Clay Aiken VS. Newsweek
Round 1!
Newsweek got a little too inquisitive for American Idol alum Clay Aiken. Do you think the interviewer went a little too far? Here’s what went down during a recent sit-down:
How did you get into a fight with that lady on a plane? I’m not going to talk about it.
I was just curious because you’ve never talked about it. I did talk about it.
What about the Kelly Ripa thing? I’m not going to discuss it.
Did you think it was homophobic? I’m not going to discuss it.
What do you want to talk about? I think we’re done.
Can we talk about something fun? No, we’re done. I thought Newsweek would be more reputable. I’m surprised.
But I think people are curious about it. It was a year ago. This is Newsweek. It’s not the National Enquirer. I’d hate to have a job where I had to be rude to people.
I’ll change the subject. What do you do for fun? I watch the news. I read news magazines, but I’m reconsidering that now.

haha, what a looooooooser!
I don’t care for him that much, but good for him!
what a ****** dork!!
AIKEN BREAKIN MY HEART.
Congratulations, Bittney, for being the very first one to post on the Clay Aiken thread! =)
What an ******* diva. Aiken has lost his mind. He reminds me of carrot top/the joker here with his fug azz. Better be glad someone wants to interview him.
what kind of person he is? I have no idea
LOL! Clay thinks he’s all that. But he’s just a stuck up little @&$#* like tons of others. YAY ME!!!! EIGTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yawn.
way to go Clay, why asked Q’s that happened in the past? past is past, focus on the future, stupid newsweek, they know better than that.
bitchy bitchy boy!!
if he feels that way about spamalot, why didnt he give the role in the musical to a more talented individual
i have no desire to see him in a broadway show
clay needs to chill.he is lucky that anyone wants to interview his dumba**! he needs to be more concerned about his record deal getting dropped like all the other AI alums.
I think this guy is a DIVA! Actually, I didn’t even know he still made music!
I think he overreacted!
Couple of points…
First it is only an excerpt even at Newsweek, very hard to say what the complete interview entailed.
Second, Newsweek got schooled, they crossed boundaries and now they are being a bit pissy by slanting the interview.
Clay just like everyone has the right to set boundaries, if Newsweek had done their homework, they would have known that Clay issued a statement regarding the airplane foot thingy.
Not sure why people take offense for setting up boundaries, are celebrities now supposed to lose all boundaries so that they get positive press?
LOL! She’s such a diva, our Clay. But his comment - “…I’m rethinking that now.” was pretty funny.
haha. he does seem gay to me. and, maybe the interviewer and Clay were both a little harsh. lol.
ew he is fug and why is he so smug. not even cute. do something with those brows.ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
Don’t step on a queen’s rope. just sayin’….
But good for him, you gotta stand up for yourself, the “reporter” should have been smart and sensetive enough to notice and change the subject. The Arab Aquarius
He’s so full of his delusional self. He got dropped by label. Rightly so. Perv.
I agree about the last comment — “I read … news magazines … But I’m rethinking that now.” — haha
Why is he being interviewed?… exactly what has he done?
But I still like what he said… that magazine shouldn’t pry when he’s made it clear that he doesn’t want to talk about it. It has nothing to do with his fame. Less famous people have just as much right to refuse to answer something as much as people like Angelina Jolie do.
What an ugly queen!
your 3 minutes are up. fade awayyyyyyy aging queen.
go impersonate barbra steisand.
He’s being interviewed because hes joining the Broadway cast of Spamalot but the interviewer had difficulty sticking to the subject
and Clay has not been dropped from RCA. others have recently but Clay has not - too bad too cause RCA sucks
no-lister. answer the questions will ya. be grateful. here’s a question for herkein , what color is your matching thong and bra your’e wearing?
do you own a g aykini?
I have no respect for him, especially after this. The interviewer was just doing their job. What a rude way to treat someone.
He’s irrelevant. AI is embarass. If he isn’t dropped by his label, what are they waiting on.
He needs to get over himself.
that interviewer was mean.
Clay had every reason for wanting to leave.
he had every right to leave.
The interviewer went too far.
that interviewer went way to far.
JJ can you please delete the irrelevant and rude comments on here? Please?
Clay Aiken, good for you they just wanted to start the old news again. You dealt with it at the time and you left it along. They could have asked you a lot other questions, like your chartible organization where you are doing so much for childrens, your next gig and would you like to have a contract singing in Vegas. I am sure they could have asked if you have a special person in your life . I would like to see you perform often in Vegas.
