Roseanne Barr Hates Oprah

Roseanne Barr Hates Oprah

Actress/comedian Roseanne Barr has made some wild accusations in her latest blog about talk show host Oprah Winfrey and Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama. Here’s a summary of what she said (with spelling and grammar fixed):

Barack is an empty suit selling “hope” in lieu of Truth
Oprah helped to elect Arnold Schwarzenegger. I have no doubt that she voted her purse by doing this, as she is a large land owner in California, and that ilk fears Dems because they do not want to pay their “fair share” of Cali tax.
Oprah has given us Dr. Phil. If that was not offensive enough to decent thinking people, now she brings us Obama. He has no ideas, no plan and nothing to add other than the cynical pacification of the masses with bedtime stories about hope.
Oprah, you play the race card and the gender card too. You are a closeted republican and chose Barack because you do not like other women who actually stand for something to working American Women besides glamour, angels, Hollywood and dieting!
– It is historical that Oprah, beloved of women, chooses a flashy man with small credentials over a seasoned woman politician with 35 years of experience…and sells that to the female demographic who look to her for inspiration!

OUCH!!!!!

oprah THE BEST!

# 4

at the end of the day, as history has shown us, ALL politicians are da same in that they cannot and will never be able to solve our problems. a lota them try, some more than others buts its futile. As for Oprah, i think her only fault is putting too much hope in this one man. Sounds like Rosie is being too hard on her.

# 5

roseanne barr just wants attention. she’s like the wingnut who sits on the front porch with a bottle of whiskey, an old hound and a bottle of voka, bitching about life and saying outlandish ****. and like that old *****, she should just be ignored.

oprah is golden, she’s the real deal, and so is barack obama. if people had any balls, they would vote for barack. the machines that have been running washington have left quite a mess and someone strong needs to go in and clean that **** up. barack is the man.

# 6

You go Rossanne. Say like it is and not afraid.

# 7

Harsh! Roseanne’s face looks like a dried apricot. So much dislike for someone. What ashame! I like Oprah!

Politicians are all fake! It is a part of their stratedgy to win.

I kinda agree with her. I mean, a black man becoming president of the USA, it’s a strong symbol and something I’d like happening during my lifetime. But indeed, Mrs Clinton has the experience! I’m torn.

thats a f*cking funny blog and shes a 100 % right. Oprah is a stupid bandwagon jumping b*tch

obama is a soulless wishywashy f*ck and hilary is f*cking useless with no real policies. only one with any decency is Kucinich. The rest can f*ck off and die as far as i am concerned.

I 100 % agree with her. Oprah is only endorsing Obama because he is black, I remember when “White Chicks” cast were guests on her show, she praised the movie to the skies and said ridiculous things like it was the funniest movie she has ever seen etc.
I wish all the mindless followers would look beyong his charm and looks and actually pay attention to what Obama is saying. He really is totally inexperienced when it comes to foreign policy and offers only empty rhetoric.

GO HILARY!

two buck chuck @ 01/10/2008 at 9:29 am

Loathe Oprah. What a self-serving and haughty control freak she is. And the masses of desperate housewives that fawn over everything she tells them is important are just as bad.

i think that she’s being to harsh on oprah!

Roseanne is a loose cannon. LOL!!!! She gets it wrong more than she gets it right. Fisrt of all, both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are really intelligent. OK? So is John Edwards. They are all really intelligent people. And frankly, I feel like no matter which one of them comes out on top we will ALL win. Bcz there is not one single Republican who can ever again make me think about voting for a Republican. None. Nada. And I think all this arguing among the Dems is wrong. Yes they are campaigning. But they need to focus on the Republicans. People are angry at Bush. Why don’t they go after what is wrong in Washington instead of being negative about each other. Roseanne needs to STFU! If Barack Obama is gaining support, it is bcz his message of hope and believing in yourself and saying “Yes we can!” is something people really need right now. We have been totally smushed by Bush and all the terrible things that have happened in the last eight years. Beginning with the Supreme Court stealing the 2000 election for him. So the people are ready for a change. They are ready to stop being ruled by fear and would rather be ruled by hope. I am all for that. Hillary is a brilliant person. But why didn’t her and her husband criticize Bush all these years? Instead, Bill Clinton is always hanging around them. I don’t trust that. Bush is an evil man. But if Hillary is the one who wins the nomination, I will vote for her. I sure wish Al Gore would have run.

Well, both candidates are kinda equally good, depending on what you like for the future president to do or be . Let her write whatever she fancies, otherwise the 1st amendment would not exist. Please no censorship and respect her opinions, either if you like them or not; they don’t necessarily have to be all the truth.

OMG, she’s so right! other people don’t have the guts to say that. harsh but true. Obama is a big talker.

Roseanne makes good points and it hurts to say that because I love Oprah

Angelina Jolie is hoping baby No. 5 will be her second biological child with Brad Pitt.

Hillary For Prez!!!!!

Its not like obama is gonna win!!!!!! he wont win, america doesnt want a black president!

TiredofthisCrap @ 01/10/2008 at 9:41 am

Wow… someone forgot her meds again. She also needs to check her math, Hilary does not have 35 years of political experience I believe it is 8 years as a Senator. Being a first lady does not equate political experience, especially when most of her “terms” as first lady were marred with scandals.(Lewinsky , Hilarycare and Whitewater). Most voters have enough sense to investigate each candidate before making a decision. No one is voting for Barack because Oprah says so. *sheesh*

I agree w/Rosane in that Oprah is a seller of empty hopes, Oprah plays the race card very well, while in the same time NEVER addressing the true problem of colored women, none to say colored peoples.
Oprah will never stand for anything that is controversial or that will harm her bottom line.
Oprah is a fake.
She only cares about what whiddle upper middles class white women has to say - they are the ones buying her products.
I do not know any and I mean any color woman or men or family that is middle class or lower that can practice any of the things she preaches…
Oprahis another lie that the “main stream” sells, we in the lower end of the spectrum are too busy keeping up with their lies to have any time for important things like:
-Equality among social class, gender, sexual orientation, etc
-Social Justice
-Fair taxes
you name it, Oprah does not have an opinion, she is another entretainer that is there to take our time up, feeding us impossibles and making us desire the vanalities of life instead of substance… instead of a meaningful life.

I know lots of people - including my soon-to-be-can-not-wait-to mother in law and husband - that do not like Hillary.

Among all, she is the one that have so much experience and if you travel abroad, she does have INSTANT credibility and love of the people… electing Hillary will further our goal of repairing our image abroad.

I am not saying that I like EVERYTHING about that person, but I know she learns from her mistakes and she does study and take into consideration the knowledge of people…

I do not think that there is another more fit candidate at this moment, except for Edwards, but his “war to poverty” is not gaining track, Mr K has great ideas, but he will never be elected - he does not look Presidential.
On the Republican side the only open minded person - half way is… oh man! I can not recall… I guess there is no one… however Ron Paul does have very good ideas and implementatio n plans to bring this country back to a Republican way of goverment.

I like him (Ron Paul)

That said, I do not know that he would be able to implement his ideas due to the imperialistic nature of US interest abroad…. too much money, too much grid….

too many Oprahs.

I have been saying for the last 15 years, she is a fake.

Oprah is a fake….

While I agree with Roseanne on some points, people who vote for Obama because he’s black or a man are just as ridiculous as people who pick Hillary because she’s a woman. The insinuation is that Oprah should sponsor Hillary. My personal view, though I don’t watch Oprah, is that she should use her show to educate people about the candidates and the importance of voting instead of sponsoring any particular candidate or party. Same goes with California elections. It is HER show and really, she can do whatever the f— she wants.

More offensive than Dr. Phil is Girls Behaving Badly.

I totally agree with Roseanne. Oprah gave Arnold a free hour of advertising when she had him on her nationally televised show because she is friends with his wife. That is irresponsible! she completely softballed George Bush in 2000 and skewered Al Gore. No she acts differently by going on the campaign trail and thinking it has nothing to do with her show. Obama is too vague and has a very poor record toward working people.

Sooooo ON POINT. Oprah is such a PHONY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Evelyn loves the Pitts @ 01/10/2008 at 9:49 am

She is right,Oprah is a closet racist. All those white women that worship her do not realize this. But if you listen to the comments she makes about the school she opened in suoth africa “I do not owe anything to the white folks in africa” I have white people serving me” .I do not like her or Obama.VOTE Hillary.

For the first time in my life i actually agree with Roseanne Barr.
“Obama. He has no ideas, no plan and nothing to add other than the cynical pacification of the masses with bedtime stories about hope.”
That’s brilliant and absolutely true.

What a dumb *****. She obviously has no idea what she’s talking about, and feels the need to be ‘controversial’ due to the fact that no one cares about ******* Roseanne anymore. Booh to that.

Exactly!

I totally agree with her eventhough I hate her, she is so damn annoying.

Only low-educated middle-aged women or stay-at-home type of women who cant think for themselves love Oprah.

I agree with GBW up there, if Oprah had any brains or were in any way interested in the future of America, she would have used her power and the “Oprah Machine” to educate people that watch her show… she does have the platform and the money to do so, instead she whines about inner city kids that want iPod… what a greedy person…

My kids go to a inner city magnet HS, and they DO use their iPods for homework… I do not know what the kids that do not have one do, but when I read that I felt anger, Oprah is disconected and she simply does not care.

Oprah saying that she does not help American kids because they only want iPods

is the same the

Geoge Bush saying that there where no poor children in Texas….

Welcome to the East Austin, Welcome to Del Valle… welcome to any city in the great USA and you will see hungry crildren.

Mr Bill Gates and in s smaller manner Mr Dell have put some of their money where their mouth are, here and abroad they help High Schoolers… and they give away laptops and so on… they fund special program that the over taxes middle class and the lower economical classes can no longer bear and help out.

Oprah goes and donate in a country where her status will not be challanged… she is cheap.
Just look into her New Orleans “effors” it only consist in lending her face to tell people to donate, along with corporate donors… she does not put any substancial amount of money of that effort but she sure takes credit for it… with her money she could have completelly rebuilt a war….

But noooooo…. she just goes for some foto ops and she goes back to her dogs…

Oprah is not worth it, I not only have not watch her shows, but I do not support anything she does…

She is sneaky and mean.

She is a fake.

I keep hearing about Hilary’s experience…being a governor who becomes president wife doesn’t constitute experience…I mean if that’s the case let’s elect Laura Bush into Senate and have her run in four years too…I mean come on…

Obama will be another GWB - a president with “handlers” because he does not know anything about anything…

We had enough of that

It is time that we put someone who can count and read in the Oval Office.

Someone with guts.

Oprah endorsing Obama actually show how shallow they both are.

Rosanne is right Oprah sucks i hate her. Oprah is doing nothing but raising her own bank acct. with her show.
I’m so over her America have your own mind

Obama ? what’s his Plan ?

I’m not a fan of Roseanne’s BUT she is speaking the truth.
Obama has very little experience.

I use to love Oprah but as she gets older; her true self is showing. Oprah has little care about the working poor in America and truly loves catering to the upper class.

It would be a grave mistake for the Democrats to elect Obama as their candidate.
He is NOT electable as President simply because NO Republican will vote for him. He has Muslim ties (his father is a Muslim and he was raised as one)…. I have nothing against the Muslim religion as I respect all religions but considering post 911 & what’s happening in Iraq & Afghanistan; Does anyone really believe Obama will be elected President of the U.S.???

Beats the rationale of:

“He is black, he is handsome, he is charismatic”

you can also add several derrogative adjectives to the above…

I do like Obama, but I think he should finish at least one senatorial period before he does anything else… he does not have his own ideas… his ideas are base on books and people telling him what to do… not of experience and negotiation skills….

As I said before, we need some open minded brainy person in the Oval Office..

I absolutely agree with her!! (And I have a PhD, under 30, and live in CA, all things pollsters have linked to Obama supporters…well, I’m not! He talks pretty but has no concrete plans and little actual experience.)

Go Roseanne! I can’t stand Oprah and her championing of mediocrity.

Go Rosie!!!!!

She hit all the right notes.

who cares about Roseanne. She’s a has been. Irrelevant. NEXT.

i don’t care about Roseanne at all, but she really got a point this time.

And what candidate has great ideas Rosie dear? Hilary Clintons 35 years experience and the country is still fucked….why would Rosie say that Oprah should support Hilary because she’s a woman…that be as stupid as saying people should support Obama because he is black …

No one hass ever said before, O people are supportng Al Gore because he is white….lol…such stupid trash she talks ..

Thank you Roseanne! I could not agree more! I am NO fan of Oprah.

i totally agree @ 01/10/2008 at 10:22 am

i totally agree with Rosanne. Oprah has never been concerned with real issues that matters to all women, not just shallow women who watches her show everday. i’m a black woman and i have no feeling or connection with Oprah at all. i will vote for hillary clinton!

view from the north @ 01/10/2008 at 10:24 am

i totally agree!
Oprah is a racist of the worst kind
How dare she have a show and get flithy rich off the americans (white and black) and speak about women’s rights for 20 years then support Obama!
If she was not bank rolling him he would be nothing
He is terrible
It is a disgrace that she is not supporting Hillary
Shame on Oprah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i totally agree @ 01/10/2008 at 10:31 am

this election is very important and we must take back our future . Hillary is the right person for tjis difficult job. I support her 100%. Roseanne is so brave for expressing her views against all the hate that surely will come her way. VOTE HILLARY!

Riiigghhtt. And Roseanne is such a great judge of character. And she isn’t exactly the most mentally stable person anyway. We are supposed to take HER opinion seriously. I don’t think so. As a matter of fact, if Rosanne Barr, of all people, is backing Hilary Clinton then you KNOW that is the wrong candidate.

crazyDaisy @ 01/10/2008 at 10:37 am

Barack Obama Barack Obama Barack Obama Barack Obama Barack Obama Barack Obama Barack Obama!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! for president!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ouch. I love Roseanne and I hate Oprah…but I really do like Obama.

–read my blog at http://fashionpoirot.blogspot.com

It’s scary to think that the Democratic nomination for president could go to a man with less than a full term as a Senator under his belt and no viable track record for voters to use to learn what he really stands for. It’s even scarier to think that someone like Oprah Winfrey would use her media influence to endorse a candidate like that. Give him 10 or so more years learning and serving the country and I might consider him a safe candidate. It’s sad that his main competition is Hilary Clinton, because there is no way in h*ll she could ever get elected.

