Jake Gyllenhaal Remembers Heath Ledger
Jake Gyllenhaal stops to grab a cup of coffee in Brentwood, Calif. on Sunday morning.
Earlier this weekend, Jake, 27, was spotted hiking at a Los Angeles park with girlfriend Reese Witherspoon and her two kids, Ava, 8, and Deacon, 4. It was the first sighting of the star since his Brokeback costar Heath Ledger’s passing.
It was reported last week that Jake was in New Mexico shooting his new film, Brothers. Presumably, he flew back home recently to attend the private memorial service for Heath, which was attended by his close family and friends.
Jake is the godfather of Heath and Michelle Williams 2-year-old daughter Matilda.

Being Matilda’s godfather is a big responsibility now that Heath’s passed. Heath didn’t have any brothers and Michelle doesn’t have any brothers.

So Sad what a great actor to lose… Jake is i’m sure devastated for the loss of his friend, to be chosen to be the Godfather of Heaths child shows that they were close friends and I really don’t think the comments that certain people leave to mock Jake Heath would agree too.. I like how Heaths’ funeral arrangments was handled. Private, family and friends only.
Though he may have been a public figure, we don’t and never will know public figures as their family and close friends know them.
I think his arrangements were handled with dignity. None of the outlandish spectacles we see in funerals these days e.g., Anna Nicole.

Heath only asked Jake to be the godfather after he dissed Jake by saying that George Clooney deserved to win supporting actor instead of Jake. It was a PR move and it was all for show. Jake has had and will continue to have very little to do with Matilda.
The haggling about Jake being or deserving to be Matilda’s godfather is disturbing. Maybe for Heath and Michelle, it was just a sign of honor but not meant to be taken seriously? I mean, were they religious? I don’t think so.

My heart goes out to Michelle Williams with having learned that substance abuse might have led to the downfall of her relationship with Heath Ledger. Fact is Jake has said NOTHING to my knowledge about Heath. For reasons unknown. To assume they were close is risky. There is no evidence of that. He doesn’t look sad, merely slightly annoyed at being photographed. And being Matilda’s godfather may be meaningless. She has a mother and the mother may not want the godfather to mess in her life. They all say the same thing - he got coffee, went for a hike with gf and kids, godfather to Heath and Michelle’s girl, etc., but don’t report that he expressed any rememberance or condolence publicly. Good for him - it’s private, but don’t make news out of something that didn’t happen.

Hey Anonymous - When you lose a close loved one, at least from my experience, you are immediately in shock, disbelief, don’t know what to do. You try to keep busy, and quite often you don’t want just anyone to know how much pain you are in and how hurt you are, you try to keep up a brave front. It’s later, after the shock wears off and the reality of it sinks in that you really start to grieve. And not everybody grieves in the same way.

Really KP you have NO evidence that Heath was “a close loved one” to Jake at all. Unless you are dumb enough to think that their relationship in Brokeback was the same as their relationship in real life. I have a clue for you: it was NOT.
One very good reason to think Jake and Heath were NOT close is that their life styles were complete opposites. Heath was a carouser at night and a druggie. Jake stays in at night and probably never took a drug in his life. Life styles completely different.