It’s an interview.
He should get over it. Pretty rude of Clay to do such a thing.
haha has been right there
this is a fake article
what a ****** stuck up jerk! He thinks he is all that cause he won american idol. Come on Clay people have no respect for you.
Clay Aiken I am so glad that you did not let them talk you into starting this whole episode again, I f anybody read the press and tabloids the question of what happen with Kelly and the Airplane was answered by you. Newsweek wanted to catch you offguard like they do so many others stars when they sign up for an interview. I guess Clay have watched other stars trying to explain a question they were not prepared for. Whatever anyone thinks of Clay Aiken, you will be telling a bald face lie if you say he cannot sing. He is a great talent when it comes to singing. I wish he would perform in Vegas.
how did that guy who was interviewing him get that job anyway?
Lisa,
Newsweek got schooled? LOL
I am sure *Insert sarcasm here* they have a weekly or daily Clay Aiken fact checker.
He is known to be rude and arrogant. I can’t wait until he gets dropped from his label.
I think gayken needs to get over himself big time. He was so rude to Kelly Ripa, didn’t even thank her or say anything when he co-hosted… *****. He is rude and arrogant & I hope his career is over fast. Plus his hair is ridiculously stupid.
Wow, when they tried to change back to another subject he was still being an asshat. it’s part of a contract to do publicity. If he can’t do it, he shouldn’t get paid. Unless they stated before the interview that the subject was off limits, he should have refused to talk about the issues he didn’t want to talk about and then let them move on.
Clay has such a chip on his shoulder, and is an angry, traumatized little man who gets all wound up and passive-aggressive at the drop of a hat. Maybe I wouldve normally given him the benefit of the doubt, but I have actually SEEN his clash with Ripa on YouTube…look it up. He was simply a jerk to her nonstop, just a guest who wants to throw barbs at her because he’s prissy & pissy, she was just trying to defend herself with some measure of humor. Maybe that’s why he doesn’t like to talk about it, because it makes him look bad…maybe he’s one of those angry closet homosexuals who act aggressively because they can’t come to terms with who they are. Not that I have anything against homosexuals, I have several gay friends, I just dont appreciate when unresolved personal issues make a person act like a jerk.
I love Clay… but even if I didnt, I wouldnt support Newsweek. They were being idiots. Like he said… that was NEWSWEEK not the National Enquirer! So they shouldnt be like that
Wait, he’s still got a job?
What is he so defensive about? Girlfriend needs to come out of the closet already!
actually i feel that interview was rather crap - stupid and irrelevant questions - i don’t blame him for answering the way he did.
He likes to take it up the poop shoot!
The stuff that comes out of gayaiken mouth are inherently divisive and hypocritical!
I was spot on…he is gayyyyyyyyy!!!!!
He looks like trail mix…. He is soooo ugly! He is arrogant like a gay men.
gay aiken is a queeny fugly ***!
That interview is ******* hilarious.
Gayken is such an *******.
No one cares about any of his **** except the stuff he ‘won’t discuss’ and he just can’t stand it. He was lucky that Newsweek agreed to interview him and then gets pissy at their questions?
What a loser.
is he still doing pi wi herman? ugh they r both so gross
This guy is pathetic and so goofy looking…and his singing voice now sounds like a girl…i can’t stand hearing him sing like his last album i could not listen to it…to think that i was a fan of him in AI2 and even voted for him…he has lost what it takes to make it in the business, has a horrible womanly singing voice and screams when he sings…
Also he has shown no sophistication at all and dresses like a country mouse…sorry Clay.
New pictures video http://hudgensboy.skyrock.com
Wow I’m really offended that JJ is allowing all these homophobic comments. If you want to be negative and down on Clay Aiken, than thats your business, but to call him gay slurs is unnecessary and wrong.
Oh, Lordy, wait until the old lady Claymates wake up from their sleep and see this. He’s such a press, though. Yes, he has a right to not answer certain questions, but he acts like he’s this huge celebrity or something. He’s C list.
Jessie you are obviosly a hopeless claymate…this is not his website so people can say what they have in mind…he is what he is so get over it…
he’ll be happier if people can accept him for who he really is, gay, warts and all….and why should you be offended are you employed by him to be his keeper and protector…
I am wondering why Newsweek even bothered to interview him. He was very rude. He even insulted AI, the very institution who made him famous. Success surely went to his head. Poor miserable guy.
someone needs to just ‘come out’ and ask the queeer-o if he’s gay. the answer’s obvious but it would be nice to hear him admit it.
