Clay Aiken VS. Newsweek
Round 1!
Newsweek got a little too inquisitive for American Idol alum Clay Aiken. Do you think the interviewer went a little too far? Here’s what went down during a recent sit-down:
How did you get into a fight with that lady on a plane? I’m not going to talk about it.
I was just curious because you’ve never talked about it. I did talk about it.
What about the Kelly Ripa thing? I’m not going to discuss it.
Did you think it was homophobic? I’m not going to discuss it.
What do you want to talk about? I think we’re done.
Can we talk about something fun? No, we’re done. I thought Newsweek would be more reputable. I’m surprised.
But I think people are curious about it. It was a year ago. This is Newsweek. It’s not the National Enquirer. I’d hate to have a job where I had to be rude to people.
I’ll change the subject. What do you do for fun? I watch the news. I read news magazines, but I’m reconsidering that now.

Can’t say I’m a fan, but he handled himself nicely. Newsweek is a rag.
i don’t c anything wrong with his answers!
any press is a good press!
that Clay dude knows how 2 get attention, that’s why i think he’ll be around 4 a long time!
He needs to remember that he LOST American Idol.
GOOD FOR CLAY!!!. That is old gossip and should not have been asked. Dumb reporter.
1. Kelly Ripa is a snob expecially to southern guests. She just kept putting Clay down after that show. Kelly had put her hand over Regis’ mouth in the past. It was funny for HER to do it. 2. Rosie overreacted and should have never made that statement. Rosie is a loose cannon with her mouth. It is ruining her career.
Wow I never knew he was such an asshat.
He has the right to be mad All those people want is dirt
Good for him, to actually stand up to a rude interviewer. He’s a smart guy. And I’m laughing at the comments that calls him egotistical and stuck-up, and finishes with “Yay me!”. Ironic.

If his fans really loved him!!! instead of throwing their underwear on
the stage , they would buy him a cute lacy pair of his own, so he can
come out of the closet, be her self and stop acting like a butch diva,
just saying!!
So if he were in the closet, were to come out, then what? Y’all would still be slinging the slop. Just finding another thing to aim at. If you’ve read any other interviews this same reporter has done, he does it in all of them, the inane questions, and gets the same type of response. Clay didn’t do anything different from them. If the reporter really truly was pissed he wouldn’t have said he was witty and charming…he would have said he was arrogant and an ass. Mountain out of molehill, yet again.
As to the airplane thing..that woman was the assaulter, she hit him, while he was sleeping, as he stated in his comment on it, after it was spread across CNN.:-) Personally, she’s the one that was disrespectful. I’da smacked the hell out of her, seeing as how it’s so accepted to do so, with no consequences.
Whatever. The man’s still richer than me and probably most of y’all.
Green is an ugly color.
If the media was fair and went after people all the same than I would say good the Newsweek asked those questions. But that is not reality. They let some stars pretend to be perfect ( ie an so call all american sweet hearts) and never dig into the lies their tell and others the media feels the need to keep asking the same questions over and over again.
So Bravo Mr Aiken for standing your ground
While Newsweek was out of line asking questions that had nothing to do with Spamalot, Aiken’s attitude toward his new gig is $h*tty at best.
He has to realize that attitude means everything. Just look at Katherine Heigl; she wafted in all the publicity she received when promoting Knocked Up, but tried to act like a paragon of feminist virtue months after? She came off as a douchy b*tch, plus, she may have marred the memories of those who saw the movie.
Aiken has a lot to learn. Newsweek needs to get rid of the tabloid influence.
What a whiny little *****. Does anyone really care about him?
Krung Krung #10 I think the interviewer was NOT over the line. He asked politely and was taken aback by Clay’s answers. What did Clay think he was going to get asked about? World politics?
And Arab Aquarius #19 they DID try to change the subject but no-class Aiken was horrified that anyone would ask about all his bad behavior that he didn’t even want to change the subject.
Aiken should be glad anyone is interviewing him about anything, and the Kelly Ripa thing was his chance to give his side to a reputable magazine. He’s known as a whiny phony diva, and he just proved it. Saying that it’s not National Enquirer — that would be a legitimate complaint if they had kept digging or were asking who he was dating or whatever, but they were asking about actual NEWS events that have happened, and giving him a chance to speak his side.
He’s just made a bigger ass of himself, if that was possible.
The interviewer asked once, and then just explained that he was curious because Clay never said his side, and Clay was all pissy with him. Then the interviewer asked just once about other issues, and Clay has had so many scandalous things happen that he got squirrelly about the whole interview.
Clay is a jerk, and everyone but middle-aged women who in another era would have loved Liberace know that he’s a useless waste of space that thinks he’s soooo important. He should have thanked his lucky stars that anyone wanted to interview him at all.
This is lame. Seriously, what did this ‘has been’ think Newsweek wanted to talk to him about? Newsweek wouldn’t have any other interest in him - what are they going to ask him about, his opinions on the presidential candidates or global warming?
The children are too immature to know where he’s coming from. You’re probably still at home with your parents and don’t understand life.
The young man is tired… tired of people trying to DIG for something negative about him. Why not start on a positive note and talk about his music career and his amazing singing voice? He’s so talented and it’s a shame that he is being targeted this way.
Good for Clay Aiken….finally a celebrity that has backbnone to put these people in their places. Way to go.
Rount One goes to Clay Aiken. Newsweek is a news magazine not some gossip rag. You can tell who the tabloid heads are on here by their reaction to this story. Congrats on his Broadway debut and soon to be film debut.
While not at all interested in his career, I thought this except was great. Newsweek is supposed to be a news magazine, not a gossip rag.
Celebrities/stars need to stop blabbing to the tabs (and Newsweek is acting like one). Everyone is just running to every news/entertainment outet to spill their guts. Like Britney these so-called stars are addicted to fame. good on ya Clay!!
Oh puh-lease! For all you stupid Claymates, he had a hissy fit and interfered with an airplane’s scheduled air travel, had the plane’s passenger’s detained, and involved the FBI!!! That is not merely “gossip” — that’s news.
By saying he wasn’t going to discuss something that he made news is like Paris saying she doesn’t want to talk about her time in jail, just sell her new perfume. Sorry, but you screw up on a national level, even news mags are going to ask you about it!
Good for Clay that he refused to answer even “fun” questions? He’s a DIVA. He only wants to promote himself. This wasn’t about “stick to my Broadway show” — do you really think Newsweek is there because he’s THAT good a singer? It’s because he’s a nationally known screwup who is in the public eye!
Newsweek was NOT acting like a gossip rag, and I’d be the first to clamp down on them if they were. He wants to promote his show, but sorry, the only thing he’s known for is acting like a brat and overstepping his celebrity bounds. If a news mag is going to say, look, you caused trouble on an airplane, what gives? He could have easily deflected it and downplayed it, but by acting uppity and snotty about it, he only made himself look worse.
As for Kelly Ripa, the guy slapped his hand across a TV host’s mouth. That’s news, not gossip. He did it on national television. If he doesn’t want to explain his weird and disgusting behavior, he shouldn’t agree to interviews in the first place. He acts like he has the right to treat people how he wants, but no one has the right to question him about it.
He’s an a s s h o l e, and he just got caught again. Anyone defending him is a Claymate who is divorced from reality.
poop
Jeers to Clay Aiken for not acting with more grace. And jeers to Newsweek for thinking Clay Aiken is relevant.
if he sits down for an interview, he can expect these questions…
I can’t believe that you people are still calling him gay he’s from the south and is a Christan so he’s suppose to hate gays, remember?