AMEN, Roseanne. Hilary has the knowledge and experience that Obama does not. Obama scares the hell out of me.

Sing it, sister!

I’m no Roseanne fan, either, but she’s dead on in what she says about Obama. It’s easy to SAY change, but there’s been nothing in BO’s brief resume to demonstrate his ability to ACHIEVE change. Anything else and you’re just Jimmy Carter redux, an inexperienced outsider who hasn’t got the tools to bring Congress on board with his agenda.

Say what you will about Hillary, but when I look at her, I think, this is a gal who will KNOW how to flex her Presidential power when she’s got it.

Roseanne DUMB BAR and all the rest of the Obama haters can go to hell.

Lets do this again. Roseanne DUMB BARR and all the Oprah and Obama haters can go straight to hell.

TiredofthisCrap @ 01/10/2008 at 11:12 am

The funny thing is,if the Democrats really want to win the ticket is going to have be Obama/Clinton or Clinton/Obama… so hurling insults at either candidate is useless.

You need to find something about Clinton you like as well as Obama and get over it. We need to rally behind both of them no matter the outcome and hopefully we can get this country back on track.

Edwards has no chance, he already was part of two failed campaign attempts…let it go John let it go.

Why is Hillary better?

Her and the Bush’s go hand in hand IMO. Vote for her, vote for more years of Bush.

Look at how closely the elder Bush and Bill Clinton work together. Look at how Hillary voted for Iraq, even knowing what she knew, having her husband there to inform her. They wanted this war too. Just like they wanted the TLC and all the other trade agreements, that has increased illegal immigration and transferred work elsewhere. Hillary is dirty IMO and I used to support the Clintons. I don’t anymore because I’m not stupid.

I could give 2 sh*its about Oprah and who she supports. Obama and John Edwards would be a great ticket and I hope that’s what works out.

Answer me this, is Schwarzzenegger bad for California?

Roseanne is just angry her opinions don’t carry as much weight as Oprah’s does. She wishes she had that kind of clout. I don’t care for Oprah, but Roseanne’s jealous is obvious.

ALL YOU PEOPLE THAT KEEP TALKING ABOUT OBAMA BEING AN EMPTY SUIT:

REMEMBER, HILARY VOTED FOR THE WAR IN IRAQ WITHOUT LOOKING AT INTEL AND ONLY 5 YEARS LATER DID SHE STOP VOTING TO FUND IT.

HILARY=BUSH

THIS ELECTION IS NOT ABOUT EXPERIENCE, REMEMBER BUSH-CHENEY HAVE ALL THE EXPERIENCE (AS WELL AS HIS ADMIN) AND LOOK WHERE IT HAS GOTTEN US. THIS IS ABOUT TRANSITION.

VOTE HILARY, VOTE FOR OLD FRIENDSHIP, OLD BAGGAGE, OLD COMMITMENTS AND HAVE EVERYONE WORRY ABOUT HER PAST, VOTE OBAMA AND WE LOOK TOWARDS THE FUTURE.

OBAMA-EDWARDS 2008

Violets auntie @ 01/10/2008 at 11:14 am

Oprah gives away a lot of money and she is the first to let you know about it. Do not need celebrity endorsements. If the candidate can elucidate his/her platform, no celebrity can or should help him or her. Either candidate in the Democratic party would work for me.

the first woman as president would be a history too. if i were american..i would vote for h. clinton! and this has nothing to do with black or white i’m just for the “girl” power!

lula29, WE POSTED AT THE SAME TIME AND BASICALLY SAID THE SAME THING, GET OUT OF MY BRAIN LOL :)

Jade speak truth.

I don’t care if Hillary has a ****** or not. Her and Bush go hand and hand and I’m not crazy.

^^^^^^AMEN!!!!

I certainly don’t like Roseanne BUT I agree with pretty much every point she makes.

I don’t mind Oprah but she does have a huge African-American chip on her shoulder even though White America accepted her a long time ago & made her what she is today. I think her support of Obama is more for her own satisfaction - it’s just about a black guy running america for her.

Jade, you’d have to be crazy not to see it. It’s obvious how closely linked the Bushs and Clintons are it’s not even funny.

Because why did she vote for Iraq, knowing her husband was there to advise her? No one even asked that question. Knowing as First lady she was there with all the prior info she got.

Experience can come, corruption, however is what I’m weary of.

It took me a while to get on the Obama train, because I don’t fall for just anything, but being in the industry I’m in and know what I know, and ain’t know why I’m voting for a corrupt Clinton.

Change is possible, hope is what we need. I’m voting for Barack Obama.

Go Rosanne! It’s about time someone told it like it is.

Oprah made it sound like Obama was some sort of deity. It scared me, it was like he was a new religion or something.

The media is cheerleading for Obama, there’s no doubt about it.

coalharbourqt @ 01/10/2008 at 11:36 am

I’m well educated and am not a ’stay at home type of woman’, but I do enjoy some of Oprah’s shows - she’s great at inspiring people but of course she’s self-serving - it’s her show!

All that being said, I think Roseanne has some valid points and believe Hilary is the best PERSON for the job. Wish I could vote for her!

lula29, Your so right,

I live in Atlanta Ga, and even though my state is mostly republican, I also know the republicans want her to win because they have all the playbooks on how to defeat her,

obama is a curveball, and republicans have to defeat their own worst ememy- GEORGE W BUSH.

If hilary wins the primaries, you can most certainly believe that McCain or Huckabee will be president.

Mondo Bongo! @ 01/10/2008 at 11:48 am

Opinions!! are great…… Votes!! are better…..

TiredofthisCrap @ 01/10/2008 at 11:48 am

#66

What exactly is an African-American chip, is it different from a regular chip? Or because she’s African-American you label her chip that way?

Hillary is not the best person for the job. She is GWB in sheeps clothing.

Anyone who can’t see that, hasn’t really looked at her policies.

Roseanne just wants some political clout hence her shooting off at the mouth.

#66

What’s an African American chip? Please enlighten me…

You know what I find interesting about Roseanne, is that, she states she’s for the little people and wants to help the working everyday American, and yet doesn’t use this time to support John Edwards, who is fights for the same ideals Roseanne says she supports?

She wants to vote for Hillary because she’s a woman. Forget the fact that Hillary voted for Iraq, something Roseanne is against, forget the fact that the former Clinton signed a lot jobs away with trade agreement, forget all that, vote for Hillary because she has a v*agina and she’ll legalize abortion or whatever . ..

Forget Hillary she’s GWB in sheeps clothing and I’m not buying it.

I pretty much agree with this,Oprah is SO annoying.

Well said! And oh so true!

@ # 19 Kathy - Who gives a **** about if Angelina The ***** will have another one of Brad’s The Cheat baby! There are much more important issues in this world that those 2! But I’m forgetting … you’re coming from Lahlah Land…

THIS WOMAN WAS SO DRUNK IT’S FUNNY TO SEE THAT STUPID PEOPLE ARE TAKING HER WORDS SERIOUSLY LOL.
I DON’T KNOW MUCH ABOUT YOUR CANDIDATES ALL I KNOW IT’S THAT YOU’VE GOT TO VOTE.
PEACE

I forgot ROSEANNE IS A HUGE HAS BEEN.

I thought that photo was Renee Zeweillger when I first looked at the pix of Roseanne.

The sad thing is, I agree with Roseanne. Never been an Oprah fan - she always seemed super fake to me. With that said, I don’t want to vote for Barack OR Hillary. Barack doesn’t have the experience and doesn’t ever seem to answer a question straightforward (enough doubletalk!) and the Clintons are too close to the Bushes nowadays. John Edwards needs a miracle now or I’ll be voting Republican come election time *shudders*.

its sad but oprah does have a black chip on her shoulder and pretty much tries to disparage her white guests on the show. shes needs to **** off back to her school in africa where they rape little girls

soraya from paris @ 01/10/2008 at 12:16 pm

girladvenger @ 01/10/2008 at 12:17 pm

I like Roseanne and she dead right! about Obama. I’m voting for Hillary Clinton not because she is a woman but because she is the most experience person and for those idiots who keep comparing Obama’s resume with Hillary pls check this out some of Hillary’s highlights:

After graduation Wellesley College and Yale Law School, Hillary advised the Children’s Defense Fund in Cambridge and joined the impeachment inquiry staff advising the Judiciary Committee of the House of Representatives. After completing those responsibilities, she “followed her heart to Arkansas,” where Bill had begun his political career.

They married in 1975. She joined the faculty of the University of Arkansas Law School in 1975 and the Rose Law Firm in 1976. In 1978, President Jimmy Carter appointed her to the board of the Legal Services Corporation, and Bill Clinton became governor of Arkansas. Their daughter, Chelsea, was born in 1980.

Hillary served as Arkansas’s First Lady for 12 years, balancing family, law, and public service. She chaired the Arkansas Educational Standards Committee, co-founded the Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families, and served on the boards of the Arkansas Children’s Hospital, Legal Services, and the Children’s Defense Fund.

As the nation’s First Lady, Hillary continued to balance public service with private life. Her active role began in 1993 when the President asked her to chair the Task Force on National Health Care Reform. She continued to be a leading advocate for expanding health insurance coverage, ensuring children are properly immunized, and raising public awareness of health issues. She wrote a weekly newspaper column entitled “Talking It Over,” which focused on her experiences as First Lady and her observations of women, children, and families she has met around the world. Her 1996 book It Takes a Village and Other Lessons Children Teach Us was a best seller, and she received a Grammy Award for her recording of it.

As First Lady, her public involvement with many activities sometimes led to controversy. Undeterred by critics, Hillary won many admirers for her staunch support for women around the world and her commitment to children’s issues.

She was elected United States Senator from New York on November 7, 2000. She is the first First Lady elected to the United States Senate and the first woman elected statewide in New York.
Lived: 1947-

Mrs. William J. Clinton.

Now you’re going to tell me that Obama is going to reform Healthcare, help working families and be able to work with the U.S. Congress after bashing Democratic leaders….Yeah right.

OMG!!!!!! Someone has the guts to tell the truth!!!!!!!! Oprah is so full of herself!!! But lets focus on the important issue here. Obama can deliver a really fluffy feel good speech…SO WHAT!!!! do your research! He thinks he’s JFK or Martin Luther King! Excuse me, but JFK had years of experience over OBAMA…Please do your research on Obama…his resume pales in comparison to Clinton. Don’t get me wrong…I was never a Clinton supporter but if I had to choose between the two, I would have to OBJECTIVELY choose Clinton. She has years of experience, yes, not all of her decisions were right…but what politician’s are. Obama’s political voting record is the poorist of any senators!!! We as Americans are choosing a PRESIDENT , not a homecoming king!

wow, she looks SO scary!!!

scary woman.... @ 01/10/2008 at 12:28 pm

yes this woman is so scary she seems so mean. SHE SCREAMS FOR MORE ATTENTION how sad.

she is a republican @ 01/10/2008 at 12:30 pm

she is true Oprah is a republican and is only voting for Barack because he is black there is no problem in that but she is such a fake admit you voted for George Bush funny how she didn’t slam him for Hurricane Katrina

groundcontrol @ 01/10/2008 at 12:32 pm

Ha! I love her - crazy as she can be. She’s right on this.

And do not compare Hillary’s tenure as First Lady with that of those housewives who played hostess. Her work while first lady was much more policy oriented and driven than almost any other’s - she’s much more comparable to Eleanor Roosevelt than the Bushes.

Unfortunately Obama’s run for the presidency is premature. Considering he had the incredible benefit of a door opening Harvard law degree his experience and accomplishments are underwhelming. He needs more experience on the national and international level before he is ready. Three years as some mediocre law firm associate (only second chairing cases) and 7 years as a state legislator just doesn’t cut it at this level. He’s lucky the stronger Republican Senate candidate suffered a campaign ending scandal in the middle of the race and all Obama had to run against was the certifiably insane Alan Keyes or Obama would still be back in Illinois. Obama has great potential and I like a lot about him but this campaign is an exercise in ego and it’s showing.

Maybe you have to be a little nuts to be as open and honest as Roseanne is. You go, girl.

msguidedmama @ 01/10/2008 at 12:36 pm

Wow! Not usually a fan of the screaming one, but I really like her points, and totally AGREE!!!!

Oprah is about the worst thing to happen to women this century.

well said Roseanne , i dont like oprah any more since she took side with that JA person

hello fans @ 01/10/2008 at 12:38 pm

Roseanne still has some fans lol.
she’s going to be happy about this she found some people who are as desperate as her.

I smell a fight in the horizon, the gloves are well and truly off on this one.

GO HILARY CLINTON WILL BE PRESIDENT AND VICE PRESIDENT IS OBAMA, IT IS GOING TO BE STRONG. FISRT TIME TO HAVE WOMAN PRESIDENT AND IF THE BRAIN OF CLINTON AND OBAMA JOIN, IT WILL GOING TO BE FANTASTIC AND AMERICA WILL BE STRONGEST COUNTRY AGAIN. I WANT HILARY TO WIN, BECAUSE WHEN BILL CLINTON WAS A LEADER, EVERYTIME THEY WILL DO SOMETHING GOOD FOR ALL THE HUMAN RACE AND THE WORLD, SOMEONE ALWAYS F..KING UP THEIR PLAN. HOPEFULLY THIS TIME, IF HILARY WILL WIN, THEY ALREADY KNOW WHAT TO DO. CLINTON HAVE TO FINISH ALL THE ORIGINAL PLAN FOR ALL AMERICAN PEOPLE. I AM CANADIAN BUT, I PAYED THAT ALL AMERICAN PEOPLE, LOOK AND LISTEN TO ALL CANDIDATES AND DON’T LOOK ANS LISTEN TO OPRAH. I DON’T WHY OPRAH IS PUTTING ALL HIS STRENGTH TO OBAMA, AND SHE IS TRYING TO TALK TO ALL THE ACTOR AND ACTRESS THAT SHE KNOWS AND BELIEVED AND LOOK AT HER AS ROLE MODEL TO VOTE OBAMA. OF COURSE THEY ALL DEMOCRATIC, BUT OPRAH AT FIRST I KIND OF LIKE YOU AND WATCHING YOUR SHOW. BUT WHEN YOU GO OUT THERE TO HELP OBAMA, I KIND OF LOST MY APPRECIATION TOWARDS YOU. I APPLAUDED THE STAR, THAT NEVER MENTION WHO ARE THEY GOING TO VOTE, BUT LISTEN AND LET THEIR EARS AND EYES WIDE OPEN AND LEARN WHO ARE THE BEST TO BE A LEADER. PEACE LOVE NOT WAR!

soo true!
I am voting with someone I am confident will do the best for us… VOTE HILLARY!!!!