Grieving Jake Gyllenhaal mourns loss of friend Heath Ledger

Heath Ledger’s on-screen forbidden lover Jake Gyllenhaal is so grief-stricken by the Aussie actor’s death he’s taken leave from filming a new movie to mourn.
The “Brokeback Mountain” co-stars were so close that Ledger made Gyllenhaal godfather to his only child, 2-year-old Matilda.
“Jake is taking this harder than most people,” a friend of the actor told People.com. The 27-year-old actor has been grieving in seclusion and has yet to issue a statement since Ledger’s body was found in his SoHo loft Jan. 22.
Gyllenhaal was in New Mexico filming his latest movie, “Brothers,” when he received word of Ledger’s death. The cause of Ledger’s death is undetermined, pending a toxicology report.
Gyllenhaal immediately left the set, returning a few days later to finish filming a scene. The actor has since been on personal leave from the film to mourn in private. He was last seen in public Saturday, walking with girlfriend Reese Witherspoon and her children.
“This has had a strong personal effect on [Jake],” a source on the “Brothers” movie set told People. “It was obviously a major trauma. These guys were very close. [Jake] was sitting in the director’s chair staring off into space.”
Gyllenhaal and Ledger, 28, were nominated for Academy Awards for their performances as gay cowboys in the 2005 film.
This is funny. Jake is so “upset” he can’t even issue a statement but he can go out to buy a coffee in the morning. Give me a break, idiots. What most people know is what we hear from the media, period. Unless someone knows these people intimately, how could anyone possibly know what is going one, what relationships are, etc.
It seems to me that Jake G. has class and dignity. I respect him more for keeping his feelings private. I cannot stand when people shove a microphone in someone’s face and ask how they “feel” about his death. Daniel Day Lewis dedicated his award to him and he HAD NEVER MET HIM. To me, that is bizarre.
As for his hiking with his girlfriend and her children, does anyone think that might have been comforting to him? Getting away from everything? Being with children helps a lot of people who are grieving. People grieve in different ways.
I am sure that, in time, he will publicly speak about his feelings. They may be too fresh now.

What pray tell is “bizarre” about a first rate actor praising another first rate actor when the latter has tragically died? Most public figures find it OBLIGATORY to say something when someone “close” to them has died. It is common custom. Nothing bizarre at all. What is bizarre is NOT saying a word. Unless, of course, the person means nothing to you. You don’t say anything when “Mr. Unknown to you” dies, do you? But if your best friend had died you would be expected to say something. Get real, people. Jake’s behavior is oddballish.

January 31, 2008 — HEATH Ledger had become a regular user of cocaine and heroin in the past year, getting so high on drugs that an exasperated Michelle Williams was forced to boot him out of their Brooklyn home, The Post has learned.
“She couldn’t take it any more. Heath wouldn’t show up for two to three days, and all of a sudden he would show up on her doorstep, an absolute wreck,” a member of Ledger’s entourage who did drugs with him told The Post’s Lorena Mongelli. “He was partying, doing drugs. She didn’t like the company he was keeping. She gave him an ultimatum. . . . and threatened to get custody of the girl. He wanted to make it work, but it was this scene he was wrapped up in. Was he an addict? Yeah.”
Quite possible Jake didn’t respect him at all. Jake is certainly not a druggie and the idea that he would bond with one is stupid nonsense.
The only drug you ever see Jake take is caffeine. LOL.

We know that Heath made Jake the godfather of Matilda and we have word in People and the entertainment shows that Jake is very upset over Heath’s death. Even if People is exaggerating doesn’t mean Jake is not upset that Heath died.
And my comment stands even if the drug rumors are true, which we don’t know for sure. Clearly Michelle Williams is upset even if she left Heath because of drugs. She clearly cared for Heath and I would say that Jake cared for him too even if he distanced himself because of Heath’s supposed drug problems.

And yet I was deeply saddened by his loss and was surprisingly affected by it. So if I can feel like this, isn’t it obvious that anyone who did know him and had some level of friendship or relationship with him would clearly be quite affected by his death.
Why is it so difficult for you to accept that while they might not have been “best friends” at the time of Heath’s death (we all know that friendships wax and wane) , it doesn’t change the fact that they were friends and anyone who looses a friend feels the loss.

