amie #19, I agree with you. What’s so hard to get about “her acting sucks”? Funny, how attitudes and opinions change when it doesn’t work out to the Brangelina benefit, isn’t it?

Congrats to all the nominees. They deserve it. I, for one, will be watching, since I won’t have to look at the smug face of Angelina Jolie and her little lost boy!

I left something out of this
…… the bad wig and fake french accent did her in
…… the bad wig, fake french accent, and two facial expressions did her in

As a fan of Angelina’s who thought her performance in AMH was very powerful, I’m disappointed that she wasn’t nominated. But, she’s had plenty of recognition from other movie buffs and critics. Not every deserving actress can get nominated, not every deserving actress gets to win. (Remember Gwyneth and Cate way back??)

Let’s not call foul on the voters. in cricket, you are supposed to respect the umpires, and we should do so now.

I can’t beleive it ? Laura Linney was not included in any critics award, she was in the list instead of Angelina ? oscar suck !
Oscar was too politics, I notice none of the war related movies were included.

No Denzel Washington for “American Gangsta”…not even Russell Crowe, which was his best role in years!

___
Excellent performances

Too bad Angelina is not there. I wont say you suck but you have favourites. Favouritism going on here boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooobbbbbbbooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
bbbbbpoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

I loooove the sudden change of opinion regarding the Oscars, by the fans, now that Angie wasn’t nominated.
The Oscars “used” to be so wonderful, blah, blah, blah…..now it’s political, biased, etc etc etc…..
I hope none of the their heads flew off changing their minds soooo quickly and so completely! Ha!

most ugle, stupid and the worst award…
where are angie and brad????????????
where is JAMES mac….??
or keira????
I really have no words…

No, the wig and accent is only a part of it. Her ability to transform herself into one of her best friend’s worst week of her life is what earned all the critical acclaim she HAS received.

If you saw both Angelina and Ellen play their respective roles, can you honestly say that Ellen had to even get close to the range of emotion that Jolie had to? No, no, nooooooo.

Ellen Page is a new, wonderfully talented actor, but I just don’t think her performance was worthy of an Oscar nom.

The other person that played a role with alot more range and demands is Kiera Knightly.

If you (like Patti) just don’t like Angelina, OK. But, it is what it is, and life goes on.

Oscar ratings will plummet cuz even if you like the JP’s or not, the red carpet does….

I wish children would not post on this blogs. It’s so unfortunate that the adults have to tolerate such immature and narrowminded rants. The Academy is like any other political machine with much less to do with real talent recognition and much more to do with the alliances, overdue compensations and PR(public relations). It’s sad that you have know how to play the game to get recognition. It shouldn’t matter if this person is nominated then we need to shut this person out or they have an award already and we this person doesn’t or if we nominate them then they might steal the show or take the thunder from our ego salicious academy friendly friend…It’s sad. The Academy has lost all credibility for me because I don’t like politics and I don’t appreciate the good ole boy system and I won’t accept bias or prejudice on any level. BOYCOTT the Oscars and support the WGA(Writer’s Guild Asssociation)…

))i do so the mistake that you…pingy-pongy

[~F a m o u s~] @ 01/22/2008 at 10:06 am

um, where’s denzels name?!? wow..

ellen page rocked. angie did not - no nom! lmaoo

depp, for sweet garbage??? cant be serious!

overall, there were some surprises, but past history proves that the Academy will do what they want in regards to nominees…

a lot of people are fuming over Angelina’s snub…I think the argument of politics or that they dislike them is a mute point…after all, the Academy has more motive to dislike past winners like Sean Penn and Russell Crowe who have publicly criticized the Academy members and their decisions…I think their fans are stretching it a bit by making excuses…

Overall, I liked Angelina in AMH, but I was more impressed by the performance of her costar who played the General. He blew me away! I do believe that if Cate Blanchett wouldn’t have been nominated for Elizabeth, then Angelina may have grabbed a nod…but I wasn’t completely surprised by the snub…

And as for Brad, no one ever put him the race for any nomination…I heard positive things about AOJJ, but a lot of people said that unless you were interested in the topic or love dialogue films (as I do), then it was a snooze fest and way too long…so not disappointing there…

I was so proud that Juno received recognition…it is time for a well written, witty comedy to get some wins…and I was thrilled for Daniel Day Lewis and Viggo Mortensen (I loved Eastern Promises)!!

Interesting nod choices though…oh well, this year doesn’t seem to be as enthusiastic as past year shows…I may skip it all together…

I hope the writters strike will keep the Oscars off the air and all the actors at home. WAY TOO much is made of winning and loseing. Many those winners never act in a good role again , making their big win a shot in the dark. How do you know with a new face if the role was just easy for them or they can really act?

For me I will do what I have been doing for the past few years-watch something else.

Well said. You are so right, not every deserving actor gets nominated. I guess I have zoned in on the Angelina factor, only because I am biased, but reading your thoughts have brought it into perspective for me. Thanks for sharing your wisdom!

Johnny Depp better win for best actor

I can’t believe it James was snubbed??? That was a fantastic performance from him, so moving. Keira as well, they were both so good. At least the film was recognised.

if american gangster was nominated then they really would be scraping the bottom of the barrell. no where near crowe of washingtons best peformances.