I AGREE WITH #24 AND #27. AGAIN, OPRAH WANTS TO BE SUPERIOR BECAUSE SHE THINK, SHE IS SO GOOD, YOU CAN SEE THAT BY USING HER OWN NAME TO THAT SCHOOL IN AFRICA AND MAKE IT LIKE A PRIVATE SCHOOL FOR GIRLS ONLY. I BET YOU ALL THOSE MONEY SHE USED ARE FROM THE DONATION TO HER ANGEL WHATEVER. IF SHE REALLY WANT TO HELP, SHE DOESN’T NEED TO USE HER NAME AND MAKE A SCHOOL FOR BOYS AND GIRLS. GO HILARY, ALL WOMAN OUTHERE, TRY TO BE SMART AND USED YOUR OWN BRAIN. GO HILARY!

I AGREE WITH NUMBER 66

I certainly don’t like Roseanne BUT I agree with pretty much every point she makes.

I don’t mind Oprah but she does have a huge African-American chip on her shoulder even though White America accepted her a long time ago & made her what she is today. I think her support of Obama is more for her own satisfaction - it’s just about a black guy running america for her.

regardless of how u feel about roseanne it has to be said that she is a smart and somewhat politically savvy women. what she says is the truth and without a doubt clinton is the better choice for the dem’s. obama needs a little bit more experience, and needs to give us examples of the “changes” that he wants to make.

Oprah IS totaly all about the BLACK people!!! That is a given, she always has been. Backing Obama does her no good. Not because he is black but because he has little experiance. Quit frankly I have a problem with electing anyone with a Muslim name, I could care less if he is black. If he can do the job and do it right that is all that matters. I just don’t think he can, and I do NOT want someone to be president that has the same last name as most the people that want to blow us up!

10 Buttercup @ 01/10/2008 at 9:24 am I kinda agree with her. I mean, a black man becoming president of the USA, it’s a strong symbol and something I’d like happening during my lifetime. But indeed, Mrs Clinton has the experience! I’m torn.
——-
I can imagine voters being torn.
As a woman, I’d vote for the woman candidate, because it’s time a woman shows all those males politicians what a woman can do.
IMO, the ticket should be Clinton-Obama. Yes, that would be good!

Oh, Yeah, and Roseanne is just a loud, stupid, liberal, white trash, idiot, that no one cares a crap about!

You mean Osama, and that’s his first name. I think it’s Barack Obama’s middle name (Hussein?) that is/sounds Muslim.
Nothing wrong with that (what’s in a name), but I think if he became the candidate, the Republicans will bash him for his Muslim connection and scare the voters. I think the Republicans would love for the Democrats to choose Barack Obama.

Hi groundcontrol,
I also agree with re: your analysis of Hillary’s role during Bill Clinton’s presidency. Although Bill is the Rhodes, the mumblings during his Presidency was that she was the brains…I’m not saying this is true, but she is no dummy and is very policy savvy.

I disagree! People are giving their opinions. What’s wrong with that? Voters will make up their own minds. Some people already know, some like to read what others have to say and then decide.

Well, Roseanne is as ignorant as I thought she always was. This from a woman who married TOM ARNOLD???!!!!. Obama has a fresh take on the old school politics. Hillary is a manipulative, out to get em fake. She voted for the Iraq war TWICE! When her numbers were down, she went through a crying fit to show poor women how alike them she is and to get sympathy! I did not believe those shameful tears for a minute! In common with American women? Hillary has nothing in common with most poor or middle class women besides a physical commality of being female. She is a rich conniving political ***** who wants power. And she has always been filthy rich. Yeah, a lot in common! Roseanne needs to check Hillary’s record a bit. So isn’t Hillary playing the Gender card? Gouing after woman and claiming how alike them she is? Obama has not once discussed his race in thi race. Besides, Obama is BOTH black and White. His mother was white so Roseanne you are wrong there too. He only claims Black because that is how America sees him. His mother was White and his step-father was Asian. He is multi-cultural and that is wonderful. Roseanne izx just bitter that she is a has been who America wrote off after her show ended and after her awful singing of the anthem. She is not on the radar. Nobody cares about Rseanne and she is bitter that Oprah is still relevant and successful. And Roseanne, if you are such a feminist, why are you attacking another woman for doing and exercising her American right to support her candidate of choice???? Besides, she is living and working in Illinois. Onama is and was her Senator so she probably knows his work better. The Clintons are old school political machines that people are tired of. Hillary is the xame thing dressed in different costumes. She is fake. And I don’t buy this overnight new more compassionate Hillary. Give me a break. SDo a woman has to be a crying whining cow to be compassionate? Get yourself together Hillary and explain to us why 17 polls were strangely wrong on this outcome. No wonder Kerry just endorsed Obama. I am sick of Hillary and her fake tears. Besides, this is not a monarchy, just as we don’t need more Bushes in the White House, we don’t need another Clinton eventhough Bill did a good job. Time to make way for a fresher and more genuine American president.

For once, Roseanne hit the nail on the head.

Oprah hopes her mindless sheep will follow her wherever she wants to lead them.

As for Obama….here are the scary facts:
1. NO EXPERIENCE….Hillary has been in politics since her college years when she campaigned for Goldwater. He is a freshman senator.
2. Compared himself to JFK and MLK JR…….what kind of arrogant man would even dare say that? JFK was in the congress for 14 years, while MLK is a national hero. What have you done, Obama?
3. Is Muslim. This will not help with US and Middle East relations because he will not have US interests in mind, as Muslims always aid their Brothers first.
4. Will Not say the Pledge of Allegiance.
5. Makes speeches as if he were a PREACHER….gimme a break!
6. Is totally against abortion.

Do not elect this cocky, arrogant man who Dreams Big with no Plan. I guarantee if he is elected, there will be another 9/11 because foreigners will know that the US is now vulnerable. Why do u think they attacked when Bush came into office. They saw a weak man in office.

P.S. Ron Paul may sound like he has great ideas, but they are not realistic whatsoever….he is an idealist, which appeals to a lot of young, liberal people……but none of his plans would EVER be able to pan out because they are so extreme.

FYI: Obama is Christian. His father was Muslim.. People said Kennedy could not win because he was Catholic. America is greast. This is the land of all possibilities.

she is absolutely correct. Oprah is too much into herself to promote another strong woman.

Against abortion? That would be the only positive thing about him if it’s true. I can’t for the life of me understand why people can’t see the problem with that. I understand that abortion may HAVE to be used in some circumstance but those circumstances should be very huge medical and health issues. Not just because some loose woman wants to get rid of a baby. I am so sick of this even being an issue. More people worry about eating beef and all the poor, poor, little abused animals than they do about actual human babies being torn into pieces and thrown in the trash. Anyone who is FOR abortion loses my vote just for that!

Hi!
I think the Republicans will definitely do that, and if Hillary is the candidate, they will tell voters that Bill will be chasing interns.
You know, I don’t think he will. He will look, but he has no time to chase. He is older now. He has had heart surgery. He has been given a second chance at life. He will do everything to make it up to his wife and the people.
He would improve relations with other countries. WJC is very popular outside the US. He will go on raising money for charity and AIDS victims. He will only look at pretty girls. Nothing wrong with that? My husband looks at pretty girls. I look at cute guys.

What an idiot, oprah does not have to surport hilary just because shes a woman second oprah isn’t some crazy feminist b!tch like her so thats why she don’t like her, I would vote for obama anyday

I’ve never seen oprah insulting someone or bringing down other people like she and rosie does WHAT A HYPOCRITE its not about oprah because oprah is not the only big named celeb that support obama. This is about Obama himself just because she don’t like him she want to try and make him and people who like him look bad it might work for the idiots but it will not work for people like me because inteligent ppl see right thru her, she also said hilary has so called 35 years of experinces and obama has no ideas or plans , hilary have 35 years of experince doing WHAT? because I know its not politically experince and if obama does not have any plans then what plans does hilary have?? spare me the BS people should ignore her

Jared, you should have printed this with all of Roseanne’s grammar erros to show how completely illiterate she is. Besides are women, housewives, forgetting Hillary’s infamous statement years ago that she is not some “Tammy Winnette “Stand by your man woman baking cookies at home?”. Yeah Hillary, there are many women who happen to be housewives who care for their children and bake cookies at home. Are they not worth your vote or are they now that you want the Presidency? What a fake she is. Hmm, most self-respecting women would NOT stand by their men after he cheated on them with the office intern. But you did. Yeah, really feminist and progressive of you Hillary. ANd as for Roseanne, she married Tom Arnold. Case closed. This now “Z” list celeb has been is finished. She is poison. She is a nightmare to work with which is the reason why she has not been able to make a deal for a new show since her show ended. Roseanne, who is the publicity seeking has been now? Get a grip. You don’t have to vote for Hillary just cause she is a woman. You vote for who is real and genuine. Hillary is old school politics. And she needs to explain why she voted for the Iraq war twice.

That ugly COW is jealous that Oprah is so successful, and she’s not. Oprah has a long running tv talk show, and Roseanne the COW’s talk show bombed.

Hillary is a nasty mud slinger and the Republicans are gonna tear her ass up. All those scandals will resurface and it will be a damn circus if her phony ass is nominated. Whitewatergate, Monicagate, Travelgate, Vince Fostergate. All that will resurface.

So let me get this straight. Oprah is supporting Obama because he’s black and that is wrong. But Roseanne is supporting Hillary because she is a white woman and that’s okay. Oprah has the right to support any candidate she chooses, as does Roseanne. If this is the type of person that is supporting Hillary, and by that I mean a person who is willing to be divisive and racist, then there is no way that I would support a Hillary Presidency. It would be sad if the Dems became the party of the racists.

The problem with the anti-abortionist is they think those who are pro-choice are those who want abortions. They don’t! They want choice!
And like it or not it is less an ethical issue than an economic one. If abortion was illegal only the poor (the ones society allways wags their finger at) would be penalized. The rich, as they allways do, would find a way to circumvent such laws with no one. REAL liberals understand this fact of reality. If such laws came to be once again the majority of us would revert to apathy and indifference to those rich folks refusing to be ruined by such laws and the poor who we see as deserving their squalor. This is the truth; morality has allways had such contradictions determined as it were by privilege and wealth.

Exactly! I found it strange that some people wanted her to divorce him after what happened. Hey, he is her husband. He is her business. She helped him then. Now, if she makes it, he will help her.

It reminds me of people (haters) criticizing Brad for hooking up with Angie, a woman they call all kinds of ugly names. They are so wrong.
It’s his life, his decision. She is his business.
Then Brad said it’s the best thing he has ever done, the best thing that happened to him, and now the haters call him all kinds of ugly names too. Why do people like to interfere in other people’s private affairs!

One week is long in politics. It’s a few weeks before we know who will be the candidate. Very interesting!

Hi TeamLaraCroft,
I understand where you are coming from, but being a feminist does not automatically mean that you leave your husband because he “cheats” on you…it’s more complicated than that. There are also many women, who are feminists whose husbands have “cheated” on them and for many reasons chose to work through the process than be angry and just leave.
You are spouting “angry” feminist rhetoric and I don’t mean to be critical, but as a long time feminist myself, not strident like many, but politically active, my associates who hold public offices, have fraternized with Bella Abzug and the like would not jump to such conclusions and to criticize another woman’s approach to such a delicate issue…that is what true feminism is about…each woman makes up her own mind and follows through in her own manner. The original premise of Feminism as Steinem Friedan, Chisholm and many others worked towards is the spirit that women have a choice and have equal opportunity…not about being angry, bitchy or the like. Please take another look at feminism from a historical point of view and do not deviate from it’s true intent.

Rosanne is right. Other public figures are too afraid to call Oprah out.

You would think Oprah’d support a woman with a lot of experience and determination, being one herself and knowng how hard it is to succeed among men in an industry dominated by males.

Instead she chose race as her determining factor. Obama is trully selling a dream without a plan. He is not certain about any issue, exept his stupid sales pitch “Americans are ready for change”. He is clueless.

P.S: H.Clinton has more balls than Obama ever wished he had

Amen to that! Although I would definitely divorce my husband if he cheated on me, but that’s because there are too many diseases out here nowadays to mess around like that. But I won’t knock another woman if she decides to do the opposite. It’s her choice and she’s the one who’s got to live with her decision in the end, not me.

cocoahomme @ 01/10/2008 at 4:33 pm

For the light of me, I’m at a loss on why people think Hillary Clinton has more experience than Obama. She was NOT the president of the United States, her husband was. The only position she has held outside of the White House is being a senator which is the exact same position Obama was in. She went to law school, but so did Obama so Im loss on how Senator Clinton is now more experienced when you look at hindsight, they are both pretty equal for as education and political position. I’m no offense to Sen. Clinton bc I love her but Im just calling a spade a spade.

______________________________________________________

You are right feminism was created to give women options, respect, credibility and to empower themselves.

Women were treated as second class citizens in America until the feminist movement was created and helped to improve the plight of women. You are also correct there are many women who do not leave their husband because he’s cheated, but you have to be a DAMNED fool to stick with a man who is constantly disrespecting you. It has nothing to do with being angry or bitter. It is about self-respect and Hilary in this situation seems to lack it. It takes more strength to walkaway from a bad situtation, than to stay and take the abuse.

Lewinsky Fowers were just two we know about, I am pretty sure there are more. What type of marriage do you have when you have one partner who cannot keep their vows? Why would you stay with a man who constantly disrespects you? Simple, she knows a divorce would ruin her chances at the Presidency, that is why she stays with him.

I hate to admit it but I kinda agree with her on most of these points.
Oprah’s power over women does go the wrong way many times. With her current power, she needs to be extra careful about what she endorses. Remember that million pieces book? Do your homework and check the quality of what u endorse. Dr. Phil is a bad enough mistake for all your life

“The problem with the anti-abortionist is they think those who are pro-choice are those who want abortions. They don’t! They want choice!”
neil,
thank you for stating this. There is no interpretation, pro-choice is pro-choice…why do dissenters want to interpret and have their misinterpretations become “fact” that was never intended nor implied!

