Heath Ledger - “Entertainment Weekly” Cover
Heath Ledger: 1979-2008
Excerpt from the article: “The tragedy struck in the midst of an already hectic day in the entertainment industry, as Hollywood reacted to the morning’s announcement of the Oscar nominations and the latest buzz emanating from Sundance. But word spread with lightning speed via cell phones and BlackBerries, and in nearly every case was met with disbelief. One high-ranking studio exec, after receiving an e-mail stating that Ledger was dead, quickly wrote back: ‘What — you mean his career?’ Charlize Theron learned the news while walking a red carpet at Sundance. Josh Hartnett was blindsided at a Sundance Q&A by a question about Ledger’s death; he struggled to answer even as the crowd jeered the man who had asked it. The passing of an actor in his prime — he earned his first Oscar nomination at age 26 for Ang Lee’s Brokeback Mountain and was just months away from reinventing the Joker in the highly anticipated Batman Begins sequel, The Dark Knight — seemed too shocking to absorb at first, while at the same time painfully familiar. Within minutes of the story breaking, some 300 entertainment reporters, cameramen, photographers, and fans began to descend on Ledger’s building, creating a tableau that resembled a grisly perversion of a movie premiere. Bystanders snapped photos on cellphones and paparazzi climbed the fire escape of the building across the street hoping for shots into Ledger’s fourth-floor loft. ‘It’s crazy — he was so young,’ said one stunned observer.”

Wow… He’s dead. Who cares? There’s nothing you can do about it. Yes, it was a tragedy…but no one can bring him back. Stop talking about it, let it rest.
I’m so sad over this…. Rest in peace Heath! My prayers go out to your family and friends.

One of the finest actors in existence. Until a day ago. Tragic, tragic loss. He by rights should have won the 2006 Oscar for his Brokeback Mountain performance. A truly great accomplishment of acting.
R.I.P:((((((

I don’t want to know the reason why you’re so insensitive… but you are. Would you like for people to forget you the day after you pass? So soon? This is how people grieve, whether they knew him personally or not… let people grieve their own way… don’t tell people what to do or how to grieve.

That is so sick!
I agree with you, Steph. Stevie- If you can’t say something nice don’t say anything at all.
i so agree with u steve. i am from spain, i just knew him from a few movies, he was really good. I feel really sad, and really sorry for his family, everybody should grieve him if they want. i just saw a video in http://www.theinsideronline.com in which charlize theron, dennis hooper are really sorry for this tragic moment, and they probably didnt know him, but they grieve him, as a lot of people in the world is doing rigth now, because this is how people react to a moment like this
RIP heath
i meant i agree with you steph
This is really upsetting, my heart goes out to his family.
Especially his 2 year old daughter, Matilda Ledger.

I think EW colud have chosen another pic of Heath… I sort of don’t like this one… He looks not only serious but sad…
I agree with Jannie: Heath should have won the Oscar in 2006… He totally deserved it…

““…paparazzi climbed the fire escape of the building across the street hoping for shots into Ledger’s fourth-floor loft”…
:O
Sick-mental people really…
:(
Celebrity deaths usually don’t bother me, but this one really does. I never met him, but Ledger seemed like a down-to-earth, grounded guy.
Sad.
RIP.
Actually I think as much as admired Heath and as sad as I am that he’s dead and as much he deserved a tribute like that - to have a magazine published with him on the cover just a few days after his death looks like they just want to make money out of it - and THAT he doesn’t or didn’t deserve.
Anyways, RIP, beloved Heath
