Angelina Jolie is a Celebrity Do-Gooder

Angelina Jolie recently topped Reuters’ celebrity do-gooder poll for both her work as a U.N. goodwill ambassador and raising awareness of suffering in Africa.

On the bottom of the list? Fellow adoptive mother Madonna! The Queen of Pop was voted the least respected celebrity altruist of 2007 because of claims she used her fame and wealth to circumvent Malawian adoption rules.

“People aren’t stupid,” said Peter Walker, director of the Feinstein International Famine Center at Tufts University. “They can really sense when it’s just an endorsement and when somebody really means it. Someone like Angelina Jolie comes across as having more integrity than some celebrities and a greater sense that she doesn’t just do this for the publicity.”

One voter in the poll hurled quite the insult: “Madonna seems to do philanthropy the way she’s done Indian culture, sex and just about everything — like a disposable fad.”

Ouch!

Brad Pitt, Mia Farrow and Don Cheadle also won praise for their advocacy on behalf of Sudan’s war-torn Darfur region.

to the people who say angelina calls attention or holds a press conference, that is part of the point. to shine a light where there is a need. a celebrity name has been used for years to draw attention. if you guys are looking for ANYTHING you can hold on to for criticism, you are going to have to come up with something else. common sense people. angelina joins a long list of people who are willing to use their name to attach to a project to get others involved it really is quite lovely and giving.

I’ve never been to New Orleans but I would to take a trip down to take in some of the food and the culture.

Like Christo with a cause

Symbolically speaking, no 2007 art experience came close to the stunning “Make It Right” installation of 150 azalea-pink fabric houses that blossomed in December in the Lower 9th Ward.

Actor Brad Pitt envisioned the startlingly rosy houses as symbolic stand-ins for the affordable houses he hopes to see built in their place. At press time, Pitt and company had found individual sponsors for 52 of the $150,000 houses to come. With each sponsorship, one of the scattered pink houses is repositioned near a road and given a roof.

See for yourself. The installation stays in place until Jan. 7. Free self-guided tours begin at the corner of Claiborne Avenue and Reynes Street each day until 10 p.m. I’ve been there twice. Both times I got a glimpse of Pitt. No kidding.

#126: Cause their money hasn’t been matched yet. Remember, as soon as they reach 5 or 10 mil, that’s when they count it in. So far, it’s only been 3.5 collected so by all intents and purposes, only 3.5 has been matched out of the 5 mil.

Janice, darling, the “you people” was directed at the people talking sh*t. - the ones being hateful. Don’t jump to conclusions. I don’t like generalizations much myself. And if you read what I have written, I haven’t said one negative thing about Angelina Jolie. I think it’s admirable what she tries to do, but no more admirable than what anyone else tries to do.

Geez, “Question” it’s pretty obvious Electra was being sarcastic.

(cute story)
When you think of Hollywood superstars like Brad Pitt it’s virtually impossible to envision him driving a minivan.
A Ferrari, a macho pickup, a Harley…yes.
But a Nissan minivan?
You have got to be kidding us?
But the TV show TMZ has the video evidence of the Brangelina’s hitting a McDonald’s drive through in New Orleans in their minivan.
So guys, moral of the story is…
When your beatiful wife asks you to swallow your pride and get a minivan, even Brad Pitt has to say yes!

#134: I don’t know, #134. Has there been a demand for Madonna’s kid to be seen in public? We’ve seen him out without Madonna so it people don’t recognize the kid with just the nanny, nobody would be taking pictures, would they? Not like when Angie’s kids were out without them, the papz still gave chase.

Lynn, you sure have a lot of pent up anger. it is so funny, because as per your rationale, you dont idolize people you dont know, but you sure are hating people you dont know. are you smart enough to see the hypocrisy in that. but then again probably not, seeing hwo you are so blinded by your hatred for this family, especially angie.

God help you fools who hate with such passion, because i believe wholeheartedly that brad and angie are in this for the long haul, and i would hate to think what that would do to your health.

GO ANGIE!!

Thank you, divorces happen, people fall in love , this is the way life is. I do not believe that anyone set out to hurt anyone, but when you fall in love with someone the way Brad and Angelina did, love just can’t be denied (I borrowed Tom Hanks words when asked about how he, a married man with two kids, fell in love with his costar Rita Wilson, and then divorced his wife).

Brad’s words this year on the subject were that he and Jen tried to make their marriage work, they then decided together that the marriage was not working for them. This happens all the time. Jen herself said that they both changed, both, not just one of them, but both. If Jen fans will just take the time to think, the actual legalities of the separation and divorce process was mostly amicable.

Only asset that took time to decide and was drawn out was the disposition of Plan B, and that was because Plan B was career related and would have an effect on their futures. Brad ended up as sole owner of Plan B( a forgone concluson when Brad Grey took over Paramount and Brad got his share of Plan B), Jen took the projects she wanted and a payout, and that was that. The big empty BH house they jointly owned was sold and the proceeds split between them (Brad’s realtor actually found the buyer). There were no long drawn out court battles over other property as each kept most of their property separate.

The 3rd anniversary of the announcement of the end of the marriage will be in less than 2 weeks. People it is time to move on. Jen is not any pitiful little wronged woman like some of you keep insisting she is. She has said she is not part of any Bermuda Triange. There is no reason or proof to believe that Jen is unhappy and miserable in her present life. Some of you keep projecting and substituting your feelings for Jen’s. Every woman does not need a man or children to validate her life. This has got to stop.

