Spice Girls Tour CANCELED

The Spice Girls just announced that they’re cutting their world tour short!

They have dropped Australia, China, South Africa and Argentina, reportedly because of poor ticket sales.

Here’s their official statement: “Sadly the tour needs to come to an end by the end of February due to family and personal commitments for Emma, Geri, Mel B, Melanie C and Victoria. It was announced in June that, as well as the Europe and the US, the girls planned to visit Australia, China, South Africa and Argentina. Due to the phenomenal demand for tickets in the UK and the US along with the touring logistics for such a massive production it was not possible to fit everything in. As the girls return to normal family life and the kids go back to school they are reviewing all the options, who knows what the future might bring!”

The girls said: “We’ve had such an amazing time over the last 3 months. It’s been incredible being back together and seeing our fans again. We want to thank everyone who came to see us. It was all so mad the first time round, so we’ve really been able to appreciate it properly this time. There have been so many highlights and good times that we know it will be hard to be apart after Toronto. Really sorry if we didn’t get to see you this time round. We all have other commitments in our lives now but who knows what will happen next.”

I dont really think its because of poor sales. Their tickets were snapped up so fast. They hadded many shows in UK and USA. Umm, not really. They didn’t cancel anything, they just are not adding anymore.. the original tour was only supposed to be 11 shows.. that has changed into 30 something…

They never confirmed they were doing the other countries, they suggested they might do it.

Actually South Africa (and China I think) were part of the 11 original dates. They were supposed to be rescheduled. Even though I really feel bad for the fans who wont be able to see them, it’s their decision and I’m sure they have a good one.
I dont think ‘poor tickets sales’ is the reason either.
I got to see them last night it was absolutely amazing.

Jared, this has NOTHING to do with ticket sales. The girls are busy and they are tired. The have children to look after (excl. Sporty). They want to move on in their lives. I’m sure they’re having a ball, but they can’t live in the past forever.

they sold out here in australia so i dont know what they are on about and they were only playing 1 show here and they were talking about coming to Brisbane and Melbourne cause there was such a demand for tickets. my ass it’s bad ticket sales.

The interest for tickets in Aus was low. I mean they would have sold plenty, but not enough to justify moving the whole tour over here for a show. They would have lost money. It’s not like London where’s theres enough fans to fill a ton of stadium shows. 2 full shows at most over here, then the stadium starts getting a lot less packed.

Some other sources are citing that both Mel’s want out, bcoz US offers have been flooding in on Mel B after her success on DWTS and she reportedly misses her husband and the Spice kids will need to go back to school eventually. Mel C thinks that taking longer on SG tour could jeopardise her solo career. What a bunch of crap. Victoria has always been running all over the globe leaving her kids behind,on Fashion commitments. Mel B has been in L.A the past couple of years without a job and a bank account drying up, does she think think she would been extended an offer in the spotlight on DWTS if wasn’t for all the hype about the SPice Girls reunion and group’s connection with Victoria Beckham? ***** think she’s all that now? The girls should be grateful that Victoria accepted to be part of it, bcoz the seats at the concerts were mostly filled with 13+ hoping to do celebrity sighting of Posh. Some of these kids do not even remember words to the Spice songs at the Montreal gig, but were just fascinated by “Posh” even if she couldn’t sing to save her life.
Maybe it is a belssing in disguise, bcoz Ithe Spice Girls didn’t meet my expectation at the Montreal gig on thurs 31/01. You could see they were less enthusiastic, and looked tired and bored with the same routines after playing over 40 shows. Even my husband remarked that Victoria Beckham wasn’t doing any effort, she was robotic.Posh was just there to enjoy her celebrity status.The show was scheduled at 7.30 p.m, the arena was till closed bcoz the crew was still setting up the stage and doing sound check. The show started 2 hrs later! The 2nd half got better when they performed individually and finished off with the greatest hits. Maybe those who came to see Posh thought it was a great show because they didn’t give a crap about the performance! Maybe the fans in Australia , S.Africa , HOng KOng are better off not spending money on concerts were the artists are not giving them their money’s worth. The Spice Girls didný even say goodbye when they finnished the last song at the Montreal gig. They just went away and we had to figure it was time to go home when the lights went off!

Simon Fuller wanted to make some quick bucks off Spice Girls too, and realised the tour logistics for Australia, Hong Kong, Argentina S.Africa etc might harm his pockets too! The Spice girls were in it for the cash including their crooked manager too! Since they all live lavish lifestyles between U.K and U.S, the currency in these countries have a lower rate of exchange against U.S $ and U.K pounds, which means they will be les rich when they cash the profit at the bank in U.S and Europe.Otherwise they would have to charge tickets at ridiculously high fees outside America and Europe., and they better not go there than having the Spice camp answer about unethical practice.

i went to one of their concerts in LA and they were amazing! it sucks that they can’t make it to the other countries right now but i know that mel c has to keep promoting her solo album (which is very good btw). so maybe later in the year they’ll be able to make some of the concerts up

It wasn’t because of poor ticket sales at all. Tickets weren’t even on sale yet and no renewed date had been announced. They were originally performing in sydney at the middle of January, which was pushed back and a new date was never set.

They never promised the other countries.
It was originally 11 cities but they had to reschedule due to the fans demand. So they did the cities where the demand was higher, and had more fans.
But we have to understand them, I mean before it was just the 5 of them now they had kids (ex. Mel C) and they have husbands and boyfriends to take care of. Plus this was a tour it’s not suppose to take forever, they have other things to do.
It’s a shame to the fans in those countries that wanted to see them again.

Just saw them in Toronto, it was an incredible show, even the critics in the newspapers indicated it was one of the best concerts in years. Very, very good, and it is amazing how well their songs have stood the test of time. Toronto sold out all 4 shows, and I gather ticket sales have been strong elsewhere in North America and the UK. I tend to suspect that the tour, which morphed well beyond it original very limited dozen or so cities, has just got them all scrambling in respect of their other committments and family obligations, and they decided enough is enough, and called it to an end. By the way, all the girls, including Victoria (whom I know some like to malign) were very good, vocals were excellent, and the entire show was choreographed extremely well - and no lip syching anywhere.

In my opinion, I think that they hadn’t been honest with the public. The initial idea of the tour was to carry through a series of concerts in the different continents of the world, America, Africa, Europe, Asia and Australia.
What they did was something completely different of what was planed at first. Instead of making the tour around the world, satisfying the curiosity of all the fans, the spice girls had decided to give attention only to some of the big cities in Europe and North America. The tour was exclusively for the United Kingdom and the United States, according to their official web site, the great part of the performances were in these two countries.
Only in London they did 17 concerts, plus 3 in Manchester makes 20 concerts in the same country. In the U.S.A. the Spice Girls did 18 concerts. And now I ask myself, why they did so many performances in the same countries, when they could have used some of those dates in other cities of Africa, Asia and Australia?
It wouldn’t have been better if they had made less concerts in the same countries, but to have had the chance to visit the fans in other countries and continents of the world?
Yes, we know, due to the phenomenal demand for tickets in the UK and the US…bla, bla…Guess what, the brazilian fans made an online petition with 18 589 signatures to place Brazil in the world tour and they didn’t even care for that!!! Was the tour really about celebration and love for the fans?! I don’t think so… Because if it was, I think that they don’t know what the words “love” or “fans” means.
