A rep for Heath Ledger’s family says Heath’s death was accidental.
The cops told the Ledger family that there is no evidence that he may have committed suicide, reports TMZ.
His family says he was not that kind of person to have taken his own life.
Heath was sick with pneumonia when he died today in NY. His autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow.
Former fiancee Michelle Williams is currently on a plane en route to NYC.

I find that the ones who say suicide is selfish aren’t the ones who have experienced depression first hand. In my opinion its possibly one of the worst diseases a person could have to suffer through. And it doesn’t just affect you but the people that surround you as well. And its something that you can’t battle on your own. As someone said, suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Unfortunately depression clouds your mind and thats very difficult to see.
Although I am definitely NOT judging or speculating as to whether Heath Ledger committed suicide, people should be very careful about how they talk about things like this. While I do think that suicide is a selfish act, don’t judge people who have committed suicide because none of us have ever been to that point where we felt it was the only option. Depression is a horrible horrible thing and sadly some things in this world are worse than death.
But I sincerely hope that Heath did not commit suicide and thankfully its sounding like it was only an accident. But lets just wait and see what the coroner says.
Just to share with you all. Pneumonia is a silent killer if not arrested soon enough. An employee in my husband’s firm , a nice strapping young man of 30 developed a chill after his session of golf in the rain. Suffered from backpain which progressed to breathing difficuties and finally coughing blood, which led to his death. This was all in a span of a week and was initially misdiagnosed by a doctor who gave him a double dose jab of painkillers which broke down his immunity. Heath must have neglected his own condition for this to happen.
This really sucks. A week ago to the day we lost another actor and another one. This is really crazy. My heart goes out to his family and friends and loved ones. I feel bad for Michelle. I hope she can stay strong for Matilda. Stay strong Michelle. it also has to be hard to see Matilda because she is like clone of her father.
What do you want to bet the paps will be ruthless in taking pictures of Michelle when she arrives at the airport.

His death scares me. He is or was the exact same age as me.
He was named afer Heathcliff, the character in ‘Wuthering Heights’ and its one of my all time favourite books. The character Heathcliff haunted me for months after I read that novel as a teen. I feel a weared connection. I live in NYC .
I cannot express the sorrow I feel at the untimely death of Heath. I personally feel devastated even though I didnot know him. It all feels very personal to me as he was absolutely the same age as me, same date ,year of birth.
Feels very strange to write condolences for a person who shared my DOB.
I reiterate that if any of you should develop bronchitis or even worse pneumonia you should have it seen toimmediately before the situation gets any worse. It is definitely akin to drowning in your own fluids. Your lungs get clogged up and you can’t breathe.
This is clearly not a case of suicide or accidental death. It is sudden death from an illness untreated.

Wow…it’s been hours now since I heard and I’m still in so much shock over this. I am right there with those who’ve said they’re somehow waiting to hear this is not true. It’s so sad.
Heath was such a talented actor with so much promise. I own several of his movies, as I’ve enjoyed his performances immensely.
My heart and prayers go out to Michelle and Matilda and his family and friends.

When you have pneumonia, you have trouble breathing. Heath was also a smoker and someone who always had sinus problems aggravated by his smoking. It would not be unusual for someone like him to not be eating properly, or getting enough sleep, and getting worse. So he pops pills to feel better and keep going. He takes sleeping pills bcz he can’t sleep…but bcz he has pneumonia, he is having breathing problems aggravated by his smoking…and that is why he cannot sleep. He can’t breathe. So he takes more sleeping pills. It could have been the interaction of various meds, too. This is all so very very sad. I hate all the nasty specualtion. Heath would have been so disgusted at this.

Heath Ledger is a great loss to the industry. What a waste. He will surely be missed by his fans around the globe. My condolences to his family, former girlfriend Michelle Williams and his daughter Matilda.
i REALLY cant believe what happened, i mean, i just woke up this morning and my Dad came in and said “morning Sweety, i have some bad news 4 u, Heath Ledger was found dead, it was a drug overdose, possibly suicide.” i stayed i bed and just cried.
May his soul rest in peace. How tragic, another beautiful life wasted.
I really wasn’t a fan of his, but this is just so surreal and sad. However he died, whether from suicide, overdose, pneumonia, etc doesn’t matter. The fact remains that he was too young and this wasn’t his time. I feel SO bad for that little girl.
Anon, very valid point. Heath had probably breathing difficulties because of his condition ,coupled with the sleeping pills, I would say it was a lethal combination that did him in. Definitely, was not his intention to take his own life. At least he did not suffer and probably was not aware of the final moments.

I am so sorry but “ACCIDENTAL” OVERDOSE on SLEEPING PILLS??? Okay if you are taking heroin or speed I could understand someone getting a bad batch and having a fatal reaction to it especially if you don’t know what the stuff is cut with. But sleeping pills or anxiety pills (whatever they’re saying Heath took)?? Say I’ve been prescribed these sleeping pills/anxiety pills - it probably said to take 1 in morning and 1 at night. Say I forget if I took my morning pill - I DOUBT VERY MUCH THAT IF I TOOK ANOTHER ONE THAT DAY I WOULD DIE!!!!! ON THE OTHER HAND IF I TOOK HALF A PACKET OKAY I’M IN BIG TROUBLE!! And also this crap about him having pneumonia and the pills treating that must have reacted with the sleeping pills blah blah. If he had pneumonia why was he on his own?? If I got sick with pneumonia my sister would be dragging my **** back to her place to look after me or come stay with me at my place and vice versa. Where were his assistants, friends, etc if he was so sick??? I suppose when the toxicology reports come out all we be revealed (if of course they reveal the results). I won’t be surprised if they find more than sleeping/anxiety pills in his blood. And then of course everyone will stop being sympathetic and rip into Heath for being stupid - just watch.
