They showed the tape on TV, and let me tell you, there was NOTHING on that tape that you couldn’t see just from looking from the other sideline. Sorry rachel, I disagree. They (the NFL and the commish) certainly did shout it from the rooftops that the Pats got caught cheating from day one. It was all over the place. The commish was on all the pre-game, post-game, espn, you name it, talking about it. I think he enjoyed rubbing their faces in it, and Bellichick in particular. As far as them destroying evidence for the Pats, now how would that help anything? I think the commish liked punishing the Pats. It is because the investigation implicated others that the ‘blackeye’ would’ve come.

If their championship legacy was in jeopardy, I think the commish would have acted and stripped them of their titles if he could have. The point is, the scandal ended up being more widespread than he anticipated. So it just went away.

As far as the Bridgette thing, I do tend to believe they were already broken up when she got pregnant. Let’s face it, she was at an age where she wanted a baby and she was no longer in a relationship. Why not take the chance to try to get pregnant with a a former bf, especially a male specimen like Brady? You name a child out of wedlock with the father’s name so that he/she has a sense of identity with his other half. He/she is sure of the mother, most probably lives with the mother and identifies with the mother’s family. Carrying the father’s name is a seal of the relationship with the father and the father’s family (aside from the legal considerations). It gives the child a sense of belonging to that family too. That’s what Tom’s son will lack as he grows older. Sure, he can tell his friends who his father is, but they will look ofn him as Tom Brady’s son whom he did naot want….AND THAT MIGHT NOT BE TRUE.

HAVING A BABY IS NOT ABOUT THE MAN, BUT IT’S NOT ABOUT THE WOMAN EITHER!! IT”S ABOUT THE CHILD. SURE BRIDGET “HAS HER OWN MONEY, IS INDEPENDENT AND CAN POP THE KID OUT”. BUT IT IS NOT ABOUT MONEY. It’s about the emotional security and emotional well being of her son. I want to ad about this Jets/Pats controversy that if the Pats knew it was wrong, they wouldn’t have been taping out in the open. The truth is that all teams tape, they just did it from the wrong place in the stands. That said, they also have been winning just fine since it was stopped MONTHS ago.

The reason they are undefeated is because they have more than one great player. Welker, Moss, Mouroney, Brady, Bruschi, Vrabel, Wilfork… they have a reliable kicker, even their linemen catch touchdown passes. Great coaching, great teamwork. Manning’s always consistent & has a bond with each of his players & studies each and every game of the team they are facing, & is always on the sidelines determining plays with his team and coaches. That being said, they are good, maybe even great as a team, and it’s a shame that they cheated because it mars their accomplishment this season. No matter what anyone says, there will always be some people (myself included) who believe this undefeated season should only be in the record books with an asterisk.

As for Tom Brady, he’s a good quarterback, but not the best to ever play. He has a great line around him, and has always had good defenses to take care of the other half of the game. Offense makes stars, but defense wins games, we’ve seen it time and again. Case in point: this year’s Cleveland Browns, who scored the fourth most point in the league (after New England, Dallas, and Indianapolis), but didn’t even make the playoffs!

Kimbo, have you ever watched football and seen the coaches on the sidelines holding something up over their mouths as they call plays? IF you watch football, I’m sure you know what I’m talking about. That has been going on for YEARS AND YEARS, way before Belichick was a coach. Do you know why they do that??? Yes, because ALL teams try to steal signals. Many of them go as far as to hire lip readers to try and gain an advantage (thus the covering of their mouths). It’s true no one else has been publicly implicated, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. Goodell made an example of the Pats as a warning to teams (so now they know they have to be discreet about it).

As for the asterisk…thats bull. They were caught at the very beginning of the year and have been under tremendous scrutiny since. They aren’t doing anything now any other team isn’t doing. Belichick was arrogant so they paid the price. They put together a perfect season being watched closely by everyone. Don’t hate the great, just appreciate ;)

Mr. Belicheat is okay with the fine because he got a big fat raise this year. It must be okay to reward a cheater. What kind of a message does that send. There is a huge differece in reading lips and actually sending a member of your staff over to the opponents sidelines to videotape the signals. You have it on tape and evertime you play that team you have inside knowledge. If there was no benefit, then why do it. All teams cheat - blah blah blah. I heard if you say it 1000 times than you will eventually believe it. Spygate has hurt their image without a doubt. Besides Harrison got caught with steriods - thats a form of cheating too. I doubt he just started taking steriods. Mr. Kraft has a policy - anything to win because he has a big fat checkbook. It is pretty sad.

Nicely said, buckeyegurl! And how nice that you can be a fan of a team, but recognize that another is also good, if not better that year. Last year the Colts finally beat the Pats in the playoffs after an interception. Oh, well, that’s just how it goes sometimes. Anything can happen on any given day. And they were outplayed. Our favorite teams are not always perfect! And thanks for mentioning that Brady has a whole slew of receivers, cause that has always been the best way they win!

I also don’t care about his personal life. None of us actually know what went down with the Bridget situation. dancermom, where do you read such trash? I live in Boston and have never seen ANY stories about Tom doing anything but playing golf on the courses..LOL I also have no idea why people think he treats women like cr**. How do any of you know this? Just because of the Bridget thing? Like I said before, you don’t know what went down. He was with her for 3 years, folks. She obviously thought highly of him to spend that much time with him. And he was just 26 or so when they started dating. He just did not want to get married yet. Simple as that. I don’t see anything wrong with knowing you’re not ready. That doesn’t make him a jerk.

