Nikki Blonsky’s Star Keeps on Rising
Hairspray star Nikki Blonsky is nearly speechless as she accepts the Rising Star Award at the 2008 Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala at the Palm Springs Convention Center on Saturday in Palm Springs, Calif.
She was hoping and preparing for a last-minute resolution that would permit actors to attend the Golden Globes.
“A girl’s gotta cover her back and have a dress, just in case,” she said.
The 19-year-old actress along with the rest of the Hairspray cast picked up the festival’s Ensemble Performance Award. Congrats to everyone!
Into the Wild actor Emile Hirsch also picked up the other Rising Star Award.

Congratulations Nikki! You ARE the rising star! Everyone who has worked with you is awed by your talent, your professionalism, your joy, your kindness, and your determination to be who you are.
Nikki doesn’t let the people that judge her get her down. She knows who her friends are, and the people that care about her are the only people that matter to her.
If putting her down somehow makes you feel better, so be it. I can easily skip over your ignorant words here, as you add to Nikki’s post count. :D
We adore you, Nikki! And the people that work with you, and your friends and family, adore you too, and that is what matters.
As Zac said on the Kerrie-Ann show, re: people not believing in her, putting her down:
“Her friends just say TAKE THAT!!!!!!!!! Ohhhh! Cause she can’t say it, but she wants to. Take that!”
For those of you who claim to be Zac fans, that are putting her down, take Zac’s words to heart, and F-off!
Her voice grates. Get a better style, stop doing unflattering poses and oh yeah stop thinking obseity is okay. Too bad for her though, despite all the haters, her “fans” are the most idiotic.

Nikki looks gorgeous! She totally deserves this award for her talented work in Hairspray and the cast definitley deserves the ensamble award because they all were awesome together! So happy to see her getting recoginizition by the industry and the people that really count for her talent, can’t wait to see the many more awards she will also be winning in the future! Yay for Nikki!
It’s funny how people call obese women “gorgeous” just to make obese women better about themselves. Yet no one ever says the same about Michael Moore or other obese men.

There are a lot of double standards ezekiel, as women trust me we know that. And that is assuming that some women don’t find some chubby men cute, some people like their men extra cuddly, who are you to say!

I think her 30 seconds of fame are about over. She has now done a major movie and tv movie where the biggest criteria for the part was her size. she’s been type cast and there isn’t a huge calling for plus size leading ladies. I’m happy she received recognition for her work, but I can’t see her career really ever taking off and going anywhere.

For those of you commenting on her weight, what is your motive? Are you truly concerned for her health because you want her to have a long, healthy, happy life? For those who are, fine…but I really didn’t get that feel from most of the comments. And, if your only motive is just plain mean-spiritedness, why? Could we not all be put up on the ‘net and be picked on for one thing or another? Would you feel these comments were appropriate if it were your mother, sister, best friend or you? It’s just sad. #105 - I say stop thinking hate is okay.
Besides all this, Nikki is being honored for her acting and career potential. She has shown that she is an absolute breath of fresh air through her role in Hairspray and she has been signed for a number of great career-boosting things…that’s all we can know right now, but doesn’t that qualify her for this? I think so and obviously those giving the award do. So, keeping with why this thread was actually published, congratulations to Nikki…may she continue to see success in her future and may she never see a lot of the disappointing stuff that’s been posted here.
I would also just like to point out to #62 that #59 only seemed to be praising/complimenting Nikki, which one would think would be welcomed on this thread.