Life is what it is. Brad and Angelina have made a life together at this time. They have formed a family with 4 childrren and both say they want more kids. They appear to be very much in love and very much alike in their outlooks on life. Whether they are together for the long or short haul will be their decision, and theirs alone.

Life can be very short, it cannot be predicted. It is a shame to spend much of it ranting and venting filth and lies about the lives of others who you do not even know, while neglecting what should be most important to you, your own life.

JMO.

Oh really? Interesting. Well some advice my dear. Perhaps you should be more explicit when making statements and specify the context of your statements as well. As ‘you people’ did sound like a generalization. Being more specific will most certainly help myself and others who might ‘jump to conclusions’ in the future.

Ha! @ 12/28/2007 at 4:00 pm

I’m more than ‘chill’ just imparting some friendly advice that’s all. LOL.

AA @ 12/28/2007 at 11:49 am The Giving Back 30
List of Largest Charitable Donations
by Celebrities in 2006

================================

This list is inaccurate and very misleading. If you go to the site you can see a long sidebar with all the caveats that accompany these “charitable donations.”

For instance, if a bequest is made in a will and announced during 2006 then it is counted. However, that isn’t giving anything away until you’re dead. There are serious issues with Tiger Woods’ donations since they mostly consist of his foundations which collect a lot of money but only end up donating a tiny fraction to any charitable work. Tiger’s money mostly goes to funding “charitable” golf tournaments with very lucrative purses for the winning golfers.

So needless to say you need to read that list with a very jaundiced eye.

Similarly that list that Jennifer Anniston is on merely lists any organization with which she had even the most tenuous relationships. For instance, one of the charitable organizations received an autographed picture from Aniston’s publicist, so that is counted as a “charity she supports.” You’ll note we never hear what she does for any of them.

I personally think that Jennifer, in her neuroses, feels that she’ll look like she’s copying Brad and Angelina by becoming seriously involved in any charity. Her image is so important to her that I think she is blinded by that and she ends up looking worse. Who cares if she looks like that as long as the work gets done and people benefit.

In any event, it’s nice to hear kind words about those that do help. I have no reason to doubt Madonna’s motivations. Even if I did have reason, I wouldn’t question any efforts by her. It is all good.

Advice taken - I went back and re-read what I wrote and understand the confusion. Believe me, I have no problem with the people who come in and have positive things to say about the subjects of the blogs. The hate just becomes toxic after a while; ironic considering the subject of this particular thread.

you are only a poor ignorant! madonna went 3 times in malawi, the first time nobody knew she went, the second time she went for almost 2 weeks and she took David and last april she went back with Lourdes and David and she didn’t spend her time dancing and smiling but she visited all her projects: a millenium village, a children care centre, clinics, nursery and many many more. But I say again time will say the truth

——

The only ignorant is you !

For your unforlation I am portguese angolan dutch and congolese by background. I know in my flesh, family how it works down there.

I used to work with the medecins sans frontières (doctors without borders) with rape and HIV victims and the killings at noights by rebels on those refugee camps and knows folks on my own family striken woth malaria and deasaese.

Madonna did her project like a rich woman, not in the mud, not even out of pure compassion. she used the so called good punctual actions as a bribe tool…she did it because she needed to promote her image to secure the adoption of her son…hence she only went and speak for projects in THAT country alone ! You don’t see her goes elesewhere in the poorest countries or in the southern part of Africa where refugees full of haids orphans are there and you have to witness day after day the daying of little ones while staying strong.

I respect angie , she is a sincere person ,so is madonna.. what have madonna done wrong? this is so unfair

dianad1968 @ 12/28/2007 at 4:32 pm

i hope the people here who are criticising angie, saying that she does what she does for PR, also criticise oprah, because she has been known to devote a whole show to highlight her charitable contributions. just saying. fair is fair, right?

You know something? I think it’s downright annoying to constantly evaluate leading stars against one woman who has become the Internet’s everyday obsession thanks to her involvement with Brad Pitt. Yeah, guys, I can hear you getting mad but it’s true – if it wasn’t for the romantic aura that Brad gave her, she would be getting an occasional credit for her work but not adored. It is annoying when leading stars are frequently compared (to their detriment) with Angelina Jolie – this spectacle has been going on for three years now and it is annoying. I think Madonna definitely wanted good things for that little boy from Malawi and pictures show he is genuinely loved, not used. And yes, Mr Walker (whoever you are and wherever you came from), people aren’t stupid. They definitely sense when something is overdone and start looking for something less overdone. I don’t mind reading that Angelina is a real humanitarian but it invariably gets my goat to read that no-one is that real. She might even be the most sincere celebrity in history but who cares if we have it rammed into our heads every day? Comparisons like that insult, humiliate and downplay the efforts of other people. “And there was no celebrity goodness in the world before Angelina Jolie …” Should we add that to the Bible? I guess we should. Not that it’s true but so many people spend their days believing it that I guess we should. After all, the Bible is a book about belief, not facts, so Santa Angelina’s place is right there.

Madonna has been promoting AIDS awareness since as soon as she became famous. Shes working with an entire country Malawi for peet sakes,
