recently gave 1 million to some debating team, it was reported and broadcasted on extra TV. Julia Roberts, Rosie gave 1 million to the Katrina disaster, and was reported. …..
Sam, you cant fix this for Jen. Just go and tell her to OPEN HER PURSE !!!
The poll by humanitarian Web site Reuters AlertNet (www.alertnet.org), which surveyed 606 people from Dec. 7 to 19,.
Be careful of a hater (most likely Sam) POSTING AS A FAN, will be asking for a link to look up how much Brad donatedover the year.
Dont fall for the trap
Dear friend Irma,

#71: Is it really that impossible to give without the media knowing? Maybe we should give Jennifer Aniston the benefit of the doubt. Now, I am not a faniston, far from it, but maybe in our zeal to put Angie up we are demonizing Aniston too much. Maybe she does more for St. Jude than a 1-minute TV commercial. Then again, maybe not. My point is, who really knows?
Hugs and kisses to my beloved Angie for topping this particular list. Now to me this is the kind of list that matters (this, and the most respected person in the U.S. list, where she tied with Laura Bush for fourth place). She is really coming into her own, she is so young and yet so well-respected. Am so proud of her, and also of Brad for making this list.
Ahem, where is the peace-awarded GC? I wonder if he would resurface for Darfur causes come January to March, when the GGs, SAGs and Oscars are given out?
Why is the X being discussed yet again? This is about Angelina not the X.

Well, Jen does have 110 M in networth. It was reported she gave approx 2K to I think Obama. Had Jen given some “meaningful” amount, it would have been noticed by the media.
The evidences that she doesnt give back are just too strong for me to give her benefit of the doubt.
Oh c’mon guys!
Please do not even put Angelina’s name against that other woman.
It doesn’t even compare.
No need to even mention her.
What’s the relevance? She’s not even a part of their lives.
She’s in Brad’s past.
Let her be left there- in the past- and just move on.
OT- I just read from the former thread about that woman who got fired for writing a hateful, homophobic e-mail to Perez Hilton.
So sad for that woman, especially in the Holidays.
That’s obviously not the right way to start the new year, but honestly, it baffles me that to this day that kind of ignorant hatred can still exist.
Looking at what is happening to Pakistan right now, it only shows you what blind hatred and being unreasonable can lead to.
I think some people need to realize that its easier, and definitely healthier, to discuss differences than to argue nonsensically and fruitlessly about them.
Angelina does that becuse she has a gigant heart. God knows that.
Mf, thanks a lot. You are so thoughtful. Everyday, it seems JJ gives us all the the new thread of our favorite two. God bless you all.
GALLUP POLL - SHE CAME NO 4 WITH HILLARY, OPRAH, CONDOLEEZA AND LAURA BUSH AS MOST ADMIRED WOMAN 2007. NO OTHER MOVIE STARS MADE THE LIST!

“Aniston, ‘Sex and the City’ hottie shack up
Andrew H. Walker / Getty Images
Actor Jason Lewis, best known as the age-inappropriate boy toy of Samantha on “Sex and the City,” may be shacking up with new gal pal Jennifer Aniston.
Jennifer Aniston has a new man to go with her latest nose job — “Sex and the City” hunk (and Rosario Dawson’s ex) Jason Lewis. Best known as the age-inappropriate boy toy belonging to Kim Cattrall’s Samantha character, Jason hooked up with Jen in November and now the two are practically living together, reports Star.
Jen first met Jason through then-husband Brad Pitt. The two reconnected at the encouragement of others. “Mutual friends at the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital charity (for which Jen is a spokesperson) thought Jen and Jason would make a great couple,” an insider told Star. “So they started e-mailing. After their first date, they began seeing each other nonstop.”
According to Star, the simpatico homebodies spend most of their time either at Jen’s Malibu home or Jason’s pad, cooking, working out and watching DVDs. “Oh, Jason hates to go out!” blabbed the Star source. “He’s not into the nightclub scene at all. That’s why it didn’t work out between him and his ex Rosario Dawson. She’s a party girl, and he’s more the quiet, artsy type. Jen loves that.”
Inarguably hotter than even Brad Pitt (and by far, better completed), this model-turned-actor may be the right prescription to heal Jen’s post-divorce woes. In fact, Jen turned down a holiday invite from her beloved ex mother-in-law, Jane Pitt, to spend Christmas with Jason’s family.
“Jason can’t wait for his family to fall in love with Jen,” enthused the insider, “just like he has.”

Oh, so Jen was invited to the Pitts but just turned them down, huh? Yeah, right. Too bad we saw her spending Christmas with Courtney Cox, and that we know Jason Lewis left town without her. Even for a gossip rag article, this is pathetic.
#58: ty, as they said: people aren’t stupid. They can see thru the do-gooding that some people do. Some do it for selfish reasons like free publicity or so they won’t stand out as the only one who never gave anything except an autographed picture, hand me downs or freebies they got themselves.

Did you really need to bring this garbage here?
Did you misread the title of this thread?
Some just can’t help but bring tabloid garbage to the Jolie-Pitt threads.
Oh quit whining and learn how to skim.

Skim….?!
Wasn’t you the one going after Jill or another fan on another thread for bashing the ex?
I’m reading all over this blog right now ’cause I probably wont be able to catch up in the coming days.
The Holidays is always so busy for me, especially the days leading up to the New Year.
So much to prepare!
Before the Christmas, so many events, family gatherings and parties to catch up… but all in good fun. I had such a wonderful time.
Looking forward to the New Year celebration as well!
So in advance,
HAPPY, HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!
—
I am so looking forward to the SAG awards.
I won’t be able to look forward to the GG and Oscars anymore, although all I really wanted to see was the fabulous ( and ridiculous) red carpet outfits ;) , but I’m glad SAG got a waiver.
—
Absolutely OT-
I’m also watching Transformers on DVD at the moment ( I know its not everyone’s cup of tea but sometimes I’m so easy to entertain, even by mundane entertainment) and I just have to declare that IF OPTIMUS PRIME WAS HUMAN, I’D TOTALLY FALL FOR HIM/IT.
Sometimes, I just have to get in touch with my idealistic self, naive though it may be.
Thanks for the new thread Just Jared. AJ is an inspiring woman and has done good work with her various charitable projects and duties as UN
Ambassador. It is nice to see her recognized. All those listed have done admirable work. Madonna has also done good things with her various charity projects and should also be commended. Sometimes, good work get lost in tabloid sensationalizing and smears.. It is all in the perception.
Best wishes to BAMPZS and peace to all.
I don’t care if people dislike her. I just don’t see the need to call her a fat ass when she clearly isn’t. Her body’s great. Her need to leak fake-ass stories about her hot boytoys, not so much.
