Angelina Jolie is a Celebrity Do-Gooder

Angelina Jolie is a Celebrity Do-Gooder

Angelina Jolie recently topped Reuters’ celebrity do-gooder poll for both her work as a U.N. goodwill ambassador and raising awareness of suffering in Africa.

On the bottom of the list? Fellow adoptive mother Madonna! The Queen of Pop was voted the least respected celebrity altruist of 2007 because of claims she used her fame and wealth to circumvent Malawian adoption rules.

“People aren’t stupid,” said Peter Walker, director of the Feinstein International Famine Center at Tufts University. “They can really sense when it’s just an endorsement and when somebody really means it. Someone like Angelina Jolie comes across as having more integrity than some celebrities and a greater sense that she doesn’t just do this for the publicity.”

One voter in the poll hurled quite the insult: “Madonna seems to do philanthropy the way she’s done Indian culture, sex and just about everything — like a disposable fad.”

Ouch!

Brad Pitt, Mia Farrow and Don Cheadle also won praise for their advocacy on behalf of Sudan’s war-torn Darfur region.

Although it is nice to do things from your heart, lets not lose sight of the fact that regardless of the reasons people do things, things are still getting done and people out there are benefiting. at the end of the day, there is a little selfishness (and desire for praise) in everyone of us but it is minor when you think about the people who are or can benefit.

Totally a well deserved accolade.

Cheers Angelina and Brad! :)

I just caught up with all the threads I missed since before Christmas.
Wow Jared! You certainly keep up to date!
Thanks.
Very grateful.
Awesome pics and articles.

So in the spirit of this thread I would like to remind those charitable fans (and haters/trolls - c’mon, i bet it’ll hardly pinch your pockets) to please donate to Brad’s worthy cause:

For those who are eagerly awaiting the availability of the absolutely must-have pink tote bag, it will soon be available by the first week of January ‘08!

What’s even more amazing about that tote bag? It will be made out of the material that they used for the current pink exhibit. Check out their website to learn more.

Good day to all!

Peace!

Go Angie! Forever your fan!

It is quite funny how you guys judge people you don’t know, jen does not need to justify her actions or her work to any of you guys, what is the point of this list really bcos i just don’t get it, many people give , jen as been an advocate for st jude’s for over 7years now and her campaining with other celebrities has raised millions of money but you all would never say that bcos it is less worthy trust me it isn’t bcos

I have seen cancer fiRst hand(AFFECTS PEOPLE FROM THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES TOO) and they come to st jude’s bcos of the finances that are raised by people like jen and other people whom support)and i know what it does, and you guys can hate jen despise her call her names but never lie bcos it makes you all look stupid.

Jen is stingy blah blah it is getting sad now , leave her alone and let her be and stop calling her names or other people for that matter it is childish and ignorant, and if the people whom wrote this article really cared why don’t they use the money for better things or writing about the plight of the poor , this article will not add or subtract from the lives of those whom need helping it won’t.
I hope people keep on giving in any way they can bcos a life is changed by every little that is done and everyone deserves to be acknowledged.
Sorry for my ranting but hte truth neeeds to be told and most of you pick on jen just to cause trouble.

Where’s Sir Elton John on that list?

Elton John AIDS Foundation Mission:
To provide funding for educational programs targeted at HIV/AIDS prevention and/or the elimination of prejudice and discrimination against HIV/AIDS-affected individuals, and for programs that provide services to people living with or at risk for HIV/AIDS

Some of you are just amazingly DENSE!

You NEVER miss to jump on any NONSENSICAL few
words of a few morons that basically waste their time ANYWAYS.

Then YOU start to talk about that HOMELY, FUGLY FRAUD and
LIAR and a LOSER of the century that is Maniston. WHO the
he*ll cares but YOU! NOBODY but YOU!

GOT IT?!

REMEMBER!
That’s NORMAL and it ALWAYS happens when somebody is at
the TOP as Angie is.

You even bring that TRASHY email over here!

Now we just NEED from you to bring some HATING on
Brad Pitt over here - that shouldn’t be difficult to find.

Go ahead! And don’t forget to mention the shells of their exes!

Thats Wonderful News, But We Fans Knew that..
Thanks JJ.

rhymes with witch @ 12/28/2007 at 12:04 pm

gee, that was a no brainer. like her or not, angie is serious about philanthropy. madge, not so much. they should rename their poll “people aren’t as stupid as Madonna’s P.R. staff thinks”.

did madonna just edge out j aniston??

Angelina has been philanthropic and a humanitarian for a good while now. It’s not news but this is great for people who are cluless about her works.

Missouri Fan @ 12/28/2007 at 12:08 pm

Congrats Angelina!!
You are the Chosen One for this Generation!!
I always pray for you and your family- the Jolie- Pitt’s.

Angelina is Brad's woman @ 12/28/2007 at 12:11 pm

Can you all see why Brad was smitten by Angelina? Compared to her, that other one he was with was like a sad sack of potatoes.

to Sam/bet @ 12/28/2007 at 12:11 pm

Yes, Jen filmed a commercial for Sait Jude. That’s all !!! Do we see anything more other than the commercial? NO !!! How much time did she spend in filming this 2 minute commercial? LITTLE !!

Did Jen give a lot of money, NOTHING , to the point that it’s embarrassing to mention it.

Dont tell me she does it quietly. Everything a celebrity done is published. All her moves, are reported in the media.

Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Bono etc donations are published.

Densel Washington recently gave 1 million to some debating team, it was reported and broadcasted on extra TV. Julia Roberts, Rosie gave 1 million to the Katrina disaster, and was reported. …..

Sam, you cant fix this for Jen. Just go and tell her to OPEN HER PURSE !!!

#71: Is it really that impossible to give without the media knowing? Maybe we should give Jennifer Aniston the benefit of the doubt. Now, I am not a faniston, far from it, but maybe in our zeal to put Angie up we are demonizing Aniston too much. Maybe she does more for St. Jude than a 1-minute TV commercial. Then again, maybe not. My point is, who really knows?
