OlderHeath Ledger’s Family Shares Heartache
Heath Ledger’s family have written about the loss of the Hollywood actor in the Australian newspaper West Australian.
Heath’s mom, Sally: “Our darling boy, special in so many ways to all of us. You knew you were so loved. You lived life with courage and daring and we are so grateful for the wonderful times we shared. We will be there for Matilda.”
Heath’s older sister, Kate: “I can hardly breathe when I try to write this. We were the ultimate in soul mates. I feel both my heart and life have been torn apart. I loved our special talks, our daily chats from where ever you were in the world. I especially loved all the precious time we spent together. We were so fortunate to have you as long as we did. You were so many things to so many people, but to me you were just my little brother. There will never, ever be another “Heath” and I think that in itself is the greatest tragedy. I will continue to talk with you everyday and love you just as if you were here. You will never leave my thoughts ‘Roast’, ever.” (Roast was her nickname for him)
Heath’s father, Kim: “My beautiful boy, so loving, so talented, so independent, so caring, so young . . . no more chess games mate . . . this is it, couldn’t beat you anyway! My body aches for the sound of your voice, our chats, our laughs and our life and times together. Your truly varied artistic skills, insatiable desire to improve and eclectic abilities set you apart from any other person on the planet . . . it had only just started for you … and for us to further enjoy. We were one, in soul and commitment. Just . . . Father and Son. I will love you forever, Dad.”
Heath’s entire family: “How do we describe our sudden and tragic loss? … You were the most amazing individual “old soul” in a young man’s body. You so loved us, as we dearly loved you. As a close knit and very private family unit we have observed you so determined yet quietly travelling in your self-styled path in life, nothing would get in your way … no mountain too tall, no river too wide. You dreamed your dreams and lived them with passion and intelligent commitment. We have been privileged to accompany you on a ride through life that has simply been amazing and through it all, we have loved each other beyond imagination. Your true legacy lives on in beautiful little Matilda, who will always remain in the greatest of care. Our hearts are broken.”

He was very loved by his family, friends, and fans… But like Heath said in an interview once, he will live on through his daughter even after he is gone. He will not be forgotten & may he rest in peace.. we love you..

It was bittersweet to read this… It was good to see how they saw him, he seemed so special, unique and a good soul. It’s a priveledge to be called an “old soul” for such a young person. Everyone who reads this can feel their sadness.

If ONLY every family on the Planet, cherished their son and/or daughter with such amazing true love, respect, and dignity.
I listened to (his) profound words in the various re-run interviews over the past few days, and it was very clear he was an “old soul” in a young adult body. We (old souls) are the “sensitives” walking the earth plane right now. It can be a very harsh world for us though Heath Ledger chose a professional outlet for expressing those emotions. Looking at beautiful Michelle Williams one can observe her sensitivity as well….I can imagine their little daughter will be a healing light as she walks on this planet and, trustingly, will be guided by her father from the other side of the veil.
Wow, I’ve never heard a more loving tribute from a family. Really quite amazing. No way he took his own life and hurt all these people. It must have been some freak thing, not done on purpose if his family is any indication. No way he would do that to them.

That moved me to tears… His father’s comment, in particular. I can’t imagine the loss they are suffering and to have to do it in public, with millions watching, is just that much worse. I hope everyone can give them and Heath the respect they deserve and quit turning a tragic situation into a gossip item. This is truly heartbreaking.

I don’t know why his death has hit me so hard, but it has.
He seemed to embody so much tenderness, and sensitivity and he wasn’t afraid to show that in his performances. Even his early acting scenes in the Patriot and Monster’s Ball were heart wrenching, and gave one pause to reflect and stand in awe of his acting ability. What a loss for us all.

oh my god… i just cried… his family seems so sweet… heath was a really lucky person to have relativies like them and wherever he is I know he knows that and will always be there for matilda….
I think the saddest thing of all this is that he had a daughter… but Im sure michelle and his family will be there for her and will never let she forget how much he loved her and that he will be watching for her being her angel…
Well this finally broke me, I haven’t been able to cry about this tragedy yet but this did it for me. This whole accident is so sad and so unfair to him, his family, friends, fans, and especially his baby. He was just getting started and his talent was taken from the world so suddenly. Those words from his family are so touching it is easy to see how loved he still is. He was a beautiful soul with a beautiful smile, and I will never forget him and someday I’ll be able to watch his movies again without crying. I’ll miss you Heath and may you watch over and protect your family for eternity.

