Roseanne Barr Hates Oprah
Actress/comedian Roseanne Barr has made some wild accusations in her latest blog about talk show host Oprah Winfrey and Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama. Here’s a summary of what she said (with spelling and grammar fixed):
– Barack is an empty suit selling “hope” in lieu of Truth
– Oprah helped to elect Arnold Schwarzenegger. I have no doubt that she voted her purse by doing this, as she is a large land owner in California, and that ilk fears Dems because they do not want to pay their “fair share” of Cali tax.
– Oprah has given us Dr. Phil. If that was not offensive enough to decent thinking people, now she brings us Obama. He has no ideas, no plan and nothing to add other than the cynical pacification of the masses with bedtime stories about hope.
– Oprah, you play the race card and the gender card too. You are a closeted republican and chose Barack because you do not like other women who actually stand for something to working American Women besides glamour, angels, Hollywood and dieting!
– It is historical that Oprah, beloved of women, chooses a flashy man with small credentials over a seasoned woman politician with 35 years of experience…and sells that to the female demographic who look to her for inspiration!
OUCH!!!!!

I prefer to make hamburgers myself, and when you make things yourself you can be sure it’s CLEAN!”
My problem with beef is “mad cow”…when I was in London visiting my younger sister who trained at the London School of Tropical Medicine as an infectious disease specialist, she warned about not eating beef anywhere in London…this was prior to the big scare in the U.S. To this day here in the states, she and her family do not eat beef, so I’ve stopped too.
With prime rib at least it’s a side of beef, the problem especially with hamburger is that you never know what else is ground up with the “beef”…I also know of someone who is a U.S. meat inspector and she says the government does not have enough inspectors to visit all the meat plants because of cut backs and “things can get overlooked”…not reassuring! Ditto for the EColi in lettuce, spinach, Listeria in package meats, cheeses although with lettuce, spinach, fruits etc you are correct, at least you can clean to some self satisfaction. The best alternative to all these inevitable and uncontrollable possible sources of contamination within our daily lives is to be as healthy as you can yourself and wash your hands all the time. The typical healthy adult reaction is stomach-ache, diarrhea, vomiting…think of it as “purging the system” LOL…isuch reactions can be deadly for young children and the elderly.
And you and I both know from our travels that in most countries eat only fruit that has a peel because the very water they drink is contaminated and only from reputable restaurants because many third world countries do not have refrigeration.

Orchid,
you didn’t tell me your thoughts on Kerry asking McCain to be his 2004 Veep or on McCain possibility asking Lieberman to be his Veep.
I liked the idea of Kerry-McCain then, and I like the possibility of McCain-Lieberman now. It proves that McCain is a flexible man, able to accept what he considers good from the opponents, but that is also the reason so many die-hard republicans resent him now. Don’t know about you, but if it’s McCain against Obama, I hope McCain wins!
BTW if this makes you feel better, the latest commentaries on Obama’s latest sweep are that it is not a done deal for him and HRC
is still in the running…and you are so right with the super delegates, no one knows. Also even HRC has stated that Obama’s sweep was not totally unexpected for those particular states.
That’s good! Obama makes feel-good speeches, but he is so vague, imo. Some idiot on TV, forgot who, said that if you’re in the room when he speaks, you can’t help crying!!!

and it never shows up. It might show eventually so you might see three or four of the same. There are no links, bad words, no awaiting moderation, characters within limits.
This is a test…if this goes through, I’ll edit the other one.
We’re not the only one that have lost posts.
what do you think of PT’s “outing” of MM???
I don’t know anything about that. Since I don’t read every post I’m not sure what exactly happened.
MM is Malibumom, right? I thought she was a real fan. Suddenly she is a fake fan? ??? I don’t know how to tell when a poster is just pretending to be a fan, and why would one do that? What a waste of time.

My problem with beef is “mad cow”…
Actually, although I’m not a vegetarian, I eat mainly vegetarian. I’m
a carb girl. I love pasta and couscous. I started eating couscous in Africa. I’ve been to Chad, Cameroon and Central African Republic.
I remember during the mad cow time, I saw on TV a program in which a cow was neatly sliced down the middle, lengthwise, and one half was hanging on a hook, surrounded by experts in white coats, discussing it and poking at it with instruments, then one of them pulled out a muscle or something from the carcass…….I couldn’t forget it for days.
…The best alternative to all these inevitable and uncontrollable possible sources of contamination within our daily lives is to be as healthy as you can yourself and wash your hands all the time.
It turns me off when I watch cooking programs on TV and the chef doesn’t use soap when he washes his hands!

