Kate Winslet is the New Nicole Kidman
Kate Winslet is replacing mom-to-be Nicole Kidman in the new drama The Reader.
“Kate was offered it first before Nicole but couldn’t do it but the dates clashed with commitments to Revolutionary Road,” an insider tells People. “So the dates changed, Nicole then got pregnant and now it has come back to Kate.”
Added the source, “Actually everyone is happy now – Nicole as she has a baby on the way, Kate because she has this great role she originally wanted to do, and the filmmakers are too.”
The Reader is about an affair between a teenage boy and an older woman in post-WWII Germany.

How many movies with this kind of theme is Nicole going to be involved in? I know she pulled out but only because of the pregnancy.

Celeb watcher…… I’m glad someone else thinks this is strange. And Nicole already has two kids, you wouldn’t think she would want to be asociated with a movie with this kind of thing AGAIN.
Aww, this would have been great for Nicole. But I love Kate, too, and I’m THRILLED about the baby, so it’s okay.

I am sure the producers are thrilled to get a real actress. Their movie will at least stand a chance now.
Kate Winslet has a child so why are the people who were attacking Nicole for doing a movie with this subject matter not attacking Kate Winslet as well…

i predict that it would’ve been more interesting with nicole in it…but kate’s just as good i guess. i think nicole has more of that ‘mystery’ in her. anyhow, congrats to both kate and nicole.

Notbusy, your point is well taken. The fact is there is only one WEIRDO who keeps changing names to agree with herself who has some sort of thing against Nicole and very strange ideas.
Kate is a fantastic actress but so is Nicole. Her movies tanking are not because of Nicole, as anyone with a brain could tell you. They were either poor movies (Stepford Wives, Bewitched) that were remakes at a time when the market was glutted with remakes of old movies and TV shows, or indie pictures. Nicole is a top, top actress, which is why she keeps getting challenging roles.
Kate is soooo underrated. She should have won about three Oscars by now. By the way, she hasn’t been in that many hits, either. these are ACTRESSES — up for a challenge, not just to make blockbusters that appeal to the car crash and nudity crowd.
I think the part of Hanna Schmitz (lead in the Reader) fits Winslet perfectly. And while i badly wanted to see how Kidman, one of the greatest actresses today, would show this heroine, I am sure Kate will do her best too. ‘Cause Nicole got a better part right now:-)
I read the book and the part of Hanna is not for Kate. I’d like to see Laura Dern or Cate Blanchett

They’re both great actresses but we must admit it they are too skinny for this part. Nicole obviously is skinny too but she reportedly planned to gain some pounds for this role - and now look at Winslet. she’s already the same complection as it is described in Schlink’s novel.
yay! kate is soooo underrated. anything nicole can do, kate can do ten times better. kate keeps everything low-key and quiet whereas nicole tends to pout alot and seems to only care about looking good (just the impression i get) . i love kate so much, she’s a much better role model seeing as she actually eats and with five oscar nominations, i think she’s perfect for the role. she’s a real woman.
Hopefully, when you mean ‘the new Nicole Kidman’, she won’t get loads of botox in a few years time! I like Nic, but seriously!
I’m very very happy for Kate, a real young talented actress of our generation! Plot sounds very good and she’s perfect for a drama story! And Stephen Daldry is a brilliant director, he has done a great work in the hours! I hope to see very soon this new Kate’s project and…Revolutionary Road with Leo!!!! ^__^

I can’t wait for this movie. I read the book at school, and I think Kate is perfect. Nic would have been good, but Kate’s better. so excited!
