Celebrity Reactions to Heath Ledger’s Death
Here are the first celebrity reactions of Heath Ledger’s death:
“I am just beyond sad at this point and shocked. I was on my way over to pay him a visit when I found out. I had just left him a message and heard his voice on the machine. He was such a special and genuine person, so extraordinarily talented because he was so raw and honest with his feelings. He was so full of life, so electric…. This is immensely sad.” — supermodel Helena Christensen, rumored to have been romantically involved with Heath
“What a tragedy. My heart goes out to his family.” — Nicole Kidman
“I am shocked and very saddened by the news. I deeply respect Heath’s work and always admired his continuing development as an artist. My thoughts are with his family and close friends.” — Cate Blanchett
“I had such great hope for him. He was just taking off and to lose his life at such a young age is a tragic loss. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.” — Mel Gibson
“He is one of my favorite actors. His abilities are rare…it’s a tremendous loss. It’s hard to be here celebrating Australia under these circumstances.” — John Travolta
“It was with great sadness that I have learned of the passing of Heath Ledger. It is tragic that we have lost one of our nation’s finest actors in the prime of his life. Heath Ledger’s diverse and challenging roles will be remembered as some of the great performances by an Australian actor.” — Kevin Rudd, Prime Minister of Australia
“The studio is stunned and devastated by this tragic news. The entertainment community has lost an enormous talent. Heath was a brilliant actor and an exceptional person. Our hearts go out to his family and friends.” — Statement by Alan Horn, President and COO of Warner Bros. and Jeff Robinov, President, Warner Bros. Pictures Group

He had been diagnosed with pneumonia and that’s why he was in NYC instead of in London working on his movie with Terry Gilliam. I adored Heath. He was very sweet and very talented. He had so much to look forward to and he loved being with his daughter. He was scheduled to work with Sean Penn whom he just idolized and he was very admiring and good friends with Terry Gilliam. I am so terribly sorry for his family. He was a lovely man. Truly a lovely person.
If anything, I hope this brings some of the more self-destructive actors and actresses of Hollywood to re-examine their behavior, for them to seek help, and for people to review the over-use perhaps of meds.
#47 is so right. Movies are meant to move people, movie is art, and art makes us think and inspires.
UNBELIEVABLE! It’s been 5 hours and I still am in shock! RIP LOVE YOU FOREVER HEATH!!!! prayers go out to his family and especially his child!
Utterly shocked…

I was really looking forward to him becoming the kind of actor that he CAN become. He’s extremely talented and one of the best actors among his peers. What a loss.
GO KEVIN!
I completely agree with John Travolta.
How are we meant to celebrate Australia this long weekend after losing one of our greatest Actors this country has ever known

sorry, i know off topic sort of, but just saying.
really?
I cant believe it.
I really like him as an actor.
R.I.P. Heath.
how ridiculously apropos: bringing up cliches. what, pray tell, is more cliche than a young star who od’s? cliches, indeed…
i make no apologies for having standards that do not include respecting hedonistic hollywood stars who piss god-given talent away. incidentally, i don’t see why in the amalgam of reactions to such news, curiosity about the cause of death is deemed a terribly inappropriate response.
May his soul rest in peace. How tragic, another beautiful life wasted.
R.I.P Heath.. its so sad… i cant believe it
Rest in Peace
