OlderHeath’s Family: He Touched So Many People
Heath Ledger’s father Kim released the following statement with regards to the 28-year-old actor’s tragic death Tuesday in New York:
“Heath’s family confirms the very tragic, untimely and accidental passing of our dearly loved son, brother and doting father of Matilda. He was found peacefully asleep in his New York apartment by his housekeeper at 3:30 p.m. U.S. time.
“We would like to thank our friends and everyone around the world for their well wishes and kind thoughts at this time. Heath has touched so many people on so many different levels during his short life but few had the pleasure of truly knowing him.
“He was a down to earth, generous, kind-hearted, life-loving and selfless individual who was extremely inspirational to many. Please now respect our family’s need to grieve and come to terms with our loss privately.”

I am shocked. It is a great loss for movie world. I watched Brookeback Mountain on this weekend and today heard such message. I can’t believe it!
It is really so sad that such talented people are so weak that they get so addicted.

Pretty sure this is the first time I have seen each commentator agree and express nothing but kind words and broken-hearted musings.
Too bad it always takes a tragedy to bring people together.

I think this is a terrible tragidy, Heath was a very talented and har working guy. I think it’s hard to see all these young people pass away this year already a couple actors have passed. I feel complete sympathy for his family. It must be awful to lose a son, when he is so young. And his poor little daughter will never have her dad to hold her, hug her, and give her guidance through life. I hope that everyone can get passed this and try to remember how his life has touched so many people. I myself am a fan of him and give my condolences to the family. Although his life was sort, im sure it was not in vain. All his fans will never forget his gift of acting and his spirit. This is such a sad time!

I already miss the heck out of Heath. Matthew McConaughey and Heath Ledger are still my favorite actors of all times.
it just doesn’t seem real .. unbelievble. Such a great actor with with an obviously great personality.
It hurts, although none of us had really known him. but even the fact that Heath was such an amazing actor who touches so many people, makes it even harder.

Yeah, I definitely heard his father say “selfish.” And I repeated the clip several times, since I found the family’s need to make a statement very chastening. The transcript is obviously what was intended. Perhaps the Aussie accent conflates those two words, to other anglophone ears? Or maybe it was a slip, which is sort of what happens when so much press jumps at suicide as an answer. Such an intrusion. May they grieve, and he rest, in peace.
