Amy Winehouse: Visa Denied!

Amy Winehouse will NOT be performing at the Grammy Awards this Sunday in Los Angeles as her visa application to enter the United States was just rejected by the American Embassy in London.

DENIED!!!!!!!!!!!!

“Amy has been progressing well since entering a rehabilitation clinic two weeks ago and although disappointed with the decision has accepted the ruling and will be concentrating on her recovery,” reads a statement from her U.K.-based publicist. “There will of course be other opportunities and she very much looks forward to visiting America in the near future.”

Winehouse and her acclaimed “Back to Black” album is nominated for six Grammys this year.

Question for Americans

Was she denied a working visa because she would be preforming?

I’m going on holiday to LA & NY in May and my travel agent said that I don’t need a visa cause I will only be there for 10 days.

If I don’t need a visa then can’t she just attend but not perform?

Where are you from,UK? I think it differs for each country, most countries need a visa but I know for example you won’t need a Visa if you are a Canadian citizen. I would google and find more info if I were you.

Re: Visa requirement - you need one if you are going to work. If you are just visiting for a brief time, I don’t believe you’ll need one.

Thanks Laura and George for your replies.

I’m not from the UK (Aussie) and I double checked with two different travel agents and they both said if your just visiting not working then you don’t need one unless you stay longer than 3 months so I’m sweet =).

But I still don’t get why Amy couldn’t just go to the awards but not perform. As far as I know she doesn’t have a criminal record so it does seem a bit unfair.

2 weeks is NOT enough time to “recover” from Crack, cocaine, heroin,meth, ecstasy and whatever else she is on.

She should just concentrate on her health. We will all understand the absence.
