Jannie, that is a bit ridiculous. There are plenty of great actors who aren’t anguished or filled with anxiety. I disagree totally with that “critic.” Jake is not just a “jobbing” actor. He has real talent, imo.

Jake’s problem is that he is too well adjusted to be a great actor. You need anguish and anxiety to be a real star and he ain’t got it. As one critic said, look at Brokeback Mountain and you can see the difference between a real star (Ledger) and a “jobbing” actor (Gyllenhall). Jake’s only in the business to have a “job”.

Jake’s a COMPETENT actor, no more. His drama teacher Chubbick, has said a great actor has to be filled with anxiety. Jake has tried to pretend he had a “difficult” youth, but I doubt anybody really believes that. He went to a private prep school, Columbia University, and was raised in luxury in Beverly Hills or thereabouts. He’s a charming upper class kid who acts to fill the time and make some money.

Jakey is not hot, but he is a very competent actor, and also has going for him that he didn’t go in to acting because he is a pretty face that dropped out of high school, and had no skills to get a real job, like so many out there.

At least he will not be giving interviews about not getting his character. I hate the dummies that say that while being payed to do a job, that in those circumstances could be handled by a sock puppet.