“Some idiot on TV, forgot who, said that if you’re in the room when he speaks, you can’t help crying!!!”
what do you or the “idiot” mean by this? That Obama elicits emotional reactions because his speeches are motivational? Or it’s sad because Obama is not concrete in his solutions?
Re: #354 Orchid @ 02/10/2008 at 7:49 pm
“and I like the possibility of McCain-Lieberman now…Don’t know about you, but if it’s McCain against Obama, I hope McCain wins!”
I totally agree with you. I was thinking the same thing…talk about a first if that combination is a win. Huckabee just said in an interview that he would never be asked and no one wants to be Veep. McCain and Romney really dislike each other so that is not going to happen.
Did you also hear the Bill Clinton comments about HRC and McCain…he said they truly like each other. I heard her talk about McCain and she sincerely raved about McCain.
The other interesting aspect re: Chuck Norris’ comment that McCain is too old. If something does happen to McCain while in office, a democrat would be President! What an interesting prospect.
I think it is great that there is a tendency for Republicans to become more moderate aka Arnuld. Despite the current California’s budget being in the red, the budget was brought back from the brink of excessive Davis spending within the first four years of Schwarzenegger as governor. Major causes for the current deficit were the two Malibu fires at something like $147M cost to taxpayers and the dramatic decrease in California housing prices. BTW Schwarzenegger has not taken his $195,000 a year salary since he became governor…I know he doesn’t need it but neither do most politicians…the fact is he chooses to put it back into the California treasury.

“MM is Malibumom, right? I thought she was a real fan. Suddenly she is a fake fan? ??? I don’t know how to tell when a poster is just pretending to be a fan,…”
yes MM is Malibumom. I can’t tell either. I exchange email with a few regulars and one said she was not surprised. She always thought MM posts were “different” eg MM was the one quite awhile back who “exposed” the theory (although it was presented as “fact”) that JA actually was one of the posters because this poster stated facts only JA and BP would know re: Plan B, she (MM) claimed she also was privy to this information but she never explained how she had this inside information nor what the inside information was. For some reason other posters jumped on that… maybe because they wanted to believe such a thing…but I guess to others it appeared suspicious…now to be fair to MM, I tried to track down PT’s original post on that but couldn’t find it, PT never actually said it was MM apparently (on the current thread, PT posted that she let something slip on the last thread and she was stating posters should “let it go”) so I’m not sure what to believe. If other overly zealous posters wrongfully jumped on MM…that is bad, but on the hand PT hasn’t come to her defense and denied it is her either…I truly think PT would if she read that an innocent person was being unfairly accused. I thought maybe you might have read more than I could trace back.

“I’m a carb girl. I love pasta and couscous. I started eating couscous in Africa. I’ve been to Chad, Cameroon and Central African Republic.”
I love carbs too but am cutting way back…there is a strong diabetic tendency on both sides of my parents and since carbs turn into sugar, I am really trying to limit unless I can exercise two to three hours a day.
Well, Chad is off the list to visit, what is Cameroon and CAR like?
Have you been to the Philippines? What is it like?

I think this is what the idiot meant. Can’t remember his name because he is not famous. I suppose he was present once or more times and listening to BHO got all emotional.
Or it’s sad because Obama is not concrete in his solutions?
This is what I think. He is an expert at making his audience feel good that they don’t care if he can actually deliver.

I’m being careful. The secret to eating what you want and getting away with it is portion control. I learned from a French friend to eat dinner from a dessert plate!
Well, Chad is off the list to visit, what is Cameroon and CAR like?
I’d call those two, and most African countries, ‘hardship posts.’ Many families who have lived in South Africa for many years have left because it’s just not safe there anymore. Nice to visit, I hear.
Have you been to the Philippines? What is it like?
Yes. Strong Spanish and American influence, of course. I’ve only been to Manila. Experienced an earthquake during our visit. Everything in the hotel was swaying. Not serious. Great paella!

I’m giving upon jared and this “awaiting moderation” problem.
<b.I have one post now ‘awaiting moderation!’ Don’t know why. Nothing extreme or offensive in it. It’s in the one before latest /newest AJ thread.
Were you aware that Hillary Clinton campaigned and raised money for Obama’s senate run?
No, I wasn’t! I would really love to see a Clinton/Obama ticket, although I remember you(?) mentioning that somebody said some evil creatures might then want to get rid of the top one…….but then I saw an African-American on TV saying that it would be dangerous for Obama to become the leader because he would get killed…….
I knew they had worked closely but I didn’t know that tidbit of information.
At the time they didn’t know they would be opponents.
Just heard that 75% of Democrats would be happy with either Hillary or Obama.
Well, only one becomes the nominee and I hope it will be HRC!
Also read that Obama got white male votes from Edwards when he dropped out…no surprise…but a reminder that there are many men who may be reluctant about a woman as President.
Those males are no different from the males in Pakistan who resented the late Benazir Bhutto.
Just had to tidy up this old post!

