Angelina Jolie in Iraq (Not Jordan)
Angelina Jolie is serving in Iraq, not Jordan as previously reported.
As goodwill ambassador for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, the 32-year-old do-gooder was on a mission to highlight the plight of Iraqi refugees in Baghdad on Thursday.
Jolie is promoting action to help the two million people displaced by Iraq’s war.
“There’s lots of goodwill and lots of discussion, but there seems to be just a lot of talk at the moment,” Jolie told CNN in an exclusive interview. “What happens in Iraq and how Iraq settles in the years to come is going to affect the entire Middle East. And a big part of what it’s going to affect, how it settles, is how these people are returned and settled into their homes and their community and brought back together and whether they can live together and what their communities look like.”
Angie was also seen boosting the spirits of American troops, dropping by their dining facility for lunch in the heavily guarded Green Zone, which houses the embassy and Iraqi government offices in central Baghdad.

she’s great! and with no makeup on, she looks very human and approachable, but she does seem kind of tired and like she should get some rest. i hope she doesn’t collapse from all the stress of travelling. but she’s doing a very good thing and raising awareness.

Shining onstage at the Santa Barbara Film Festival only last Saturday, Angelina Jolie showed up a world away – in every respect – on Thursday: Baghdad.
The actress, 32, is there in her role as goodwill ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to focus attention on the plight of more than 2 million “very, very vulnerable” internally displaced Iraqis, CNN reports.
“There’s lots of goodwill and lots of discussion, but there seems to be just a lot of talk at the moment, and a lot of pieces that need to be put together. I’m trying to figure out what they are,” Jolie, calling for a more coherent plan for the refugees to trickle back to their homes, said as part of an interview with CNN.
“What happens in Iraq and how Iraq settles in the years to come is going to affect the entire Middle East,” she said. “And a big part of what it’s going to affect, how it settles, is how these people are returned and settled into their homes and their community and brought back together and whether they can live together and what their communities look like.”
She added, “It’s in our best interest to address a humanitarian crisis on this scale because displacement can lead to a lot of instability and aggression.”
Jolie’s visit is due to encompass meetings with the top U.S. commander in Iraq Gen. David Petraeus, Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and Iraqi migration officials, says the American Embassy, the Associated Press reports.
AP Television News also showed her socializing with American troops over lunch at a dining facility in the high-security Green Zone, where the embassy and Iraqi government offices in central Baghdad are located.
Time will come for Iraq to be what it used to be from the help of the US & other countries, we can’t just abandon them now, we need to repair what damaged we’ve done & right now it seems we are on the right path, it will be years but it is going there. Ange represents each of us, she gives morale boost to a lot of US soldiers in Iraq, as a high caliber movie star, she can be in her mansion & be with her kids & Brad but because she views the world differently & cares about the refugees she went there personally to see what’s going on once she comes back on her trip she will report that to the UN & from that they will discuss what’s best for the refugees in Iraq, that’s really a big deal to those people displaced by war. Ange doesn’t mind to be unglamorous & dirty unlike other stars of HW who do nothing to help the unfortunate ones, it’s a lot different to be there personally than just talk about it behind the camera. Ange is doing it personally with compassion & commitment. Brad is so proud of you & fans are so proud of you. Be safe Ange. God bless.
I have already sent her blessings over the airwaves as she was airborne. It was written by a teacher of mine who just passed over last month:
May the light of your soul guide you
May the light of your soul bless the work
You do with the secret love and warmth of your heart
May you see in what you do the beauty of your own soul
May the sacredness of your work bring healing, light and renewal to those
Who work with you and to those who see and receive your work
May your work never weary you
May it release within you wellsprings of refreshment, inspiration and excitement
May you be present in what you do
May you never become lost in the bland absences
May the day never burden you
May dawn find you awake and alert, approaching your new day with dreams,
possibilities and promises
May evening find you gracious and fulfilled
May you go into the night blessed, sheltered and protected
May your soul calm, console and renew you