First this isn’t a Pitt-Jolie Thread it’s about Charity work!!!! You loonies hate it when the facts are brought out, like this one…..
Charities supported by Jennifer Aniston:
Clothes Off Our Back-She gave Pitt’s clothes he left behind to this one, he he.
EB Medical Research Foundation
Friends of El Faro
GLAAD
Habitat For Humanity
Lili Claire Foundation
Luke Neuhedel Foundation
Project A.L.S.
Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

Why do you have to post this here ! This is all about Angie! “Small mind is occupied with small things!” Get a life! Peace!
Who gives a poop about who spent Xmas with the Pitts. Obvs something is wrong with them because Angie didn’t spend Xmas with the hillbilly family either. She would rather go to Mickey D’s.

Review: The best (and worst) films of 2007
Anyway, here are the films that made my year
“The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford”
Filmed in languid, wispy vignettes by cinematographer Roger Deakins, this is an elegiac, rueful evocation of the death of the Western hero, a slow passing that occurs long before Jesse (Brad Pitt) draws his last breath. Affleck is the disillusioned, romantic Ford — and the film is his tragedy more than anyone’s.
That guy is so-so too hot for the homely looking older Nobody. I think Huvane hates her too. He makes her looking more and more pathetic.
~~~~~~~~~~
So Maniston doesn’t have enough money to pay that one and he left.
Surprise! wow, how pathetic beyond words.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
How do they know he is better “completed” than Brad ?! Seriously doubt. Angie is still with him!
And he made a baby to her!
Congrats to both Angelina and Brad on being named to this list.
MF , I couldnot find an ecard from you . I looked everywhere for it.
“Clothes Off Our Back-She gave Pitt’s clothes he left behind to this one, he he.”
Not much to brag about in this case. But in the spirit of giving, I guess every little bit helps.
Lynn, just what does that have to do with ANGELINA JOLIE? Angelina is an A list humanitarian so who gives a poop about ONE of Brad’s exes.
It’s good to see that they recognize Angelina’s work and know when someone is faking it like Madge, Brad, and George. They should have to spend more than 1 year doing good deeds for others before they are on Angie’s level. OKAY? lets see if they stick with it first.

unabashed @ 12/28/2007 at 11:17 am Just compare their faces. Madonna looks hard and brittle. Angelina is just luminous.
—————————
Also, you will see Angelina in the mud with refugees, eyes wide open, luminous with an healthy child or attentive to the suffering, the personal stories while Madonna and the likes who like to fake it will go in a nice village, doing ONLY some dancing for the show.
As a mixed race afropean with relatives still living in Africa, I find it pretty repulsive and petty from her part as well of a lack of real understanding about the real issues in Africa where 80 % of the dead are less than 18 years because of malaria, child deasease and lack of food.
Madonna like only to go there to keep on making the show as a promotion of her ‘entertainer’ omage, not as Madonna, the woman. She is just living with the very reductive image of the always dancing, naive and smiling African. You won’t see her taking a dirty near dying child in her arms or listenning to a woman suffering.
Another celebrity who is often forgotten is Jessica Lange. She went to Eastern Congo a few years ago and depicted with tears in her eyes the widespread rape on children and women…victims of 3 years old (the age of Zee) were among the most tragic victims with all their intern wounds. She said that she never could imagine what extrteme despicable means until she saw a wounded theee years old raped traumatized and wounded.

“Aniston, ‘Sex and the City’ hottie shack up
(by) Andrew H. Walker
***********************************************************************
Let me see if i understand this:
A so-called reputable news site, MSNBC, carries an article which was written using a lying, gutter-press tabrag as its SOURCE OF INFORMATION?
:) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
And the US of A wonders why it is going to h*ll in handbasket?
Here’s a little tale to ponder: Once upon a time, not too long ago, there was a phenomenon called The British Empire. The citizens of this worldwide Kingdom boasted that “the sun will never set on the British Empire.”
The British Empire existed fromn the middle of the 16th century all the way to the middle of the 1960s (albeit as a shadow of its former self by the 1940s). Today, that once-proud British Empire has been reduced to the pathetic size of its original little island-state, an almost forgotten relic of its former self.
And all the while that the BE was declining, America was rising. I believe America saw its peak during the 1990s.
But who among us today, with eyes to see and ears to hear, can deny that America’s rapid decline has begun in earnest, circa 9/11?
And the rapidity of its decline cannot be denied. So now, the only question is, how many of us will be around to see when this once great nation begins to crawl on its belly while the brown peoples of the world (who will be in charge, by then) laugh at the once great US of A?
Are the little teeny boppers, the obese, the undereducted masses and those busy getting their 15 minutes on the endless ‘reality’ tv shows paying attention?
What do you think? :)
Congrats to Angie, she has been dedicated all these years and will continue to do so. You go girl. :)

That is so sad.
Thanks for that information about Jessica Lange.
I’ve admired her as an actress, but now that you’ve mentioned what she has done for her cause, I have found a new found respect for her.
There are many more celebrities who do support their charities but I think Angelina is perceived by most as obviously sincere because she has earned, through time, hard work, open mind and a truly giving (well-intentioned) heart, the respect that most people have for her.
It’s also incredible that despite all that hype around them they are still able to put things in perspective.
That’s probably because of their kids.
There’s nothing more humbling that in the end of the day they see you as just you. Just imagine, for those kids, they’re nothing more than MOM and DAD. Love that about kids.

Yes, Aniston supported certain charities. But SUPPORT does NOT EQUAL TO GIVING MONEY.
It’s the CASH given out and TIME that we are saying that Jen is NOT giving back, considering she has 110 million sitting in the bank.

African Girl aka Time Out @ 11/09/2006 at 8:42 am
This is my third and hopefully, last post on this thread. Normally, I’d read the posts but I had to post on the Jolie Charity vs. Jen Charity.
This is for the Aniston Fans…
You say she gives quietly which is good but she can do better. Many studies have shown there is an increase in donations when a celebrity is attached to a cause. Using her status as a celeb, she could quadruple her own donations by creating and awareness.
Chloe Sevigny said recently…
“Educate yourself and try to get out there, especially with celebrities, go to different events and lend your name and help to raise money.”
She understands that with celebrity come certain responsibilities. It’s one thing to attend a charity dinner worth 10,000 and it’s quite another to be a voice for a cause. I don’t expect much from the Paris Hiltons, Nicole Riches of the world but with Jennifer Aniston….I mean let’s look at it this way, if her hairstyle created so much hype and imitation, can you imagine what will happen if she stood firmly behind a cause? Let’s be reasonable here….forget your hate or dislike for Angelina Jolie for one second and think about this. If some of you still think her giving quietly is the best way, that’s fine BUT please don’t demean what Ms. Jolie is doing by calling it a “photo-op”. In case you aren’t aware what an Ambassador for the UN does, then let’s make it clear….They help SHINE the light on issues. She’d be doing her ambassadorship a disservice if all she did was behind the scenes.
