James Lynn Spears Studies For Her GED
Expectant mom Jamie Lynn Spears attends a test preparation class with mom Lynne Spears held at the Tangipahoa Parish School System Adult Education Center in Hammond, Louisiana on Friday.
The 16-year-old Nickelodeon star was seen carrying out a GED study guide, used to study for a high school equivalency degree. That’s right. Get that education, Jamie Lynn. You go, girl!
Jamie Lynn announced less than a month ago that she is pregnant with her and boyfriend Casey Aldridge’s first child.
Let’s keep a watchful eye on Ms. Spears–no baby bump in sight yet!

I wish she would stay in traditional high school if she can - if she plans on trying to go to a University. Many universities are refusing GED recipients or seriously limiting the numbers of GED people they allow. It’s kind of double jeopardy - who knows why someone had to get a GED, illness, home schooling. etc. I’m glad I got my diploma but I have three friends who got GEDs and couldn’t get into State University unless they first committed to 2 years at Community College then 4 full years at university and they felt like it was a slap in the face.
Good for Jamie Lynne and, hopefully, she and her baby’s father will (both) go on to college!
Her career isn’t over. She’s still young. They haven’t cancelled her show. They will be showing the already filmed next season on Nickelodeon. By the show is doing airing, the baby might be born and she could make more. Nickelodeon isn’t going to get rid of their cash cow right away. It’s good she’s getting her GED. Has her sister even done that?
MonkeyShines- that’s really unfortunate, what happened to your friends. It’s also extremely unusual- most colleges *prefer* GED applicants to diploma applicants for two reason: 1. You can cheat your way to a GED (they don’t recycle tests, etc) 2. GED applicants are more likely to have worked than diploma applicants.
It’s been a very long time since I’ve heard about GED applicants being passed over. But there is still a social stigma attacked to the GED (not as smart, trouble maker, etc).
I can’t comment on her pregnancy, as it’s not my place. I’m just going to say that this girl is very young and she’s trying (it seems) to straighten out her life and make the decisions that need to be made. Hopefully, she’ll have a stronger support group than her sister does.
get over it…she’s not the first 16 year old to get pregnant… believe it or not, it can happen to anyone, whether or not precaution was taken…it’s not that uncommon for 16 year olds to have sex unless a bunch of super religious people are the ones reading/commenting….at least she has enough money to support a baby at a young age!

why are people so supportive of her? shes 16 and pregnant! sure, shes not the first 16 year old to be pregnant, but in her posistion, and considering all the crap her sister does, you think she would have been smarter! and the fact that she has all thoose young girls who looked up to her and admired her, it was just such a dumb decision. Shes not a normal 16 year old girl! She cant just do what everyone else is doing, she choose to be in the public eye therefore she should have made better and smarter decisions. In saying that, people will get over it eventually. Its just like Vanessa Hudgens nude pics came out, the world was in uproar and she at first had alot of people agaisnt her, but slowly everyone got over it and now no-one cares anymore. However getiing pregnant at 16 is alot bigger than taking nude pics of yourself.
Number 17, I agree with you. Its not fact that shes 16 and pregnant, its the fact that in her posistion she should have known better. Teenagers in that industry have to realize that every decision they make needs to be as if they were an adult, because millions of kids around the world look up to them.
I agree with #9. I went to an independent study school where you would go 2x a week for an hour a day, and a lot of girls that were Jaime Lynn’s age who were pregnant or had a child went there. They finished their high school there because you could go at your own pace. You could finish 2 years of HS in one! Plus they had time to be with their child and take care of them. They even brought them to school. =)
I hate how people are knocking teenage moms. Sure it’s not the best thing in the world, but it’s also not the worst. I’ve known a lot of them and there are so many opportunities now for teenage moms that it’s possible to get an education and have time to spend with your child.
You’re an a-hole. #19. A lot of people make bad choices and drop out of HS school. You can do one of two things: correct your mistake by getting your GED to go further in life or never go back and stay in a dead end. I knew someone whose father had a stroke and he was forced to quit HS to take care of his family. Do you consider him a “******” or a “social misfit?” The GED allowed him to go back and continue his education when he was able to. Your comment is ignorant.
I agree R17. I can’t see anything positive about a 16 yr old being pregnant, famous or not. She sets a bad example for kid’s that look up to her. FYI, I have been reading that she has had scares in the past. My money is on her having 3 kids by the time she is 21.

Of course she is not the 1st 16 year old to be a parent. She should have all the support, of course.But what about the baby? Can she even take care of the baby? Is she even prepared or even ready to face the responsibility, other than selling her story for money? Actually Jon its the other way around. The GED requires little or no supervision to receive (if you watch late night tv you see commercials advertising ‘get your high school equivalences’ aka GED). But either way you’re finishing high school. My friends opted not to attend school period. Kid you not someone said Jaime-Lynn could become a secretary - well my friend became a secretary to the Chief of the Fire Department in my hometown. Another is a clerk for the school board, the other manages a gas station. Not bad. Me college - job at movie company in SF.
They had to get GEDs for various reasons - suicide attempt, run-away, and serious car accident left one in a coma for a year. We thought he’d be allowed to catch up to us but my HS did nothing to help him catch up.

Since Jamie Lynn is not that far along yet, she should consider working towards her actual high school diploma. It’s not like she’s about to give birth any minute.
The unfortunate truth of the matter is, a GED is not as valued as a high school diploma. I’m a college student, and getting into college- even state universities- is more competitive than ever, even with your regular diploma. if she wants to go to college some day, she should try to get a regular diploma.
that said, i don’t understand how *today* there are still unwanted pregnancies. There are so many forms of hormonal birth control (many more than just “the pill,” because not every woman could take it) [granted, some people, like those on certain antidepressants and anticonvulsives, cannot take hormonal birth control, but that doesnt apply to the majority of women) that are over 99% effective at preventing pregnancy…was it so hard to take a pill every day or get an injection once a month or wear a patch or something like that?
i feel bad for her…i read her interview in OK Magazine and she definitely seemed less than thrilled at being pregnant. an unhappy mother (and i cannot blame her…she’s 16. most 16 year olds, especially those accustomed to having a free life because of money and fame, do not want to experience motherhood at that moment) will make for an unhappy baby.
If she really doesn’t want the baby, she should give it up for adoption. many women in the US are desperate to have a child, and she can help herself, the baby, and some family who would really like a baby.
I think she’s trying to do something positive with her life and some of the comments here still denounce her because she’s getting a GED. When a celebrity f.uck.s up they get thrashed in the media, when they do something decent they still get trashed…. Come on…!!

I’ve known several people who have been pregnant at younger ages, and although she is in the public eye, at least she is trying. You can’t say she messed up like her sister, because as far as we know, she wasn’t trying to get pregnant, and she hasn’t married her boyfriend for less than a day.
She is trying really hard, and we all make mistakes. I don’t find any reason for people to judge her because of that. If you want to judge her, wait and see if she is a good parent. Then you’ll have a reason to talk.

What’s the matter with getting a GED? I dropped out of HS to support myself…obtained my GED and went on to college where I now hold a Masters in Social work. GED does not = low expectations…it = a new start on life.