So now look at the silly women arguing something inane like infidelity instead of arguing policy.

Who cares about Hillary and her marriage, none of my business personally. I don’t like her because of her association with Bush and Co. I don’t trust her because she voted for Iraq. I don’t like her because she will be por-big business and not pro-hard working American.

OBAMA/EDWARDS 2008 for me.

Well, Roseanne is as ignorant as I thought she always was. This

from a woman who married TOM ARNOLD???!!!!. Obama has a fresh

take on the old school politics. Hillary is a manipulative, out to get em

fake. She voted for the Iraq war TWICE! When her numbers were

down, she went through a crying fit to show poor women how alike

them she is and to get sympathy! I did not believe those shameful

tears for a minute! In common with American women? Hillary has

nothing in common with most poor or middle class women besides a

physical commality of being female. She is a rich conniving political

***** who wants power. And she has always been filthy rich. Yeah, a

lot in common! Roseanne needs to check Hillary’s record a bit. So

isn’t Hillary playing the Gender card? Gouing after woman and

claiming how alike them she is? Obama has not once discussed his

race in thi race. Besides, Obama is BOTH black and White. His

mother was white so Roseanne you are wrong there too. He only

claims Black because that is how America sees him. His mother was

White and his step-father was Asian. He is multi-cultural and that is

wonderful. Roseanne izx just bitter that she is a has been who

America wrote off after her show ended and after her awful singing of

the anthem. She is not on the radar. Nobody cares about Rseanne

and she is bitter that Oprah is still relevant and successful. And

Roseanne, if you are such a feminist, why are you attacking another

woman for doing and exercising her American right to support her

candidate of choice???? Besides, she is living and working in Illinois.

Onama is and was her Senator so she probably knows his work

better. The Clintons are old school political machines that people are

tired of. Hillary is the xame thing dressed in different costumes. She

is fake. And I don’t buy this overnight new more compassionate

Hillary. Give me a break. SDo a woman has to be a crying whining

cow to be compassionate? Get yourself together Hillary and explain to

us why 17 polls were strangely wrong on this outcome. No wonder

Kerry just endorsed Obama. I am sick of Hillary and her fake tears

Besides, this is not a monarchy, just as we don’t need more Bushes

in the White House, we don’t need another Clinton eventhough Bill

did a good job. Time to make way for a fresher and more genuine

American president.

Team LaraCroft, kudos to you!
I just had to repost your post, and space it out so the bigotted, neanderthals on this thread can read it slowly and try to understand what youve said.

Its amazing how entrenched are such ailments as bigotry, racism and sexism in the minds of unevolved humans. These are EXACTLY some of the kinds of things that Obama is talking about when he talks about CHANGE and HOPE and our innate human ability to strive for and achieve something BETTER for ourselves, our family, our country.

Forget that pathetic has-been, roseanne; forget oprah. Look in the mirror and FACE your own fears. Imagine……….more than one person here on this thread have talked about not wanting a president with a name like BARRACK HUSSEIN OBAMA. Well, i think you all better get used to seeing it and saying it.

There is no doubt in my mind that Obama will be President of the United States of America. It is destiny unfolding.

Just think: he’s a symbol of hope for so many people around the world. Do you think its only americans who want peace and an end to the war in iraq? 150,000 iraqis dead. Do you think their life is less valuable than our own?

That america is able to elect a man with such a mixed heritage - a heritage encompassing different races and religions - and one who inspries so many people AROUND THE WORLD to reach for the seemingly impossible dream of UNITY among diverse peoples and HOPE for a better way of BEING and DOING, is sheer DESTINY at work.

The Universe is unfolding as it should. Get on board, if youre smart.

“What type of marriage do you have when you have one partner who cannot keep their vows?”
There are many different types of marriages and people marry for different reasons and they are all valid as long as the two parties involved are okay with it. There are also open marriages…not that I am saying the Clintons have one, which I do not think they do. Disrespect and respect come in different forms, it’s not just in the bedroom. I think Bill Clinton has tremendous respect for Hillary as a working partner, as a comrade in the political arena, as a mother and as a intelligent individual.
None of these are wrong, incorrect, bad nor does it come to the automatic conclusion that because Bill Clinton had affairs that they should get divorced. You are only a damned fool if you are in denial of your husbands affairs, you have no self respect if you do not confront him about it and ignore the problems involved.
It has little to do with “strength to walkaway from a bad situation…” being a President you cannot “walk away from a bad situation”…it’s about negotiation, facilitation and coming to mutual resolutions. In fact the stresses that the Clintons have undergone have put her in a position of strength and decision making for the better of the whole not for the self. As a nation, we are a whole.

and that’s the premise of taking responsibility for your own choices and as you state “she’s the one who’s got to live with her decision in the end…” It is not our decision to judge or criticize why Hilliary stays married for whatever her reasons. that is why it is referred to as “choice” and that is feminism, in its simplest form.

Feminists do not hate men. They are for empowering women and if you do it right, you actually understand men more.

TiredofthisCrap @ 01/10/2008 at 5:53 pm

Sorry, but her marital woes have everything to do with her political career. Her husband was almost impeached for his philandering and are we really ready for more of Bill Clinton public affairs? Didn’t his near impeachment cause the Republicans to win both the Senate and House during that mid-year elections? Whether you like it or not, it did affect the 2000 Presidential races. Those evangelicals could not seperate Gore from Clinton, no matter how hard he tried. They came out to vote in mass numbers and that is one of the reason why Gore lost. ( iknow Florida, but the race should not have came down to ONE state). They took states that should have been easy Democratic wins. So please don’t hand me that crap what the do in their marriage is their business, because in this case it is not true. What they do in their marriage affects all of us!

As far as her politics and policies are concerned, I would never vote for her because I see her as a weak link who only votes for what is popular. She could have easily made a stand against Iraq,. As many of you stated she was the First Lady with privvy to information that most of us don’t have and she knew damn well that Iraq did not have WMD. So what did she do, she stood and voted for a war that she knew was wrong. Iraq didn’t develop an arsenal that large in the three years since she left the office. She could have been vocal and pointed out the her and her constituents really needed the focus to be on capturing Osama Bin Laden. Her medical plan that she was developing the whole time never took off. There are so many things, but I’ll end it here.

I am a black woman ( Caribbean) and i would not vote for Barack Obama.

And dont get me started on Oprah. Go Hilary!!

I lost respect for Oprah a LONG time ago. Her getting behind Obama just ads another reason not to vote for him. He has no experience. AND a man who refuses to salute the flag during the Pledge of Allegiance, will NEVER get my vote.

Ouch indeed! Although I strongly agree with some parts of point 4.

I’m a dual citizen of both Canada and France so I have no say in who gets to become President. The best that I can hope for is that he or she will be a vast improvement on George Bush. Whether Americans like it or not, your current president is not exactly a popular person outside the United States. Just about anyone from my view point would be better than him.

What I dont understand, and never have understood, is the American preoccupation with a candidates marriage , children-or lack of children. Nor do I understand the preoccupation with his/her religious beliefs. I was taught by mother and father that another person’s religous beliefs are private and none of my business. A president should be, and this is only the opinion of an outsider, elected solely on his/her track record and experience. Race , gender, religious beliefs and who his/her husband/wife is should not matter.

Our Prime Minister is Stephen Harper. I honestly cannot tell you the name of his wife, how many children he has, their names, or even if has had more than one wife. I cannot honestly tell what his religious beliefs are or are not, nor can I tell you what church he goes to,if at all. For myself and many others here in Canada those issues are simply not important. I did not vote for Harper based on who is wife and children are. I didnot vote for Harper based on how he does or does worship God. I voted for the man based on his stated policies, his track record, and his experience.

And i think the same will hold true for Sarkozy in France. My relatives find his lifestyle interesting and fun to watch. But at the end of day, it will be how he performs his duties as President of France that will determine if he gets re-elected. Not his romance and possible marriage to his current girl friend.

You all want a president that cracks under pressure for pete sakes she freakin cried because she was under alot of stress!! Ya, let’s vote for a faker!!!! Hillary your so full of crap like your husband (The one that didn’t inhale and the one that didn’t have sex with “That woman”!!! Rosanne go back to what you have been doing “NOTHING” because your a nobody!!

I usually can’t stand Rosanne, but i got to say..in my opinion, there’s a lot of truth in what she said about Oprah - especially about other women. Oprah does come across as wanting to be the only woman trying to make a ‘change’…wow there’s that word again.

I’m not a fan of Barrack - He’s got no experience - Hillary does.
You know what would be great?…If Ellen Degeneres Endorsed Hillary and make it a war of the daytime talk shows lol..

well put, CHE #23 - what a great post

Roseanne has posted some wacky ass stuff on her blog before, but more often than not, she’s right, she’s very insightful and this is no exception

SHE IS SO RIGHT!! VOTE HILLARY!

Roseanne Barr is trash. I can’t stand her. Who’s playing the race card? B…….tch.

Vote Barack. At least he has been consistent. Hillary voted for the war. Case closed. And like someone said, what do you want someone with more experience who has been making mistakes longer or someone who has a little less but has made all the right decisions? Bush has lots of experience but do you all want him as your leader? Hillary is so see through. boo hoo crying to be the more compassionate Hillary. GIVE ME A BREAK. Overnight Hillary? Overnight? She is so fake. If she is the candidate eventhough I am a die hard Democrat - I will vote Independent. I refuse to vote for her fakeness.

Also, I was not saying that a woman who accepts her husband’s cheating can’t be a feminist. I am simply saying her attitude toward Bill’s philandering is at odds with this strong woman and self-respecting woman. I am led to believe she stayed with him for political reasons and not for love and trust. That over-calculating is what turns me off from her. She is sooooooo calculating. She attacked women who stayed home and “baked cookies” but what about her who stood by Bill despite his disrespect of her? I am just saying she is a hypocrite.

Yes, Hilary voted for the war and has admitted that much. That is why I trust that she will have a better strategy in easing our troop presence in Iraq. What is BO going to do? Pout and yank everyone out immediately because he never voted for war in the first place? Despite his tough, hope talk, strategy and diplomacy are still more pragmatic. Like many, Hilary now sees the truth and difficulty in dealing with Iraq (heck, the whole region for that matter) and with her foreign policy experience, I certainly trust her ability more than BO’s.

People should make up their mind about Oprah. First they criticize her for being too nice to Whites by hugging her guests, or having White guests or starting the careers of Dr. Phil, Rachel Ray and so many others. But when she chooses the candidate from her home state as her favorite candidate, people claim she is a racist. Make up your minds. Maybe YOU are all seeing race in this. Like I said before, Obama’s mother is WHite. His father was not in his life afte rthe age of 2 or 4 then he lived with a step-father who was Asian. He is mulitcultural - a concept that so many of you who are so attacked to old ways of thinking cannot grasp. Obama has traveled in many worlds. The realityy is when you are running for the Presidency of America, people want you to define yourself so he has no choice but to identify as Black because that is how so many see him but his life experience and his genetics are more complex than that. His mother was White. Oprah has helped many many White people in her life -. But I guess people just skip over this minor fact. And like I said before, Roseanne is known to be a completely imbalanced psycho that no one likes to work with. She had huge problems working in Hollywood which is why she has since not been able to get a deal. She is just an angry cow. Also, with Obama supporters you are seeing something revolutionary - people who are registered Rebublicans find themselves supporting him as are Democrats. There is no “you have to” when choosing a candidate. We, as Americans, have the right to support who we like and who is the former Mrs Tom Arnold to tell us or anyone how to think? Tis from the same woman who claims when she was a newborn, she has recollections of her mother abusing her - she remembers this, she claims, from her days as a newborn. The woman is a mess. And she needs to shut up and get used to being a has been rather that yapping in her illiterate way. Please.

What does Roseanne stand for?? She’s just upset because Oprah is not promoting her candidate of choice–Hillary. Hill and Bill are noted crooks (remember Whitewater) and Roseanne should be trying to get the vote out of others of their ilk rather than criticizing Oprah.

I don’t particularly like Oprah either but she can support whomever she wants, as can the rest of us.

With obama’s inexperience, he’s just hasn’t much of the opportunity to become too apparently crooked yet. But he will. Don’t buy his change message wholesale. You’ll only be disappointed, but by then it’s too late.

Hilary for president… She is a strong white black asian latino woman!!! Due to the universal understanding that she is a woman and SMARTER than her husband. And she held her family in place even after all that stupid scandal her husband caused… She got that chain around her husband’s neck!! Stay and shut the f*ck up, b|tch!! Yip, that’s indeed true, all he can do is bad-mouth other candidates and repeat the word ‘change’ endlessly, without an actual plan.

Exotic Goddess @ 01/11/2008 at 1:04 am

Roseanne is right. Absolutely so. On every point she nailed it. She gets it.

Oprah is either a dimwit or a tool of political and corporate thieves. By pushing for Arnold she pushed for the Energy Giants who are robbing us all. She only protects her own personal interests. Oprah has always struck me as either dumb or a religious freak pushing it as dope to those among female housewives who are brainwashed to bow down to men. She’s the hokiest of them all, I was never fooled or a fan. She tries to sound hip but she always sounds ghetto. She’s never said a thing intelligent. She promotes hack writers with madeup backgrounds. She’s a product spokesman, that’s all.

Obama would make a decent used car salesman. He comes off as an insincere Southern Baptist minister. His voice is grating AND he says nothing. He speaks in generalities that stink of cliches and religious hogwash such as “yes we can” stealing that from the Villaraigoso campaign, a slogan that I started online along with “take back America” which meant all of us Americans taking it back from the oligarchs and bankers, it had nothing to do with ethnicity. Obama Hussain is boring, and appears extremely vain. He might appeal to robots. He’s waiting air time, diluting the issues. He might as well be just chanting “Jesus loves you” as if that means anything. It’s impossible for dead men to love anything or anyone. Even if my late grandmother left me ten million dollars she’d still be incapable of loving anything from six feet under. But I can say with all truthfulness she loved me. Hussain reminds me of that militant radical minister who was killed for preaching violence against whites without even knowing what a white person is. I mean if all whites are alike then all blacks are alike, that’s more truth than the dead black minister would admit, but in his small mindedness that’s what his ignorant ideas suggested. When I walk past the TV set I flick Hussain’s face with my fingers and tell him to shut his stupid mouth. I’d rather watch my billionth Tide commercial. The last thing this country needs right now or ever is an idiot minister/amatueur in the executive positive.

