So because he is a “public figure”/celebrity his racial identity and background differs from theirs even though they share the same bloodline and genes?
Going by your statement one would think he has never gone to any family reunions from his father’s side of the family.

Call me naive, but the “exploiting” of this part of his family has less to do with his PR and how he is perceived by those like yourself, well well, and more to do with an Anniversary of sorts for the family and their community.
I have no doubt that he would be there had he never gone into acting and was working behind-the-scenes at whichever studio he would currently be. The picture would be there in the paper and people would notice it or not thinking, “Wow. Good looking and accomplished family. Very interesting family history.”

I also don’t think I will ever understand where the ‘only NOW is he promoting being Black’ comes from because as far as I can remember he has always been biracial and that has always been made pretty clear pre-THS. I remember it being mentioned as an aside in a synopsis of Dinotopia [which, unfortunately I cannot find online and will therefore be called a liar for it].

I would ask, for the sake of educating us all, what Black celebrities you do consider “true” and worthy of identifying as Black and why, but if you want to consider Miler a “fake brotha” and “‘passin’ guy” that is your prerogative. You are most likely not the first nor will you be the last to think that.

As for the incredibly appalling racist statements from others here, certainly there are those here who see the “Report Abuse” prompt. Goodness knows with the lack of monitoring for these types of threads on gossip and media sites of this nature [I swear this place is turning into PH's site more and more every new WM item], there has to be some way to inform JJ of the truly vile comments posted from time to time.

Wentworth Miller, star of Fox’s Prison Break, answers questions in the April 10 issue of TV Guide. Inevitably, the issue of race comes up, and he responds on what it feels like to be a racial spy, since many do not know he is biracial. His answer is an honest and straightforward one, and seems to indicate that he is a regular, though very hot, guy!

When asked about your race, what do you tell people?
I say I’m of mixed race, and if they ask for specifics, I rattle off the details: My mother is Russian, French, Syrian, Lebanese and Dutch; my father is African-American, Jamaican, English, German and part Cherokee.

How difficult was it dealing with racism growing up and now trying to find roles in Hollywood?
I’ll find myself standing in the company of someone who will make an offhand coment about someone else who is clearly “this” or “that,” knowing that they haven’t realized that I may also be “this” or “that.”

They feel free to make that sort of comment in front of me, and then I’m faced with the choice of “Do I stop the party and start lecturing, or do I keep quiet and internalize this insult to someoen who looks like they could be my family?” It’s a difficult choice, and I”d like to say that I always do the right thing, but the fact is it can be exhausting trying to educate someone. Confronting people can be difficult. As for how race has played into my experience in teh business, it’s really difficult to say. Obviously I’m not in the room when they’re talking about my audition tape, so I don’t know what goes into that process. I will say I’ve been fairly pleased by the reaction to my castin in Prison Break, which is basically no reaction at all. I’m playing a white character. There are those who would argue that actors of a certain background should not play certain parts, and those who would argue that those limitations should be challenged. I’m not interested in weighing in on that. I just want to work.

Playing the race card? I stated my opinion about him, and the obvious fact that he exploits his black image as a media selling point about himself and the fact that he benefits from passin’ but to keep you from seeing it as such he/ his pr, now has to get a pic out there of him and his family reunion which will keep you tied to the idea he is black.

How can he be, if his mom is white. Why is he associated to being black..because it sells in the media that he’s the white guy that is black. This family pic now out there aids in that thinking. For me the timing is suspect..right after his pic of him and this Amie.

Now automatically you jumped to suggesting what should he do to prove he is black by dressing like a “gansta?” Or throw on “bling”. That came from you ok, not me, because that is an absurd point. In fact I saw that movie Human Stain, and quite frankly I was turned off by that character he portrayed..and it was more disturbing that he as an actor would feel comfortable taking that role as a “passin” for white black guy who in a boxing situation refers to another black man as a n*igg*r.

BTW, discussion about race in america and the media does not keep anyone stuck…(i.e..sagging economy and other social Infrastructures keep people stuck) Debating is when you open yourself up to arguing in civil discourse your opposing view.
I don’t need to talk about Michael Jackson and OJ…. although they too are part of the media and play a part in perception in it..they’ve been talked about and discussed for years anyway.