Drug user or not, Heath was still his co-star in a groundbreaking movie– the most acclaimed film they both starred in to date and maybe for years to come for Jake– and the father of his god-daughter. The status of his relationship with Heath is irrelevant, the right thing to do, the human thing was to honor his colleague in whatever way he wanted. Heath was a drug user and probably an addict. The evidence is massive and overwhelming. To deny it is to be simply stupid.
Heath was a superb actor, at least in Brokeback, no doubt about that.
Jake is a very competent “jobbing actor”–one who acts to have a job.
Jake and Heath are different as Valma says: indeed, Heath is the better actor; that makes them “different.”
Finding all sorts of explanations for Jake’s failure to say anything about Heath is pathetic. There are no reasonable explanations, other than that he is too busy or indifferent to do so.
Assuming all sorts of things about their relationship is also silly; there is NO evidence they had much to do with each other outside their professional obligations. The fact that Jake was asked to be the godfather doesn’t mean much. When asked you accept. He has done nothing since for the girl. And what about the godmother? Nobody even mentions her because these relationships don’t necessarily mean much.

It is true that most of actors and famous people use contact lenses, and you are right i saw some pictures of Jake with contact lenses, but i know the difference, becuse i used them. He has natural blue eyes like his sister. He used his lenses for sight, not for beauty, and thats for sure. Blueayed people i think i am not that sure have problem with weather, if it is cloudy weather with rain, a blue color of his eyes is turn to blue miksed with greyish. Jannie, blue eyes can change shade depending on what the person is wearing or whether they are in natural light (outside) or indoors with staged lighting. If Jake is wearing blue his eyes shine blue, if he is wearing gray or green his eyes show the gray or green tint. Same with Maggie’s eyes. Plus, Jake has blue eyes as a kid in the movie City Slickers. And his mother, sister and I think his dad all have blue eyes. Jake has said he wears contacts because he has bad eyesight. If he wanted to fake blue eyes he would wear the same “colored” contacts all the time. The color would not change at all.

Japanese does not have to just be written in hiragana, kata-kana and kanji. It can be written in roma-ji. It is Japanese written phonetically for those who don’t read japanese script but maybe speak Japanese…if that makes sense.

I didn’t speak Japanese (too difficult to learn and no reason to do so) but I did know a few Japanese. I found them to be rigid and inhibited and up tight (super polite but not sincerely polite) and in general not likable. I then went to China for a while and found the Chinese everything the Japanese were not: human, warm, sincere, honest and extremely easy to like. To me the Japanese are the East Asia Britons, with a similar personality, while the Chinese are like the Spanish or Brazilians, open, fun, and really nice. Marcella, you are right of course. Actors like baseball players, etc., etc. are wildly overpaid. Especially if their movies make money. On the other hand their careers can go to pot (no pun intended) quite rapidly if they can’t keep up the charisma. Jakey from what I have seen gets around 3-6 million a movie. His sister, whose career is not flourishing, gets much much less. (I hope he is lending her what she needs if she asks). His house was purchased in January 2004 for $1,250,000 according to Zillow. About a year ago it was valued at around 1,750,000 but has since dropped back to around $1, 278,000. After all real estate values are declining even in the Hollywood Hills. I suppose he has other expenses, and I also suspect he owns a place in New York. Where that might be, I don’t know.

None of us no whether or not they hung out, so none of us know whether he should be grieving or not. And none of us know whether anything in the press is true or not.

Poor Jake! :’( They were so close, such a beautiful friendship developed between them since Brokeback Mountain! Amazing actors too. It’s such a terrible loss. He must have been special to Heath to be Matilda’s Godfather. Jake has lost his best friend.

Maybe if you stop taking the drugs your on you would grasp lifes issues if you are able to do so. Then it could be you were raised with no sense of compassion and I do not mean the fake Emperor Bush kind of compassion. Everyone grieves in their own way. It would appear you have no ability to show any kind of grief when someone passes from this journey into the next journey. Were you raised by alcoholic parents or were you just an hateful person from the get go? Good on ya Rip Heath, i have a lot of love and respect for Jake as well mate, he seems to be a very nice and warm person and i feel very sorry for his loss. It would be so great to know Jake personally I think he would make a great friend and i recon both Jake and Heath had a lot of respect for one another and i feel that Jake still morns for his best friend. I think BBM is still the best acting i’ve seen Jake do so far that is, and I am looking forward to his next big hit on the screen.