What a jerk!
who cares? f****** ugly though!!!!! yikes
Good for you! Way to go. Don’t stand for their cr*p!
Newsweek didn’t go far enough. I’m sorry but WHO does Ms. Aiken think she is? The President. Prime Minister. The Pope. No, some freak who came in second on a crappy tv show and sold a lot of records through wal mart. His career is at an end, next up cruise ships.
is he from AI? what year was that?
he seems like a strong personality!!
I guess he has the right not to answer some questions!
Ok, he’s a ***!! What an idiot…!
If he didn’t want to talk abiut ut he didn’t have to talk about. That sh!t is old news….BORING
He’s a bitter little queen whose career is going nowhere and hates himself for being gay. He should just come out, maybe that’ll revive his dying career. For a while, anyway.
actually i feel that interview was rather **** - stupid and irrelevant questions - i don’t blame him for answering the way he did.
========================================
Clay Aiken is stupid and irrelevant. That’s why Newsweek treated him like that. They wanted that reaction because the entire interview was a joke. They don’t give a crap about a lame D-Lister. No one does. But now they made the interview relevant enough to be talked about. If anyone thinks Clay taught them a lesson or something? Hahahahahaha! Yeah, right. He played right into their hands, and I’m sure the interviewer was holding back giggles the entire time.
Diva … hope he gets the chop too … now is not soon enough!
I don’t think we got the entire interview. It doesn’t flow well. Looks to me like the so-called reporter snipped out a few lines to make a controversial story. Wasn’t this supposed to be an interview about Spamalot? So why bring up old news that, yes, has already been addressed several times? So what would you people do in this situation? It’s easy to post a bunch of snotty comments on a website, but speakng up in person requires courage. I have a great deal of respect for Clay.
He’s so pathetically gay!
So what would you people do in this situation?
========================
I’m thinking most of us wouldn’t have gotten in a fight on an airplane or behaved like an idiot with Kelly Ripa in the first place.
Can’t say I’m a fan, but he handled himself nicely. Newsweek is a rag.
i don’t c anything wrong with his answers!
any press is a good press!
that Clay dude knows how 2 get attention, that’s why i think he’ll be around 4 a long time!
He needs to remember that he LOST American Idol.
GOOD FOR CLAY!!!. That is old gossip and should not have been asked. Dumb reporter.
1. Kelly Ripa is a snob expecially to southern guests. She just kept putting Clay down after that show. Kelly had put her hand over Regis’ mouth in the past. It was funny for HER to do it. 2. Rosie overreacted and should have never made that statement. Rosie is a loose cannon with her mouth. It is ruining her career.
Wow I never knew he was such an asshat.
He has the right to be mad All those people want is dirt
Good for him, to actually stand up to a rude interviewer. He’s a smart guy. And I’m laughing at the comments that calls him egotistical and stuck-up, and finishes with “Yay me!”. Ironic.
–read my blog at http://fashionpoirot.blogspot.com
If his fans really loved him!!! instead of throwing their underwear on
the stage , they would buy him a cute lacy pair of his own, so he can
come out of the closet, be her self and stop acting like a butch diva,
just saying!!
So if he were in the closet, were to come out, then what? Y’all would still be slinging the slop. Just finding another thing to aim at. If you’ve read any other interviews this same reporter has done, he does it in all of them, the inane questions, and gets the same type of response. Clay didn’t do anything different from them. If the reporter really truly was pissed he wouldn’t have said he was witty and charming…he would have said he was arrogant and an ass. Mountain out of molehill, yet again.
As to the airplane thing..that woman was the assaulter, she hit him, while he was sleeping, as he stated in his comment on it, after it was spread across CNN.:-) Personally, she’s the one that was disrespectful. I’da smacked the hell out of her, seeing as how it’s so accepted to do so, with no consequences.
Whatever. The man’s still richer than me and probably most of y’all.
Green is an ugly color.
If the media was fair and went after people all the same than I would say good the Newsweek asked those questions. But that is not reality. They let some stars pretend to be perfect ( ie an so call all american sweet hearts) and never dig into the lies their tell and others the media feels the need to keep asking the same questions over and over again.
So Bravo Mr Aiken for standing your ground
While Newsweek was out of line asking questions that had nothing to do with Spamalot, Aiken’s attitude toward his new gig is $h*tty at best.
