Roseanne Barr Hates Oprah

Roseanne Barr Hates Oprah

Actress/comedian Roseanne Barr has made some wild accusations in her latest blog about talk show host Oprah Winfrey and Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama. Here’s a summary of what she said (with spelling and grammar fixed):

Barack is an empty suit selling “hope” in lieu of Truth
Oprah helped to elect Arnold Schwarzenegger. I have no doubt that she voted her purse by doing this, as she is a large land owner in California, and that ilk fears Dems because they do not want to pay their “fair share” of Cali tax.
Oprah has given us Dr. Phil. If that was not offensive enough to decent thinking people, now she brings us Obama. He has no ideas, no plan and nothing to add other than the cynical pacification of the masses with bedtime stories about hope.
Oprah, you play the race card and the gender card too. You are a closeted republican and chose Barack because you do not like other women who actually stand for something to working American Women besides glamour, angels, Hollywood and dieting!
– It is historical that Oprah, beloved of women, chooses a flashy man with small credentials over a seasoned woman politician with 35 years of experience…and sells that to the female demographic who look to her for inspiration!

OUCH!!!!!

——-
Can’t remember who said it first, but I’ve heard that SO MANY times. It must be government policy. Maybe W himself said it too, but I don’t know.
Invading a country that didn’t do 9/11, causing the death of thousands of innocent people, maiming thousands and causing thousands to flee, creating refugees/displaced people (the people that Angie visited), destroying property, infrastructure…
Iraq is an old, historic country. It’s ruined now. I hope rebuilding it doesn’t mean putting McDonalds and burger places and Starbucks everywhere.

Now they’re thinking of doing the same to Iran (???). Have you been to Iran? I have. It’s a beautiful country, but I’m not crazy about the food. They like lamb and I don’t eat lamb!
Are they really planning to drop bombs on Iran? It would be worse than Iraq. Iran is not another Iraq. I guess, as long as the battlefield is far from mainland USA…….
Sorry, this is OT. We’re supposed to discuss Roseanne criticizing Oprah (Okra ).

I’ve been posting in democraticunderground for a few years now. My screenname there will remain a secret.

I agree with Roseanne. The first thing I thought when Oprah endorsed Obama is that his being (part) black is the primary reason. There are definitely other Democratic candidates who have much more to offer than Obama, but Oprah is bedazzled by Obama primarily because of his race. Now, I think it is fine if a black woman wants to advance black causes. That’s only natural. But, I can see it now, should Obama lose…we’ll hear about it on her show…how devastated she is…just like we heard about how devastated she was over the movie Beloved’s failure.

Also, did anyone notice how her manner of speech changes when she stumping for Obama on the campaign trail? What’s that all about? She suddenly turns all “historical” sounding on us like she’s acting in a movie like Roots or something and she does not sound like herself.

I watch CSPAN extensively to see what the candidates are saying. Doing that and reading their detailed plans on their websites is the best way to get info on the candidates — not through mainstream media. Obama really does not have the multi-faceted grasp on the issues like several of the other Democratic candidates. He just speaks in an esoteric, high level way about concepts — like “hope” — that have no real nitty gritty underlying it. I think he has been entirely overrated and the spin put on him as a viable candidate has been over the top. Too much glitz, not enough substance.

Senators Biden, Dodd, Clinton and Governor Richardson and Representative Kucinich have the seasoned grasp on all matters affecting our country. Any of them would be exponentially better as president than Obama. Like Hillary said “words are not enough, it takes hard work”. Obama strikes me as one of those motivational speakers who wow people’s ears but have very few practical tools that people can use to get real and lasting results.

I agree with other commentators that too many women blindly follow Oprah’s lead without employing their own critical thinking skills (if they have any). Oprah pushes a lot of peculiar things that give these women false hope — like new age-y books like “Seat of the Soul” and “The Secret”.

Don’t get me wrong however. I like Oprah and watch her show somewhat regularly. She clearly does many good and wonderful things to make an impact in this world for good. But, I think this Obama thing is misguided.