I hate phonies.

LMAO @ Oprah being a “closet racist” (someone commented). Every successful black person must be some sort of racist somehow, just because.

Way to go Roseanne!!!
I fully agreee with you on this one.

She is a nut and Oprah isn’t the only person who owns land in California. What if she plays the race card? Why can’t a person of color as if you are white sad but true the world IS your oyster. They are all better than what the US has had for 8 yrs. Intelligent, articulate and have been in politics. AND TO THE PERSON WHO SAID OBAMA WANT WIN BECAUSE
AMERICA IS NOT READY FOR A BLACK PRESIDENT.

YOUR SO WRONG THE POLLS ARE PROOF. OBAMA WON IOWA AND WOULD HAVE WON N.H IF HILLARY WOULD NOT HAVE TURNED ON THE WATER WORKS WITH HER SOB STORY BY CRYING. WHAT A WUSS. THE FEMALE VOTER FELT SORRY FOR HER AND GAVE HER THEIR VOTES. (THE CRYING GAME). HER CRY WAS SO FAKE WHATEVER.

TiredofthisCrap @ 01/11/2008 at 10:09 am

Here’s one of the reasons why the evangelical came out ot vote in 2000: Gay marriage. It was a new issue but important to those who cared.

Gore did not even win his home state that year. They couldn’t separate him because he did not come out to denounce Clinton until the very end, by then it was too late for him. The Evangelicals wanted to know the same BS that went on during the Clinton Admin. wouldn’t go on with him. It was more or less a scare tactic used by the Republicans, vote Democrat and the country would turn to Sodom and Gomarrah(sp).

http://www.usatoday.com/news/opinion/columnist/shapiro/2004-11-04-hype_x.htm

Concerned republican @ 01/11/2008 at 12:13 pm

Hiliary has no experience. She has been in politics for years and done nothing. She and her husband take credit for the wealth of the economy, when the truth is the economy is cyclical and not controlled by the government. The sad part is there are no candidates worthy of a vote at this time. They all change their directions when in different states. Hilary promised health care reform. She had no control or ability to change it. Nor do any other candidates. The solution to taxes is to eliminate all tax shelters at any income level and have a flat tax of between 8 and 10%. Having lived in several states I find Illinois to be the most corrupt, hitting the utilities and taxpayers to correct the errors of not budgeting and cutting costs. The fact is any president has to work with Congress. We need to clean house at all levels, state and federal and start all over!!

WAY TO GO ROSEANNE - COULDN’T AGREE WITH YOU MORE. OPRAH IS THE MOST SANCTIMONIOUS PERSON - AND DR. PHIL, PLEASE. WITH YOU ON OBAMA. THANKS FOR SPEAKING OUT! KEEP GOING - YOU’RE ACTUALLY, AS ALWAYS THINKING FOR YOURSELF… BUT I LOVE OPRAH THE SHEEP SAY … YUK - DO THEY EVEN KNOW WHY THEY “LOVE” OPRAH????? I KNOW WHY I DON’T LIKE HER AND IT BEGINS WITH WHAT SHE DID TO JAMES FRY - AFTER THAT - I CAN’T EVEN SAY ENOUGH BAD THINGS ABOUT HER - I EVEN WONDERED IF PEOPLE WHO LIKE OBAMA- NOT- WOULD BE DISSUADED BECAUSE OF THE CHEESE FACTOR OF HER AUDIENCE - SHE EXPLOITED HER TV AUDIENCE WHEN SHE TURNED HER AND THEIR ATTENTION ON OBAMA. … WHO WOULD WANT TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH HER AUDIENCE I THOUGHT; THEY’RE A BUNCH OF MIDDLE OF THE ROAD - PRETEND SPIRITUAL SEEKERS, NOT, WHO SIT ON THEIR ASSES AND WATCH OPRAH AT FOUR IN THE AFTERNOON WHILE THEIR CHILDREN OR WHATEVER TAKE NAPS….. I MUST STOP MYSELF, SHE JUST MAKES MY BLOOD BOIL - OBAMA IS INCONSEQUENTIAL, BUT OPRAH COULD BE DANGEROUS.

really does look like it. no one good running anyway

205 HARRY @ 01/11/2008 at 7:53 am EVERYBODY’S TALKING ABOUT EXPERENCE.

EXPERENCE DOESN’T MAKE YOU BETTER THAN THE LESS EXPERENCE.

LOOK AT GEORGE BUSH, HE HAS ALL THE EXPERENCE IN THE WORLD. AND LOOK AT WHERE WE ARE TODAY.

AT WAR………………………………………………

DON’T TALK TO ME ABOUT EXPERENCE

OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT, WE NEED CHANGE.
OPRAH IS NOT A RACIST, WHY CAN’T A BLACK PERSON VOTE FOR ANOTHER BLACK PERSON WITHOUT BEING A RACIST.

OPRAH SAID SHE LIKE HILLARY, BUT SHE WANT CHANGE.
AND OBAMA CAN DELIVER THAT CHANGE.

ROSEANNE IS A LOUD MOUTH TROUBLE MAKER. THAT’S TRYING TO CAUSE A RIFT BETWEEN BLACKS AND WHITES. NOT OPRAH.

NOBODY’S COMPLAINED ABOUT BARBARA STRISAND. CALLING HER OUT BECAUSE SHE SUPPORTS A WHITE WOMAN. GET REAL. IT’S JUST AN ENDORSEMENT PEOPLE.
——-
No, Harry! The reason we are where we are today is because W is NOT experienced. Btw, it’s experience, not experence,

Whether it’s Hillary or Barack, either one will be a first, a change, for the USA. First woman or first African-American.

Check out another website about Oprah Winfrey and her connection to the child sex slavery, fake priests and other bizarre cults.

http://www.newspiritualbible.com/index1

I’m not a big fan of Rosanne, but I have to say I agree with her. I haven’t liked Oprah since she did that road trip show with Gayle where some very odd things happened like:

1) The most powerful woman in the world can’t figure out how to check herself into a hotel? I guess Oprah is like the aliens from Signs who can fly their alien asses from some far away galaxy in a spaceship but can’t seem to figure out how to turn a door ****
2)Oprah’s been best friends with Gayle since they were in their 20’s but never knew that her tone deaf friend likes to sing with the radio

I was okay with Obama till Oprah backed him, now if he wins the democrat nomination instead of Hillary…..I’ll probably vote Republican…let me go barf now.

Hello Roise
You go Roise everyone acts like their scared of Oparah. I’m not and im glad to fine Someone else who aint.Oprah is a fake white people made oprah with her racist ass.

I saw post #205 yesterday and was tempted to post that GW DOES NOT have experience and I was going to mention that if elected Hillary would be the FIRST women. HARRY totally missed that “change” and that tells you alot about HARRY…gosh we have some psychic action going on here…you beat me to it…can’t believe it…kind of spooky.
PS I was also going to mention that GW spurred his anger and subsequent war with Iraq based on the fact that Hussein had a hit on his Daddy, he even made a statement to that effect.

208 TiredofthisCrap @ 01/11/2008 at 10:09 am

Here’s one of the reasons why the evangelical came out ot vote in 2000: Gay marriage. It was a new issue but important to those who cared.

Gore did not even win his home state that year. They couldn’t separate him because he did not come out to denounce Clinton until the very end, by then it was too late for him. The Evangelicals wanted to know the same BS that went on during the Clinton Admin. wouldn’t go on with him. It was more or less a scare tactic used by the Republicans, vote Democrat and the country would turn to Sodom and Gomarrah(sp).

Yes, and then he sent other people’s children to fight a country that had nothing to do with 9/11. As Matt Damon said, he should have sent his daughters too.

Obama is a good speaker, but many say that he needs more time. He hasn’t been a senator for very long. He also hasn’t explained what changes he is talking about, what changes he plans to make.
“Yes, we can” what?

Hillary has a very important plan, her health plan. It didn’t work last time, but I hear that changes have been made, and some commentators say it’s now doable.
With 47 (?) million people with no health insurance, something has to be done for them. If it’s true what I heard on TV, apparently the health/pharmaceutical industry has already started courting her, probably expecting her to win in November.
Then Iowa happened……., but then New Hampshire happened…….
It’s many months till November! If the Democrats aren’t careful, the opponents will probably win the WH again!

“Hillary has a very important plan, her health plan. It didn’t work last time,…”

and the major hitch is no one individual in Washington (or any state government for that matter) at a level of power who can make “change” can do it alone. The check and balance system does work but manipulaters in this government have made it into “The Art of Politics, Lesson 101”.

She’s one to call the kettle black, when she is supporting Hillary CLinton because she’s a woman…

First , let’s stop repeating this fake “35 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE”. She’s only been in the Senate for several years…

The only 35 years of experience Hillary Clinton has is tolerating her husband’s deviant behavior…

Finally, David Brooks stated that Karl Rove, George Bush and **** Cheney want Hillary to be President, even over the Repulican candidates because she will continue the Afghanistan/Iraq policies…

No need to argue about experience. Hillary definitely has more experience than Obama.

I don’t believe the winner, whether Rep or Dem, would be able to pull out the troops immediately, which is what I’m guessing the majority of the people want. Do you know that the US maintains over 700 bases around the world? (heard it on CNN, I think).
Also, “better to fight them there than having to fight them here,” which I find rather arrogant. Apparently, people from other countries don’t matter!

Can’t remember who said it first, but I’ve heard that SO MANY times. It must be government policy. Maybe W himself said it too, but I don’t know.
Invading a country that didn’t do 9/11, causing the death of thousands of innocent people, maiming thousands and causing thousands to flee, creating refugees/displaced people (the people that Angie visited), destroying property, infrastructure…
Iraq is an old, historic country. It’s ruined now. I hope rebuilding it doesn’t mean putting McDonalds and burger places and Starbucks everywhere.

Now they’re thinking of doing the same to Iran (???). Have you been to Iran? I have. It’s a beautiful country, but I’m not crazy about the food. They like lamb and I don’t eat lamb!
Are they really planning to drop bombs on Iran? It would be worse than Iraq. Iran is not another Iraq. I guess, as long as the battlefield is far from mainland USA…….
Sorry, this is OT. We’re supposed to discuss Roseanne criticizing Oprah (Okra ).

I’ve been posting in democraticunderground for a few years now. My screenname there will remain a secret.

I agree with Roseanne. The first thing I thought when Oprah endorsed Obama is that his being (part) black is the primary reason. There are definitely other Democratic candidates who have much more to offer than Obama, but Oprah is bedazzled by Obama primarily because of his race. Now, I think it is fine if a black woman wants to advance black causes. That’s only natural. But, I can see it now, should Obama lose…we’ll hear about it on her show…how devastated she is…just like we heard about how devastated she was over the movie Beloved’s failure.

Also, did anyone notice how her manner of speech changes when she stumping for Obama on the campaign trail? What’s that all about? She suddenly turns all “historical” sounding on us like she’s acting in a movie like Roots or something and she does not sound like herself.

I watch CSPAN extensively to see what the candidates are saying. Doing that and reading their detailed plans on their websites is the best way to get info on the candidates — not through mainstream media. Obama really does not have the multi-faceted grasp on the issues like several of the other Democratic candidates. He just speaks in an esoteric, high level way about concepts — like “hope” — that have no real nitty gritty underlying it. I think he has been entirely overrated and the spin put on him as a viable candidate has been over the top. Too much glitz, not enough substance.

Senators Biden, Dodd, Clinton and Governor Richardson and Representative Kucinich have the seasoned grasp on all matters affecting our country. Any of them would be exponentially better as president than Obama. Like Hillary said “words are not enough, it takes hard work”. Obama strikes me as one of those motivational speakers who wow people’s ears but have very few practical tools that people can use to get real and lasting results.

I agree with other commentators that too many women blindly follow Oprah’s lead without employing their own critical thinking skills (if they have any). Oprah pushes a lot of peculiar things that give these women false hope — like new age-y books like “Seat of the Soul” and “The Secret”.

Don’t get me wrong however. I like Oprah and watch her show somewhat regularly. She clearly does many good and wonderful things to make an impact in this world for good. But, I think this Obama thing is misguided.

OPRAH IS NOT SUPPORTING OBAMA BECAUSE HE IS HALF BLACK.
THAT”S STUPIDITY TALK. OPRAH IS A GOOD FRIEND OF OBAMA SHE HAS KNOWN HIM FOR YEARS. THEY BOTH LIVE IN CHICAGO ILL. WHERE OBAMA IS A SENATOR. OPRAH SAID ON LARRY KING THAT SHE WOULD SUPPORT OBAMA IF HE RUNS FOR PRESIDENT.
BEFORE OBAMA EVEN ANNOUNCED THAT HE WAS GOING TO RUN FOR PRESIDENT (HE WAS UNDECIDED). SO RACE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HER ENDORSING HIM.

I CAN’T BELIEVE HOW MANY PEOPLE ON THIS BLOG THINKS THAT OPRAH IS A RACIST JUST BECAUSE SHE MADE A CHOICE TO ENDORSE OBAMA. AFTER EVERYTHING OPRAH HAVE GIVEN WHITE/BLACKS/LATINO ETC……. NOT TO MENTION ALL THE CHARITY AND DONATIONS SHE HAVE GIVEN AROUND THE WORLD.

HAVE YOU ASKED WHY ROSEANNE BARR & BARBARA STRISAND SUPPORTS HILLARY, DID YOU CALL THEM A FEMINIST.

I THINK THAT ALL YOU THAT HATE OPRAH & THINK THAT SHE’S A RACIST, MAY NEED TO LOOK DEEP INSIDE YOURSELVES YOU MAY FIND OUT THAT IT’S YOU NOT OPRAH THAT’S THE RACIST.

