Britney Spears’ Obituary in the Works

The Associated Press (oh, just the world’s largest news organization) has already begun preparing Britney Spears’ obituary!!!

“We are not wishing it, but if Britney passed away, it’s easily one of the biggest stories in a log time,” AP entertainment editor Jesse Washington tells Us Weekly.

“I think one would agree that Britney seems at risk right now,” Washington adds. “Of course, we would never wish any type of misfortune on anybody and hope that we would never have to use it until 50 years from now…but if something were to happen, we would have to be prepared.”

Oh please ! writers do that kind of thing for a lot of celebrities still alive so they are always ready… just in case.

This is not revolting ! This is our job to be ready.
Now if Britney goes on her current way, the obituary will be published soon :) I’m a ***** I know.

I thought hair grew 6″ a year…why is her hair still so short?

I feel bad for her

As long as they don’t release it by mistake it’s pretty standard practice. She is at risk. The BBC had the Queen Mum’s obituary ready for ages, and even aired it by mistake a year before she was dead… Now hat is bad.

I’m a bit tired of her. She is addicted to two things…drugs and attention. If she is really serious about getting clean, all she has to do is go to an island and chill. But No….She is an addict and where does
junkies end up to…………5 feet underground. I am not wishing for her to die….I just want her to vanish..or maybe I am. I bet her Mom can’t wait for it.

Lives are not just STORIES. People can be so uncivilized and vile

#61 Kara, but they’re doing it in preparation of a boost of sales. This isn’t just some professional writer, hired by the celebrity his or herself most likely, to write their obituary. This is a tabloid journalist with an agenda working for a tabloid only concerned with money.

She’s utterly UGLY!

Actually, it’s NOT a tabloid - it’s the Associated Press. And no celebrity asks a writer from a news organization to write their obit - writer’s do it on their own. It’s standard practice. Hell, my sophomore year of high school my advisor for our school’s newspaper (I was a reporter) made us write obituaries for her and the other staff members as practice. When you get hired by a newspaper, the first thing reporters are assigned to do are write these things. Everybody does it, but it WAS tacky of this guy to tell US Weekly of all places that he did it. But seriously, it’s not uncommon, it actually saves time (when someone finally does pass, you don’t have to do much research because it’s already written), and it’s kind of like people drawing up wills. That’s equally as morbid, but no one complains about that.

Alright Amber, I guess the only thing we can agree on was it has been presented in a tacky manner. I’m currently taking Journalism myself in college, but I’m not that fat into it yet. I’d like to be a respectable reporter and writer.

US Weekly should not let this man be represented them in such a poor light.

Oh my gosh…..this is sad. She needs help, and that’s all. If I was her mom *hypothetically* I would send her but to a mental rehabilitation clinic and not let her out until she’s well enough.

It’s called a graveyard file and every news outlet has one for every celebrity and public figure. If someone dies at 7 p.m., you have to have something ready to go to press that night so it makes the morning news. You just write the lead saying how the person died and off it goes to press. This is not news that the AP has this. I’m sure it has a graveyard file on Cameron Diaz, President Bush, Oprah Winfrey and Britney. Let’s just pray the AP doesn’t have to use the one on Britney for a while.

#70 luckyL - you can be a respectable writer, but you’re STILL going to have to write these things eventually if you want to work for a newspaper or similar organization. Just make sure you don’t tell US Weekly or some other tabloid about it and you’ll be fine.

HER PARENTS ARE TO BLAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They loved the money and fame, and in return they lost their daughter’s soul and who she is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That’s why little sis is pregnant too.

As for the original story - I can’t really see the moral (or commercial) value of wishing somebody’s death.

Britney Spears really needs to reach out and grab somebody’s hand, or she will sink even further. The paparazzi aren’t to blame. They follow people like Tom Cruise and Sienna Miller around all day every day, and neither of them are clinically depressed, or indeed, fu*kups.