I’m including an article from USA Today, which in my opinion, sums up the importance of celebrity advocates.
HEADLINE: Hear them out;
Celebrity activists are an easy target. After all, when Hollywood stars stoop down to help the underprivileged, their efforts often appear pious or self-serving. The results, though, tell a different story. Celebrity gossip has gotten to be a drag. While it used to be a kick indulging in the guilty pleasure of showbiz dish — marital infidelities, movie set tantrums, the randomly tossed telephone — nowadays Hollywood headlines seem more suited to page one than Page Six.
In the past few months alone, say the papers, Nicole Kidman was appointed goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Development Fund for Women, Naomi Watts and Matt Damon were in Zambia, sounding an alarm about HIV/AIDS, and George Clooney was kicking up sand in Darfur, hoping to shine a spotlight on that war-torn region. Oh, yeah — and Los Angeles cops plucked a protesting Daryl Hannah from a walnut tree.
When did everything get so darn serious?
The truth is, celebrity activism has been around since Charlie Chaplin first kicked that beach ball-globe as The Great Dictator, and War Bonds saleslady Hedy Lamarr sold kisses for at least $25,000 each in support of our GIs overseas.
But as the news and entertainment industries continue to morph into one another, do-goodism of the rich and famous has become just another front in the culture wars. As a result, the TV, movie and music stars who pipe up on behalf of pet causes often earn more bile than bravos among grumpy pundits.
Politics vs. culture
“The problem with the humanitarianism of the entertainers is that it perpetuates a confusion of politics with culture,” argues New Republic columnist Leon Wieseltier, who calls Angelina Jolie “the African queen” and deems longtime rabble-rouser Michael Douglas unworthy of discussing international peace. “(This) teaches Americans to live vicariously … in slavish imitation of people luckier than themselves.”
Then there’s the hypocrisy factor. Peter Schweizer, author of the celeb-cause wrist slapper Do As I Say (Not As I Do): Profiles in Liberal Hypocrisy, reports that Barbra Streisand spends $22,000 a year watering her lawn and gardens, while she lectures Americans on the need to cut back on water and gas consumption by hanging out their wash and junking their SUVs. Oh, Babs.
On one hand, the critics make a good point. Those more accustomed to signing autographs than to penning policy papers often raise eyebrows, not awareness, as theymove from the sound stage to the sound bite. (Bo Derek’s vacant-eyed endorsement of President Bush, for example, continues to amuse me.) And even when a star knows of what he preaches, the delivery tends to teeter between the riotously pious and hopelessly hammy.
Who can forget Richard Gere’s infamous attempt to mind-meld with Chinese leaders over the thorny issue of Tibet from the stage of the Academy Awards? Not exactly a Bono moment.
But to write off all celebrity activists as windy, whiny and woefully out of touch is to ignore the unique advantage celebrities have in getting their message out.
For starters, entertainment idols are notoriously image-conscious, so when they put their careers on the line for a cause, you’ve got to figure they’re drop-dead serious about their positions. (See the Dixie Chicks as exhibits A through C.) But more important, tarring all stars as know-nothing opportunists unfairly undermines those who rise above garden-variety activism and actually conduct the research required for good advocacy.
Take Martin Sheen.
Because of the veteran actor’s famous outspokenness — not to mention the fact that he played the president on TV — conservatives have practically called for an all-out jihad on the guy, depicting him as the worst thing to happen to America since the invention of the Chia Pet. But why not give Sheen his soapbox, especially considering his street creds? Arrested for protests more than 60 times, he has engaged in the kind of investigative legwork expected of journalists and scholars, not empty-headed leading men. He has stood with impoverished migrant workers, provided hands-on aid to the “scavengers” of the Payatas garbage dump in the Philippines, and continues to speak with authority about the hazards of nuclear waste. If this kind of substantive homework doesn’t earn a fellow the right to spout off, what does
Jolie educates viewers
Meanwhile, Leno and Letterman can make all the cracks they want about Angelina Jolie, but when the actress sat down last week with CNN’s Anderson Cooper for her first post-Baby Shiloh interview, I learned more about child starvation in Namibia than I’ve ever gotten from the nightly news. For my money, I have come to appreciate what celebrity activism brings, not to the rancorous roundtables but to where it’s needed most: the coffers.
Last summer, Primetime Live’s Diane
Sawyer followed Brad Pitt to Africa, where the actor was doing work on behalf of the ONE campaign to fight global AIDS and poverty. Sawyer wanted Pitt to spill about his breakup with Jennifer Aniston, and he agreed — provided the show would devote equal coverage to ONE’s battle. While the dashing actor’s romantic confessional made headlines — then evaporated — within a single news cycle, the wrenching images of hungry and impoverished African children clearly had a lasting impact. Within two days of the broadcast, ONE had recorded a 560% leap in Web donations and a sevenfold increase in the sponsoring of needy kids. That’s activism.
What’s amusing about all of this is that conservatives are the ones who most often neer at Hollywood cause-peddlers — and yet they seem to have short memories. After all, 26 years ago this November, didn’t they take a particular shine to a movie star-activist themselves? And if I remember correctly, the guy wasn’t even that good an actor.
END OF ARTICLE
The Reality is, it’s is not about you, me or even the celeb in question, it is about the people at the receiving end. Do you think they care what the celebrity’s motives are? Do you think they care what we…as celeb watchers think? I highly doubt it….When is comes to starving and sick people; let’s agree that the end justifies the means.
If you care to, do a quick google search on CELEBRITY ACTIVISM to read more. The Operative word here is ACTIVISM…which means taking a DIRECT action to support a cause…not sitting in the sidelines or taking a back seat. Angelina Jolie is an Activist, Jennifer Aniston is a donor. Being the former requires you to be out there, so it’s a little silly to fault her for doing so.

The only hatefilled person here appears to be you. Why are you here in this thread? You proved that you are nothing but a LIAR with your own words. So once again why are you here?
“Question” #166 - go back and re-read what Lynn said. She didn’t say she doesn’t know anything ABOUT her. She doesn’t KNOW HER. Meaning, she has never and will probably never meet her. And if she does, it would be for no longer than anyone else on this silly blog would; seconds at most. Not nearly enough time to actually KNOW a person. Any more than reading celebrity blogs, tabloids or watching edited interviews put together by PR reps on television allows us to KNOW these people.
I have to agree, you people really are petty and hateful most of the time. Glad to see AJ inspires such positive attributes in you. Being fiercely loyal and protective of a complete strange you will never meet is just weird.
i just love Angie and Brad they do all they can, to help less unfortunate people .they are good and kind hearted .people are starting to know about all the lies that have been written about the jolie pitt family.Angie and Brad deserve all the praise they are getting.we do not idolize Angie and Brad we care for them because they are good people.we do pray to GOD to help jolie pitts and to keep them from all harm.i do not understand why people come on this thread who hate the jolie pitts.and why hate them ,they are beautiful people.the people here, the jp fans are all good people but we do take up for jp family.and i know you people know this when you come on this thread.
