Nikki Blonsky’s Star Keeps on Rising
Hairspray star Nikki Blonsky is nearly speechless as she accepts the Rising Star Award at the 2008 Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala at the Palm Springs Convention Center on Saturday in Palm Springs, Calif.
She was hoping and preparing for a last-minute resolution that would permit actors to attend the Golden Globes.
“A girl’s gotta cover her back and have a dress, just in case,” she said.
The 19-year-old actress along with the rest of the Hairspray cast picked up the festival’s Ensemble Performance Award. Congrats to everyone!
Into the Wild actor Emile Hirsch also picked up the other Rising Star Award.

I can’t think of anyone who deserves it more. She is beautiful (yes, BEAUTIFUL) and talented, so she deserves all the praise and recognition she gets.
I think she looks hot.
I don’t even know her, but I feel really proud and happy for everything that she is accomplishing.

To those who say she typecasted…they’re a crap load of other “celebrities” that are typecasted yet they still make movie. Oh there not that many roles for big girls out there…whp are you to say anything. Are you the owner of Paramount? Dreamworks? MGM? She’s a SMART and TALENTED woman that can make decisions that’ll helo her reach HER goal with her career!

Yes she does look bad in the headlining picture (way to go JJ!) but screw it she’s beautiful anyway!

Oh my goodness I love Shankman, how adorable is he and his love for Nikki! I am super pumped for the Critic’s Choice Awards tonight and to hopefully see her and all the Hairspray cast out enjoying an awardshow while they can! Really hope something can be figured out for the Golden Globes on Sunday, this whole cast, Nikki especially, deserves to go and be celebrated for all their talented work on the movie!
I am also very excited for her to be on The View on Thursday and soooo ready for Saturday night to come so I can watch Queen Sized which is going to be fantastic, I can feel it already by the awesome promotional trailers for it! So ready for the year of Nikki!!

good on u guys who focused other aspects other than her weight. She is gorgeous, and a great actor. And BOY can she dance. WHY do some of u guys have to go on about her being “sick”? F***- she’s NOT obese. And how dare you call her”ugly”!!!!! The nerve of it. Those of you who can’t see anything beyond her weight- GEt A LIFE. Her acting and singing is waaaaay better than Amanda Bynes or Brittany Snow.

As a nurse, I KNOW that anorexia kills people SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much faster than being SLIGHTLY overweight. SLIGHTLY. And Nikki Blonsky is gorgeous, talented, and a great role model.
