For the life of me, I don’t see what is so remarkable about Wentworth Miller’s appearance. Bear in mind I’m a straight male, but there is nothing enviable about his looks.He has nice eyes, but that’s about it. His body is nothing to write home about either. His costar is much better looking than he is IMO. Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, some of those other actors I can see why women fawn over them, but not this guy. If I saw him walking down the street, I wouldn’t think twice about it. I must need glasses!

So because he is a “public figure”/celebrity his racial identity and background differs from theirs even though they share the same bloodline and genes?
Going by your statement one would think he has never gone to any family reunions from his father’s side of the family.

Call me naive, but the “exploiting” of this part of his family has less to do with his PR and how he is perceived by those like yourself, well well, and more to do with an Anniversary of sorts for the family and their community.
I have no doubt that he would be there had he never gone into acting and was working behind-the-scenes at whichever studio he would currently be. The picture would be there in the paper and people would notice it or not thinking, “Wow. Good looking and accomplished family. Very interesting family history.”

I also don’t think I will ever understand where the ‘only NOW is he promoting being Black’ comes from because as far as I can remember he has always been biracial and that has always been made pretty clear pre-THS. I might add that Wentworth is very proud of his black ancestry and heritage. I cannot imagine that he wouldn’t date a black woman. And who’s to say he has not in the past. Went is far from shallow. If he met a woman he liked, I think he’d be attracted to her mind, honesty, kindness more than the color of her skin. If there’s chemistry and a connection, he’d go for it!!!

Anon, we have black people here in France, some are from the French West Indies and their ancestors were slaves too. But nobody burdens them with the past, and they are free from chains in their minds. They don’t forget what happen to those long time ancestors BUT it’s not their problem. NOW. kateben, i know who’s in your country. i’ve visited there more than a few times and have close friends from there. have close friends with roots in ivory coast as well as the “french west indies’ who have grown up in france, a few of them very mixed with families ranging in color, just like wents. some of them are very well off and even so they are not oblivious to the effect of race in your country. it’s not a matter of anyone “Categorizing” them, as you say but the subtle forms of racism that might come into play. not to mention that for many blacks who are less well-off (my friends are the children of doctors, etc) there is a gap between the haves and the have-nots, an income and opportunity gap that does have a color dimension. please don’t act like it doesn’t exist. it doesn’t matter if one is forbidden to mention an ethnicity if social distinctions and discrimination exist, no matter how subtle. you know as well as i do that there are many africans that live in poverty and discrimination in your country, live in the worse neighborhoods outside of paris. much of this disparity is race-based, no matter how subtle.

yes, muycuiosa, i do understand how you think. as someone from spain, you have a totally different way of viewing your “race”, etc. it’s complicated, muycuriosa. many light-skinned, mixed-race people passed as white to avoid all the racism and discrimination black people faced in america. they cut ties with their black families and sometimes told no one about their roots so that today there are countless “white” families who do not know they may be descended from black slaves, that they have african ancestry. for years, to have black ancestry was considered a stigma, a taint. even today, most white americans (of a certain age, definitely) will feel that it’s an insult if you tell them they look like they might have black in them. things are changing, sure, but that old stigma remains to a great degree. of course, this all stems from slavery when enslaved black women had the children of the white slaveowner, overseer, etc. the children, even though they were mixed, were considered “black” and were enslaved and treated as black. that is why you have light-skinned black people, because of the mixing that occurred through the generations. still, those mixed “black” people who decided to stay with their families and honor their blood ties, that didn’t want to “pass” and live as white at the cost of their family connections, these people through the generations identify as black. this is why there is such a wide range of complexion in the black community–so much mixture, (black, white, indian, etc.) starting from slavery days on down. i feel like i’m taking up too much time with this topic. dont mean to hijack this thread but some of the earlier comments really offended me. a good book to read is shirlee taylor haizlips the sweeter the juice. it’s about a light-skinned black woman who goes searching for her mother’s sister who passed as white, as well as other members of the black women’s family who disappeared into the white community. this is why i admire went’s family, the pinkstons, and frankly get angry when people question their “blackness” or the “degree” of went’s black ancestry. to be black in the south, the descendants of mississippi slaves, and to have lived in the south, in memphis, tenn. for generations—to have lived under jim crow and segregation, lynching,etc. and still prospered, against all odds like the pinkstons did, to have given so much to the black memphis community– this is a heritage to honor. almost every black family i know has lost members of their extended family/lineage who decided to leave the race, pass as white and forever cut themselves off from their blood, their kin. do you understand what i’m saying? the cost of racism and hatred has been heavy.it has split families, destroyeod family ties. that’s why the pinkstons, went’s black familiy, being proud of their heritage—truly a beautiful story.

In my country, there may be some racism but it is not the same: it is more how you do in your life, your behaviour. When you are black in the Europe countries, you are a newcomer (not like your country) and the people think “he is a stranger, I hope he will act like us”.(The newcomer can be a Chinese or any colour, or white but very different aspect, also) People are waiting to see how you behave. If you are a good citizen, work, tell your children to work at school, there is no problem. And it is important you all live together with Spanish people and respect the country’s values.