Ha! @ 12/28/2007 at 2:46 pm
actually If you want to think in this way,you are free.but before defeding Lynn for not being hateful toward BAMPZS please go back and read last threads I don’t know which one but I’m sure I read one hateful comment from her in BAMPZS’s thread.so she is not new here and we all know she is fan of whom.and I don’t think after all those hates I read on FF about BAMPZS.I can even compare them to people here in JJ.
I don’t think you can even compare them to BAMPZS’s fans.
i agree with the person who posted that angelina giving and doing inspires others and what a great thing! she is a very inspirational person and she walks the walk. i think she is awesome.
Not defending, clarifying what she said because it was obvious the response wasn’t appropriate. AND because I can see what she was saying.
There are hateful comments all over this blog made not just by Lynn. The majority of what I’ve read have been written by the so-called BAMPZS fans.
Ha! @ 12/28/2007 at 2:46 pm
One can be known also through their deeds. Angelina has been in the field and the trenches, paying her own costs, without Hollywood generated PR publicity (because she does not have a publicist unlike most celebs) for many years now. UNHCR does publish photos after her visits because that is how they bring attention to the dire and desperate plight of refugees that they are trying to assist around the world. No photos are published while Angelina is actually present in very dangerous parts of the world. Angelina does not go dressed to the nines, she blends in with the people she is surrounded with, no makeup or hairdresser folks with her, she goes to help not hinder, children’s issues are especially important to her.
So for any to come here and attempt to cast her in a negative light in a snarky manner is just plain ire raising. Angelina’s humanitarism is well documented, she does it from her heart, that is what humanitarism is all about. She is for real, and that is what irritates you armchair critics, because you don’t like the truth, you prefer the lies the tabs have spoonfed their believers. You are welcome to your ingrained ignorance, but you are not welcome to come here with it.
——————————————————————————————-
Angelina is fake and time will say the the truth! Madonna didn’t give any interview about her charity work in Malawi but she has given milions of dollars and she has given money for charity since the beginning of her carrer. People belive in everything silly tabloids write. So if the daily mail wrotes: Madonna steales a baby, people belive it!
Madonna is silly, because she could give tons on interviews to explain “how saint she’is” like FAKE ANGE
Ha! @ 12/28/2007 at 2:58 pm
you know I can care less what she told because I didn’t bother myself to answer to her,but telling JP’s fans are the most hateful people in cyber space is just something bitter.because I’m sure you and that Lynn poster are very well aware of JP’s haters all over internet such as popsugar,Perez hilton, dlisted,FF,hollyscoop and etc.people there don’t even have an issue with wishing death for jps or wishing bad event for brad or angie or their kids or even name calling jp’s kids and attacking them.and then we have one JA’s fan here who tells us we are hatefull.sorry but it doesn’t make any sense.
Just read through the read..
Oh please. Lynn goes around calling people ‘loonies’ in the first line of her post no less and she thinks that ‘AJ fans’ are hateful. Why she felt the need to resort to name-calling and insulting posters to prove her point is beyond me and entirely un-called for.
Then says things like ‘AJ fans’ are the most hateful she has met when she came on here and insulted people first. Laughable.
And Ha!
You are not much better than Lynn. ‘You people’..my goodness generalize much? Learn to differentiate as not all posters on here have said hateful things.

unabashed @ 12/28/2007 at 11:17 am Just compare their faces.
She said that she never could imagine what extrteme despicable means until she saw a wounded theee years old raped traumatized and wounded.

you are only a poor ignorant! madonna went 3 times in malawi, the first time nobody knew she went, the second time she went for almost 2 weeks and she took David and last april she went back with Lourdes and David and she didn’t spend her time dancing and smiling but she visited all her projects: a millenium village, a children care centre, clinics, nursery and many many more. But I say again time will say the truth
Sorry I don’t recall saying anything about AJ herself just her fans. I would never and have never said anything about the children. I don’t hate Jolie or Pitt…..So please quit putting words in my mouth. I believe what my point was that everyone who gives no matter in what way should get credit.

Summer sequels, SIFF and a writers’ strike: Why 2007 is a year to remember in movies
The success of “Beowulf”: It could well be that future generations will look back on Robert Zemeckis’ adaptation of the Old English classic the way we now do on “The Jazz Singer” — as a movie that changed the whole technical direction of Hollywood. It’s not the first hit movie to digitize live actors and stream them into a digital world, but it’s the first to significantly alter the body structure of live actors to suit the demands of the filmmaker (for instance, transforming its diminutive star, Ray Winstone, into a brawny muscleman). It points to a future in which human actors are increasingly irrelevant, and even the most realistic “live-action” movies are mostly computer-animated. “Beowulf” also worked so well in its 3-D engagements that it seemed to finally pull this 55-year-old process out of the realm of gimmickry and into the regular vocabulary of action filmmaking.
The movie-star vanity project:
Sparked by an article by David Denby in The New Yorker, the movie press was full of talk about the death of the star system in ‘07. The thesis is that celebrity no longer has any connection whatsoever to box office in the new movie millennium: The tabloids were full of Tom Cruise all year long but his name couldn’t bring an audience to “Lions for Lambs.” It may be true that stars no longer matter in the way they once did, but the star system worked for moviegoers in at least one way in ‘07: Most of the year’s best movies were made simply because a powerful producer-star wanted them made. Without those big names in the credits (working for scale) no studio would have touched Angelina Jolie’s “A Mighty Heart,” George Clooney’s “Michael Clayton,” Brad Pitt’s “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford,” Joaquin Phoenix and Mark Wahlberg’s “We Own the Night” or Sean Penn’s “Into the Wild.”

Why knock Angelina or Madonna? They are both out in the world doing good for others. No one should dictate what others should do, people should do good because that is the right thing to do. If one has plenty of bread and their neighbor has none, should not the one with bread share? Is this not what makes one a human? The form of the assistance is not what matters, the act of assistance is what is important. Both Angelina and Madonna give both their money and time. NEITHER IS A FAKE, BOTH ARE QUITE REAL AND SINCERE.
Those like you who spend your life being critical of the efforts of others to lend a helping hand, no matter what it is, are just subhumans. But your hand will be out quickly enough when you are in need, that’s a given. The humans among us always end up assisting the subhumans like you. That’s the only way you subhumans survive. Clearly you are biting the hand that feeds you.
