Scarlett Johansson is Mary, Queen of Scots
Phillip Noyce was just named the director of Mary Queen of Scots, starring Scarlett Johansson.
The 23-year-old actress is sticking to what she does best–period dramas!
Mary Queen of Scots is a biography of the woman who became Scotland’s queen at 9 months in 1542 and, later, a rival to the English throne. Mary, a Roman Catholic, was imprisoned for many years on charges of plotting to murder Elizabeth I, a Protestant. Elizabeth eventually had her beheaded in 1587.
Production is scheduled to start April in London and Scotland.
Noyce has directed some of the bestest movies in the whole wide world: Rabbit-Proof Fence, Patriot Games (Harrison Ford) and Dean Calm (Nicole Kidman, Billy Zane).

She’s been doing this movie forever. She took over the role when Bryce Dallas Howard dropped out and it’s been stalled for like 3-4 years now.

Apparently John Curran (The Painted Veil) was going to direct. Shame, I loved ‘Veil’.
But I really loved Rabbit Proof Fence and Dead Calm (not a fan of Patriot Games), so we’ll see how this works.

16/17 - NO, that’s not true. “Bloody Mary” = Mary Tudor, who killed many protestants in 16th century England because of her Catholic amibitions. The queen who succeeded her, was Mary’s half-sister Elisabet the first.
And: Scarlett is an amazing actress and stylish person, who could act in a lot more sorts of films than costumedramas.

YAY! I can’t wait. 99% of the time she picks great roles and works with excellent directors (just go to IMDB and look at all of the talented directors that wanted her in their films). The Lindsays of the world could learn a thing or two from her. No wonder Lindsay Lohan and Jessica Biel are jealous of this girl and her excellent choices!
And Phillip Noyce is getting better and better with each movie in this decade. Rabbit Proof Fence, The Quiet American (amazingly directed), Catch a Fire…

What I actually did was
1. point out the fact that american/big name actresses are constantly cast over often very talented “native” actresses
and 2. then take the piss out of someone using capitals to make what is their opinion look like fact.
Personally I have no problem with her or even watching americans play americans, but it would be better to have a real scottish talent, it isn’t like there aren’t any, and I am sure that if the studios were obsessed with gaining an audience she wouldn’t have even been in the running.
Take that in any way you like, I can’t really be bothered to argue with you any further, besides making any further argument seems pointless and childish.
Girls like you, Carrie, just find something to complain about. You, obviously, have yet to see if she can pull off the role and just complain and complain just like all the jealous haters.

mary queen of scots was beheaded at the castle where i live wonder if were going to have some hollywood stars round our area. probs not though.
Carrie - I totally get your point but hey, if it’s going to be Americanized, I’m glad they picked Scarlett for the role. I’ve been a huge fan of hers for years and just think she has a lot of talent and class. Most of young Hollywood could learn a thing or two from her.

No - Bloody Mary was Henry Tudors daughter Mary by his Catholic wife Kathryn of Arragon. Called Bloody Mary because she executed so my Protestants when she became Queen and tired to return England to Catholicism.