Just one thing more: I read on this thread that Wentworth has been “exploiting his great-grandma’s black roots” for publicity.
It is unfair. If it is true that it gave him a slight advantage for him as the chosen actor for “The Human Stain, he never exploited it in the political sense.
He just mentioned that he had black roots through his father. He acknowledged them, like the rest of his very diverse background but he didn’t feel complied to flaunt them, and he never did it in the past. because he feels it’s a private thing.
And I know for sure that if he had been cast in a film about Arabs and Jews, he would have said: “I’m an Arab AND a Jew” and it would be true all the same.
He said quite firmly that he didn’t belong to any community. He’s a modern American, an a modern citizen of the multi-ethnic world.

A full investigation has been made into claims that I was assuming multiple identities and that I was a troll on that Flicka page and I was cleared of any wrong doing. It was others who got banned not me, so the administration there obviously agreed with me. If you don’t believe me, why don’t you contact the Flicka administration yourself and find out what they have to say. And if you don’t stop with the abusive language and libel, I will be taking action–and that’s a promise.

I am not at all embarrassed by what I was accused of because I know I’m innocent and have been proven so. That is why I was not afraid to talk about that incident here at JJ, even though I am now sorry I brought it up. If you are so sure that you are right, and I am the crazy, delusional one, why don’t you sign your name like I do instead of leaving crude, filthy and anoymous crap on JJ. This is Poesjoker. It was my site over at Flicka that was the cause of the big blowup the other month that you and Carolyn Morton are fighting over here at JJ.

While I wish Morton.Carolyn had NOT posted here and started all this drama back up again, I wanted to let you know that Flicka’s administrator conducted a full investigation of all the claims made about trolling and lying all the crap that went down. The whole thing got out of control and I didn’t know what to do or who to believe. So, I contacted the admin of the site and they looked into all the claims and counter claims and this is what they found:

Morton.Carolyn was accused of creating several different accounts and posting contradictory comments under different names. This is untrue. According to the administrations investigation, she only had one account at the time registered to her and her computer’s IP address.

She was accused of being ‘Elvis4eva” as well as “wentworthy72” and “wentworthy07”. This is also untrue. The IP addresses attached to each of these names were completely different, and in two cases they were IP addresses in foreign countries.

One of the posters claimed they had seen her post contradictory comments and then delete them when she realised that she had logged in under the wrong name. This is also untrue. The administrations logs ALL deleted entries and there were NO deleted entries on my page.

As far as I know, she is not delusional because she never said anything that was untrue or unsubstantiated, unlike other people on the page. She just offered her opinion and comment, which I welcome and have nothing against. I only became concerned when people started making accusations and calling one another names. I will not tolerate that childish behaviour on my site and JJ shouldn’t either.

If you do not believe me, please feel free to contact Flicka adminstration directly and request a copy of the report. It is Investigation #8721/poejoker/nov2008.

The investigation concluded that the only people causing serious problems on my page were: Cooperpools, who accused Morton.Carolyn of being different identities for an unknown reason and then could not provide evidence to back this up, and gingerbread_toast, who made repeated rude and untrue posts, using filthy and offensive language. The Admin advised me to ban all these users from my site and I have done so. I have not banned Morton.Carolyn because she didn’t do anything wrong. Babyrose5555 obviously told some whopper lies and I feel sorry for her, but she didn’t do anything seriously wrong. If she wants to go around telling people she met WM when she didn’t, that’s her mental problem, not mine, not yours and not Carolyn Morton’s. I didn’t ban her either.

I hope this clears things up but if it doesn’t, I really don’t give a rat’s ass. You are all crazy. Now stop talking about me and my site, and stay the **** off my page. If JJ were smart, he’d ban you from his page as well. Calling someone a ****? What are you, in third grade? (And learn to spell: C-U-N-T, not K-U-N-T, you ******.)

To set the record straight (I lived in Saudi Arabia for many years and am not Muslim) all females past the age of puberty must cover themslves in a long- sleeved floor- length black robe (called an abaya) in public. Those women who are Muslim are always required to cover their hair in public. Most cover their faces below the eyes as well. Non-Muslim women are not expected to cover their faces, but they cover their hair in public or risk being scolded by the mutawa, the religious police. The exception to this is that Muslim women who make the pilgrimage to Mecca do NOT have to cover their hair and faces there. Non-Muslims are not allowed to enter Mecca or Medina.

You are right about one thing: I shouldn’t have threated to sue you or any of your 17 different posting names/identities (hypocritical much?) because, really–you are NOT WORTH THE TIME. But being a lawyer, I tend to get upset when I see myself or anyone else defamed, either by the stupid little unimportant internet trolls like you, or someone who is actually important and matters in the world. But JJ and others should be mindful of what is said in threads like these. I checked with my boss, and in some states in the USA (where I guess this site is located?) you CAN be held accountable for defaming and slanderous comments, as well as threatening ones, made on your site. Another poster mentioned this and said that people should think before they post–this is true. You are not as invisbale as you think. IP addresses and servers can trace you and if you say things about people, using their real names, that are not true, or if you threaten someone with violence, the host of the site and the person making the comments can be held accountable. The result can include up to $15,000 in fines and/or 6 months in jail.

I am not just saying this to you, summer–I am warning everyone on this thread, because some people said some pretty horrible things here. Think before you post!