OPRAH IS NOT SUPPORTING OBAMA BECAUSE HE IS HALF BLACK.
THAT”S STUPIDITY TALK. OPRAH IS A GOOD FRIEND OF OBAMA SHE HAS KNOWN HIM FOR YEARS. THEY BOTH LIVE IN CHICAGO ILL. WHERE OBAMA IS A SENATOR. OPRAH SAID ON LARRY KING THAT SHE WOULD SUPPORT OBAMA IF HE RUNS FOR PRESIDENT.
BEFORE OBAMA EVEN ANNOUNCED THAT HE WAS GOING TO RUN FOR PRESIDENT (HE WAS UNDECIDED). SO RACE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HER ENDORSING HIM.

I CAN’T BELIEVE HOW MANY PEOPLE ON THIS BLOG THINKS THAT OPRAH IS A RACIST JUST BECAUSE SHE MADE A CHOICE TO ENDORSE OBAMA. AFTER EVERYTHING OPRAH HAVE GIVEN WHITE/BLACKS/LATINO ETC……. NOT TO MENTION ALL THE CHARITY AND DONATIONS SHE HAVE GIVEN AROUND THE WORLD.

HAVE YOU ASKED WHY ROSEANNE BARR & BARBARA STRISAND SUPPORTS HILLARY, DID YOU CALL THEM A FEMINIST.

I THINK THAT ALL YOU THAT HATE OPRAH & THINK THAT SHE’S A RACIST, MAY NEED TO LOOK DEEP INSIDE YOURSELVES YOU MAY FIND OUT THAT IT’S YOU NOT OPRAH THAT’S THE RACIST.

Obama went to Columbia for college and Harvard for law school, worked to correct the death penalty system in Illinois, worked to help endangered and poor youth in Chicago, taught constitutional law at a top law school in the country, served the state legislature for 8 years and served in the senate. He has been serving longer than Hillary and he’s being serving longer than when Bill Clinton was elected as President. Hillary has only served 1 term in public office (less than 3 years to date). It’s funny that people say that Obama is not qualified considering all that he has done. He didn’t come from a rich family like Hillary. He was raised in a poor single-mother household so considering what he has achieved; his rise to success should be celebrated. Why do people think that if the politician actually cares about people and inspires them to get involved then there must something wrong with them. It is possible to have charisma and brains, its not that far fetched of concept. Why do people think it’s so crazy to have hope that if you work hard and work together you can rise above the obstacles in being poor. Should only people who are well off- and well connected have the right to run for president? If that’s the case, then by definition you are saying that President Bill Clinton was unfit to run in 1992. Read the foreign press they are going crazy at the possibility of Obama being president. Lets think about this for second, Bush in 1988, Clinton in 1992, Bush in 2000, ????? in 2008, do you really want to continue this Bush -Clinton war. The presidency is not a monarchy, and legacy it’s about the future of this country.

i don’t think people here are saying that only well off or well connected people have the right to run for president. no way. you’ve just disproven your point in that bill clinton did not have a background of being “well off” anymore than obama. also obama clearly is “well connected” with oprah and many other celebrities endorsing him…he’s brought in the most millions in campaign financing.

also, i don’t see what the clintons have to do with “war”. if it were to turn out to be a bush-clinton-bush-clinton string of presidents, there are only two of the four who have brought us into war and they don’t start with a “c”.

also, i don’t think most people posting here think oprah is a racist…just that we doubt she would hit the trail for any other candidate, only now that one is (half) black. She does have an agenda…it is only natural being as she is black and she wants to advance black causes. Doesn’t mean that is wrong or racist, but, that also doesn’t mean obama is necessarily the best choice for president just because influential oprah is endorsing him. I would have no qualms voting for obama if i thought he had the qualifications that some of the other candidates have (had). although if he does turn out to be the nominee, sure, i’ll vote for him. i think too many people are influenced by charisma and not enough by objectivity.

^^Siritz, is Arnold Schwarznegger half black too? You make no sense.

