Russell Crowe is in a State of Play

Russell Crowe films his new movie State of Play on Monday in downtown Los Angeles, Calif.

According to IMDB, the movie is based on the BBC mini-series of the same title where a team of investigative reporters work alongside a police detective to try to solve the murder of a congressman’s mistress.

Russell replaced Brad Pitt in the movie due to disagreements about the shooting script.

I wonder what his looks have to do with his acting performance. It’s the latter one that counts. I can only agree with those reminding of his earlier performances (Insider…) where he didn’t have problems putting on and losing weight. On the other hand it is also true that such things will get harder the older he gets.
If some here are talking of being ‘natural’ that’s what I love about him, too. He doesn’t pretend. He doesn’t play the Hollywood game - being handsome in order to being appreciated as an actor isn’t that important to him. Neither it should be to us.

I’ve always been entertained, Mr Crowe!

I love Russell’s movies and I believe he will be terrific in this movie just like he did in all the others. Yes he gained weight but he still looks handsome to me and it does not change his great acting skills.

On the worst day of his life, Russell Crowe would look better than any other man in the world on his best day-including Brad Pitt!

I just saw him last week in Jacksonville & he did not look old or fat. True, he’s not as thin as he used to be, but he looked good. I think alot of the the look in those pictures are for the movie

Well, dear, since your stalking him to Jacksonville would make you one of his die hard Russell-can-do-no-wrong fans, then I think we can take your views of his looks as just a tad biased.

When are these women going to stop embarrassing themselves over him? This is sad.

Fact is he was once a very attractive man. He isn’t anymore. I’m sure it’s a combination of bad genes and Russell’s own abuse of his body. Unfortunately Marlon Brando was also quite gorgeous. We saw what happened to Marlon. I see that same fate for Russell. Shame.

Sweetie, that’s some grand delusion you got going there. Russell in his best years can’t touch Brad Pitt as he is now at 44. Pitt is simply classically handsome and still has the body of Adonis.

to Anonymus:

Not that I have to explain myself to you - I happen to live in Jacksonville, so I went to the game. Yes, I am a fan of Russell Crowe, but Iam also a fan of others, and he may not look like Brad Pitt, (who didn’t look so good at the SAG awards)but he can act circles around him.

Oh please. In no way do Russell Crowe’s personal life and habits resemble those of Marlon Brando. They both may be fine actors, but Brando’s offscreen life was a shambles.

By comparison, Russell leads a pretty disciplined lifestyle
these days. If he looks a bit “tubby” for this role, it’s because he’s SUPPOSED to look that way. He is far too meticulous in his preparations for a movie to “show up” any way OTHER than what is required for his character.

As for the remark someone here made that Russ never was a pretty man, that person must be unfamiliar with Russell’s earliest movie roles. He was damned pretty!

Uh he had to gain weight for his role in Body Of Lies! You people act like he’s just being fat and lazy ugh Russell is very athletic and active but he said when he was promoting American Gangster that Ridley begged hiim to gain a lot of weight to play an fat, obnoxious person and people have come up to him and he’s had to explain that’s why he looks the way he does at the moment. lol.

He just shot that movie before State of Play. He was even BIGGER for that role. Now he is slowly taking it off and by the next film he does with Ridley he is going to take a lot more weight off. This is what Rusell does. He gains weight and loses it depending on how the director wants the character to look. Anyway I think Russell is way more sexy than Brad Pitt any day. And a much better actor.

And despite his much publicized flare ups, I like him he seems real and a devoted family man. And I like how unlike Brad and Angelina and the others he gives tons of money to charities all over the world but doesn’t go out of his way to publicize it. He’s a good man, Russell. Anyone remember his beautiful Oscar speech?

Russell Crowe is hot!

I agree. If Russell gain weight for Body Lies (very small role) Why he don’t lose this weight for SOP? His role don’t need to be fat.

He is gorgeous, yummy!