Obama went to Columbia for college and Harvard for law school, worked to correct the death penalty system in Illinois, worked to help endangered and poor youth in Chicago, taught constitutional law at a top law school in the country, served the state legislature for 8 years and served in the senate. He has been serving longer than Hillary and he’s being serving longer than when Bill Clinton was elected as President. Hillary has only served 1 term in public office (less than 3 years to date). It’s funny that people say that Obama is not qualified considering all that he has done. He didn’t come from a rich family like Hillary. He was raised in a poor single-mother household so considering what he has achieved; his rise to success should be celebrated. Why do people think that if the politician actually cares about people and inspires them to get involved then there must something wrong with them. It is possible to have charisma and brains, its not that far fetched of concept. Why do people think it’s so crazy to have hope that if you work hard and work together you can rise above the obstacles in being poor. Should only people who are well off- and well connected have the right to run for president? If that’s the case, then by definition you are saying that President Bill Clinton was unfit to run in 1992. Read the foreign press they are going crazy at the possibility of Obama being president. Lets think about this for second, Bush in 1988, Clinton in 1992, Bush in 2000, ????? in 2008, do you really want to continue this Bush -Clinton war. The presidency is not a monarchy, and legacy it’s about the future of this country.

i don’t think people here are saying that only well off or well connected people have the right to run for president. no way. you’ve just disproven your point in that bill clinton did not have a background of being “well off” anymore than obama. also obama clearly is “well connected” with oprah and many other celebrities endorsing him…he’s brought in the most millions in campaign financing.

also, i don’t see what the clintons have to do with “war”. if it were to turn out to be a bush-clinton-bush-clinton string of presidents, there are only two of the four who have brought us into war and they don’t start with a “c”.

also, i don’t think most people posting here think oprah is a racist…just that we doubt she would hit the trail for any other candidate, only now that one is (half) black. She does have an agenda…it is only natural being as she is black and she wants to advance black causes. Doesn’t mean that is wrong or racist, but, that also doesn’t mean obama is necessarily the best choice for president just because influential oprah is endorsing him. I would have no qualms voting for obama if i thought he had the qualifications that some of the other candidates have (had). although if he does turn out to be the nominee, sure, i’ll vote for him. i think too many people are influenced by charisma and not enough by objectivity.

^^Siritz, is Arnold Schwarznegger half black too? You make no sense.

Hillary’s health care plan terrifies me. It will put undo burden of care on poor people who couldn’t much afford, and give too much power to the health insurance industry. I’m not voting for her because I don’t agree with her plans and I clearly see her for what she is, a Bush in sheeps clothing.

clinton bush crime family @ 01/13/2008 at 2:52 pm

Hillary is a member of the Bush crime family - Bill and Hill gained entry when he, as governor of Arkansas, allowed Iran-Contra drugs to be smuggled in and out of his airport in Mena, Arkansas - under Poppy’s direction.
IF they do not believe they can get away with cancelling elections (they have put in place all the legal means to do so) they will only allow the crown to rest on the head of someone they completely control. Enter Hill - perfect choice. Member of the clan, first woman Prez, a “Democrat” - and she will love being a “dictator” dancing to Poppy’s tune.
Of course Rover is laying the groundwork to put her in place - IF they decide they need her. It is part of the grand plan.
It keeps the dog and pony show of Dems and Repubs going - behind the curtains they are one and the same. No “leading” Dem has a program different than the one now in place.
The only ones who propose meaningful change - like restoring the Constitution - can’t get a voice in the MSM - Mike Gravel, Dennis Kucinich and Ron Paul. All the “leading” “candidates” are part of the charade.
Important fact to remember when considering Hill - she knew when she voted to go into Iraq that there were no “WMD”. She knew they had been destroyed by 1995. She knew and Bill knew and Gore knew and all of the top crew under Clinton knew.
On August 7, 1995 Gen. Hussein Kamel, Saddam’s son-in-law and former director of Iraq’s Military Industrialization Corporation, in charge of Iraq’s weapons programme, defected to Joran and into the arms of the UN inspectors and the CIA. He brought crates of documents on past weapons programs. His testimony (http://www.casi.org.uk/info/unscom950822.pdf) that all WMD had been destroyed was corroborated but kept secret. He was lured back to Iraq and killed for his treason.
Newsweek broke the story February 24, 2003 but no one paid much attention to its significance. It is the proof that all at the top knew that all WMD had been destroyed due to the pressure from the presence of UN inspectors - the inspections worked and everyone at the top knew it.
So, not only did Powell, Bush, Rove, Rumsfeld, et al, know -BUT HILLARY, BILL, GORE et al KNEW TOO - yet they said not a word and she voted to bomb a country she knew was no threat to anyone.
Of course, they want her in if they feel forced to allow “elections” - she is already programmed to sit on the throne - there are great rewards for keeping your mouth shut.

I watch Oprah too, the whole thing or just a ittle, depending on the guest(s) or subject. She can support whomever she likes, and I bet she’s chuffed that a fellow African-American is a candidate.
I’m sure she is friendly with Hillary too, but it’s only natural that she decided to endorse Obama.

Roseanne can disagree. They just cancel each other’s vote.
Everybody has just one vote. In the end, it depends on destiny. It will be interesting. The US will either have it’s first female or it’s first African-American leader after W.

I personally don’t think he was necessarily influenced by a “stirring speech”, John Kerry is a loose cannon (besides being boring). He is also hitching on a momentum because he doesn’t want to be left behind what might be one of two futures…he sees the writing on the wall and had to choose. He won’t support Clinton because there is no love loss between him and the Clintons. Edwards was good enough for him when he needed him, but the tide is changing. I assume you know this since you are a Democratic aficionado that it was Carville in 1992 who actually coined “It’s the economy stupid”…and it still has legs, pundits forever repeating it. Matalin and Carville are two of the most interesting and knowledgeable people around in the political arena and as a couple, they are awesome.
I love their sparring…they do remind me of another couple you and I both enjoy.

I’ve always thought it was Bill Clinton who coined “It’s the economy, stupid!”

I have printed Hillary’s “Meet the Press” interview. Thirteen pages. Haven’t read it yet.

Have listened to the before-Iowa interview including Carville and Matalin. Interesting.

I don’t understand why race wasn’t kept out of this campaign. Who made it about race? Hillary’s people or Obama’s people? Who will this benefit more? Ridiculous. People are already confused and emotional. Now it’s just getting worse. Makes you want to live in Singapore!

first and last post @ 01/14/2008 at 10:52 pm

I thought it was Clinton too but either read about it or heard that it was Carville, then I researched to confirm and sure enough it was him.
I think it’s human nature for race and gender to have entered the arena. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t Hilliary, she would have no reason to. I thought I heard that it was someone in Obama’s camp, not Obama himself, who started it and it got out of hand. Clinton has already said in her interview with Russert that it should not be apart of the issues. However by the very nature of Obama touting his legal specialty being a civil rights attorney and by comparing himself to MLK, it probably was bound to happen.
I don’t think people are confused at least not yet…but definitely emotional. This democratic primary will be one of the most emotional and you might say, they are somewhat one in the same (LOL) and I wouldn’t disagree that one feeds off the other.

“Makes you want to live in Singapore!”
I’ve been to Singapore and I could live there if I had the $500,000 per family member to bank there in order to become a resident.

I have lived in Singapore too, but I must say, after a while you want to go to other places.
We used to drive to Malaysia, to the coolness of Genting Highlands, where American Jim Thompson (ex CIA?), who made the Thai silk industry a huge success, disappeared. I vaguely remember reading he was walking/hiking in the woods, and probably fell in a ravine. His body was never found.

You should visit Jim Thompson silk store in Bangkok, and his house by the klong is open to the public. I have had clothes made to order in the store named after him, and his house is full of gorgeous antiques.

Singapore is very comfortable, you have everything you want there, except space. They have reclaimed a lot of land, and have to be careful that they don’t wander into Indonesia’s territory! Never mind, they’re good friends. Indonesia’s ex dictator is very sick in hospital, and Singapore’s ex leader, Lee Kuan Yew, who made Singapore the big success it is today, was in Jakarta to visit his old friend.

Back to the campaign. It’s unfortunate that the press likes to take things out of context. It’s not nice, cherry-picking a speech and then pouncing on the speaker. Hillary was right, and her husband was right too!

I mean Hillary was right that MLK did the talking and LBJ made it happen. He was the president then and he happened to be white. Why do they make so much of it., and Clinton’s “Give me a break,” was about Iraq.

Must go!

I agree with you. As I posted in #220 “no one individual in Washington (or any state government for that matter) at a level of power who can make “change” can do it alone.”
This is where the emotions take over. MLK successfully brought about national awareness and started the whole momentum which led to the people in power to legislate the changes on paper that followed.. I did not read into the whole news hoopla that either Bill or Hillary was denying MLK deserved recognition and credit for the civil rights movement and I thought in the Meet the Press interview Hilliary Clinton clarified Bill and her comments clearly, but people choose to hear what they want to hear.
I also do not understand why people are upset, but it seems to be associated with misplaced indignation as a result of a major misunderstanding. People who don’t like her anyway took that fiasco and ran with negative comments about her into the ground. I think the people who like her anyway did not interpret what the people who don’t like her read into both Bill and her statements. You choose to hear what you want to hear and little will change peoples minds. Emotions will do that. The more logical reasonable individual is receptive to well…logic and reason.

Is anyone going to seriously take Roseanne serious? She is loud, white trash and a former prostitute. For Roseanne to state that Oprah is the worse thing that has happened to America is obnoxious! Oprah has done more for the suffering then Roseanne can do in her next life time. It’s easy to judge someone who Roseanne knows will not degrade herself to the same garbage. I advise Roseanne to keep talking b/c the only thing she will ALWAYS be rememebered by is her fat mouth!

Maybe you;’re right. Who knows. She is just expressing her opinion.
As usual, some agree with her, others don’t.

This article is entitled Women turn on ‘traitor’ Oprah Winfrey for backing Barack Obama
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/us_elections/article3216586.ece

The Sunday Times January 20, 2008

Oprah fans leave a barrage of negative messages on her official website in response to the talk show host’s support of ObamaTony Allen-Mills, New York

AMERICA’S favourite television presenter is paying a painful price for her intervention in the US presidential campaign last month. Oprah Winfrey has been dubbed a “traitor” by some of her female fans for supporting Barack Obama instead of Hillary Clinton.

Winfrey’s website, Oprah.com, has been flooded with a barrage of abuse since the queen of daytime chat shows joined Obama on a tour of Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina in mid-December.

Her intervention was widely credited with broadening Obama’s national appeal - especially among women - and with helping him to an upset victory over Clinton in the first vote of the election year in Iowa.

Yet a backlash by Clinton supporters appears to have prompted a rethink by Winfrey, the African-American media titan who is routinely described as the most influential woman on television.

She did not reappear in the final days before the New Hampshire primary - which Obama lost to Clinton - and has been absent from the most recent campaigning in South Carolina, which votes next weekend.

Obama aides believe that Winfrey will return to the campaign. Her own staff noted last week that in addition to her daily broadcasts on television and satellite radio, she has also been busy negotiating a multi-million-dollar deal with the Discovery cable network to create her own television channel, the Oprah Winfrey Network.

Yet Obama’s rivals suspect that Winfrey has been startled by the virulent reaction to her previous campaign appearance.

It started with a message on her website entitled “Oprah is a traitor” and rapidly expanded to include several discussions that attracted hundreds of comments.

In the original post, a reader called austaz68 said she “cannot believe that women all over this country are not up in arms over Oprah’s backing of Obama. For the first time in history we actually have a shot at putting a woman in the White House and Oprah backs the black MAN. She’s choosing her race over her gender.”

In a subsequent comment, 2nurselady wrote: “I don’t think Oprah is a ‘traitor’, but I do think she may be alienating a lot of her fans.”

Others have accused Winfrey of racism for siding with Obama when such a well qualified woman as Clinton was running.

Winfrey has built her career on empathising with women’s issues and offering a daily diet of redemption and hope. Her show typically focuses on women who have suffered but survived.

So hostile has the response been that some suspect dirty tricks. “All the rude and hateful messages on here can’t be from Oprah fans,” another visitor noted. “Someone’s campaign (wonder who?) is sabotaging the message boards.”

Winfrey received a rapturous reception when she campaigned with Obama last month. Yet several analysts warned that she might adversely affect his chances.

Steve Ross, a history professor at the University of Southern California, said: “The moment a star opens their mouth and endorses one candidate, they alienate half their viewership.”

I tried to track down the Obermann interview and the link didn’t work for me either, they must have taken it down on msnbc. I think the one you pulled is the one I’m referring to and I DO agree, he would make a great ambassador. I was listening to another political roundtable (I listen to so many, I can’t find it to give you the link). One of the panelist said Bill Clinton’s recent confrontations with press re: the Nevada fiascal were indicative that he is “out of practice” e.g. his temper easily flaring when dealing with the politics that go on in Hilliary’’s compaign even though while he was running and while in office, he was one of the most skillful and patient. A member of the panel said that Bill Clinton is convinced the press/news is deliberately unfair to Hillary because they don’t like her.

I had a look at the posts in Oprah.com. Read a few. They hate Hillary because of what her husband did. These posters are like those who hate Angie. They all live in the past.
It’s Hillary who is running, not her husband and, imo, he is just perfect for the job to improve US relations with other countries.

Hmmm! Well, I was just thinking how to get the votes.

So he made stupid mistakes. Where do you find a perfect candidate?
One who is also willing to run?
Right now the imperfect Barack is running. Also the imperfect Hillary. In November, people who are ALL imperfect will cast their votes.
You look at all that’s going on (on TV) and it makes you wonder why anyone wants to go through this!

Britain has had a woman leader. Germany has a woman leader now.
In France, a woman almost defeated Sarkozy (I don’t like him very much, do you? I don’t think he is very presidential!). Other countries have had female leaders.

Well, I’m sure he does try to restrain himself. I’m sure he would like to punch some of those guys in the media who put their own spin on everything. It must be hard to watch your better half unfairly attacked.
Clinton can’t do like Brad, just ignore everything, because if he does, the masses(!) can believe the lies.
He is also older now, has been through serious surgery, is probably taking high blood pressure medication, etc etc.

“What was she thinking!”
I think Oprah has obtained such unconditional accolades and an economic status the average American could never achieve that she has reached a point where she is not able to step back and see her persona clearly and therefore her actions and judgments are faulty (same for Dr. Phil and the B Spears situation)…i.e. she feels powerful and influential such that she truly thought she could pull this off. I think she had good intentions but it backfired on her television target audience which is NOT the same target audience that Obama attracts…it seems obvious to me but I don’t think she really thought her actions through. IMO she figured because her audience tends to support her unequivocally, they would support her enthusiasm for Obama…it was a blind action. Plus you probably have heard the rumblings that Oprah had romantic interest in him despite him being married…don’t really think this is true BTW…LOL.
One of the commentaries indicated that at least in Nevada, the coalition statistics were as follows: Clinton received 51% versus Obama 38% women, Clinton 64% Latinos versus Obama 26% and Obama received 83% Black versus Clinton 14%.
Now if this in indicative of general stats across the country (more or less) Oprah may have believed she could have swayed her women audience whose support he desperately needs. What’s interesting is that Oprah underestimated the non-robotic, “SUV” mentality that many have tagged her audience to be. Perhaps her audience should be given more credit for independent political thinking.