Hillary’s health care plan terrifies me. It will put undo burden of care on poor people who couldn’t much afford, and give too much power to the health insurance industry. I’m not voting for her because I don’t agree with her plans and I clearly see her for what she is, a Bush in sheeps clothing.

clinton bush crime family @ 01/13/2008 at 2:52 pm

Hillary is a member of the Bush crime family - Bill and Hill gained entry when he, as governor of Arkansas, allowed Iran-Contra drugs to be smuggled in and out of his airport in Mena, Arkansas - under Poppy’s direction.
IF they do not believe they can get away with cancelling elections (they have put in place all the legal means to do so) they will only allow the crown to rest on the head of someone they completely control. Enter Hill - perfect choice. Member of the clan, first woman Prez, a “Democrat” - and she will love being a “dictator” dancing to Poppy’s tune.
Of course Rover is laying the groundwork to put her in place - IF they decide they need her. It is part of the grand plan.
It keeps the dog and pony show of Dems and Repubs going - behind the curtains they are one and the same. No “leading” Dem has a program different than the one now in place.
The only ones who propose meaningful change - like restoring the Constitution - can’t get a voice in the MSM - Mike Gravel, Dennis Kucinich and Ron Paul. All the “leading” “candidates” are part of the charade.
Important fact to remember when considering Hill - she knew when she voted to go into Iraq that there were no “WMD”. She knew they had been destroyed by 1995. She knew and Bill knew and Gore knew and all of the top crew under Clinton knew.
On August 7, 1995 Gen. Hussein Kamel, Saddam’s son-in-law and former director of Iraq’s Military Industrialization Corporation, in charge of Iraq’s weapons programme, defected to Joran and into the arms of the UN inspectors and the CIA. He brought crates of documents on past weapons programs. His testimony (http://www.casi.org.uk/info/unscom950822.pdf) that all WMD had been destroyed was corroborated but kept secret. He was lured back to Iraq and killed for his treason.
Newsweek broke the story February 24, 2003 but no one paid much attention to its significance. It is the proof that all at the top knew that all WMD had been destroyed due to the pressure from the presence of UN inspectors - the inspections worked and everyone at the top knew it.
So, not only did Powell, Bush, Rove, Rumsfeld, et al, know -BUT HILLARY, BILL, GORE et al KNEW TOO - yet they said not a word and she voted to bomb a country she knew was no threat to anyone.
Of course, they want her in if they feel forced to allow “elections” - she is already programmed to sit on the throne - there are great rewards for keeping your mouth shut.

I watch Oprah too, the whole thing or just a ittle, depending on the guest(s) or subject. She can support whomever she likes, and I bet she’s chuffed that a fellow African-American is a candidate.
I’m sure she is friendly with Hillary too, but it’s only natural that she decided to endorse Obama.

Roseanne can disagree. They just cancel each other’s vote.
Everybody has just one vote. In the end, it depends on destiny. It will be interesting. The US will either have it’s first female or it’s first African-American leader after W.
You can’t force the masses to think about the issues. You can’t force the masses to think, period. Give them glitz and stirring speeches.

The Democrats better be very careful, or Huckabee will move into the WH! I’m just glad that W will be out.

I agree sirtriz with your statement. I never found Obama that substantive, motivational…yes, but empty without follow through…his speeches just kind of hang there.

“John Kerry backs him over his running-mate, John Edwards, because Obama made that stirring speech during the 04 campaign.”

I personally don’t think he was necessarily influenced by a “stirring speech”, John Kerry is a loose cannon (besides being boring). He is also hitching on a momentum because he doesn’t want to be left behind what might be one of two futures…he sees the writing on the wall and had to choose. He won’t support Clinton because there is no love loss between him and the Clintons. Edwards was good enough for him when he needed him, but the tide is changing. Poor Edwards got shafted by Kerry because it wasn’t to Kerry’s benefit…that’s politics.
Did you see or hear the interview Hillary Clinton gave on Meet the Press this morning? What did you think?

Didn’t somebody famous in French history say to “give the people
bread and games? and “Give them cake!’