They are so very lucky to have had such close, supportive and loving relationships with their son and brother. This was a lovely tribute to someone who was obviously so very important to all of them.
this why ppl should not be so selfish and think about their family before they do stupid drugs and partying and alcahole!!! these things shud be baned (alcahole and drugs). and when ppl get rich they lose contol over life and act stupidly with money. always think about ur loved one. i dnt feel sorry for him i feel sorry for his family.

Nothing’s been confirmed don’t judge him you have not lived his life, the drugs found in his room were prescribed from a Doctor he was ill, a chest infection possibly pneumonia, anxiety cause by insomnia & heartache wake up to yourself it hasn’t been confirmed he was on illegal drugs have some respect & above all if he was it was HIS life, HIS body HIS choice..
His family loved him for good & bad as all familyies should unconditional love !

That was truly moving. I felt terrible for his family before, but now that I’ve read their thoughts, my heart breaks for them. The loss of their beloved Heath will leave a huge hole in their family for all their lives. He will always be missed, there will always be those moments when they realize how different everything would be if he was still with them.
I wish them peace and somehow Heath’s love can help them through this.

Beautiful words from a family to their lost son and brother, it does my heart good to know they stand together and show such solid support, love and yes, grief, for Heath. There is no better way to leave this earth than knowing your family loves you so much and that they too are secure in your love for them.
That knowledge and love will help the Ledger’s ( & Michelle Williams) through this difficult time. Between Heath’s family and Michelle I think Matilda will always know what a good, caring, loving person her father was.

ummm..yeah you people didn’t even know him.. Its always sad when someone dies and its even more tragic when someone dies so young..but people please. Does his family think he can read the newspaper? Why do that? Get a grip, people.

Sally - It’s the equivalent of a eulogy and probably therapeutic for them; everyone grieves differently. There is no reason to judge them for that. I also don’t think there is anything wrong with public a demonstration of love in this f*cked up world we’re living in. They are sharing their grief with people all over the world who were saddened by his death. Lighten up.

What a wonderful outpouring of love. If we humans only felt a little of that towards each other, perhaps the uglinesss we see everyday would sink just a little lower in our sights.
That they recognised he was an old soul is insightful. That they loved each other thus, a thing of beauty. Pain is old as time, and we can’t escape it, no matter how fast we run, but when it is shared in such a beautiful and poetic way, it makes the world a little brighter (even if sadder), as the presence of their beloved Heath did in his chosen field, where he could share it with others.

With all due respect - if you are ever unfortunate enough to outlive one of your children - YOU can decide how YOU choose to handle it. Their son was a public figure. It’s not like they sat down with OK magazine and sold a story; these were published in Aussie newspapers, Heath Ledger’s home.
what a lovely family, did’nt he realise by doing this, and l truly believe it was suiside as he talked about it often, thae effect it would have on his family.
God, that was so sad that I cried for the 1st time since he died. I can’t imagine the pain that his family is suffering. Right now I’m crying while writing this and I didn’t even knew him, so his family’s pain must be 100000 worst than mine.
Heath, whatever it hapened that caused your death I hope you know that your fans are suffering a lot and you always be remembered the best way possible.

This is extremely heartbreaking but I love the way Heath’s family chose to show their love for him. At least this whole situation is being handled tastefully and respectfully!
It truly broke my heart reading this, what a tragic loss. I still can’t believe it.
I think they are beautiful comments and their love and insight into who their son was, not as a celebrity, but as a person is important for people to remember in a tabloid obsessed world.
