The bitter Angie fans are annoying me. She just is not that good. I am glad laura Linney and Ellen Page got it over her, they are way superior actresses. I am glad about Casey Affleck too, always loved him. Juno made me cry, laugh and smile, that is a good movie.

you brangelina fans will spin this anyway you can to act like angie and brad came out on top…when it’s completely OBVIOUS they didn’t. congrats on your fantastic coping skills though!

Since Angie is robbed why do you think they’re going to the Oscar??Mark my word, even if the strike is resolved, they are NOT going, period. As I said earlier, Angie and Brad are not playing the Hollywood games, they will not fall to their level. Let’s hope for this year’s Changeling will score her many accolades and Brad’s CCOBB
as well. As a fan of this couple, I’m sure in time the acknowledgements will come. Peace to all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It’s like all of the fans are saying, they won’t be there and so they will suck. If either had a nod this whole page would have a completely different mood on this site. Now it’s all “politics” and “jilted” talk.
There’s nothing wrong with the other actors nominated.

My opinion is if they were nominated, they would be there. Since they are not, yes, they won’t go. If you read up a bit, all the fans make it out like they won’t go out of spite. Which is probably true. I just think it’s in good taste to show support no matter what the case.

Why the f*ck did this turn into an Angelina Jolie thread? My lord, there are so many more deserving performers to discuss. How about the ones who were actually nominated? Ellen Page’s character in Juno was incredibly annoying, but that doesn’t mean she didn’t play it well enough for a nod. That entire cast was pretty amazing, especially her dad and stepmom who probably should have both been nominated themselves.

Oscar got it all wrong this year:

No Denzel, No Russel Crowe and no Angelina Jolie. Ellen Page for Juno is a joke. I mean really. She was good for a teen for come on! And The Great Debaters should have been nominated for something.

Awful. I am saddened but then again, the Oscaars are so often out of touch. At least Keira Knightley was not nominated! Thank Goodness for that!

can you shut up…..!!!!!!

lousie,
You crazy. She was great. The acadmy is poltics. Envy is probably in the minds of those voters. It is very disapointing. That talent was worth to be recognized.

Cate Blanchett did not deserve the nomination. The film was terrible and she played the same role she played in Elizabeth I I’ll say this though: the reason Angie was not nominated is because she doesn’t get into the politics of promoting herself for these things. She is too busy for it. But I think, next time, she should probably think of doing so. I mean why else would Julie Christie get nominated for a movie no one saw ? I didn’t even know that movie existed and I see everything! If Angie had petitioned for the nom, she would have gotten it - that is how these things work in Hollywood. That said, she did the film for Dannie Pearl. And I think his story was the most heartbreraking of all in films this past year. That and The Great Debaters. Too bad Oscar - you could have had a real competition. Now, it ’s boring. Also, Perse[polis should have been nominated for best foreign film - that is what they submitted for and instead they were nominated for best animated feature.

sooooooo….if the angie supporters are correct and the oscars are “political”……how do they explain her win for girl interrupted???? did the politics not exist then? what happened? what’s different? please explain.

Canton - It’s called hypocrisy.

Could anyone stop to think that despite the fact that AJ might have given a good performance in A Mighty Heart, that perhaps it wasn’t BETTER or AS GOOD as those that were nominated? There are many, many excellent performances every year and only 5 spots under each category. You do the math.

eastern promises was a brilliant movie, and viggo mortensen should get the gong because he was ace in it. hes also the hottest guy on the list, but thats beside the pont

atonement was a terrible movie thats why it was excluded. keira knightely can’t act her way out of a paper bag. ellen page should win best actress for juno

Ha!
thanks for explaining…i found myself to be so confused about it all. ;)

I’m really happy that Cate got nominated.

But it’s just wrong that both Keira and James got left without a nomination. I also expected Angelina to get one for A Might Heart.. Well, I won’t be watching the Oscars this year.

Brangie Fan @ 01/22/2008 at 12:37 pm

Angie has an Oscar and Brad has an Oscar nomination. I am disappointed this year, but there will be other nominations in the future. Angie has a successful career for over 10 years. Brad for over 15 years. They can choose when to work and what parts to play..

She has received so many other nominations for her role in AMH. She did a great job, even if the Academy did not give her a nomination..

If the Academy had acknowledged her role in AMH, then they would have given a lot of recognition to the movie ifself. I think there is a little politics in this - perhaps the Academy did not want to stir the “terrorist” pot so to speak, even though the movie’s message was one of tolerance.

Angie is recognized as a serious, acclaimed actress. And she has made a name for herself beyond Hollywood. Over the last 7 years she has accomplished so much in the international humanitarian arena. So much that it lit a fire under other celebrities to do more. She also has become a young mother of 4 young children and she is a life partner since 2005..