If it’s attention she needs, she should do it the way Paris Hilton did pre sextape - by attending every party in sight and looking good.

Almost all obits are written in advance, particularly for people of note deemed at risk of death (old, self-destructive, etc). It may seem morbid, but it’s true.

Actually, if your obit IS NOT PREPARED IN ADVANCED by newspapers and news agencies, you are a nobody. You know YOU HAVE ARRIVED when your obit is prepared in advance. They didn’t have to say anything special about Brit Brit. It’s common practice.

Large newspapers do write up obits for prominent people and celebrities in advance .

She makes me sad

No, theres nothing wrong with them writing it. They are in the celebrity news business after all. And as sad as it is, a celebrities death is news. They’re not saying it is going to happen, or they wish it would happen or they’re going to hire a hitman to take her out so they can print it. They’re just writing it to be prepared.

Lets face it people, Britney isn’t well and honestly if she keeps going the way shes going, something will happen to her whether its overdose or suicide or something. NOT saying its goign to happen because she can still definitely turn her life around if she decides to or if shes forced into rehab or a hospital or something. But honestly, the way shes going its not looking good.

Something with Brit HAS to change, or she will die at which point the Associated Press will be prepared for the biggest story to hit their industry. Its just business people, as sad as it sounds.

This is completely normal. All news organisations do this for celebrities. They’ll have one on Julia Roberts as well, and Meryl Streep, and possibly Dakota Fanning. It’s so if a celebrity dies, they can put something up that’s fact-checked already and goes beyond “X is dead. More later.” I know this because I used to work in the department next door to the department that kept the obits updated.

Reporting it this way’s just some junior AP moron first discovering that obits are filed this way, then trying to make something sensationalist out of it. It’s not a big deal. Britney’s might be getting some edits, but she’ll have had one for years already.

what the hell is wrong with people?! Why would they do that, do they think it’s funny? If I was Brittney I would sue their asses.

That is such a heartless thing to do. Brittney is obviously going through a VERY tough time right now, and I’m sure that is making it only worse.

The world is full of sick people!

#23: You’re a sick human being! Get a life!

i just don’t get it….why can’t a relative i.e. aunt, uncle, mature cousin, grandparent get involved and try to reach out and help britney….she is obviously addicted to drugs and that is her immediate problem…..then counseling is needed for the other problems….poor britney appears to be scared and no one is doing anything …i can’t say that i blame her for not trusting her parents, nor kevin federline…..but i would think that she would have someone even a good friend’s mom who could intervene and get her the help that she needs immediately!!!!

i wish britney all the best….but she does need assistance from others who really care and love her …because she is too overcome to help herself by herself

I dont understand why her family is not being more aggressive and trying to help her. If this were my child I would be in front of a judge trying to get her commited. Desperate times call for desperate measures and her parents should be willing to do anything. She does not seem to be equipped to make decisions in her best interest. At least then she could get help whether she thinks she needs it or not. I dont want this young mother to die. remember she is a human being and she is very sick.. Please someone help her.

I hope a miracle happens and she survives 2008 alive and become a normal girl again… I hope… http://arabaquarius.blogspot.com/

ohmigod. never thought AP could go that far. that’s cruel!

I love how everyone’s surprised… the AP, the major news networks…. when they get wind that someone famous isn’t doing well they’ll make up a couple obits just so they’re prepared.

Like imagine if Owen Wilson had succeeded in his suicide attempt? Everyone was caught off-guard for that one, they all would’ve been soooo screwed lol

All you fame seeking idiots need to leave the damn girl be….. she will go down because of YOU!!!!!!! It is incredibly sad to see that in order to ,make a few more bucks for yourself you decide to start planning your story on someone’s death……HOW SAD! I could make tons of money trying to boycott these stupid sites whose main goal is to paint somebody like a *****, crazy, drugged up, etc…….GET A LIFE!!!!!!!!
