Tue, 22 January 2008 at 7:51 pm
A rep for Heath Ledger’s family says Heath’s death was accidental.
The cops told the Ledger family that there is no evidence that he may have committed suicide, reports TMZ.
His family says he was not that kind of person to have taken his own life.
Heath was sick with pneumonia when he died today in NY. His autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow.
Former fiancee Michelle Williams is currently on a plane en route to NYC.

He had pneumonia according to Jared/s new info on the main page. he was probably taking anit-biotics for that as well. He should have been in the hospital, not at “home”,
To Just Me- yes people who commit suicide are being outright selfish - but they are in PAIN. Emotional or psychological pain so great that they cannot or do not know how to communicate it to other people and feel alone. Whether its true or not, that’s how the feel.
I think we all wish that people would choose to seek help from others rather than take their own lives but sometimes they’re just not that strong - sometimes people are just too human. And even in death, even by their own hands they need understanding eventually not hatred or loathing perhaps pity but not loathing.
Suicide creates anger in survivors.
# 54 RIP @ 01/22/2008 at 8:33 pm This makes it even more sad he was probably all confused taking a variety of pills in addition to having pneumonia.

In reality, we all die of because of heart failure…bottom line. When a good friend of mine died from too many drugs, that was the “family’s story”. HIs family, obviously, out of love, issued a statement without really knowing why he died. Is an accidental overdose considered a suicide and how does one tell the difference?
And, in the long run, what the hell does it matter anyway? No one will ever know, except his family, and that is how it should be. So, yeah it will be spun until the snow melts. Let’s just let him be in peace.
He will be sadly missed! I so admired all his work, he was so talented. This is such a tragedy, such a handsome and wonderful actor. RIP Heath, you will be missed forever.
if the post-mortem results come back indicating suicide, i dont think his family would believe it then either. i suppose theres 5 stages to grief so i hope the paps leave them alone to go through them. perez hilton and tmz are absolutely f*cking shameless beyond belief for the way they’re pestering friends and family and concocting stories about him being a drug addict. b*stards
I am so sad~~~Can’t believe it. He was such a talent actor. He will be missed very much by many people. My prayers goes out to him and his family.
I am in shock, I can’t believe it. He looks exhaused in the most recent pictures taken of him the last few months. I could not even guess what happened…my heart goes out to his family.
so sad
Yo this is Anna Nicole all over….If he was sick how come he was in London this past Saturday and then back in NYC today or maybe even yesterday? You don’t get on a plane when you have pneumonia. Maybe he didn’t know and was diagnosed when he got back to NYC? I feel sick.
aii ke triste noticiaA! =(
ke deskanceE en paz! =,(
terrible tragedy.
rest in peace.
So incredibly tragic! I agree with the other posters that said one should’t rush to judge other people. Everyday, people die accidentally. Even if he did take his own life, that is between him and his maker. The article I just read about him told of so many great plans he had for this year…Just my opinion, but that doesn’t sound like someone that was planning to end his life…Rest in love and peace Heath. In such a short time, you touched so many.
Heath’s dead was surely an accidental overdose. He said in a recent interview about his Batman movie that the role he was playing was very exhausting because it was an extremely difficult role to portray (the Joker) and it cost him a lot of sleep. He often got tired and ill and was reportedly suffering from pneumonia as well as exhaustion when he died. This film role is what did him in. Since Heath is a brilliant actor, putting 110% into his roles, the complicated and scary antagonistic role cost him his life. Rest in Peace, Heath. You were a brilliant actor.
To MonkeyShines…
It is true you are right!!
But that remains and will remain an act of selfishness!!
I am so sick and tired of hearing people dying unnecessarily. Now were are sitting her waiting for Britney or Amy Winehouse to suffer the same fate.
This is just too tragic. Enough is enough.

