A mighty Heart was a terrible movie on many levels and as far as acting goes - I’ve seen better soaps. Angie is becoming one dimentional - same face expressions for all movies and same silly accents - either that or looking with her eyes down seductively licking her finger - not acting in my book — she deserves not to get a nomination.

disappointed that sweeney, tim and helena didn’t get noms, but I think the majority of the choices are good and really varied.
hope johnny and ellen win!!

i knew it!

the academy is intelegent enough to see that Angie has no value as an actress! and guys you can kill me, but face it: she is not a good actress! she had this incridible chance to win an oscar for it and she didn’t, which proves how bad actress she is!
——-
What a stupid post!

No, you didn’t know it! You were hoping she wouldn’t be nominated, and now that she isn’t you say you knew it. What nonsense.

Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe aren’t nominated either. Does that mean they’re bad actors too??? Both these guys and AJ already have won!

You’re als contradicting yourself. You said ’she has no value as an actress,’ followed by ’she had this incredible chance…’

incredible, not incridible
intelligent, not intelegent.

That Stupitt is not good for her. He and his PR-machine make her look “too Hollywood.” He is 44 years old, and no awards, No PR-machines help him there. Thats sad. She needs to drop him asap.

Life is filled with moments when, after a lifetime of assuming something is valid and honorable, you suddenly wake up and realize you were wrong, you have been naive, your eyes suddenly open wide and you see the truth. This list, for me, is such a moment. The Academy Awards are an industry-fixed operation. It may not have always been so, but at this point, that is what it has become.

To accept this list of nominees, from best picture to best director, you have to be an idiot not to realize it is apparently self-serving and manipulated. It victimized many others besides Brad and Angelina. It is far more far-reaching. Brad was spectacular as Jessie James and that movie was gorgeous and unforgettable. Please tell me how Casey Afflek could have been recognized for a performance that depended solely on the equally fascinating portayal of Jessie James, the equally fascinating movie itself? Impossible. Some roles are independent of other aspects or characters, but not his. The two lead performances are interdependent, as it the film. An earlier comment wondered the same thing…how can the movie Atonement be nominated when it is soley dependent on the two lead performance, but those performances themselves are ignored? Insane.

How can you put a performance of a teen-aged actress, no matter how wonderful and cute she is, playing a teen-ager, in the category of best actress? She is playing herself, she acted like herself, cute and smart, but not in any way a huge accomplishment. To ignore Angelina as a completely believable Mariane Pearl, in such a demanding and harrowing role, in order to place the actress from a more popular, more financially successful movie, is blatantly self-serving. I’m outa here this year. NOT gonna bother. It is a ridiculous, preposterous fake, and up until this year I’ve fallen for it.

Michael Clayton? Michael Clayton with George Clooney acting like George Clooney? Looking and speaking, all mannerisms his everyday mannerisms, nominated as best actor? How can they live with this? Tilda Swinton? Ridiculous! She was fine. Adaquate. I actually found her underperforming, and at the time I saw the movie I remember feeling she was miscast because she had no personality, and didn’t bring the strength to the role it required. Michael Clayton as best picture? This is perhaps the biggest slap in the face yet. This is where I finally get it. There is something to be gained by a studio on some level with this. That can be the only answer. Not one single person I have heard from who saw this movie said anything about it was special. It was formulaic and predictable, with some moments that you rolled your eyes at because it was so contrived. Kind of like a James Bond movie when the villians are exaggerated and somehow things just happen, to allow the movie to go where the story has to go, that are almost cartoonishly unbelievable. It is clear they want to railroad this movie in for monetary purposes, not on merit. Boo.

Julie Christie does not deserve an academy award for her hammy performance. Marion Cottilard does. Angelina Jolie does. I am angry and have no respect for this industry after seeing this list. I only hope No Country for Old Men wins. I have heard it is worthy, and I have no doubt DDL is great, so I hope he wins in his category. George Clooney is a shameful, shameful name on this list, proving it is an inside job.

Brad and Angelina probably will attend to support Casey, but they should not.

#209 - so Brad & Angelina shouldn’t go to the awards (if the strike is resolved by then anyway) if they’re invited and/or just to support Casey because they weren’t nominated or because someone you didn’t like did get it? That’s a little petty don’t you think? If all actors got huffy about things like that, the AA would never have an audience! Lots of deserving actors get snubbed all the time - it happens, it’s not the end of the world. As long as the actors themselves feel good about their work, that’s all that matters.

With that said - congrats Johnny Depp! I loved Sweeny Todd and I hope he wins. I’m still kind of sad that Helena didn’t get nominated, but it just wasn’t her time. Maybe she’ll get a nod for some other role. And I hope Ruby Dee wins. She’s a great actress and has been for decades - it’s about time she got some recognition.

