Joaquin Phoenix is Speechless
Joaquin Phoenix accepted the award for Favorite Leading Man during Tuesday’s People’s Choice Awards despite the writers’ strike.
In a taped acceptance “speech,” the 33-year-old actor used cards to get a thank-you message across.
His funny cards read, “I’m speechless without the writers. Seriously. But in my own quiet way, I want to thank the millions of fans that voted for me for favorite leading man.”
Joaquin mumbled a quick “thank you” at the end of his printed message.

You/Me if you think that writing is not that hard, you have not read what people write on blogs! Nor have you sat through bad movies, or lame sitcoms. You have not seen the difference that makes a mediocre movie a great one.
You simply are not that discerning. And you don’t understand the difference between writing a novel, non-fiction, television, plays, essays, interviews, etc. HUGE difference between writing a TV documentary and a magazine article, for example. And if you don’t know that much about writing, and don’t understand the nuances and why they do rewrites, then you really shouldn’t be making comments about another person’s job.
By the way, some of our greatest novelists in America bombed in Hollywood. Some of our greatest movie writers couldn’t write a book. Get your facts straight.
Maybe You/Me should move to Hollywood and write a screenplay or a pilot for a sitcom if they want to watch something new on tv so bad.

Can’t believe that some are comparing his deceased brother’s acting abilities to Joaquin. Pretty sad!! I am very glad that he won!! He so deserved this award. Even though he does not care about the awards, it is great he is finally getting recognition he deserves!!
You/Me - I really don’t think that I’m misinformed, I think perhaps you are misguided in your priorities. Maybe you NEED to turn off the TV for a while if writers (who, like I said, get paid PEANUTS and MAKE these shows happen) trying to compensated fairly is seen as selfish. God forbid you have to wait another month for a new episode of Desperate Housewives or Lost or [gasp] Law & Order.
BTW, as a lit major, yes I’d say I’ve read a few books.
He wasn’t putting down the writers. Most of the actors in Hollywood have visibly shown support for the people on strike. They understand exactly how important writers are to their jobs.

Yes, it sucks that I can’t watch new episodes of my favorite shows, but as someone who’s a writer and one of my favorite college professors is a screenwriter, I totally empathize with the striking writers. They deserve to get paid, period. All of these studios are too busy lining their own pockets to give them their fair share. That’s not cool considering that lots of screenwriters have to have other jobs to subsidize what they do.
#51 remember da truth - THANK YOU!!! As a Global Journalism major I can tell you that not anyone can write - it’s hard. And then try switching from journalism to writing screenplays and novels…I’ve tried it and it’s extremely difficult because the principles are completely different. You have to drop everything you’ve ever learned as a journalist to be a novelist/screenwriter and vice versa - and even then, you can still suck. I’ve been published in newspapers and literary magazines, but you should see some of the stories my classmates and I wrote for my Fiction writing class. My professor ripped apart just about everything that he read.

I like him better this way personally. I think he looks more manly. I don’t like skinny little a*s men or big buff body builders. Basically I do not want a man that goes to the gym more than I or who weighs less than I. The messy hair and clothes look suits him. I actually like that look better than him all dressed up.

I agree wholeheartedly — that You/Me tv addict needs to turn off the TV and read a few WORDS if he thinks he’s being deprived! Guy probably has no friends, and can only converse with online bloggers.
For years I didn’t even OWN a television. People were aghast. What do you DO at night, they asked in awe. Well, let’s see. Talked to friends, either in person at my house or on the phone, went out with people — you know, real LIVE people I interacted with, read a book, cleaned the house, wrote letters, shopped, listened to music, etc. You know, all the things people did before 50 years ago.
Try it sometime. It enriches your life.

Well said!!!!! I totally agree with you! He is gorgeous the way he is and as you say, he’s a proper man - well fit!! So glad he won the award, he deserves it! I love him!! :)
I just read the story of this girl who met Joaquin at Whole Food on IMDB… How people can be so rude and imagine story like this! It’s degusting really!! She’s crazy!
The weirdest thing about the story is the storyteller. True or not, he wasn’t being rude. She was. If I was him and all my “fans” were like her, I’d do anything I could to protect my privacy. What a *****.

You’re right! And she even didn’t tell when it happened or what her husband said to him. I think he was kind to talk with him because a reaction like this would make me mad.

O MY GOODNESS, HE’S SO CUTE!!! you can tell he’s nervous and I love how he tries not to laugh as he throws the cards away one by one. He has to be the best and hottest actor ever. I still think it’s sad about his brother I feel bad for Joaq. Anyway I still think he’s so freaking hilarious. Just look at his adorable dimples. He definitely deserved that award. I know I’d marry him in a second if asked!! GO JOAQUIN YOU ROCK MY WORLD!!!
