Here’s a peek into Tom Cruise and his beliefs in Scientology via Gawker. You must watch the video below–it’s definitely making the rounds in the blogosphere.
Basically, Tom goes off on how dedicated he is to being a Scientologist and how he will “not hesitate to put [his] ethics in someone else!” Here are some of the highlights via Us Weekly:

“But that’s what drives me… I know that we have an opportunity to really help… effectively change people’s lives and I am dedicated to that. I am absolutely, uncompromisingly dedicated to that.

“We are the authorities on getting people off drugs, we are the authorities on the mind, we are the authorities on improving conditions… we can rehabilitate criminals.
“…We can bring peace and unite cultures…
“Traveling the world and meeting the people that I’ve met, talking with these leaders in various fields, they want help and they are depending on people who know and who can be effective and do it and that’s us. That is our responsibility to do that.

Before you jump all over him, his written comments sound like what every good believes about their faith, that it enhances their life and has the ability to do the same for others. It always sounds so rational… on paper.

I so very seldom post or even lurk in a Tom Cruise thread, but this piqued my interest … and now I really am sure in my mind that the man is nuts.

I have a certain image (rightly or wrongly..?) about Scientology, after reading Tom Cruise’s comments I have to say I really understood what he was trying to get across - the thing is every since he became more vocal about Scientology his popularity went down.
I have read Huber’s book and while I find the material fascinating I feel much of it needs to be updated - times have changed. In short Scientology can offer much but not until they have found a firm ground.
I agree with the poster who says that many of his beliefs sound rational on paper. However, religions/belief systems don’t exist only on paper - in order to be effective, they have to be able to function in the real world. And if you speak with such an intensity that must people think you are crazy (seriously! look at that man’s eyes!) and you make this supposedly precious life-changing knowledge available only to those who can pay out the nose for it, THAT, my friends, it is where it becomes dangerous.

I agree with you totally CC. I listened and listened and then I read the printed version. What did he actually SAY? Nothing. You gotta do it, you gotta get out there and do it. Do WHAT? He said nothing but egomaniac rambling hot air. If it truly is all up to him we are in big trouble because he is a lunatic with an ego that has gotten totally out of control. Even his eyes look scary now. Too bad because I quite liked him when he was younger. Up to his Jerry MacGuire movie I enjoyed his films but I can’t watch him anymore. In anything. He can’t disappear into a character anymore, which is essential in acting. This guy is a total whacko. He is only trying to promote this cult that he is unfortunately believing in. My findings on this Scientology cult is they are out to gain a profit for themselves. They are totally thieves and take advantage of everyone they come in contact with. My daughter worked for an office which was into the Scientology Cult and she was commanded to attend meetings on this cult process. She had to leave her work because she could not stand by and watch the way they treated their clients. This was a dentist office in Missouri. The sad thing is that these people are still in business, and ripping people off. There needs to be a way to stop this now before they get more people involved in this kind of behavior. He is ablolutely not getting no money from me to see any of his movies and everyone I talk to are saying the same thing. In watching his video, he just rambles on without even saying anything constructive. He sounds like a crazy person when he laughs. Now I feel better that I have vented this out for everyone to read. I will not go into the deep things that were discussed in those meetings that my daughter had to attend. It was just simply devastating to her what she reported to me that went on. Yes, you are right LT: I am German and I am afraid of Scientology Church and people like Tom Cruise who try to use their influence to lure people into the big money making and mind bending machine that their religion in fact is.

it is great that he and his people will help others, I believe they do, but I think it is arrogant to think they are any sort of authorities. If being a scientology means authority, then why would people go to school, university, college, read actual science journal and do logical scientific experiement to earn a degree and be called doctor or professor?! Scientology is not a religion!!! What kind of religion believes in no higher being? Christians have the Father, the son and the Holy Spirit, Islam has Allah, Buddhism has Buddha and so on. What do they believe in? That they want to do good by the world? So does every other religion. They don’t dictate your life, nor ask you to pass them all your early belonging to them. They don’t have secret camps, or bodyguards and you don’t need to pass courses or audits to become one of them!!

I don’t agree with Scientology, but how would this world be if everyone had that much passion about helping others and giving themselves 100% to what they believe in? It would be a much better place to live. Like I said, I don’t believe in Scientology, but I have more respect for the man now, because after reading what he said and hearing what others who know him have to say about him, he practices what he preaches. And he doesn’t expect from others what he himself has not already done. Like other posters said, every religion thinks their own is the best. I think it’s great if Tom Cruise feels it’s important to help people and change the world but what exactly is he doing to accomplish this? You never hear about either him or KH doing anything to help people. They are always in the public eye. This is just the tip of the iceberg. I was declared an SP at the age of 14. Actually, I was declared an enemy of the “church”. My dad had to, basically, disown me.
Interestingly, several years later, we got back into contact and he said something about the “church” either being wrong or amending their position or some other b.s.
I attended a school run by Scientology when I was 14, and had walked out after experiencing some of their “techniques”. I would gladly give everything I have to expose and destroy them. Unfortunately, I have nothing they want. I’m not rich, don’t have any material possessions to speak of, have no influence and have no “voice” that folks would listen to. So I’m off their radar.
I would dare them — triple dog dare them — to try their brand of “confronting” on me. Here I am! Dazzle me! The folks that have fought the good fight (like the folks at Gawkers who refuse to take down this video) are champions. There are so many who have been destroyed or killed (suicides? ha!) in trying to expose them. But nothing this evil can endure indefinitely without being brought to the surface.
Kudos to those who have a stake in this. Wish I could help. My dad’s still with them… too bad they didn’t realize that, at 14, I was nowhere NEAR as suppressive to them as I would be now.