Just Sayin... @ 01/22/2008 at 2:38 pm

Jesus ‘addictedtobampsz’, get over yourself. You do overdramatic better than your girl does. Btw, it’s kind of ironic that you call them out for nominating Ellen Page for playing herself, when the role that won AJ an Oscar was as close to her own personality as Juno might just be to Ellen’s.

addictedtobampzs @ 01/22/2008 at 2:44 pm

Amber, sorry you didn’t get what I was saying. The major part of my post says that many, many deserving actors were overlooked for the appparent sake of the industry. I use Brad and Angelina as only two of many examples.

I did not say they should not attend for any other reason other than their presence will bring an audience to a contrived and political and in my opinion fake awards show. They bring credibility, and in this case none is deserved. The stretch here goes way beyond their movies, as I think I mentioned.

All joking aside, you all didn’t really believe Angelina Jolie’s performance was Oscar worthy, did you? How could you think she’d be nominated when no one even bothered to see the movie. The role just wasn’t natural for her… unlike in Girl, Interrupted.. in which she was so convincing. She definitely deserved that Oscar.

addictedtobampzs @ 01/22/2008 at 2:50 pm

#211, your comment makes it clear you are not interested in anything but a chance to make a stupid, stupid, stupid negative and unfair comment about an amazing humanitarian and talented actress, but have a nice day anyway.

i AM IN SHOCK and very happy. NO ANGELINA JOLIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

VIVA ACADEMIES. Holly wood has said it loud and clear. They hatew Joliepitt losers.

Woo hoo, she was even in the newsweek oscar do! What a sucker! I am so happy.

where are jameees or keira? :(
i thought at least james would get nominated. his performance was so so powerful

#212 - but was the show fake, political and contrived when Angelina won in 2000? It just seems to me that some people on here have sour grapes over something I’m sure Angelina doesn’t give two s***s about. And it’s also rude that you can say that and undermine all the other actors who were equally deserving of nods. These nominees should feel proud of themselves - hell, I know if I was nominated for an Oscar I’d be thrilled! Don’t take that away from them by saying it’s pointless because it’s not. It’s just that when people you like don’t get nods it is.

hehehe at these haters here.

HW hates them, have you missed all those HW’s people around their table at CCA.oh I guess you must miss that.

btw who cares about small world like HW,as long as they are getting movie’s offers left and right,I don’t have any problem with HW hating them. LOL

and HW hate them but more important people and more important country like them, let’s remember those craziness that happened in Toronto that all the people just assume they never have seen this happened before, sure people hates them.LOL.

I am really very sad that Angie was not nominated for AMH. But I do wish that Casey Affleck wins. For those who are bashing Angie’s acting ability, and who did not even see the movie A Mighty Heart, enough. I am sure you hate the JoliePitts for another reason too obvious to mention. Since even Newsweek, honored Angie and James McAvoy for their Oscar roundtable. You are childish with your comments. All Brad and Angie do for humanity, their efforts to help NOLA, and the needy in Darfur, Sierra Leone, etc. still you are hating them for falling in love and having children. Angie had won these awards before, and Brad had a GG before too. Just because they have a happy family and they are blessed with good looks and acting ability, you have no right to belittle them because you prefer Brad’s past lovers. Praise who you choose to win the Oscar’s but do not criticize the JoliePitt’s for their acting ability.

Stop talking about Angelina and focus on MARION COTILLARD !

You go, Marion !
She was just … ASTONISHING ! I mean she played a woman form, like her twenties to her fifties, when she looked like she was eighty, and did a really GREAT job. She was just.. beautiful ! She deserves it more than any of the others, she’s such a promising actress.

Sorry for my bad english !

And Come OOOOn, Keira ? Of course she didn’t get a nomination, the movie was good, but her performance ? Nothing special.

no he didn't @ 01/22/2008 at 3:38 pm

Brad and Angelina probably will attend to support Casey, but they should not.

_________________-

Why do you say that? Did Brad go last year when his co star was nominated but he wasn’t ? I don’t think so.

You know i cant speak for everyone because i havent seen all the nominees performances.. I did see angelina’s and honestly that had to be a hard performance to play. I agree, the wig wasnt the best. hOwever, the accent was good and the emotion’s were there. i forgot all bout angie.”. to missy and anyone else: why did she get so many reviews by a lot of critics if she wasnt so great ? also i think a lot of u haters didnt see the movie.

anyway , H w has a love and hate relationship with brad and angie.. they a times cant stand them but their always in their face, asking personal question’s..admit it haters their intriguing..but its cool life goes on and they get spend time with the family.. not go to wishy washy oscars . Peace

No nomination? Aaaah! This time, sleeping around didn’t pay off. )

^^^ joh dont talk about your mom that way