Why AJ and JA fans have to be arguing all the time? Angie and Jen are not doing so, so why do we keep the insults going? I’m a AJ fan but i like Jen too, I’ve had very good moments watching Friends, I don’t necessarily have to dislike her! And Jen’s fans, you have to assume that Brad and Angie fell in love, and that it! Sure, they didn’t want to hurt Jen, but they couldn’t help it. This is life, and it happens all the time.

Top 10 places to go in 2008
(Yeah!!! Plan a trip to New Orleans in 2008 and don’t forget to donate to the makeitrightnola.org project.)
5. New Orleans
Many have already returned to New Orleans since Katrina, but recent events give every indication that 2008 is poised to be the best year the city has seen since the hurricane. Combine a rebuilding boom with powerhouse couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie moving in to the French Quarter and a revitalized Canal Street beckoning musicians and ramblers back to its pretty riverside promenade, and you’ve got the makings of a fully revitalized city. Plus, with the some of the nation’s most-beloved festivals getting underway in the first part of the year (Mardi Gras in February and Jazz Fest in late April–early May) it’s easy to make the Big Easy a must this year to listen to the best live music around, sample superb Creole cuisine, embrance the fun-loving local attitude, and herald the rebirth of one of the country’s most storied and fascinating cities.

i don’t care about Angelina! But here a lot of people (AJ fans) said a lot of bad things about Madonna. I’m a Madonna fan since I was 11 years old and now I’m 32 so I know her story and her carrer very well. Now Angelina is at the peak of her fame and she can’t do wrong like madonna in the 80’s. Plus only 606 persons made this pool.
SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH.
I do remember reading an article where Sean Penn was talking about an Angelina and Brad before Shiloh’s birth.I didn’t know they know each other. Can someone tell how Angelina became friend with Sean and Robin.was it through Brad or they have known each other before Brad. Can someone help me in this one and where can I find an article about it.thanks in advance.

to the people who say angelina calls attention or holds a press conference, that is part of the point. to shine a light where there is a need. a celebrity name has been used for years to draw attention. if you guys are looking for ANYTHING you can hold on to for criticism, you are going to have to come up with something else. common sense people. angelina joins a long list of people who are willing to use their name to attach to a project to get others involved it really is quite lovely and giving.

The Make it Right project
Like Christo with a cause
Symbolically speaking, no 2007 art experience came close to the stunning “Make It Right” installation of 150 azalea-pink fabric houses that blossomed in December in the Lower 9th Ward.
Actor Brad Pitt envisioned the startlingly rosy houses as symbolic stand-ins for the affordable houses he hopes to see built in their place. At press time, Pitt and company had found individual sponsors for 52 of the $150,000 houses to come. With each sponsorship, one of the scattered pink houses is repositioned near a road and given a roof.
See for yourself. The installation stays in place until Jan. 7. Free self-guided tours begin at the corner of Claiborne Avenue and Reynes Street each day until 10 p.m. I’ve been there twice. Both times I got a glimpse of Pitt. No kidding.

#126: Cause their money hasn’t been matched yet. Remember, as soon as they reach 5 or 10 mil, that’s when they count it in. So far, it’s only been 3.5 collected so by all intents and purposes, only 3.5 has been matched out of the 5 mil.
Janice, darling, the “you people” was directed at the people talking sh*t. - the ones being hateful. Don’t jump to conclusions. I don’t like generalizations much myself. And if you read what I have written, I haven’t said one negative thing about Angelina Jolie. I think it’s admirable what she tries to do, but no more admirable than what anyone else tries to do.

NEW THREAD
http://www.autospies.com/news/Even-Brad-Pitt-has-to-drive-a-minivan-sometimes-24764/
(cute story)
When you think of Hollywood superstars like Brad Pitt it’s virtually impossible to envision him driving a minivan.
A Ferrari, a macho pickup, a Harley…yes.
But a Nissan minivan?
You have got to be kidding us?
But the TV show TMZ has the video evidence of the Brangelina’s hitting a McDonald’s drive through in New Orleans in their minivan.
So guys, moral of the story is…
When your beatiful wife asks you to swallow your pride and get a minivan, even Brad Pitt has to say yes!
#134: I don’t know, #134. Has there been a demand for Madonna’s kid to be seen in public? We’ve seen him out without Madonna so it people don’t recognize the kid with just the nanny, nobody would be taking pictures, would they? Not like when Angie’s kids were out without them, the papz still gave chase.
Lynn, you sure have a lot of pent up anger. it is so funny, because as per your rationale, you dont idolize people you dont know, but you sure are hating people you dont know. are you smart enough to see the hypocrisy in that. but then again probably not, seeing hwo you are so blinded by your hatred for this family, especially angie.
God help you fools who hate with such passion, because i believe wholeheartedly that brad and angie are in this for the long haul, and i would hate to think what that would do to your health.
GO ANGIE!!
Sandra @ 12/28/2007 at 3:19 pm
Thank you, divorces happen, people fall in love , this is the way life is. I do not believe that anyone set out to hurt anyone, but when you fall in love with someone the way Brad and Angelina did, love just can’t be denied (I borrowed Tom Hanks words when asked about how he, a married man with two kids, fell in love with his costar Rita Wilson, and then divorced his wife).
Brad’s words this year on the subject were that he and Jen tried to make their marriage work, they then decided together that the marriage was not working for them. This happens all the time. Jen herself said that they both changed, both, not just one of them, but both. If Jen fans will just take the time to think, the actual legalities of the separation and divorce process was mostly amicable.
Only asset that took time to decide and was drawn out was the disposition of Plan B, and that was because Plan B was career related and would have an effect on their futures. Brad ended up as sole owner of Plan B( a forgone concluson when Brad Grey took over Paramount and Brad got his share of Plan B), Jen took the projects she wanted and a payout, and that was that. The big empty BH house they jointly owned was sold and the proceeds split between them (Brad’s realtor actually found the buyer). There were no long drawn out court battles over other property as each kept most of their property separate.
The 3rd anniversary of the announcement of the end of the marriage will be in less than 2 weeks. People it is time to move on. Jen is not any pitiful little wronged woman like some of you keep insisting she is. She has said she is not part of any Bermuda Triange. There is no reason or proof to believe that Jen is unhappy and miserable in her present life. Some of you keep projecting and substituting your feelings for Jen’s. Every woman does not need a man or children to validate her life. This has got to stop.
Life is what it is. Brad and Angelina have made a life together at this time. They have formed a family with 4 childrren and both say they want more kids. They appear to be very much in love and very much alike in their outlooks on life. Whether they are together for the long or short haul will be their decision, and theirs alone.
Life can be very short, it cannot be predicted. It is a shame to spend much of it ranting and venting filth and lies about the lives of others who you do not even know, while neglecting what should be most important to you, your own life.
JMO.