WTF was Ellen Page nominated?? And they snubbed James McAvoy. What a piece of typical Oscar BS. Granted I’m not a big fan of Jolie sometimes, but I will say this her character had more range than Page’s did. I thought Page came off very wooden and 2D in her role *shrugs*. If any young talent was to be nominated for “actress in a leading role” I was hoping it would be Amy Adams again or Nikki from Hairspray. IMO Ellen Page is overrated, and it will be interesting if she can succeed after Juno. Cause, honestly, thus far and no ill intent to Page. Right now her acting in X-Men 3 is basically similar to her acting style in Juno.

This is why I like the Golden Globes better……..

Damn you voters. Where is ANGELINA??

‘Johnny Depp better win for best actor ‘

I would not count on that-his nom was a thank you for his big box office.

maybe somebody else is proving they’ve overdosed on the Brad and Angelina hype- very amusing snub indeed!!

Angelina Jolie already won an Oscar for “Girl Interrupted” so it’s not like she hasn’t been recognized. I’m not saying therefore she should never win another one but she’s still young there’s plenty of time. Besides as someone has pointed out, I don’t think she really cares about the Oscars.

As far as this years Oscars here are my picks:

Best Supporting Actress: Cate Blanchett. This kind of bugs because she already (deservedly) won an Oscar just a couple of years ago for “The Avatior”. I wish they would spread the wealth around a bit more. Plus her playing Bob Dylan was just stunt casting no matter how brilliant her performance may have been.

I would love to see it to Ruby Dee for “American Gangster.” She was very good in the movie and she has had a long and distinguished career. I would also be happy if Saoirse Ronan won for “Atonement.” She was excellent in the film and I think the Academy is due for another Anna Paquin type upset.

Best Supporting Actor: Javier Bardeem this IMHO is quite simply no contest. I have a lot of unresolved qualms with “No Country for Old Men”. But he was terrifyingly brilliant or should I say brilliantly terrifying. Either way he’s been sweeping ALL the criitics award and just like Jennifer Hudson was last year he seems unstoppable.

Best Actress:Julie Christie. Another past Oscar for “Darling” in 1965. So I think more then enough time has past. I would love to see Ellen Page win for “Juno. But you have a woman playing an Alzheimer’s patient vs. A woman playing a pregnant teenager. I think its clear who the Academy will go for.

Best Actor: Daniel Day Lewis who won for “My Left Foot” in 1989, again I think enough time has past. But I’m hoping for Johnny Depp for “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.” This should be his year in my opinion.

Best Director: Joel and Ethan Coen. The ending of “No Country for Old Men” ticked me off so badly where I went through a peroid where I said I will never see a Coen Brothers movie again. But I’ve gotten over that peroid of insanity. These guys are brilliant.

Nothing would make me happier then if Jason Reitman got for “Juno” but that’s not going to happen.

Best Picture: “No Country for Old Men” Despite my love/hate “relationship” with this film I can’t deny that is in many ways absolutely brilliant. My personal preference would be for “Juno” followed by “Atonement. But just as 2006 was Martin Scorsese’s year I have a feeling that 2007 belongs to the Coen Brothers.

Thank you. My reaction was the same….WTF…? Juno could have been a movie on Lifetime if you ask me.

Keira and James were royally ripped off. Don’t think the Academy stuffed azzzes like Kiera very much….

NO ONE WILL BE WATCHING THIS YEAR. IT GETS WORSE EACH YEAR

I’m so happy Keira Knightly got snubbed

And please haters don’t think a lack of one Oscar nod to Angelina makes her a terrible actress or she won’t get one in the future. Put down the hatorade

I’m very disappointed for Angelina: she deserved the nomination!!!
I like Cate but 2 nominations are too much!!!….
I didn’t like Michael Clayton it’s a boring movie as well as George’s performance. I’m happy for Julie Christie.
Academy doesn’t understand anything.!!!!

I hope Cate wins!

Angie didn’t get a nomination! How unfair :(
She did an amazing job in A mighty heart! So saaaaaaad

troy: are you saying that because someone is a recent Oscar winner, that they don’t deserve another win even if their performance was stellar? I think that plays right into what people are saying about the Academy

And if I follow your logic, then you are also saying that Julie Christie should win because she played a more dramatic or difficult part than Ellen Page. But let’s flashback to this win- Denzel over Russell Crowe. And that was a tough cop/filthy mouth vs. a schizo genius. Hmmm…who had the bigger challenge that year? I’d say Russell hands down, but he lost out.

People should win because they deserve the win. Not as a makeup Oscar for a past snub or a pass because someone won an Oscar in the previous few years.

Angie wasn´t nominated. next year will be. But it doesn`t matter because she already has an Oscar, 3 Golden Globe, 2 SAG. 23 awards won & 30 awards nominated = Her talent has recognized 53 times, she´s only 32 years old! :)

my favorites:

BEST PICTURE
No Country for Old Men

BEST ACTOR
Daniel Day Lewis, There Will Be Blood

BEST ACTRESS
Julie Christie, Away From Her

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR
Javier Bardem, No Country for Old Men

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS
Cate Blanchett, I’m Not There

BEST DIRECTOR
Julian Schnabel, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly

You read your first line, and then rethink who should put down the “hatorade”. It sounds like “disappointmentade” to me.

Go Amy Ryan for Gone Baby Gone - she was faneffingtastic in that role. That doesn’t mean I hatarading on Cate BTW.