A colleague of mine died of pneumonia. One day, she was still at work and went home because she was sick, and a couple of days later, she was dead. Everyone in the office was shocked. They did a post mortem and found out that the lungs were really congested. A doctor told us it’s akin to drowning coz you are not getting enough oxygen.
Pneumonia is an illness that can happen very fast but people think its just a bad cough or cold or congestion and don’t take it seriously enough. If your lungs are congested, it places pressure on the heart course you aren’t getting enough oxygen.
Somehow, I agree that his death was accidental, not suicide. If he’s taking anti-biotics and sleeping pills (could have adverse reactions to each other), and then couple that with stress traveling back and forth London and NYC shooting movies and what-have-yous, I’d be surprised if his body could still take that much torture. With a soaring career, suicide would probably be the last thing on his mind, unless he was doing a Kurt Cobain-Janis Joplin-Jimi Hendrix death at 27 thing (he’s overshoot by a year). My heart goes out to his daughter. He’s such a great actor, and a good dad. Rest in peace, Heath.
michelle williams was his wife, just saying because you made this mistake twice!
A friend of mine died suddenly of meningitis. Her best friend (a mutual friend of mine) told our class she looked so much better and would be back in 2 days. She died the following day.
Pneumonia, meningitis, etc. these illnesses need to be monitored and taken seriously. I’m so sad he was so dedicated to his work he over-exhausted himself and it was probably all too easy to OD when he simply wanted some rest. I’ll be waiting for the medical results. I’m so sorry no one was with him. May his soul RIP and may his family be blessed.

Yo - Lylian - Was there a bottle of pills by her also? These celebs are just people with the same pain and problems with finding peace on earth….prolly harder for them, because we have all made them out to be these demi-gods that we worship…..
If the family is already saying it is accidental, and the autopsy has not even been done yet, and the tox screens are not back…let’s just say it was accidental and wish him the peace he may not have found on earth.
Peace to his family and most of all, him.
island girl, that was a disrespectful question. I hope you were honestly asking. She was just stating the seriousness of illness and the suddenness of death.

They were engaged, not married.
I still can’t believe it. It’s just not sinking in. I keep waiting for the story to break that it was all just one huge miscommunication and he’s fine.
We’re the same age and I’m Australian. I remember him in Home & Away and have followed his career ever since. So I feel as though I’ve grown up watching him.
I’m shattered. I can’t even begin to imagine how his family is feeling.
To tha hell #69–
UNLESS a medical advisory or doctor calls the airport to ask for a “no-flight” order is issued, people with “cold” symthoms (coughing, runny nose, low-grade fevers, etc.) get on planes everyday. I’ve heard the standard, “Must be my allegies acting up.”, I don’t know how many times.
When pneumonia is considered a “mild” case, the patient isn’t in the hospital, but at home resting, and taking their antibiotics. I’d wait for the truth to come out first…
Could be he was allergic to the antibiotics given him without even knowing it. I’ve been there. I developed bronchitis many years ago, and almost died when my esophagus started closing up! I was taken to the hospital, given a shot of epinephrine, and the right antibiotics.
I think the pills were sleeping pills right? It may not have been the pills that did him in, but the pneumonia, especially if he was walking around with it and not in a hospital. It could have been a reaction between the different medications.
I read that NYtimes article that someone posted. He said himself that he took more than required pills but that they didn’t work. Poor thing probably tried to make it work by upping the dosage on his own. to the outsider, it looks like a suicide attempt because the bottles are nearly empty. In reality all poor Heath wanted was simply that the medications work as they were supposed to.
I tried to get on IMDB and their server is down.
Condolences to his family.

Surely you are kidding….. a disrespectul question? We are blogging about a celebrity that died and the media is splashing it all over hell and back and you are asking me about my questions being disrespectful? Ingesting substances when your already ill makes a huge difference in how the body absorbs the medication.
I don’t really care how if you think it was disrespectful or not. People found dead in their apartments with pills, pneumonia or not, is very very sad.
If he died from pneumonia or an accidental overdose or suicide, the bottom line is that his little girl is without her father.
I was in total shock. I hadnt heard anything all day and i was just sitting at home getting ready to take a shower i was watching clean house on style network and i changed the channel to E news.. i saw it at the bottom of the screen my mouth dropped, I started to cry.
Heath You will be missed. We love you.
I am in SHOCK and still in SHOCK and will be in SHOCK for another day or two.
This is like a flashback as to what happened to RIVER PHOENIX!
Heath was an amazing actor…
My heart goes out to his family.
I already stated my initial sadness and I understand all that. I would write my statement to you all over again. I was just wondering if it was sincere. You somewhat clarified it, however rudely, but it’s whatever, and we obviously suffered a miscommunication. Maybe because I had a similar thing happen to a friend maybe that’s why I thought it was rude but whatever, this thread isn’t about me but I’m free to make my statements and opinions as you are free to make yours. Death is death is what were both saying essentially.