“They hate Hillary because of what her husband did. These posters are like those who hate Angie. They all live in the past.”
This is not unexpected. Politics and personal lives certainly do not correlate. Hilliary is no Angelina Jolie. After all AJ is Grinhilda as in Beowulf and her aura represents a personal threat to Oprah’s base i.e. the femme fatale who will steal your husband away, force you back to work full time and destroy your family. Hilliary is not young beautiful and sexy with a great body but more the JA type, plain, nice. Moreover Hilliary has been through the experiences perhaps some of these women have been through or have fears of going through i.e. husbands straying with affairs but comes home. IMO Hilliary is the epitome of what educated women, who make up a good portion of Oprah’s base, respect. Moreover these women also feel they could be her match intellectually…it is much more difficult to compete with AJ’s body, sexiness, allure, lips, etc…that requires major plastic surgery. I don’t think Oprah’s audience is stupid but they do have their basic insecurities…Hilliary enhances them, AJ scares them.

Bill Clinton in an interview talked about his surgery and said since the surgery his view on everything has changed and he believes now there are many situations where it’s not worth the fight.

I know what you’re saying, and I agree. I’m not comparing the two women. I was saying that people can’t separate the now from what’s in the past and can’t be undone.
There are women who can’t forget what Hillary’s husband, who is not running for office, has done, and also can’t forget that Brad Pitt left a marriage and hooked up with AJ, and now they want to punish both Hillary and AJ.

A week ago another commentary panel member said Bill Clinton often during his campaign and Presidency would fly off the handle behind the public eye and it unnerved his staff whereas Hillary Clinton is a “slow burn.” Clinton and BP are such different personalities..,.apples and oranges.
Bill Clinton in an interview talked about his surgery and said since the surgery his view on everything has changed and he believes now there are many situations where it’s not worth the fight.
——-
I believe it! So, they’re opposites. Well, opposites attract.

Do you have any links for an Obama interview, in which he explains his plans? Or is he just all talk? Maybe he wants on the job training.
Look what happened with W!

Can you believe W thinks in his last year in office he expects to create a Palestinian state, happily co-existing with Israel? Maybe he has a magic wand! We’ll see.

“I read or heard somewhere that people don’t like Huckabee’s name, so he’ll probably won’t last very long.”
Now you’re kidding me! I’m embarrassed for this country sometimes.
“Never mind the politics, people want to see a good-looking, well-dressed candidate, with a nice name.”… “Just now Newt Gingrich said that Republican politicians don’t like to think! I think most people don’t!”

well you know I’m with you on this too and this goes back to the Grand Inquisitor, benevolent dictator read.
This is my personal thought only…you and I have travelled extensively to foreign countries and we KNOW (and I’m not being arrogant) from those experiences the differences between how those in foreign countries view issues and live their lives versus those in this country. The US is comprised of the largest population of shallow “educated” individuals compared to other “educated” countries in this world. It’s certainly not that Americans are not educated or that they are not given the opportunities, they seem to feel justified in being stupid and not caring about issues. There are no challenges for them other than watching who is going to win American Idol.
Most US citizens have never travelled abroad, yet alone crossed over the northern or southern borders!!! To me this is an amazing reflection of provincial attitudes by a society made of individuals who are determined to compel others to think and do like us AND do what we dictate.
I have also travelled in many third world and communist countries where I have seen American tourists who travel in packs and overtly display the “ugly American” by taking over local buses, cackling like they own the square footage around them, being rude and obnoxious to the locals like “get out of my way I’m a rich American”…okay I’m getting riled up…got to stop. My point being Americans do not know how to be discreet.
Now I have had this discussion with many educated people and we all have theories which is too complex to discuss here on a blog, plus if anyone happens to peek into what appears to be just you and I now, they would think us un-American…which is shallow in itself, LOL.
Sorry if I go on and on Orchid…I’ll try to be better.
Anyway, now have you heard, McCain although very much respected and liked is not going to get votes because he’s too old and Republican voters are concerned that he will die in office and his Vice President will have to take over.

Why Black Women Prefer Clinton To Obama
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/12/02/politics/printable3562837.shtml
NEW YORK, Dec. 3, 2007
(CBS) By CBSNews.com’s Michelle Peltier

One of the intriguing stories of Campaign ‘08 is the popularity of Hillary Clinton with black women who might be expected to support Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, the first African-American to emerge as a serious contender for a major party presidential nomination.

A series of CBS News polls show the New York senator has a 15-point lead over Obama among black women. Other polls have confirmed Clinton’s popularity with African-American women.

Overwhelmingly, the most frequently stated reasons women give for favoring Hillary Clinton are that they have positive feelings about her husband and his administration and they think she’s got the best shot of any of the Democrats to win against the Republicans.

“Most Black women simply believe Clinton can win,” said former Gore campaign manager and Democratic strategist Donna Brazile. “They loved her husband Bill and would like to see ‘a woman elected first’”

Obama hopes to find the antidote to Clinton’s less-than-secret weapon - husband Bill - with a boost from talk-show queen Oprah Winfrey, who is campaigning for Obama in three early primary states: Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina.

But beating back Bill won’t be easy.

As much as African Americans may instinctively roll their eyes in exasperation when they hear Bill Clinton referred to as the “first black president”, it is undeniable he made an emotional connection with black America in a way that no other president has.

Sheryl McCarthy is a columnist for USA Today and Newsday who often explores issues of politics and race. “Black people have always felt with Bill Clinton that he is sort of one of them, “that he cares about them, that he can relate to them,” she said.

“And after he left the White House”, McCarthy observed, “he put his office in Harlem. So black people have a real connection with Bill Clinton and may think there’s sort of a continuum with Hillary Clinton or similar sensibility with Hillary.”

Mark Sawyer is director of UCLA’s Center for the Study of Race, Ethnicity and Politics. He pointed out Hillary also enjoys a halo effect from the fact that black Americans felt more confident economically during the 1990’s.

“Relative to other years, other presidencies, African Americans did very well under the Clinton administration, though there’s substantial evidence that they perceive themselves to be doing a lot better than they actually were,” he said.

Hillary Clinton’s White House years also gave her a forum from which she was able to raise her own visibility. Dr. Suzan Johnson Cook is an influential African American Baptist pastor who served as a member of Bill Clinton’s Domestic Policy Council and is now active in Hillary’s presidential campaign.

“I got to know her as the first lady,” Johnson Cook said, “and I got to see her work with health reform. She took on some issues, which was very courageous and the first time a first lady really dealt with policy.”

That time in the White House also put Clinton in the public eye as the long-suffering wife of a man with a roving eye.

“It took a lot to hold up under that,” Johnson Cook said. “I don’t know how many women could have done that, but she did, so I give her three thumbs up.”

Success begets success, and the simple fact that Hillary Clinton is the leader of the Democratic pack in most national polls carries a lot of weight in the minds of black women.

“She looks like she has a much stronger chance of getting the nomination and getting elected than Obama. You want to go with the winner, and if that’s a woman as opposed to someone black, then you want to go with them,” said Newsday columnist McCarthy.

The Rev. Johnson Cook points out that the kinds of issues Hillary has tackled in her political service also make her especially attractive to black women.

“Many of us are mothers and wives and family women, however you qualify us, and we know the track record of Senator Clinton with children, particularly poor children, and city children. When we look at someone who has a track record of voting that way and representing us and fighting for us and advocating, then she wins on the experience and the track record, hands down, no question, undeniably,” she said.

Race weighs heavily on the minds of black women, though not always in ways that have generated support for Obama.

In a series of interviews in South Carolina, New York Times reporter Katharine Q. Seelye noted that black women often brought up a sense of fear for Barack Obama’s safety if he was elected, describing it as “an almost maternal concern”.

“I don’t feel the country is ready for an African American,” one woman told her, “He would be killed.”

“There are women who can’t forget what Hillary’s husband, who is not running for office, has done,”
well if you review some of the posts above (#132 Team Lara Croft), some women can’t forgive Hilliary for why she didn’t divorce him and some (#150 tiredofthiscrap) made excuses for Hilliary staying with him…I agree some people will punish both. I totally agree with your post earlier about “imperfect” people but it is obvious people hold those in the spotlight to a higher degree than themselves or others in the spotlight. I agree again that what is in the past is in the past and all an individual can do is learn from it…which is the reason I found Hillary’s interview with Tyra Banks so fascinating…she was and is obviously confident in her decision and does not regret it. You have to move forward with what has already been done, attempt to make the best of whatever you have to work with and unlike some cry over spilt milk and make a big public deal of it. Hilliary Clinton deserves recognition for her ability to overcome that and the process by which she based her decision regardless of whether it was because of keeping the family intact or as #150 states “Simple, she knows a divorce would ruin her chances at the Presidency, that is why she stays with him.”

Obama proposes $75 billion stimulus plan
Proposal includes tax credit for workers, help for at-risk homeowners
Reuters
updated 4:45 p.m. ET Jan. 13, 2008
LAS VEGAS - Amid growing worries about a worsening of the U.S. economy, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama proposed a $75 billion economic stimulus plan on Sunday that includes worker tax credits, a one-time pension supplement and help to homeowners facing foreclosure.

The plan would include an immediate $250 tax credit for workers, which could double if the economy worsens, a one-time $250 supplement to Social Security payments, a $10 billion fund to help homeowners facing foreclosure and a $10 billion fund to assist states facing budget shortfalls amid lower tax revenues.

“We need that middle-class tax cut now more than ever — not five months from now or five weeks from now, but now,” Obama said in a statement. “I’m announcing a plan to jump-start the economy by putting money in the pockets of those who need it most and will spend it quickly.”

If he won his party’s nomination and then the November election, Obama would take office in January 2009.

The Illinois senator’s office unveiled the proposals at the start of a day of campaigning in Nevada, which holds the next contested Democratic primary on Saturday.

The “goal would be to help the U.S. economy from going into recession,” his economic advisor Austan Goolsbee told reporters.

Obama’s leading rival, New York Sen. Hillary Clinton, on Friday unveiled an economic stimulus package she said would be worth $70 billion. Her plan placed more of an emphasis on helping families unable to make mortgage payments — a major issue in Nevada where “for sale” signs are common on homes around heavily populated Las Vegas.

“There are some similarities,” Goolsbee said of the two plans. The biggest difference with Obama’s plan is that “the absolutely most imperative thing is to get the money into the people’s hands immediately so they can spent it.”

“The stimulus does increase the deficit in the immediate term,” the economic adviser said, adding that preventing a recession could have “profound” budget implications.

The Obama plan also includes a $10 billion extension of unemployment insurance to help those who have been unable to find a job for more than six months.

The foreclosure help plan would be aimed at “responsible homeowners” who live in their primary residences, Goolsbee said. Las Vegas has been hit hard by the subprime loan crisis, but many of those suffering bought additional houses hoping that fast rising prices amid a prosperous local economy would lead to easy money.

Last year, Obama proposed tax credits of up to $500 for 150 million workers. His revised economic plan calls for $250 of that to come in an immediate credit, and the rest as soon as three months later if the nation’s unemployment rate worsens.

Obama sets record straight on religion
Presidential candidate battles misconception that he’s a Muslim
The Associated Press
updated 10:49 a.m. ET Jan. 21, 2008
COLUMBIA, S.C. - Barack Obama is stepping up his effort to correct the misconception that he’s a Muslim now that the presidential campaign has hit the Bible Belt.

At a rally to kick off a weeklong campaign for the South Carolina primary, Obama tried to set the record straight from an attack circulating widely on the Internet that is designed to play into prejudices against Muslims and fears of terrorism.

“I’ve been to the same church _ the same Christian church _ for almost 20 years,” Obama said, stressing the word Christian and drawing cheers from the faithful in reply. “I was sworn in with my hand on the family Bible. Whenever I’m in the United States Senate, I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America. So if you get some silly e-mail … send it back to whoever sent it and tell them this is all crazy. Educate.”

Obama is referring to a debunked chain e-mail circulating widely on the Internet that suggests he is hiding his Islamic roots and may be a terrorist in disguise. It says he was sworn into the Senate on the Quran and turns his back on the flag during the pledge.

Some facts, some misstatements
There are some truths in the e-mail’s details. Obama’s middle name is Hussein. His father and stepfather were Muslim. And he spent part of his childhood in Indonesia, a largely Muslim country. But he attended secular and Catholic schools, not a radical madrassa.

His campaign has been pushing back against the false rumors all year. His aides decried an incorrect news report that Obama was educated in a Muslim madrassa and a section of his Web site is devoted to correct that and other false rumors circulating on the Internet.

But they are stepping up the effort now that the campaign has hit South Carolina and soon turns to other southern states where religion is so important to voters. The campaign distributed an open letter from seven Jewish senators this weekend condemning the attacks; aides are planning an event this week to respond directly to the e-mails; and campaign representatives blanketed South Carolina churches Sunday with literature that touted Obama’s Christian faith.

One piece features photos of Obama praying with the words “COMMITTED CHRISTIAN” in large letters across the middle. It says Obama will be a president “guided by his Christian faith” and includes a quote from him saying, “I believe in the power of prayer.”

A second piece, which like the first doesn’t mention the Muslim rumor, includes photos of Obama with his family and a caption that says they are active members of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago. It explains how as a young man Obama “felt a beckoning of the spirit and accepted Jesus Christ into his life.”

Fighting against Clintons
Obama says he’s going to fight harder against other mischaracterizations about his positions that he says are being perpetrated by rival Hillary Rodham Clinton and her husband, the former president.

“When I see Senator Clinton, President Clinton distort my words … that is not a way to move the debate forward, that is not a way to help the American people,” Obama said during his rally at the Columbia Convention Center. “I am not running for president just to become president, I’m running to help the American people. I’m not willing to say or do anything just to win an election.”