Ha! @ 12/28/2007 at 3:37 pm
Oh really? Interesting. Well some advice my dear. Perhaps you should be more explicit when making statements and specify the context of your statements as well. As ‘you people’ did sound like a generalization. Being more specific will most certainly help myself and others who might ‘jump to conclusions’ in the future.
Chill.

AA @ 12/28/2007 at 11:49 am The Giving Back 30
List of Largest Charitable Donations
by Celebrities in 2006
================================
This list is inaccurate and very misleading. If you go to the site you can see a long sidebar with all the caveats that accompany these “charitable donations.”
For instance, if a bequest is made in a will and announced during 2006 then it is counted. However, that isn’t giving anything away until you’re dead. There are serious issues with Tiger Woods’ donations since they mostly consist of his foundations which collect a lot of money but only end up donating a tiny fraction to any charitable work. Tiger’s money mostly goes to funding “charitable” golf tournaments with very lucrative purses for the winning golfers.
So needless to say you need to read that list with a very jaundiced eye.
Similarly that list that Jennifer Anniston is on merely lists any organization with which she had even the most tenuous relationships. For instance, one of the charitable organizations received an autographed picture from Aniston’s publicist, so that is counted as a “charity she supports.” You’ll note we never hear what she does for any of them.
I personally think that Jennifer, in her neuroses, feels that she’ll look like she’s copying Brad and Angelina by becoming seriously involved in any charity. Her image is so important to her that I think she is blinded by that and she ends up looking worse. Who cares if she looks like that as long as the work gets done and people benefit.
In any event, it’s nice to hear kind words about those that do help. I have no reason to doubt Madonna’s motivations. Even if I did have reason, I wouldn’t question any efforts by her. It is all good.
Advice taken - I went back and re-read what I wrote and understand the confusion. Believe me, I have no problem with the people who come in and have positive things to say about the subjects of the blogs. The hate just becomes toxic after a while; ironic considering the subject of this particular thread.

For your unforlation I am portguese angolan dutch and congolese by background. I know in my flesh, family how it works down there.
I used to work with the medecins sans frontières (doctors without borders) with rape and HIV victims and the killings at noights by rebels on those refugee camps and knows folks on my own family striken woth malaria and deasaese.
Madonna did her project like a rich woman, not in the mud, not even out of pure compassion. she used the so called good punctual actions as a bribe tool…she did it because she needed to promote her image to secure the adoption of her son…hence she only went and speak for projects in THAT country alone ! You don’t see her goes elesewhere in the poorest countries or in the southern part of Africa where refugees full of haids orphans are there and you have to witness day after day the daying of little ones while staying strong.
I respect angie , she is a sincere person ,so is madonna.. what have madonna done wrong? this is so unfair
i hope the people here who are criticising angie, saying that she does what she does for PR, also criticise oprah, because she has been known to devote a whole show to highlight her charitable contributions. just saying. fair is fair, right?
they’re all bums, the un needs done away with. they should all pack up and stay out of the united states, stop making your fortune here then running off all over the place like your better then everyone.

We are banned?
You know something? I think it’s downright annoying to constantly evaluate leading stars against one woman who has become the Internet’s everyday obsession thanks to her involvement with Brad Pitt. Yeah, guys, I can hear you getting mad but it’s true – if it wasn’t for the romantic aura that Brad gave her, she would be getting an occasional credit for her work but not adored. It is annoying when leading stars are frequently compared (to their detriment) with Angelina Jolie – this spectacle has been going on for three years now and it is annoying. I think Madonna definitely wanted good things for that little boy from Malawi and pictures show he is genuinely loved, not used. And yes, Mr Walker (whoever you are and wherever you came from), people aren’t stupid. They definitely sense when something is overdone and start looking for something less overdone. I don’t mind reading that Angelina is a real humanitarian but it invariably gets my goat to read that no-one is that real. She might even be the most sincere celebrity in history but who cares if we have it rammed into our heads every day? Comparisons like that insult, humiliate and downplay the efforts of other people. “And there was no celebrity goodness in the world before Angelina Jolie …” Should we add that to the Bible? I guess we should. Not that it’s true but so many people spend their days believing it that I guess we should. After all, the Bible is a book about belief, not facts, so Santa Angelina’s place is right there.
Madonna has been promoting AIDS awareness since as soon as she became famous. Shes working with an entire country Malawi for peet sakes,

It sounds as if you have your own agenda to promote. Just because you don’t want to believe that Angelina is sincere in the work she does for the UNHCR, doesn’t mean she isn’t.
I have no problem with Madonna; I respect the work she has done on behalf of HIV victims. She seems to be a very good mother to her adopted son. And at least she is doing something constructive to help other people, unlike other celebrities who talk the talk but can’t be bothered to walk the walk.
Lynn @ 12/28/2007 at 2:28 pm
Ya know AJ fans are the most hateful people I’ve met on the web, AJ should be so proud!!!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SAYING THIS! I have felt this way since I started coming to this site. I often have so many questions to ask these people about their muse however, I have seen people who post the most innocuous questions get torn apart by these “fans”. For the life of me, I cannot figure out what phenomenon is occuring here-are they insecure, are they overcompensating, are they phonies, are they ignorant, are they full of themselves….I don’t know. But, what I do know is that these threads are not fun, educational, or interesting with these people on board. They become pathetic outlets for deranged fanatics-a circus of hate.
Banned!
Furthermore, the only reason why Reuters has these polls is to determine which celebrity is leading the popularity contest with the public which therefore makes them more bankable. Wake up people!
A poll is not an accurate way of determining how much these people have actually contributed to causes. It is more of a popularity contest and is often driven by biased opinions as people are most likely to vote fore their favourite celebrities and shun those they dislike (not that Don, Brad and Angelina don’t deserve credibility for their work).
So actually Peter Walker, Director of Feinstein International Famine Centre people ARE stupid because they will believe anything the media feeds them including ‘claims’ that Madonna tampered with the adoption of her son by using her fame when infact it’s been officialised that this was not the case. In fact, people are so narrow minded that they use this lame media attempt to create a story to determine their vote and they’ve completely overlooked all the work Madonna has done in Malawi beyond the adoption. So how dare you praise one person’s cause and put down another’s when ALL these causes are important and worthwhile.
Furthermore, to the anonymous voter who wrote, “Madonna seems to do philanthropy the way she’s done Indian culture, sex and just about everything — like a disposable fad.” What does any of this have to do with charity work? You’ve just helped me prove my point.
Look at all the cowards crawling out of their holes to post vile degrading crap. Not man enough to post on the thread(s) when the fans are there!
To David even with everthing you listed Angelina is still a better person than you will ever be. Now suck on that A$$hole.

Your hatred and your animated choice of words to describe Angelina are…quite unique. For a second, I thought you were describing anger towards a pedophile, … maybe a mass murderer?
