Alex, do you know how many people I had to explain the black eyed peas to? Our younger folks have not a clue! Remember put a dried one in your wallet for money luck in the coming year!
kelly marie - what exactly is a furlough? You seem to be pretty familiar with the whole rehab thing…
Andrómeda I’m doing wonderful! Thank you for the well wishes! I hope your year is filled with happiness! Last year was a bit trying for you, this year I wish you nothing but good and wonderful things!
Sheri - black eyed pea thing? I blame my lack of knowledge about that on being a ‘Canadian sista’. Do tell! :-)

Coal, I am glad to hear that you had a wonderful Christmas with your mom, it must be so nice to spend that time with her. My mom lives in NY, so I don’t get to see her much. That is cool that your friend is coming to visit you, have fun with your friend. It will be just me and my bf on NYE and some netflix rentals lol
Missouri Fan *hugs* Glad you heard from NYL. That Lechon sounds good :-) What do you have planned for NYE? I think the JP’s may be in your state to ring in the new year too!
Hey Coal, Happy New Year and many more to come. :)
Thanks Alex. I don’t get to see my Mom much either so I know how you feel! It was really good to get some quality time with her without a family crisis interrupting (it’s just been that kind of year! LOL) Your plans for NYE sound cozy :D I will be doing some similar snuggling too ;-) tee hee Lucky us!
coal: you spent X´mas with your mother?, lovely!!…and champagne for New Year sounds excellent. All my best wishes for you and your family for the next year.
sheri: yes, thank God finally this year is ending… and thank you for your wishes. Hope you have a wonderful 2008 too!!

Oh wow, I had forgot all about hoppin’ john. My moms used to make it every year on new year’s eve. Seems like young folks have lost all the culture.
coal, black eyed peas and rice is a staple with southern people, mostly black. Brings good things in the New Year. My great grandmother always told us to put a dried pea in our wallets for financial luck in the New Year! Its a tradition that has been around for, oh lord ever! There are certain things you serve for good luck, roast pork, black eyed peas and rice (hoppin john) greens, corn bread all to greet the New Year and bring good fortune!

Are you kidding? You have to explain to people about black eyed peas, well I shouldn’t say anything cause I had to do the same to my bf lol, and I just told him that we have to go to the supermarket tomorrow after work to get some. I just can’t believe that some people don’t know about black eyed peas . I know about cooking black eyed peas on New Year day since I was a child, but I did not know about putting a dried one in my wallet, thanks for the tip :)
Hi Coal, Guli, Sheri, MF, Jill, Andromeda and Alexanderina - thanks for the shout out Coal….
Sorry, I’ve been in hibernation which I really needed. Having to celebrate christmas in two different places at the same day - from two different families, was such an exhausting event for me. It totally wiped me out.
How are you guys doing? Guli was right, last night was a bit too much to deal with about Shiloh- But of course, the trolls were ridiculed left and right by the JP fans, so that was a good thing.
New Year’s celebration for me and hubby is going to be totally sedate…
Andromeda - you too! We both deserve better years! 2008 will be good :D
Sheri and Alex - thanks for the info. It’s neat to learn about different traditions and I will have to try out the the black eyed pea in the wallet and see if it works. Now Sheri, about that dinner… you just might have to hunt down some dry ice and a container. That sounds delicious!!
NY Lurker @ 12/31/2007 at 12:19 am
Happy New Year with hubby. You’re smart to stay home. :)
Jill! you need to rattle some pots and pans Miss Lady! A New Year without Hoppin John! Lord, woman where are you? I’ll send you some! You just need to have your own hot sauce! I don’t share my Franks!
Alex all these kids in the grocery store had no idea! I was shocked. How can traditions be carried on when the young have no clue!? As for the dried one in the wallet, my great grand mother died in 77 and was 96 so whatever that wonderful woman taught me, I hold dear! I’m taking some to the kids in the store tomorrow!
NYL - nice of you to pop in! I figured you were super-busy but just wanted you to know I was thinking about ya and that you were missed :-) Sounds like a crazy Christmas and I’m glad you’ll get the chance to put up your feet and relax for New Year’s! You deserve it! We’ll catch up more in the new year for sure.
Glad I missed last night’s debacle. Picking on children is just uncalled for, no matter who the parents are or what people feel about the parents. Kids are just off limits.

I feel the same way Coal, spending quality time with my mom is the best, especially since I don’t get to see her all the time. When we get together, either here in SD or when I go back to NY , we have lots of fun together. I hope this coming year will be a very good one for you Coal, wishing you nothing but the best for the New Year and always. I can’t believe it is almost 2008 already. Definitely lucky us, lots and lots of coziness and snuggling :)
stop the insanity @ 12/30/2007 at 10:14 pm 2008 is one day away, a new year is beginning. Time for some to sever any connection with the past, it’s over, done, kaput, make a clean sweep of old cobbwebs. Some topics do not need to be discussed as they have no importance in the life of this family.
NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION-JOLIE-PITTS THREADS ARE TO BE ABOUT JOLIE-PITTS.