I don’t doubt that spygate has hurt their image and will always be a point of contention for a lot of people. It is unfortunate it happened and that Belichick was an arrogant azz about it. Because yes, it does taint their accomplishments in some people’s eyes. I’m saying the league is full of stuff much worse.

As far as the steroid argument, well haven’t you heard all of the players that have been expose ALL OVER THE LEAGUE? How about Shawn Merriman at SD? Didn’t he lead the league in sacks the year before he tested positive for roids? Should that record be taken away or asterisked? How about the freaking felons employed by many teams (accused murders, car theives, drug takers/traffickers, not to mention those accused of domestic abuse or rape)? How is taping signals any worse? Why aren’t these teams, or at least these player’s accomplishments tainted or have an asterisk? If you go down that road where does it end?

The point is the NFL is full of problem children and until all teams and front offices clean up their act no team is ABOVE anything! You really don’t think a team that would employ a felon in order to get a competitive advantage wouldn’t ’stoop’ to cheating by stealing signals? That is a bit ‘thick’ of you.

GO JAGS!!! Tom Brady is a cheater. If the Jags can’t get it done well the 2007 World Champ will have to finih them off !!! GO COLTS!!

So what if it was payback. Would you want your signals videotaped. Payback or not - it is wrong to tape signals. I don’t blame him one bit for complaining. It is an unfair advantage, and should not happen. Who complained at the Packer game last year. I am sure it was the Packers and not the Patriots. They don’t complain on themselves. It dosn’t matter. I am sure they hate each other, but it dosn’t make it right to videotape signals wheather you know the opposing coach or not. I really don’t care what went down between Mangini and Belichick. It means absolutely nothing. He got caught doing something wrong. It had to be wrong because he got fined. If that is the case - you should be mad at the Packers too. Mr. Belichick’s arrogance got them in trouble. He was warned and continued to videotape. Something is not right.

Hey thanks ‘go sox and pats’! I love to see good football, and no one has played better football this year than the Patriots. And no quarterback has played better than Tom Brady. My Browns surprised the heck out of me and most of the country though. Too bad they don’t have a defense or they would be scary. And here it is, the mantra of the losers, ‘there’s always next year’!

I don’t care if there is bad blood between them. Who gives a crap. You said he wouldn’t let Mangini tape signals from the endzone. I just want to know why seeing he is the king of all videotape. I am making good points - but you are just too thick and blinded to see them. If I was Mangini, I would have reported him too. So would you if you were a head coach and your signals were being taped. Eric Mangini gets paid to win as much as Belichick so ANY good coach would report him - and should report him. He is breaking the rules - get it now. You would let someone cheat on your team. See the whole team got behind their cheater coach. Gave him the game ball and a nice speech. They obviously don’t care about spygate either. Rewarding the man for breaking the rules. They must be in on it too or why else would they reward him. The man tainted peoples opinion of their hard work and accomplishments. Lets reward him. He lost the 32nd pick of the draft - NOT the 7th pick that they got from the 49ers - that should have been taken away too.

well he deserved to be outed. Cheating is never be acceptable. Who cares about bad blood. What signals can be filmed from the endzone. I would guess it is not as easy to see signals from the endzone as it is when you are right on the opposing teams sideline. That makes belichick a hypocrite. I can cheat but you cant. How can you make sense of the senseless.

I don’t need to prove that other teams don’t cheat. The burden of proof is not on me at all. But all I hear on this blog and other similar blogs is that everybody does it. It is you that need to prove that other teams do it. I am not saying that other teams don’t try to read the coaches lips, and that defensive players pay close attention to the quarterback when he makes his call, that is fine because they ALL do that. I get it. But what the patriots did goes far beyond reading lips and NOT all teams do that. The patriots were caught twice doing that. I am sure they learned their lesson and won’t do it again. But what I can’t understand is why a coach with a team with the talent that he has would put his teams legacy in question when it was obvious that the jets didn’t have a prayer of winning that game. He is supposed to be a genius but that was pretty stupid in my opinion.

So now I am really confused; Tom’s telling Tony not to bring Jessica to the games? First of all, doesn’t GI go to most of his games and secondly, Tom’s giving dating advice?!

Apparently Gi and Tom’s famly shared a luxury box at the Meadowlands with John. How incredibly kind of Bridget. So how come Tom and Gi didn’t go out with his family and son afterwards? Was Tom too self-important to celebrate with them or too lazy to do diaper-duty? Maybe Gi told him not to (hence the hands to themselves instead of the expected PDAs).

As to way he would celebrate in NY and not with his team in Boston–it is probably the same reason her wears a Yankee cap. Who is he loyal to?

Oh, Dancermom, I enjoy your comments! But, I am sure that Tom Brady spent time with his family after the game. The baby would have been well asleep at midnight. If he was out with a baby at midnight, then he would be labelled a bad dad. I doubt Bridget or his parents would let that happen. I am confident that he spent time with his son and parents before the child flew back with Bridget on Sunday. It looks like Tom Brady was going out to dinner on Sunday night and not Saturday night after the game. I am sure that Brady’s parents and Bridget all caught a flight home after the game on Sunday out of New York City. Therefore, he would stay in New York to see them off. There would be no reason to go to Boston.