He has to realize that attitude means everything. Just look at Katherine Heigl; she wafted in all the publicity she received when promoting Knocked Up, but tried to act like a paragon of feminist virtue months after? She came off as a douchy b*tch, plus, she may have marred the memories of those who saw the movie.
Aiken has a lot to learn. Newsweek needs to get rid of the tabloid influence.
What a whiny little *****. Does anyone really care about him?
Krung Krung #10 I think the interviewer was NOT over the line. He asked politely and was taken aback by Clay’s answers. What did Clay think he was going to get asked about? World politics?
And Arab Aquarius #19 they DID try to change the subject but no-class Aiken was horrified that anyone would ask about all his bad behavior that he didn’t even want to change the subject.
Aiken should be glad anyone is interviewing him about anything, and the Kelly Ripa thing was his chance to give his side to a reputable magazine. He’s known as a whiny phony diva, and he just proved it. Saying that it’s not National Enquirer — that would be a legitimate complaint if they had kept digging or were asking who he was dating or whatever, but they were asking about actual NEWS events that have happened, and giving him a chance to speak his side.
He’s just made a bigger ass of himself, if that was possible.
The interviewer asked once, and then just explained that he was curious because Clay never said his side, and Clay was all pissy with him. Then the interviewer asked just once about other issues, and Clay has had so many scandalous things happen that he got squirrelly about the whole interview.
Clay is a jerk, and everyone but middle-aged women who in another era would have loved Liberace know that he’s a useless waste of space that thinks he’s soooo important. He should have thanked his lucky stars that anyone wanted to interview him at all.
This is lame. Seriously, what did this ‘has been’ think Newsweek wanted to talk to him about? Newsweek wouldn’t have any other interest in him - what are they going to ask him about, his opinions on the presidential candidates or global warming?
The children are too immature to know where he’s coming from. You’re probably still at home with your parents and don’t understand life.
The young man is tired… tired of people trying to DIG for something negative about him. Why not start on a positive note and talk about his music career and his amazing singing voice? He’s so talented and it’s a shame that he is being targeted this way.
Good for Clay Aiken….finally a celebrity that has backbnone to put these people in their places. Way to go.
Rount One goes to Clay Aiken. Newsweek is a news magazine not some gossip rag. You can tell who the tabloid heads are on here by their reaction to this story. Congrats on his Broadway debut and soon to be film debut.
While not at all interested in his career, I thought this except was great. Newsweek is supposed to be a news magazine, not a gossip rag.
Celebrities/stars need to stop blabbing to the tabs (and Newsweek is acting like one). Everyone is just running to every news/entertainment outet to spill their guts. Like Britney these so-called stars are addicted to fame. good on ya Clay!!
Oh puh-lease! For all you stupid Claymates, he had a hissy fit and interfered with an airplane’s scheduled air travel, had the plane’s passenger’s detained, and involved the FBI!!! That is not merely “gossip” — that’s news.
By saying he wasn’t going to discuss something that he made news is like Paris saying she doesn’t want to talk about her time in jail, just sell her new perfume. Sorry, but you screw up on a national level, even news mags are going to ask you about it!
Good for Clay that he refused to answer even “fun” questions? He’s a DIVA. He only wants to promote himself. This wasn’t about “stick to my Broadway show” — do you really think Newsweek is there because he’s THAT good a singer? It’s because he’s a nationally known screwup who is in the public eye!
Newsweek was NOT acting like a gossip rag, and I’d be the first to clamp down on them if they were. He wants to promote his show, but sorry, the only thing he’s known for is acting like a brat and overstepping his celebrity bounds. If a news mag is going to say, look, you caused trouble on an airplane, what gives? He could have easily deflected it and downplayed it, but by acting uppity and snotty about it, he only made himself look worse.
As for Kelly Ripa, the guy slapped his hand across a TV host’s mouth. That’s news, not gossip. He did it on national television. If he doesn’t want to explain his weird and disgusting behavior, he shouldn’t agree to interviews in the first place. He acts like he has the right to treat people how he wants, but no one has the right to question him about it.
He’s an a s s h o l e, and he just got caught again. Anyone defending him is a Claymate who is divorced from reality.
poop
Jeers to Clay Aiken for not acting with more grace. And jeers to Newsweek for thinking Clay Aiken is relevant.
if he sits down for an interview, he can expect these questions…
I can’t believe that you people are still calling him gay he’s from the south and is a Christan so he’s suppose to hate gays, remember?