But no,instead you are spitting at someone who is recognized for her undisputed and endless, apparently, work raising concerns and speaking out about the atrocities currently in practice against a forgotten people. Angelina is certainly NOT the first nor will be the last to advocate for the spirit of the poor and insignificant. Angelina has proven that her voice and her fame can be put to good use and can affect change. Will she stop the killing or the wars? Probably not, but she can educate you with her words, take out the negative stigma typically associated with adoption, help us view “orphans” with a gentler perspective, reconsider the value of being kinder to people from all nations and potentially see the benefit of changing how we treat “foreigners.”
She walks the walk as well as talks the talk. This is very hard to do. In life I try to focus on the big picture, I suggest you do the same.
She is recognized for her work outside of Hollywood because people in the know know exactly how dangerous it is to do what she has been doing for years. It takes a lot of passion and courage, with the level of which most of us simply do not possess.
Madonna is FAKE. She went and bought off the Malawian government to buy a baby, against his fathers wishes. Madonna is a real B*TCH for doing that.
Angelina is a compassionate person without a cause… her charity begins with her heart…
Ditto on the voter who wrote such a lucid statement re: Madonna… FAKE, FAKE, FAKE… there’s not much substance behind all the well engineered facades…

Exactly, Everything Madonna does is for attention/publicity. She had no rights to circumvent the adoption laws of Malawi, but money can corrupt government officials.
It doesn’t matter if the adoptive mother is Angelina, Madonna or any other person. Adopt a child is an act of love and should be admired for all of us.
Congratulations to all those who try to make a difference doing something for the others.

So what if Madonna focuses her efforts on Malawi? Is it wrong for her to want to help the country in which ner adoptive child was born? How does this make the cause of any less importance? Shame on you for trying to belittle someones efforts.
And to those who are still beeing spoon fed stories about the adoption being manipulated, you are clearly all gullible fools.
They both talk the talk, walk the walk and do the do. God, bless both M and A and family.
This is the sort of poll I like to see Angelina and Brad winning. It’s great news. Angelina and Brad are right on the money when they said that integrity will shine through though it may take a while to do so. Angelina has been an activist since 2001 when she was only 26 years old. She is now 32 which means that she has been active in humanitarian work for more than 6 years, which is about 1/5th of her life. She speaks with great care on the highly complex issues she encounters in her humanitarian work.
I actually don’t have any problems with what Madonna has done in Malawi. I say good for her and I hope she keeps it up. I firmly believe we should give Madonna the benefit of the doubt in this. People change and Madonna, the material girl, seems to have evolved into Madonna mother of 3. Good for her.
Congrats Brad and Angie and to the other do gooders!
MORE LOVE AND BLESSINGS TO THE JOLIEPITT
HAPPY NEW YEAR BAMPSZ AND BAMPSZ FANS! WISH YOU ALL THE BEST NEXT YEAR!
Do you remember when Angelina kissed her brother on a red carpet? Do you know that Madonna created a foundation for Malawi? Do you remember when Brad cheated on Jenifer because of Angelina? Angelina is not a Saint so please have some respect for Madonna !!!!
Peace.
Some people are in fact stupid.
Angelina seems to do philanthropy the way she’s done drugs, sex in motels, french kissing her brother in front of cameras and just about everything — like a disposable fad. Even her looks are fake. And she has increased her income significantly since stealing a man and pretending to do good. Evil hypocritical person made her way.
some plain facts @ 12/28/2007 at 3:56 pm
Thanks to you, very beautiful post. :)
I Couldn’t Agree More! @ 12/28/2007 at 5:36 pm
Please, don’t generalize, you’re being unfair.
dita @ 12/29/2007 at 7:42 am
I respect Madonna a lot, and i’m sorry for some comments i’m reading about her. Anyway, I recommend you to read what some plain facts @ 12/28/2007 at 3:56 pm wrote, and maybe you can also try to respect Angelina and Brad a little bit.
******* around pays off.
not deceivable @ 12/29/2007 at 7:56 am
Do you know what a french kiss is? It seems to me you don’t know, as that kiss with her brother was a plain kiss on the lips…
As for sex in motels, where you there with her??
Come on, people who criticize her for “bad behaviour” some years ago must be angelical and never commited a sin (sure)
Sorry for my english
Not Deceivable
Indeed, you are deceived. You are a selfish, self-absorbed, spoiled American who refuse to open their eyes and understand that while we live in a safe environment, there are millions of people who live under the most insane, inhumane conditions that NEED OUR HELP. A poor person in the U.S. is not the same as a poor person living in a third world country.
Angelina is also an activist, and not just a philanthropist. The type of work that Angelina has accomplished over the past 6 YEARS, including the TIME BEFORE she met Brad, is time- consuming, heart-felt, dangerous work. I am telling you from experience. Remember Daniel Pearl? He was the Jewish American journalist that was beheaded and whose body was subsequently cut up into ten pieces as a result of trying to get information back to the United States about terrorism. There are countless other “soldiers” that have risked their lives trying to educate smug people just like you, trying to get you to understand and CARE about the violent acts against basic human rights that you so callously take for granted. It’s a wonder that she has yet been physically hurt.
Obviously, she is not a saint and she has repreatedly been upfront about her past…and can STILL find the courage to do what she has been doing. How does your character measure up? Are you strong enough, let alone motivated, to help someone who is in danger at the risk of your own life that is not related to you? Or do your self-absorbed ways blind you to the concept that there exists human beings that are capable of this level of human service and sacrifice such that when evidence presents in abundance, you cannot see it?
How dare you criticize her or anyone who fights the global war on terrorism that most are afraid to fight?
Madonna didn’t give any interview since the adoption, she went in Malawi in april to open a children care centre for 4000 kids and many more projects (also with Doctor J.Sach) but she dind’t give any press release or interview or photo shoot so most of people even don’t know about her charity work and they judge her only for what they read on silly tabloids. in next months Madonna will present her documentary “Iambecauseweare” about malawian orphans, I hope she’ll give a lot of interviews so mAybe people will change their opinion. and if in 5 years Madonna will still help Malawi nobody can say she makes it for publicity. Madonna said she want to go in malawi every year to follow her projects and I belive in her!!!!
SORRY FOR MY BAD ENGLISH.

Oh yes madonna is only the most succesfull female singer of all time, her last tour was the most succesfull by a female singer, next march she’ll be introducted in the R&R Hall of Fame….. yes you’re right Madonna need attention a publicity.
Instead Angelina and Brad: A Mighty Heart FLOP, the Assasination of JJ FLOP; beowulf FLOP, oh they don’t need publicity and attention at all they are so succesfull!!!!! In fact Madonna doesn’t give any interview because she doesn’t need, Brad and Angelinave give 10 interviews per week! AJ fans are the most hateful people in the world
Francophile @ 12/28/2007 at 4:28 pm 189
you are only a poor ignorant! madonna went 3 times in malawi, the first time nobody knew she went, the second time she went for almost 2 weeks and she took David and last april she went back with Lourdes and David and she didn’t spend her time dancing and smiling but she visited all her projects: a millenium village, a children care centre, clinics, nursery and many many more. But I say again time will say the truth
——
The only ignorant is you !