It’s nice of him not to take his salary. Did you deliberately type
Arnuld instead of Arnold? Does it mean anything?
I could be wrong but doesn’t his last name mean black n*****, in German?

Is this what our expectations have become…just the dreaming and not the follow through! This is the reason why people fail IMO. If you are correct…this can explain many problems with this country. I didn’t think Americans were that shallow or stupid…but maybe. You really unloaded one on me and I’ll be thinking about your statement for a long time to come. Thank you for bringing that viewpoint…as cynical as I can be at times under certain scenarios, I never would have thought it but now another aspect has entered my stream of reference for actions of people.

“Did you deliberately type
Arnuld instead of Arnold? Does it mean anything?
I could be wrong but doesn’t his last name mean black n*****, in German?”
Yes it was deliberate. In California he is affectionately and sarcastically referred to as “Arnuld” and often “the terminator” or more often some derivation of eg “Govenator”. “Arnuld” I think is from SNL and their exaggeration of the prounciation of his first name.
Don’t know what his last name means in German. Don’t know if you are aware but his California supporters have been urging politicians higher up to change the legislation to allow foreign borns to run for US President…they have aspirations for him to run someday if possible…better be soon, he’s 62. IMO he has done a good job despite the bickering that goes on and many of his goals have been stopped by typically bogged down California politics…he has been often accused by the Republicans as being a Democrat in disguise for his centrist stands. He was strongly rebuked for publically calling his political opponents “girly men” in reference to SNL…it was really funny…politicians have no sense of humor! He also has been referred to as the most easily accessible governor in California and has regularly open door office hours for the public scheduled outside on the lawn in a tent so he can smoke his cigars ie so as not to offend non smokers and of course not to break California law against indoor smoking.
Re: # 364 Orchid @ 02/11/2008 at 12:30 am
“Many families who have lived in South Africa for many years have left because it’s just not safe there anymore. Nice to visit, I hear.”
I do remember meeting a married couple both from Joey town as they call it. They told me the tension has become so dangerous for “whites” that it’s not safe to drive at night for women such that it is “okay” for a lone woman driving at night coming to a stop light to go through it and not stop. They had told me their parents who have lived there all their lives (three generations) are abandoning property and moving to other parts of Africa. Some have taken to carrying rifles to chase off squatters rather than leaving their family land.
“Have you been to the Philippines? What is it like?
Yes. Strong Spanish and American influence, of course. I’ve only been to Manila. Experienced an earthquake during our visit. Everything in the hotel was swaying. Not serious.”
Hey I grew up in California and earthquakes are a way of life. When a quake hits, we find a safe beam to stand under, listen for anything falling (our gauge as to how severe) then we just wait to see how long it will last, then go about your business. A tsunami however is a different ballpark. Last year I went to mainland China and upon my return within a week, cities I had travelled to were flooded and many people died…not that it was a tsunami BTW…but always count your blessings and “luck.”
The Philippines is on my list. Did you actually live there for any length of time? Have you been to Indonesia? We have family friends who live there and I’d like to go there too…talk about a combination of earthquakes and tsunamis, plus potential for home-grown terrorists activity.

You know Orchid, it never dawned on me re: a McCain-Clinton combination but it is a wonderful idea. If the political pundits were discussing a McCain-Lieberman ticket, then maybe it’s possible. I have not heard any discussion as to why that is not feasible and I would think that would be a hot topic.
I do agree with you re: Obama has to win the nom for HRC to be available.
“…Many of them hate him now already. If he picks a Democrat for running mate, I don’t know what they’ll do!”
this would certainly put the Republican party in chaos. Commentaries have said that McCain has always been considered the “renegade” which to me is a good thing…and he has always said he wants to be true to what he believes in. The problem I have with party liners is that they are so inflexible and go along with concepts that are actually not sound, they end up non thinkers but band-wagon “followers” and sometimes I think they do it to be “socially accepted”, feeling secure amongst the blind crowd…now this portion of your post really scared me:

I onlhy remember the laughing out loud one. Put LOL between : and :
Like this
Oops, didn’t work. Maybe it was lower case letters.
Try again.
To bold, type first.
Type what you want bolded.
End with Omit the star.
Okay, it’s lower case.
My computer keeps losing what I typed. Now, let me see.
To bold:
First type the symbol above the comma (). Then type what you want to see in bold.
End with the symbol above the comma, followed by a forward slash, then a ‘b’ and end with the symbol above the period.
See if this works.
Good grief! It didn’t work.
Try this way.
