There’s a lot of hoopla surrounding Zac Efron these days. The rumor gamut runs from the good and the bad to the ugly. But amidst all this misinformation floating around, has anyone stopped to take a look at this young man’s character? No, I’m not talking about a movie character. I’m talking about his moral character.

One’s moral fiber is defined by behavior that makes him distinctive, makes him stand out from others. So, what exactly about Zac Efron sets him apart from the crowd? There are numerous components that frame a person’s moral character. For sake of brevity, let’s focus on two aspects of Zac’s character–integrity and his courage to maintain a commitment.

It’s obvious he has integrity, and stands up for what he believes. Despite being on just about ever top list of young stars that’s come out this year, he’s still humble. Still what he calls “just Zac.” Most young men his age, had they won half the accolades as Zac, would be out partying their young lives away, boozing, womanizing, throwing their money to the wind. Not Zac.

Another unique character trait of Zac’s is his ability to understand what commitment entails and the fortitude to remain true to such a commitment. Okay, you know where I’m going with this. Let’s talk about commitment. Commitment in a relationship.

For over two years, Zac has been committed to one girl. His Lady Vanessa. He chose her. The two of them made the decision to be faithful to each other. No one twisted their arms or stuck needles in them and forced them into the relationship. From the interviews I’ve seen with these two, and the HSM2 backstage footage, they made this decision because they genuinely care about each other.

In my world, a committed relationship is an outstanding character trait in two people as young as Zac and Vanessa. Yet, there are people who don’t like this character trait in Zac. They want him to break his commitment to this girl he has chosen above all others. They want him to be attached to someone THEY choose for him. These desperate young girls, in their unrealistic fantasies, erase Zac’s chosen lady out of pictures and Photoshop in the girl THEY want him to be with.

But they go ever farther in their idealistic whimsy. They make up monikers for Zac and said girl THEY want him to be with. They beg for sightings of Zac and the person THEY want him to be with. Forget the fact that both Zac and Vanessa admit they are a couple and we see them together as a couple. In their anger, these adolescent girls hurl insults at Zac and Vanessa, insisting there is no relationship between them–never has been, never will be.

What these tween-agers fail to realize is that demeaning another person’s chosen partner is the highest form of disrespect. By constantly insulting Zac’s choice of ladylove and insisting that he dump her, they are in fact stating that pledging your commitment to another is not important.

If these young girls are truly Zac fans, they need to stop and realize that the very reasons we respect Zac is because of his strong moral fiber. None of us have it in our power, to force another person to make the choices WE want. When you respect a person, you respect his choices. Even the person he chooses to love.

With all the media frenzy surrounding Zac and Vanessa, and the stalking paparazzi, let’s not create any more conflict for them. Let’s be loyal fans and support them in all aspects of their lives.