Don’t know if I will watch the Oscars, but will continue to support the JPs and take interest in what they do.

Niiiiiiiccce 4 Ruby Dee, Cate B., Depp and Day-Lewis.

angie’s fans need to stop with the ranting already. you are making yourselves look bad and her also by association. calm down.

Don’t think I will watch the Oscars now. It will be long and boring.

Would you be kind enough to explain in what way attending a ceremony to show some support for your costar (C.Affleck) in a film that your company has co-produced (TAOJJ) would be” playing Hollywood games”?
Besides, this film is also nominated for technical awards and its cinematography. So,coming to the ceremony would not be “a fall to their level”,but rather a way to show that you’re a team player.
Are you telling us that he only cares for this film if it brings him personal awards(like in Venice)but has no consideration for it the day the light is on somebody else?Wow and you say that’s Hollywood’s level that is low!!!(By the way they belong to Hollywood)

Do you think those people who put up the nominations ever read “trash-magazines”?

Seems to me at times like they won´t put up certain actors on the list only to proove their point.

I bet you a thousand bucks, that they never EVER would have put Johnny Depp on the list if his face had appeared on in magazines more often.

I saw so much more than that. In the scene where she is in bed, looking at her cell phone and all you see are her eyes. There was so much sadness, desperation, unbelief in her eye- as if she is begging the cell phone to tell more. She conveyed so much in that one scene. Then in the scene close to the end, when she says “I am not terrorized, you cannot be terrozied” was so powerful but in a subdued wal. It was as it she is giving the others as well as the audience the courage to stay strong in the face of terrorism.

So very glad Joile didn’t get a nomination. I’m sick of looking at her. Rarely even bother to look at she and Brad Pitt pictures. I really used to lkie Brad Pitt, but don’t think too much of him since being with Joile.

+++++++++++++++

Certainly they would go, if nominated! How does anyone just go to the Award Ceremony unless you are nominated, a presenor or INVITED? Unless they are invited, how could they just show up?

Explain to little ole me who just isn’t gettin’ what the heck you are saying.

groundcontrol @ 01/22/2008 at 1:04 pm

With the way AMPAS tabulates the votes for nominees it is not that surprising that Jolie missed out. Voters have to list their choices preferentially in order. You have to get first place on a certain number of ballots to get a nomination. It’s a weird system but that’s how it works. If every single one voting for nominees thought Jolie gave the third best performance by an actress this year, she still wouldn’t get a nomination unless she also got a certain number of first place votes.

I was more impressed that she got a SAG nomination because that has always been the harder nomination to get and is taken more seriously than the Oscars by actors. Primarily because it is usually free of politics and missing “favorites.”

As much as I like Cate Blanchett, there was a time she couldn’t get nominated for anything (even when much deserved) and now it seems they will nominate her for ANYTHING. Her Best Actress nom is not warranted at all. I even quibble with her nom for I’m not there. It’s another mimicky performance like her Oscar win as Katherine Hepburn which I wasn’t crazy about to begin with.

But that’s the Oscars for you. Finally giving Al Pacino an Oscar for maybe one of the worst performances of his career. Oscar history is full of those missteps.

I’m sure Jolie is fine. Her performance as Pearl is one of the more honored acting jobs of this year. It isn’t like she doesn’t already have an Oscar. I’m sure she’s more upset for Pitt that Jesse James didn’t get more deserved recognition. Happy for the 2 noms it did get but it deserved more - especially for its beautiful and haunting score.

Someone earlier in the thread mentioned something about the Academy punishing Jolie because she and Pitt didn’t go the Oscars last year. I don’t know where people get these goofy ideas from but that couldn’t be more wrong. Actors rarely go to the Oscars when they are not nominated.

You’re sick of looking at her? Poor you, as the media and the cameras and the directors and her costars and Mr. Brad Pitt all seem to love the heck out of her.

Problems in bambam world? You sound like driven with envy to dislike someone that doesn’t know you exist. Go work on your world, cuz you sound sad/mad/uglier than an old shoe.

She needs to dump Brad and his giant nostrils. Make sure she looks wounded and hurt by the breakup for more sympathy.
Freaking part 2 of Cate’s movie sucked and just because they messed up the first time around and gave Gwyny poo the award instead of cate that doesn’t make it fair to the talented people THIS YEAR. They were a joke last year too when they handed the award over to that old dude from little miss sunshine.

I watched Little miss sunshine after the awards last year and I was shocked that that guy won .

I think that at that time AJ wasn’t high profile yet, and no female with a vote resented her. Now I have the feeling that some of them envy her and will never vote for her no matter how brilliant she is in a movie.
I’m sure AJ got votes too, but not enough.

A voter can claim to be objective, but I think her personal feelings do play a role in her choices.
