Justin Chambers Has a Sleeping Disorder
Grey’s Anatomy star Justin Chambers, aka Dr. Alex Karev checked himself in to the psych ward at UCLA Medical Center this week, according to TMZ.
Justin checked into the same ward as Britney on Monday and checked out yesterday.
His rep says the 37-year-old actor was “exhausted and suffers from a sleeping disorder and went in voluntarily to get some help.” (This probably explains the dark circles under his eyes.)
Having five kids just might do that to ya. Get well soon, Justin!

Well, maybe what happened with Ledger is making some of these celebs realize they can’t play around with these prescription drugs, especially sleeping pills.
Why wouldn’t he just go to a sleep clinic?
28th!?
I think the Thing with Heath made him face it.
He needs Promises or Betty Ford

The UCLA Medical Center (where Justin checked in) has a sleep clinic.
I hope he gets better soon. He seems like such a private family man. It must suck to have this out in the media and have people assuming he’s crazy or has drug/alcohol problems.
I suffer from insomnia. I can be up all night and sleep all day. Not fun.
I have a sleep disorder as well. Its bad news and I feel for him. Having too many kids is not the problem, some peoples’ brains are just too anxious and do not turn of when they need to. It is not the same as having too many kids and being physically exhuasted. It is a whole different issue and unless you have gone months with only a few hours of sleep a week, you have no idea what it is really like to be tired. I hope Heath Ledger’s death will help many people to seek treatment for this problem.
30th!

He is hot!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why is someone’s private medical problem published all over the blogs? TMZ is the pits for publishing it and JJ, I love your blog but you didn’t have to post this one. Even actors have a right to privacy.
AHHHH GET WELL….ACTING IS SOMEWHAT A RATHER INCREASINGLY DANGEROUS PROFESSION!!
GOD BLESS!
I hope he gets better soon :)
psyche wards are the new rehab.
i hope he’s ok now.
Look seriously having 5 kids would drive anyone crazy. I have 4 kids and sometimes feel like slitting my wrists and spraying blood into the faces of passers-by.
Wow, that sucks. I hope he gets the help he needs. It looks like he can tell when he needs it. Someone inform Britney to stay in treatment because she still is oblivious to her own needs.
And no one goes to mental ward for just a sleeping disorder. Either way, he’ll be diagnosed by the proper authorities.

True, but if the episode of the sleeping disorder is accute and he has not been sleeping for more than 3 or 4 days depending on the person, it is wise and safe to seek medical attention. Sleep deprivation is used as a form of torture because it not only debilitates the person but it alters it’s perception of reality, and even induce psychotic episodes. Checking in to a facility was a very wise move for someone that has small children at home. Choosing UCLA over other facility was more likely a recommendation of his own physician than a personal choice.
Hope all is better.
This worries me.
These days I’m suffering from bouts of insomnia and I don’t know why exactly. I haven’t had any real adverse affects from not wanting to sleep, but I can see how in the future this might cause me some real trouble.
My uncle has narcolepsy which is another sleep disorder so maybe it runs in my family.
Interesting . . . I hope he gets better soon.
#44 S. I find it hard to believe a medical doctor would recommend a patient to check into a mental ward rather than a sleep clinic that deals with issues like sleep deprivation and insomnia with expertise. A psyche ward is no joke. It is for those with mental illness period, not mental impairment due to a lack of sleep, like in the same way solitary confinement can induce depression and hallucinations.
I agree with you in the aspect that a lack of sleep is a very, very serious issue. Two hours worth of sleep in two days results in a person basically functioning under the heavy influence of alcohol . I can’t imagine longer than that and the alterations in reality and resulting psychosis. However, sleep deprivation can lead to mental distress, it is not a clear disease. He obviously has something more serious or extreme than just a lack of sleep.
I don’t think just because he has 5 children that they are one of the reasons he doesn’t get that much rest. I have met parents with 2 children who look worned out and tired all the time. I hope he isn’t drinking or doing drugs. It’s sad that these actors work all these hours
and they lose sleep, don’t eat, and don’t take care of themselves.
Ever since the strike alot of the celebs have been having some major issues with themselves. I hope he gets better and the best of luck to him and to his family.