HA! Idiot man… Someone’s clearly got it in his head that he’s better than Newsweek. None of those questions crossed the line, if you don’t want to answer then don’t answer, but trying to tear down the reporter for asking a legitimate question in the first place is moronic. Also, it’s hard to pretend you’re above it all when you started the conversation talking about the toilet. Swelled head!
To Wilbert…
I don’t usually respond to this stuff, but I don’t listen to Clay Aiken (not that I’d be ashamed if I did). I’m gay and that is why homophobic comments offend me.
i hate that ******* dude.. what a jackass..
Although I think Newsweek was over-stepping it’s boundries by asking personal questions like those, I think Clay Aiken handled the interview very badly. Technically Newsweek is not supposed to be a tabloid magazine, but let’s be honest, how many magazines these days don’t ask those juicy personal questions? Not many. In one way or another, every magazine has an ounce of tabloid in it.
But even when the reporter tried to change the subject, Clay Aiken was still rude and pouty. The reporter was just doing his job, and even though he wasn’t exactly respecting Aiken’s privacy, that does not give Clay the right to be rude back. It would have been enough for him to say, I don’t really feel like talking about it, and then allow the subject to be changed.
Given his situation, he shouldn’t do anything else that would make more people believe he really is as stuck up as the magazines make him out to be.
Please Clay can do what he wants..he’s a grown man. If he wants to have a hissy fit, then so be it. He has plenty of company .There are people dying in Iraq and that’s what Newsweek should really be concentrating on. He is supposed to be some has been then why were they interviewing him anyway? Obviously he’s newsworthy.
The past is the past and his reponses of past situations have been documented. Stupid ‘journalists”. Reporting the same bs over and over.
And so what if he’s gay? Please. tht has noting to do with anything.
Ugly ****..!!
GAwd, she is one snippy little queen.
Gayken lovers are the same kind of morons that would vote for Mike Huckabee.
It’s interesting that when other celebrities refuse to answer certain questions during an interview (George Clooney, Matt Damon, Kevin Spacey to name a few) no one makes a big deal out of it. Seems like there’s a double standard here. Like him or not, his name still generates interest. It’s just a pity though that no one questions him about his recent activities as a Unicef Ambassador or his charitable endeavors which he spends so much of his time doing.
his voice sucks and sounds like a screaming woman…i can’t stand listening to him…i actually threw his last cd in the garbage. clay you have no class and sophistication and you ought to go back to where you belong, to the backwoods of north carolina…
Clay is not only witty, he is funny too. Right on Clay, it’s about time someone told off these “reputable” idiots!
Oh give me a frikkin break. Clay is such a joke and his fans are insane. You’re finally getting an interview and you’re rude to the interviewer and you diss the show that’s your chance into having a real career.
who does he think he is!!! mega-celeb??
So everyone, how would you have answered those boring year-old questions that the interviewer already knew the answers to, as we all did? If it were I going into this interview, from a reputable magazine, with the assumption it was to promote Spamolot, but only to get hit with the “same ol, same ol” garbage questions…I would be pissed too. This was an award winning interviewer? How pathetic. No, I’m not a claymate, nor an AI watcher…just an individual who likes the theatre and wanted some insite on the new production…not last year’s tabloid crap. Newsweek, if you can’t do it right, don’t do it please.
Clay is awesome. He has been one busy man. There are so many questions the interviewer could have asked Clay about, Spamalot, Unicef, his concerts, his foundation and new cd. This interviewer chose not to have any real interest in the most special and very handsome man. You go Clay!!
he gets pissy b/c the stuff newsweek is interviewing him about ‘happened 1 yr. ago’. that alone should have him thinking… if it happened 1 yr. ago and that’s roughly the only subject a news mag has to interview you about, get your sorry a-ss outta town - or do something newsworthy. crybaby a-ss-hole.
pft… he should be lucky someone was even willing to interview him in the first place.
He had every right to stop the interview when he did.
Good for him! I’m glad he stood up for himself!
I think Clay Aiken is awesome and doing a lot of good.
AHAHA!! i’m not a fan of his, but good for him! it’s funny & sad how he kept repeating “I’m not going to discuss it.” the last line was the best “I’ll change the subject. What do you do for fun? I watch the news. I read news magazines, but I’m reconsidering that now.” HAHA.