The Clinton campaign suggested the former president would continue pointing out what it says are inconsistencies in Obama’s record.

“President Clinton is a huge asset to our campaign and will continue talking to the American people to press the case for Senator Clinton,” said Clinton spokesman Phil Singer.

Obama adviser Steve Hildebrand said the campaign has organized “truth squads” made up of South Carolina supporters ready to defend Obama’s record from any attacks made by the Clintons this week.

In an interview broadcast Monday on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” Obama said the former president “has taken his advocacy on behalf of his wife to a level that I think is pretty troubling” by making statements that are not supported by the facts.

“This has become a habit, and one of the things that we’re going to have to do is to directly confront Bill Clinton when he’s making statements that are not factually accurate,” Obama said.

The Clinton campaign responded to Obama’s interview with ABC by posting a fact check on a campaign Web site in an effort to bolster Bill Clinton’s arguments against Obama.

“We understand Senator Obama is frustrated by his loss in Nevada, but facts are facts,” Singer said.

Great. Good for HRC. Her husband is her greatest asset, but I hear other Democratic leaders have cautioned him to take it down a notch. In one of the videos somebody wondered if her campaign can’t control him, will her WH be able to. It must be very difficult for him to restrain himself because the candidate is his wife. I so hope he doesn’t ruin things for her.

Btw, thanks for the links, where I found even more videos! My head was spinning after all that!

Another interesting op ed piece.
The thought that crossed my mind a few weeks ago, Obama -being much younger than Hilliary Clinton and having less experience- should consider dropping out for the good of the Democratic ticket. This race/gender issue is dividing the party. Hillary has a better chance of winning if only considering the fact that there are more women as a voting block than there are blacks as a voting block…haven’t checked the actual stats but aren’t women at least 50% of the adults in this country? There will be other opportunities for him. What’s your thought on this? Am I getting “punchy” or is this a reasonable thought process? Give me a counter argument, my thinking sounds too logical to be accurate.

So why can’t Clinton and Obama run on same ticket?
Contra Costa Times
01/22/2008

MAYBE I forgot to get my vaccination against the false-hope flu. Maybe the change mantra has finally overwhelmed my immune system. Or maybe it’s just the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr. hovering over this week.
But I have a dream. Or at least a dream ticket. Why not the two front-runners on one ballot?

Yes, I am aware that I must immediately hand over my press card to the professional cynic police. I also have to apologize to the two New Hampshire teachers who suggested this wistfully only to hear me snap back, “Not gonna happen.”

But the Democrats have just recovered from a panic attack over the possibility that a primary fight between Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama over race and gender will leave both in the dirt.

At the kiss-and-make-up debate in Nevada, a reassuring Obama said that “there’s much more that we hold in common than what separates us.” Clinton said that “we’re all family in the Democratic Party.” Exhale deeply.

“This is a moment worthy of celebration,” Clinton said last week. “Many of our parents and our grandparents — and, I dare say, probably many of us — never thought they would see the day when an African-American and a woman were competing for the presidency of the United States.”

Well, I’ll see your “change” and raise you one. Our parents and grandparents really never expected to see an African-American and a woman on the same ticket.

I will now pause for the requisite paragraphs explaining why this is a nutty idea.

The two-fer could be two-for-defeat, double the trouble, double the negatives. As ‘hope-less’ strategists will tell you, there are plenty of folks who don’t want to see a white woman and black man dance together, let alone run for the top jobs together.
The common wisdom says that we need a balanced ticket. But these are both senators, one from New York and one from Illinois. Moreover, the Democratic Party already has racial and gender gaps. Want chasms?

But what if “there’s no such thing as false hopes”? — thank you, Obama. What if “what we need is somebody who can deliver change”? — thank you, Clinton.

What if a new, improved idea of a balanced ticket goes beyond demography and geography? What if balance rests on different personal and political strengths?

By now we’ve heard the front-runners make their own case repeatedly. Obama is cast as the candidate of inspiration. Clinton wears the mantle of experience. Recently, Clinton described her idea of a president as “the chief executive officer.” Obama described his greatest strength as “the ability to bring people together from different perspectives.” He’s fired up and she’s ready to go.

Historian Doris Kearns Goodwin also blushingly confesses to being seduced by the possibility that the sum of this ticket would be greater than its parts. She compares it to other historic partnerships between those who motivated change and those who implemented it, including, yes, Martin Luther King Jr. and Lyndon Johnson. “King’s marching and sit-ins and his oratory created a climate that Congress had to respond to,” says the biographer, but LBJ’s political skills wrestled the legislation through Congress.

“In this case, we wouldn’t just be combining a black and a woman, but the two narratives of the campaign: inspiration and experience, both of which are needed for change,” she adds. “It would be a bold move, but a great one.”

Up to now, you will notice, I haven’t said who would be at the top of the ticket. Which is where my little attack of idealism may stumble.

In America, as Clinton noted in the debate, we put “the head of state and the head of government together in one person.”

Frankly, I think of Clinton as prime minister and Obama as royal philosopher. If Clinton wins, it’s easier to imagine the younger candidate taking the second spot. If Obama wins, it’s harder to see her settling for No. 1 Observatory Circle after eight years in the White House. But at the same time, she has had a whole lot of experience partnering with a president.

This game plan depends, I am fully aware, on Super Tuesday. It also depends on whether the country is, in fact, eager for something different, in a “post-polarization” frame of mind.

But Obama said, “I run so that a year from today there’s a chance that the world will look at America differently and that America will look at itself differently.” And Clinton told Tyra Banks which reality show she’d choose: “I think it would have to be ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ especially if I could have one of those really good partners.”

Against the low, incessant, chant for change, do I hear a T-E-A-M? Or only a dre

“I read a couple of years ago that only 14% of Americans have passports. Sounds low but it’s still more than 30 million people.”

Thanks for this stat…percentage wise it is still low IMO, however this is surely low considering until recently passports were not required to travel our northern and southern borders, so that figure will climb dramatically.

“If he wins, I suppose he would pick a much younger Veep.”
“would” or “should.” Actually at seventy, any of those currently running would be considered much younger. However I did read that the concern was that McCain supporters really like him for him and there are no other candidates on the horizon they feel has his background experiences and international knowledge or else they’d support that candidate. That indicates to me that those concerned about his age are taking that very seriously and long term and obviously the veep is only a veep, eg Cheney.

“I guess after 9/11 many realized for the first time that there are other countries!”
The theory is that the United States of America has never had a military intrusion on our soils, so for all that time up to 9/11 consequently Americans have been quite comfortable and feeling safe and secure…we were forced to wake up out of fear. I remember clearly the day of 9/11 that the projections and newspapers around the San Francisco and Los Angeles area were instilling the thought that these areas are next. I live in the East Bay of San Francisco and both bridges (Bay Bridge and Golden Gate) immediately had National Guards everywhere on the bridges parked in niches and patrolling the highway. It was a terrifying but suddenly realistic impression. They were positioned to obviously to make us (a nervous bunch) feel more secure and to make it more difficult for anyone to stand out from the normal.
Most people who live in my area know that the two bridges are big time targets especially the Golden Gate Bridge because it is so well known and a symbol for our area and California.

Interesting to note that the US has been the intruder on many a foreign soils and has been given the designation as having the “mightiest” military in the world with the latest technology at our disposal…IMO this lead to Americans nonchalant attitudes about many issues… so naturally it was a shock.

Thanks for this stat…percentage wise it is still low IMO, however this is surely low considering until recently passports were not required to travel our northern and southern borders, so that figure will climb dramatically..
Are you saying you need a passport now to travel to Canada and Mexico? I suppose it has to do with trying to stop illegal immigration?
Another thing I also read is that the US and Europe together are only about 13% of the world’s population. I wonder what the ‘limited’ masses think about that!

Interesting to note that the US has been the intruder on many a foreign soils and has been given the designation as having the “mightiest” military in the world with the latest technology at our disposal…IMO this lead to Americans nonchalant attitudes about many issues… so naturally it was a shock.
I forgot where I read it, or maybe I got it from TV - the US has more than 700 bases around the world.

I remember Huckabee calling W’s foreign policy arrogant. I think he is right! “If you’re not for us, you’re against us!” How simple-minded can one be.

“Are you saying you need a passport now to travel to Canada and Mexico?” yes, I think as of January 2008 but I’m not exact on that date.
I suppose it has to do with trying to stop illegal immigration?”
Absolutely yes. Now the US just to worry about bribes at the borders with Mexico which is happening already apparently and those miles and miles of tunnels from Mexico into New Mexico which the taxpayers are paying to have collapse as fast as they are being dug.

“I remember Huckabee calling W’s foreign policy arrogant.”
I remember a news article or political commentary criticizing W for having the Texas John Wayne cowboy arrogance, which hindered his communication internationally because other countries were not sure how to take his approach.
Americans are arrogant…Bush was voted in office in part because of his cowboy tough stance arrogance and the nation was on a vigilante mission to get Bin Laden.
I remember Bush making speeches where he proclaimed he would be found, he would be punished, blah, blah, blah…now if Bin Laden were captured during Bush’s administration, he would happily make that his legacy.

Orchid,
here is another link from today for you.
Interesting comments by Tom Brokaw on both Bill and Hillary Clinton
Entitled Americans want Competence dated January 24th 2008
On a program called “Morning Joe” if this link doesn’t work.

Entitled Scoring the Clinton Obama fight
Live with Dan Abrams program, round 3 and 4 dated January 23, 2008. I don’t see a round 1 and 2, it was probably another day.

both excellent in details criticizing both candidates on the nuances of what the candidates are accusing.

Orchid,
my last post got tagged “awaiting moderation.” I forgot to remove the http. Hope these go through.
“Entitled scoring the Clinton-Obama fight” dated january 23, 2008 from the Live with Dan Abrams program…goes over the details of the nuances of both candidates claims against the other with three political analysts…very educational.

Yes, very interesting the things Tom Brokaw said. I listened to it twice.
So, there are ‘gold-plated’ Republicans considering voting for HRC!

TBrokaw said he didn’t expect it to be so intense. I think he’s right, and I really hope Bill Clinton doesn’t go too far.
The interviewer said he has never seen a former president…, but then a former first lady has never run for the office.

I think that, right now, this is more interesting than arguing with B&A’s haters, although I’ve done that too. There are some nasty ones in the latest x thread.

well, I just figured out that you can post one link with the http but you can’t post two or you will “await moderation.”

I’ve been to both threads today and couldn’t take it. I refuse to post on a x thread although I do feel that it’s fair for JP supporters to post there because they post on the JP threads. It’s just that I only have a schadenfreude interest in her. As a side note I was looking at the links re: her braless tendencies and thought they look so fake but decided my opinions on her perpetual exhibitionism weren’t worthy to post…an attention getting almost 40 single woman knowing she will be photographed goes braless in white or positions her bottom in the air is…well there are no words.
And yes, this is far more interesting. While I’m posting to you I’m also listening to as many of the videos I can get on all the candidates. I just heard one of the commentators say that Fred Thompson is probably going to be high on the list for vp to McCain because they are old friends (the McCains went on Thompson’s honeymoon) and that Thompson is waiting before endorsing him to see if McCain drops out, then Thompson would endorse Romney in hopes he could be veep to him. They also just said Thompson dropped out because his mother is ill.
I also heard from this same program that the Clinton campaign may be using Bill Clinton as a “decoy” to distract away from Obama bashing of Hilliary.

This is a good one, Tim Russert being interviewed by the news
Entitled “Wind up to Super Tuesday” (which is Feb 5th) dated
1-23-08 Excerpts between Hilliary Clinton and Obama are ugly…you may have already hear this altercation…poor Edwards who is now claiming he is in the minority during these debates…amusing.

BTW have you heard the joke going around…”Bill Clinton has probably bedded more black women than Obama.” Sorry if that was offensive…but it is funny.

No, I haven’t! Very funny. Probably true lol: , but then he is much older.
I’ve been watching too much politics on TV and the videos.
I’ve been wondering why that Rezko guy hasn’t been mentioned, until Hillary did the other day. I’ll say it again, I sooo hope Bill doesn’t ruin things for his wife.

realistic @ 02/03/2008 at 8:29 pm

Well I guess the big oprah will be the Vice President..and why not she totally can relate to the average person..right…lets just say that she will be woman behind the man but in this case she will be the man behind the man …

My apologies Orchid for not having posted here…I’ve missed our exchanges. I had to close down this thread…I carry multiple websites at the same time!…but there is something about jj’s that slows down my computer i.e. the “script error” problem that others have had. Then to boot, I couldn’t find this particular thread through the archives search or my “history” via my browser and dummy me didn’t look to the bottom to go the manual slow-mode way…but here I am again.
I wanted to know what you thought of the recent Obama/Clinton exchanges and to our mutual fear, Bill did exactly what you stated…but he is on track now I think. Did you know the new term for them is “Billary”…here is an amusing article on that. I eliminated the http

Super Tuesday is tomorrow Feb 5, my state included and it is sooooooo close. Interesting commentary mentioned that although Obama is currently making great headways into California’s Clinton base, it may be too late because most of the Clinton people have already voted by mail and those voting in person who may change over to Obama based on his better debate performances of late may not be enough to give him any boost…we’ll see tomorrow. Hope you return to this thread…sorry for not keeping up with your post. I really have missed our discussion.

Orchid,
“I’ve been watching too much politics on TV and the videos”.

PS I never get tired of listening to the commentaries on both Democrats and Republicans. What do you think of the Kennedy’s move??? not Bobby Kennedy Jr’s but Teddy, Caroline and Maria.

I cannot believe how exciting both Democrats and Republican primaries are becoming. California will decide it. What do you think of McCain???

Well, I saw their debate in Hollywood. They were very ‘nice’ to each other. They were asked about a Clinton/Obama or Obama/Clinton ticket!
I used to think that Bill is helping Hillary. Now I’m not so sure. Yes, I’ve heard the term “Billary!”

I certainly hope it’s too late. I’d love to see a woman in the WH!

The Kenedy clan sure is divided! Do they have much influence?
Yes, it’s getting very exciting. I withdrew a little because I didn’t want to be too much in it - I’m worried for HRC. I want to not care about the result, if you know what I mean.
McCain seems like a nice man, a little forgetful. He also isn’t very popular with some people in his own party because he’s not conservative enough. I don’t think he cares. Many voters seem to like him, and the haters have one vote each