———————————————————————————————-
Madonna goES only in Malawi because she really wants to help this poor country, she’s not a UN Ambassador so I don’t understand why she has to go in all the poor countries. madonna went in Malawi with her own projects and she fund Raisingmalawi in 2005 and she adopted David in october 2006 YOU’RE THE IGNORANT ABOUT MADONNA.
Plus Madonna doesn’t help only Malawi she gave milions of dollars for AIDS, Cancer to the AmFar , to the UNICEF etc etc
IGNORANT
Electra, honey, relax a little, so much excitement musn’t be good for your health
awww look at the poster Electra lose it’s mind. Let it go troll nothing you post here will change any of our minds nor the people that response to the poll.
Madonna has been supporting and donating to charities WAY BEFORE it was “fashionable” to do so. In the beginning, part of Angie’s agenda with her “doing-good” was to erase the public’s memories of her being aslut, a cutter, a man-stealer, a drug-abuser, a vampire, and general all-around nutcase. Now, she’s into it and that’s great however, whether you are doing good OR bad, when you do it and say it in front of the camera, it becomes part of what defines you in the public’s eye. The public perception of this woman is key since it is the PUBLIC who determine the degree of success of her films. Madonna had many friends in the 80’s who died of AIDS and she was one of the first celebrities of her stature to quietly and diligently support the cause. I think ANY POLL that would put Madonna’s long-standing contributions to several charities at the bottom of a list, is inherently FLAWED.
You Go Angelina, You are truly the real deal, Your fans already knew it. Keep on doing all the good that you are doing.. We love ya
Castles Made Of Sand @ 12/29/2007 at 12:18 pm
Get real, honey. Angelina doesn’t give a damn what anybody thinks about her, including you. If her humanitarian activities were a fad, she would have given them up a long time ago for something that is less stressful and more comfortable. And what have you done lately besides piss and moan on this thread?
Jill @ 12/29/2007 at 1:15 pm
Get real, honey. Angelina doesn’t give a damn what anybody thinks about her
Ahhhh Jill, your ignorance knows no bounds.
“The public perception of this woman is key since it is the PUBLIC who determine the degree of success of her films.”
This fight over who is more humanitarian and who’s not is starting to be quite a NONSENSE. Instead of wasting time arguing, we should follow the example of Angelina, Madonna… etc, and do something for others. For me, Angelina is a good example, I don’t are about what some are saying about her, and whoever one’s do-gooder favourite celebrity is we should take example, and not fight over it. So, happy holidays, peace, and sorry for me english
Castles Made Of Sand @ 12/29/2007 at 12:18 pm
Castles, I don’t remember Angelina ever saying she got into humanitarian work to improve her image, even “in the beginning.” Please don’t write that as if it’s a fact. It promotes misunderstanding, just as you wouldn’t want others to think Madonna does charity for Malawi to improve her image there.
And agree with Sandra, humanitarianism is NOT a competition. All these lists are stupid!
I agree w/ skl: these lists are STUPID. Why must everything be a competition? And if it is going to be turned into a competition the least they could do is get facts straight. As Castle mentioned, Madonna has donated millions upon millions (especially for AIDS) without seeking publicity for it and she did starting in the late 80s before it became “cool” or “popular.”
Nice, affirming even, that an well-respected news organization like Reuters recognizes and honors the altruism of Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt and others. But, it served no purpose whatsoever for their spokesperson to diss Madonna. Why the invidious comparisons? All who give should be honored .
The world is in a terrible turmoil - war, starvation, disease, drought, flooding, fire. . . . To make a difference, we’re all going to have to pitch in. The world is going to hell, and there isn’t much time. Instead of speculating about folks’ motivations for giving, give something yourself. Leave what’s in peoples’ hearts to God. Believe me, just as God knows Angie, Madonna, Oprah, and Jennifer intimately, she knows the evil lurking in the hateful hearts of all you childish, ignorant posters who’re driven mad by their acts of compassion and generosity.
Thank you, Jared, for keeping it real. Blessings on you and all the Jolie-Pitt fans I meet here.
May we all resolve to commit more acts of kindness during 2008.
I like these two fine, but I am HORRIFIED that she beat out Archbishop Desmond Tutu for humanitarian of the year! The man won a Nobel Peace Prize at the height of the apartheid struggle! Americans are ridiculous (and yes, I’m one too, and part and party to the ridiculousness).
GOD ALWAYS BLESS ANGELINA JOLIE AND HER JOLIE-PITT FAMILY.
Very well deserve! Just saw “A Mighty Heart!” An outstanding performance by Angie. I hope she takes home the Gold.
I’m so proud of her - this is a very deserving honor. I feel like Madonna gets a bad rap, though. She loves her precious son and is providing him with a very amazing life. She deserves respect, in my book.
I don’t understand “least respected” altruist. As long as someone takes the time to do something, they should be praised, not criticized. It seems like ranking and scoffing at people who try and help defeats the whole purpose of good will. Whoever made this list is arguably worse than someone who does charity work to “improve their image” (which is silly accusation, because at this point, what does Madonna or Oprah even care what we think of them).

I thought I was on first page but somehow my initial post got lost, so I’m posting again.
I think Brad and Angie gave more than the amount mentioned.
They do not only support by giving their time but they also share their income to a lot of charities.
The trolls and haters claim that they just do it for publicity. Well, the paps are the ones chasing them for their own material gain. The tabloids write ridiculous articles about them. They even pester them and the kids. They don’t need publicity anymore because they are the most sought after family on this planet. We even wished they should be given more privacy. I will always love and admire them for their unselfish attitude to people in need especially the children. More power BAMPZS!
There is nothing Fake about Angelina, this woman is the real deal, even if she wears extensions for roles or highligts her hair, she is totally authentic, she walks to her own drummer that is for sure. She is real. I think Madonna was real at one time, but then she seemed to end up doing things just too shock and it lost her some authenticity. Go Angie.
Good job Angie, keep to do best thing for humanitarianism
i’m always BAMPZS fans forever
Hey i glaub des is des erste deutsche Kommentar auf der Seite
Mia Farrow and Madonna are sincere and valuable. They are the true winners! They deserve all prizes. BUT: who said it’s a competition?!? If you do something straight from your heart you do not think of being photographed and compared to someone, right?! AJ is NOT a gooddoer, but a POSER, a photography and fame lover!
One of my favorite ladies. A real women WHO CAN SIT ON MY FACE ANYTIME.