I lived in the Middle East. Oil business (my husband). Went to Arabic classes, and belly dancing too (great exercise). Can’t shimmy very well, but I have a nice collection of belly dancing scarves!

It was a very nice speech, I must say. That was the first time I noticed Obama. I really thought and hoped Kerry would win. Yes, politics. Dirty game. You have to have thick skin.

No, I didn’t see HRC on Meet the Press. Was she good? Impressive? What do you think? Please tell!!!

In my opinion, she carried herself very well and handled Tim Russert well which is important because he is tough. He presented great discrepancies and she clarified with firmness and would not let him get away with a certain amount of bullying. I’ll let you decide…you can read the transcript from the one hour show and see it too if you have high speed. I elminated http because of the awaiting moderation. Hope it goes through.

“Re Matalin and Carville, I’m guessing the discussions (friendly arguments) at their home must be very interesting.”

I remember when they first got married and no one thought it would last… well fourteen years and still going strong. I assume you know this since you are a Democratic aficionado that it was Carville in 1992 who actually coined “It’s the economy stupid”…and it still has legs, pundits forever repeating it. Matalin and Carville are two of the most interesting and knowledgeable people around in the political arena and as a couple, they are awesome.
I love their sparring…they do remind me of another couple you and I both enjoy.

I’ve always thought it was Bill Clinton who coined “It’s the economy, stupid!”

I have printed Hillary’s “Meet the Press” interview. Thirteen pages. Haven’t read it yet.

Have listened to the before-Iowa interview including Carville and Matalin. Interesting.

I don’t understand why race wasn’t kept out of this campaign. Who made it about race? Hillary’s people or Obama’s people? Who will this benefit more? Ridiculous. People are already confused and emotional. Now it’s just getting worse. Makes you want to live in Singapore!

first and last post @ 01/14/2008 at 10:52 pm

I thought it was Clinton too but either read about it or heard that it was Carville, then I researched to confirm and sure enough it was him.
I think it’s human nature for race and gender to have entered the arena. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t Hilliary, she would have no reason to. I thought I heard that it was someone in Obama’s camp, not Obama himself, who started it and it got out of hand. Clinton has already said in her interview with Russert that it should not be apart of the issues. However by the very nature of Obama touting his legal specialty being a civil rights attorney and by comparing himself to MLK, it probably was bound to happen.
I don’t think people are confused at least not yet…but definitely emotional. This democratic primary will be one of the most emotional and you might say, they are somewhat one in the same (LOL) and I wouldn’t disagree that one feeds off the other.

first and last post @ 01/14/2008 at 11:11 pm

“Makes you want to live in Singapore!”
I’ve been to Singapore and I could live there if I had the $500,000 per family member to bank there in order to become a resident.

I have lived in Singapore too, but I must say, after a while you want to go to other places.
We used to drive to Malaysia, to the coolness of Genting Highlands, where American Jim Thompson (ex CIA?), who made the Thai silk industry a huge success, disappeared. I vaguely remember reading he was walking/hiking in the woods, and probably fell in a ravine. His body was never found.

You should visit Jim Thompson silk store in Bangkok, and his house by the klong is open to the public. I have had clothes made to order in the store named after him, and his house is full of gorgeous antiques.

Singapore is very comfortable, you have everything you want there, except space. They have reclaimed a lot of land, and have to be careful that they don’t wander into Indonesia’s territory! Never mind, they’re good friends. Indonesia’s ex dictator is very sick in hospital, and Singapore’s ex leader, Lee Kuan Yew, who made Singapore the big success it is today, was in Jakarta to visit his old friend.

Back to the campaign. It’s unfortunate that the press likes to take things out of context. It’s not nice, cherry-picking a speech and then pouncing on the speaker. Hillary was right, and her husband was right too!

I mean Hillary was right that MLK did the talking and LBJ made it happen. He was the president then and he happened to be white. Why do they make so much of it., and Clinton’s “Give me a break,” was about Iraq.

Must go!