# 6 David………you can go to Iraq & be a target. You have to be appreciative of Ange & the troops overseas specially in Iraq & Afghanistan who are there serving the people, how about you, what have you done to help others? I bet nothing because you don’t see Ange as humanitarian. You are one bitter person, you need help.
How ppl. can “worship” such narcissistic, greedy, ego-tistical “stars” such as: “The Beckhams’”, “The Cruises”, Paris Hilton, LL, BS, etc… when this woman has such a genuine, true, loving, giving spirit, and actually “walks the walk NOT just talking the talk” so to speak… it’s truly baffling to me… Ange is a TRUE Humanatarian in every sense of the word- giving, gracious, selfless- always looking/searching for ways to enhance the plight of those less fortunate… she’s truly an inspiration…
Good for you, Angelina.
She could have just attended the “Raising Malawi” event and felt good about herself, but no, she actually went to where it’s really happening. It was great that when the CNN correspondent asked her why she was rising her life, she asked her why she was risking HER life? Basically that they’re both there because there’s a need to be there.
Thanks Jared.
AJ is an inspiration.
Just saw angie live on cnn with the us troops. She looked good and happy and sitting and talking to them in the mess hall and they were all taking pics of her. Over at jjb a fan has posted new st john ads and angie looks so stunning.
Going to Iraq while pregnant? She’s out of her f*cking mind!
#7, lili = a moron who has nothing better to do but insult ppl and uses words that aren’t even in the dictionary. how lame and pathetic. who cares if you don’t like her? keep it to yourself…what makes you think we give a damn about your opinions?
I love her. She is my role model. I hope she will stay safe and continue to do this work for many years to come. And I love Brad for standing by her.
Good Job Angie!! God Bless you and have safe trip back home…

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Hollywood star and humanitarian activist Angelina Jolie appealed on Thursday for more international help for the millions of Iraqis displaced internally and abroad, U.N. officials said.
Jolie, a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), met officials from the United Nations, the U.S. embassy and the U.S. military in central Baghdad’s heavily fortified Green Zone.
“She’s here in her official capacity to talk to government officials, the military and the United Nations about Iraq’s refugees and displaced persons,” Staffan de Mistura, the U.N. envoy to Baghdad, told Reuters.
Jolie also visited Iraq last August, when she went to a makeshift camp for internally displaced people (IDPs) and met Iraqi refugees in Damascus, capital of neighboring Syria.
She said she wanted more information about IDPs and to discuss the problem with the Iraqi government, U.S. officials and aid workers, as well as to meet local Iraqis.
“There are over 2 million internally displaced people and there doesn’t seem to be a real coherent plan to help them,” Jolie told CNN. “There’s lots of goodwill and lots of discussion but there seems to be just a lot of talk at the moment and a lot of pieces need to be put together,” she said.
Some 2.2 million Iraqis have fled sectarian fighting which killed tens of thousands after the bombing of a revered Shi’ite shrine in February 2006 and pushed Iraq to the brink of civil war.
The Iraqi Red Crescent estimates that between 1.5 million and 2 million Iraqis fled to Syria, most of the others going to Jordan. Roughly the same number are displaced within Iraq.
“I was very impressed by the fact that she was extremely well informed and well documented about the plight of refugees in Iraq and outside Iraq,” de Mistura said after meeting Jolie for about 30 minutes.
“She asked how can all of us make sure that refugees are better treated,” he said. :)
An Iraqi Red Crescent (IRC) report on Thursday said that the number of IDPs returning to their homes had slowed significantly because people were still worried about security.
A UNHCR report this week said the flow of refugees from Syria back to Iraq had also slowed, and that more Iraqis were leaving than returning. The IRC says 46,000 refugees returned from Syria between September 15 and December 27, 2007, far fewer than government figures indicate.
Iraqi officials, eager to play up signs of improving security, said last November that up to 1,600 were returning to Iraq daily, but now they say the situation is not clear and a more accurate survey is being planned.
The UNHCR report said most of those returning were doing so not because of improved security but because they could no longer afford to live in Syria.
